ROCK STARS’ R&R:
So what do a couple of rock stars do with some downtime? Apparently it’s the mundane things in life that rock their world — at least for Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee and boyfriend Shaun Morgan, Seether’s lead singer.
* *After they wrapped up their tour Saturday in Little Rock, the pair spent three days hanging with Lee’s family. Doing what? Visiting at the family’s Maumelle home, playing Scrabble, Balderdash, Scattergories and cards, reports Amy’s dad, John. The musical family has also been jamming.
* *"Shaun, Lori and I played old Beatles tunes in the living room while Sara [Amy’s mom] and Amy were cooking in the kitchen singing harmonies," he says.
* *Amy took Morgan out for a sushi lunch at Sekisui in west Little Rock and to Wal-Mart. But the highlight of the visit for the double-Grammywinning Amy, whose band’s first album sold 10 million-plus copies? Borrowing dad’s car. "That is typically the number one thing she wants to do when she’s not touring," Lee says. "She never gets to drive."

Hahaha, thats just adorable, how geeky and lame... I LOVE IT! I wonder if Amy is a good driver... hmm, well i think thats a pretty interesting little insight into the lives of the Lees. It's interesting to know what they were up to after the LR show and im glad they were havin a good time. I still have trouble imagining Shaun playing scrabble, but what i can imagine is the Lee family kickin his ass at it. Heheh... "Yes! Tourniquet! 500 point score! You lose again Shaun!!"

Does amy ever have a private life??
Its really strange and pretty dissapointing amys dad would even think to tell a newspaper what his daughter did on her 3 day visit home :( , especially when it has nothing to do with her career, just some fun things she did around her home with family - whats even stranger is the fact crap like that got printed.
Im sorry if this offends people but to me, I just think its sad, especially when she said she loves going home to a normal enviroment, away from the public eye and her fans.
I'm sure that if she had a problem with it, the newspaper wouldn't have printed it and her dad wouldn't have said it in the first place.

*cracks up* Borrowing her dad's car...now why does that sound familiar? ;)
<--borrowed her dad's car for about six months before she got to call it her own :D
Hehe, Ames, I TOTALLY know where you're coming from! \m/ w00t for driving! (Yes, I've had my license for nine months and I still love driving. Dork much? You bet!)
Guys, I'm sure that John wouldn't say anything personal about Amy if she had a problem with it. Sheesh. Give the guy some credit.
I thought the article was really cute. The bit about borrowing the car made me laugh out loud LMAO go Ames! :D
Scrabble is one of my favorite games lol. What's wrong with chilling over a Scrabble game?! lol it's SO much fun, especially when you have more than two people. Four people at Scrabble can be pretty wild (at least if you're MY family, it is...)
Very cute. Nice to know that Amy and Shaun are real people after all ;) lol. And I won't feel so bad about singing random lines from random songs at random times anymore ;)

Alright, seriously? This post pisses me off quite a bit. You never have anything nice to say about stuff like this. EVER. And now you're "disappointed" that Mr. Lee mentioned what she did on her time off. It has been said many times before that the Lee family has always been a subject of discussion because of Mr. Lee's radio show. They're used to it. He talks about Amy a lot. That's fine. If she were my daughter, I'd be incredibly proud of her and want to talk about her a lot, too. I'm quite sure he didn't call the newspaper and say "Hey, guess what?? Amy went to Wal-Mart!" He isn't like that. I'm sure the paper contacted him because the paper here DOES mention Ev/Amy a lot. Big deal.
You already hurt Amy's feelings once by slamming Shaun in a post. Now you're slamming her father.
Seriously. Think about what you're saying before you say it. Is there really no filter between your brain and your mouth/keyboard anymore?
Color ME disappointed. -Sydmod

The point of me mentioning that was to remind her of what happened the last time she ran her mouth about people close to Amy. Amy SERIOUSLY got her feelings hurt. And apparently it DOES need to be brought back up, since she obviously didn't learn her lesson the first time.

Duh. Everyone knows that Balderdash was the password to get into Gryffindor Tower in Harry Potter.
Of course. Duh. (Your av scares me, BTW. Ew. It just looks bad.)
Actually here's a review that sort of explains it from amazon.com.
Balderdash is a great game that combines wordsmithing and bluffing. To begin, each player rolls the dice to determine who will be the dasher first. The dasher then draws a card, reads the balderdash word to the players, and spells the word. None of these words are ones used in everyday language. (Examples include fleer, runnel, pontage, etc.) Each player jots down a phony definition that sounds credible (or, if you happen to know the real definition, write it down instead), and gives the slip of paper to the dasher. And then the hilarity begins. The dasher must attempt to read each definition and the real one without showing any emotion ... which is much more difficult than it sounds! Some of the phony definitions are hilarious, and often the real definition is too. After all definitions have been read, the dasher asks each player which definition is the correct one, noting that player's choice on the slip of paper. At the conclusion of the round, the players who chose the correct definition move two spaces on the board. The players who received votes for their phony definitions move one space for every vote. And, if no player guesses the correct definition, the dasher moves forward three spaces on the board. For subsequent rounds, each player takes a turn as the dasher. This game is fun, educational, and incredibly hilarious. Someone will crack up with laughter in every round!

What'd Syd's fingers say to MT/FA_AL?... "SLAP!"
But seriously...people freaked 'cause people found out from her Dad that they play Scrabble and shit, who cares?! Im pretty sure she has more important things to think about than "OMG! They Know i play Balderdash..damnit Dad!" Come on! Anyways, i thought the article was rather interesting. I mean, to me they remind me of my friend Danine's family. Doin' the whole board games and singing thing. They're like the Osmonds or the Bradys, or something. (j/k..i would never wish that upon Anyone) And i know how Amy must have felt not really getting to drive for a long time. I didnt Touch a steering wheel or pedals for about 8 months. (Basic and Tech School time)..when i got to drive again, OMG!!! It felt SO---> good! I had to drive my mom's new car, 'cause they sold my truck when i was gone. :( But hey, its a kick ass car, so it was o-tey!

Funny story about WalMart- my cousin and I were in WalMart and we put on Halloween costumes and would like choke when we saw something that said Revlon on it... GO US!!! And then in Hot Topic we ask if the t-shirt comes in sizes for our fish... we are really strange... and then we go get sushi! True story... My dad and I also play Beatles songs when he's home! He plays guitar and I try... keyword try... I'm not that good yet... so then I wind up just singing... That is kind of creepy though... And by the way, hello, I'm new here...

Strategy tactic that really works:
No matter how small your words are, plan your moves so that they DON'T fall near one of those 2w/3w squares. Try and get the others to go near there so you can swipe 'em.
Also, Amy...play scrabble on Yahoo! Games (called Literati). Seriously. You'll get creamed a lot of times but it's SO much fun :)

I used to beat everyone my age at Scrabble. But since I'm the youngest kid in my family (by 3 and 1/2 years) games were very painful for me. My mom is a Scrabble geek. Recently, she's been going over 300 when she plays with my dad. I haven't played in years, because she rubs it in when she wins and it hurts. It hurts me right here. :( *points to heart*
Losing sucks.

I'm not good with big words either...........my one friend uses big words all the time and i just stand there and act like i know what she's saying. This one time she started telling a story about (bear with me cuz it's a big word and i don't think I'm gonna spell it right) a brothel (a whore house i guess) and she must have seen the dumb look in my face and she asked me if i knew what it was and i said,"isn't it a jewish holiday?" I read the Amy post last night and the "me talk good" part amused me to no end. I just waited til everyone else replied before I did..haha.

I usually win at Scrabble. But one memorable loss was near the end of the game, and I had a "Z" in my tray. I had two places I could play it, one place ending in "E" and the other place beginning with "A". I so thought I had that game sewed up! But it was my son's turn next, and he took both places (there was just one space in between) with the word "era".
Anyway, I loved the article. It's cool to think of Shaun and Amy playing fun board games with her family.

amy - "Damn! Well, if i add my O here, then i get Hello... 5 points? Grrrr!"

I dunno what Amy's talking about(well songwise anyway, I haven't really talked to her)...she can get really wordy in her songs. Trust me, you don't know until you try to parody them. she is wordy. she should dominate scrabble...haha.

just for the record,
Shaun smoked all of us at scrabble, including my mom, until we all quit the game and started playing something else. It wasn't even close. What a snob! Who needs big words anyway? Me talk good!
-Amy
at least you weren't playing with my grandma she'll sit there with a dictionary at the ready to correct and challenge your word, and it doesn't help she used to be a school teacher. we gave up on scrabble though:p now we play cribbage and i can actually beat her at that :D

To be honest I am pretty lousy at word game's so I don't generally make a fool of myself by playing  . Saying that though I am pretty good at balderdash as I can keep a straight face playing it. :D

I was playing Scrabble with my mom, dad, and 12 year old brother. He leans over to my father, turns his little tile holder and says "is this a word?" my dad laughs hysterically for about five minutes than shows my mother, who in turn laughs hysterically for five minutes then finally shows me the tile holder. I calmly look at my 12 year old brother and say, "no, max, 'sex tool' is not a word. it is two words." to which he replies "okay. Never mind." sending my parents into another fit of laughter. That is why I no longer play scrabble.

lol i don't blame you... althought your little brother seem to know more tahn he should, i can't say that i didn't laugh when i read the post, i couldn't have hold a straight face, i would've laughed a lot too...
i don't like to play scrabble with my family, it's not that they always win, it's just that it's like a big competition for them... the one game that i rock at, rummikub, i hate math but i love that game... i would love to play balderdash sounds fun...

Hahaha......scrabble. Me and my friends are straightedge, and we always say if we had a party it would be a strightedge party, and scrabble would our main event.

i use to play scrabble too but with my grandma and she always loses....(good for me)
I love scrabble. You just reminded me of those days I used to play scrabble with my Nanny when I was a little kid and we were travelling through Jasper in the motor home on our way to Kelownaaaaa :) *siighs* I miss those days.
So anyhow, my original comment. I love scrabble! I play it with my boyfriend and his best friend all the time, and I mostly always kick their asses. -snicker-Hehe..

heh, if you want to humble him a bit, we aught to put him on touch with my grandpa.
im not too good at it myself. my forte is chess. but as far as scrabble, no one.. no one can beat my grandpa. ill give you an example. something my cousin said when i saw her at Thanksgiving. "i knew i was in trouble when he started spelling letters. i mean who would think of that?" like T= "tee", M= "em".
he helped me get extra credit in middle school english class years ago by giving me some words that use W as a vowel.
thats right folks. according to his scrabble dictionary, (yes, he has a dictionary of unusual words specificly for that game), the rule is 'A, E, I, O, U, sometimes Y, and on very rare occations W'. pronounced like a U, and used is words like 'cwm', meaning a large basin. look it up if you want: http://dictionary.reference.com/

Actually me talk no good englishes either. I used to be REALLY bad in English so my friends and i started talking in an incomprehensible (a real word) language. we like to call it: Mwa is talkes nices. Prob is we started talking like that in class. Not a good idea when you have first language english in an afrikaans school.
We dont play scrabble any more. I wasnt too bad *hehe* but my brother kept on saying that my words weren't real words. Unfair being the little sister...
And Amy: Ask Shuan if he had first language english too. Pro.
Nice article, thanks for posting...

Heh. When I was in 7th and 8th grade, we'd have weekly scrabble championships in my Engish classes. Out of all the kids in my grade, I was runner-up in 7th grade, and in 8th grade I was scrabble champion at the end of the year. :) Yep. I'm a nerd.
