OK folks,

My curiosity has gotten the better of me. I'm just wondering if there are any anime fans (or the more severe case of Otaku) lurking among these forums. Personally, I'm a hard-core anime buff. ^_^ Here's a list of all the anime that I currently own:

http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=1&id=combustedgremlin

As you can see, I'm nuts. lol Anime and music are two of my biggest hobbies. As a matter of fact, I'll be going to Otakon in August, too. ^_^ For those of you who don't know, it's a huge convention held annually and is dedicated to eastern culture (primarily anime.)

And, for the hell of it, some of my favorite series are:

Neon Genesis Evangelion
Rahxephon
Great Teacher Onizuka
The Ping Pong Club
Yu Yu Hakusho
Gokudo
Berserk
Hellsing

Anyway, who else digs anime?

NGE and Hellsing are friggin awesome. Lain is badass too, and I'm watching .hack//sign right now which is fun... very pretty.

I don't want to brag, but my collection's bigger, if only slightly. But then, I go around the law. ;)

Cheaper, though. I only spent around a hundred and fifty bucks on all of Rurouni Kenshin, and two hundred some on One Piece. I had Inu Yasha before the first DVDs hit the shelves of your local FYE. I was watching Shaman King before Viz started publishing Jump. And I go so far as to download fansubbed Naruto episodes the minute they're finished.

But I'll tell ya' this. Looking at your list, you have taste at least. Those are all great series. Evangelion and Lain alone rank in the Top 10 on my list, with X recently given the top slot after I finished watching it all. And RahXephon. Such a great series, I became addicted to ramune. Twenty bucks a twelve pack, but how many people in your neighborhood do you know with fancy Japanese soda?

So, yes, there are plenty of us geeks here. Just wait 'til Ceres pops in. She'll rock your socks. ;)

One of my gaming guild mates keeps telling me to check out Beserk, noticed it because you have it listed there.
Im not a huge fan of anime but i do like it. Working on a new site design for my web site that is gonna have a Cowboy Bebop influence to it.

Yeah, I really like anime. I really like Fist of the North Star. I still need to see all of that series. I have seen most (but not all) of Cowboy Bebop. I really wanna get into some Lain, it looks really good. I still need to see the new version of Vampire Hunter D. We have Spirited Away, but I haven't gotten around to watching that yet.

@ Grifter Thankies. :D Clerks the cartoon rocked!

@ Stingy YOU MUST SEE BERSERK! It's definitely one of the coolest series around. It's more of a "man-ime" (nothing against the ladies. I love the ladies ;) ) and it's highly addictive. Guts, the main character, is cool as hell. He has a sword bigger than Cloud (from Final Fantasy VII) and is truly violent with it. In one episode alone, he kills a hundred men. I've actually converted others to anime because of this series. The english dub is nicely done, too. If there's one series to watch, it's definitely Berserk.

Guts directed at the hawks: Who wants to jerk me off?

"I can feel the mature woman's scent when I look at her."

The best series dubbed were definitely Bebop and Berserk. Most other series' voice actors never come close to the voice of the original character they're trying to portray.

I spend way too much of my money on anime. ^^;;

I tend to be more into the girlier things, but that's okay since I'm a girl and all. My all-time fave right now is Fushigi Yuugi, but I also have Love Hina, Kare Kano, Ah! My Goddess, and Jubei-Chan just to name a few.

I've always wanted to watch Eva, but I haven't found the time to.

 You'd be surprised at the many quality dubs there are! Unlike the poor dubs of the past, companies such as ADV, Animeworks, Bandai and Pioneer are finally considering the fans. Personally, I prefer dubs. I like to savor the entire anime experience (visually and audibly) and not miss things on screen because I was reading subtitles. At least that's my opinion.

:D hmmm......I like most everything anyone on this bored has said except that I think 'Love Hina' is a bit strange.....I know...who am I to talk.... :D ....And I think that these 'translation' versions are crap.....It may just be the stores in Texas but I got a copy of NGE and the pronounced every single thing wrong....I was sitting there wondering why I spent my money on the crap.

o_O Are you talking about the manga or the ADV dub? I know they screwed up some terms during Death and Rebirth and End of Evangelion, but that was Manga's fault. I guess there were legal issues regarding the pronunciation of the term "Eva". Even so, it's still an amazing series. There's so much to ponder that every time you watch Evangelion it's a completely different experience.

Personally, Eva was the series that pulled me into the hobby of anime. The concept that the Evangelion aren't robots, but actual living creatures intrigued me. Also, the fact that the pilots are injected into the units and have to synch mentally and physically with their Eva was very cool, too. So much good stuff!

One of my all-time favorite scenes is when Asuka must defeat 13 Mass Production Units in less than 4 minutes. It's a visual masterpiece. If anybody has access to a download program, try to get a music video of this scene. (Prodigy - Breathe or Nena - 99 Red Balloons) Both are worth checking out. :D

Most people who know me from the O-board (hisss) might remember that my favorite movie of all time is Grave of the Fireflies. It is the greatest war movie (live action or animated) I've ever seen. This movie literally changed my entire outlook on life and it's also the only movie I've ever seen that made me cry like a little baby.

Not all of them , but about 90% are. The only series I would ever watch in English are Bebop, Inu Yasha, and Yu Yu Hakusho.

Eva, Kenshin, Gundam, Trigun, there are millions of them. Dubs = No good.

I'm not going to get into a flame war about dubs. There are people that like them and there are others that hate them. However, as I've mentioned previously, I'd rather absorb everything instead of missing stuff because of the subtitles. And don't get me wrong.....I'm a very fluent reader and studying to be a teacher, but I still prefer English audio with my anime. I have no problem with the english voice actors. The only one I can't tolerate is Saber Marionette J-X. The VAs totally blow. Other than that, I have no complaints.

I recently saw the Bebop Movie (Knocking on Heaven's Door) in theaters, in English. Fucking beautiful. They didn't use Lucas for Spike's voice, but they chose someone who sounded pretty much just like him. Overall, it was translated well and was fucking great. My computer's fucked. I can only download stuff my friend converts for me. KaZaA and Irc don't work for me. That's why I spend at least a couple thousand dollars on anime a year, usually. Add to it the fact that I spend anywhere from two hundred to three hundred bucks a month on comics and it's no wonder I kill people for money.

I was in the same place. I relied on my PS2. Then that broke, so I had to buy a DVD adapter for my X-Box. Then, I found a great deal on DVD players for Christmas (forty bucks for a player after you buy three DVDs). So I got my parents and little sister a kick-ass Christmas gift. ;)

What'd you buy that you can't watch, yet?

Gargoyle: Yes, Boogiepop was fuckin' awesome. I think Ceres said she met the woman who did Panaru's voice, which is cool, since her bit in the series was disgustingly amazing. And I loved Noir, too. Great series, great soundtrack. I haven't finished Wild Arms, yet, and was horribly pissed off when I found out they didn't keep the original game's theme (which is still one of my favorite game themes ever). And Hellsing... I bought the manga before I could finish the series because I got hooked, and I'm glad I did. Great show, great manga, amazing soundtrack. Raid- pick it up.

Ceres
05-09-2003, 12:15 AM
Yeah, I met Kristen Nelson, the voice of Panaru.

I've got Chobits vol 1, argentosoma vol 2 (watched vol 1 in the design lab 2 weeks ago), noir vol 1, all of ceres celestial legend (have seen the 1st 2 vols but that was like a year ago), all of x, lain, gasaraki vol 1, and maybe one or two others. i've lost track of what i've been buying, honestly. some I've owned for awhile but just never had time to watch this year.
If I get a dvd player, I want to get a nicer one since it actually does matter on occasion. lower end players tend to not have crisp blacks and loose coloring. Problem is I've got about 3 expensive things I need more than a dvd player. Though one could double as a dvd player. Need an external harddrive, a pc, and a digi camera. digi camera I can skip. but I really need a pc for online stuff. I don't like using my mac for the internet, it's really starting to mess it up with the various programs like aim and irc.

Alex Hayden

Argento Soma. There's a winner. That series is kicking ass, and the second volume is just as good as the first. Chobits is great, too. I got real into the series after I read the graphic novels Tokyopop published. But X. X is by far my favorite series now. I really hope you get to watch it soon.

^.^ I had no idea there were so many anime fans here. Just about every dime I have goes towards anime related merchandise. I've only been into the craze for seven or eight months, so my collection isn't all that impressive, but I'm working on it. I'm also a bit of a CLAMP fanboy.

Top Five:

1) Wolf's Rain
2) X
3) Escaflowne
4) Chobits
5) Haibane Renmei

And as much as I hate to admit it, Revolutionary Girl Utena is really growing on me. :? *grumbles about relentless girlfriends*

Is RahXephon really as good as people have been saying? I saw the first episode, but wasn't too sure if it was worth spending my money on. I've heard a lot of people comparing it to Evangelion.

Well there is X/1999 (movie) and X tv (8 vol series). I've seen the movie but honestly didn't like it all that much. Saw the 1st vol of the series at Otakon last year so bought the Tokyo dvd of it because it seemed more interesting, although very slow.

I saw Please, Teacher vol 1 at Anime Boston. Bought that, as well. Actually don't think it's available to the general public yet. Pretty funny. Lots of sexual humour.

Goldenboy= study study study study study....

Indeed, Grave of the Fireflies made me cry like a little bit**. It is definately one of the best movies I've ever seen, and definately the best drama.

As far as favorite series:(in no order)
Eva
Escaflowne
Now and Then, Here and There
Cowboy Bebop

I am still working on the rest of Gasaraki, FLCL, His and her Circumstances and Berserk. I'm watching Trigun on Adult Swim, I must say, I am probably going to go and get the box set sometime this summer. :D

As far as the dub/sub thing goes, with DVDs I would pretty much consider the debate irrelevant. With VHS(boo) you HAVE to choose one or the other, or get a double of the same show, movie, ova, whatever.

Oh and Luna and Htnerad, the Bebop movie opens in Houston tomorrow....*looks at time*....or today. :D

Yep. Now called Please, Teacher for the Bandai release.

And honestly, I don't ever watch Toonami or Adult Swim. One, I don't get cartoon network on campus. Two, they're horribly butchered to get them to air on tv. Aren't they doing Inu Yasha right now on Toonami? People were bitching about that. Saying it would have been half decent on Adult Swim but will totally suck on toonami.
I really only see anime series either by my own dvds, friend's dvds, or anime conventions (which I use to find new series to buy). And I pretty much always watch subbed. It doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I totally forget I'm reading after awhile. I was watching Crouching Tiger at a friend's one time and a bunch of people came in and wouldn't shut up. So we were yelling at them to stop talking. They asked if it really mattered if we could hear or not since we were reading what they were saying. I actually had to take a second to realize I was reading it and not hearing it.

I'm more of a manga fan than anime. . . I could go on and on about my favorite manga. . . but I am a fan of anime. . . Escaflowne, Lodoss War, and Ah My Goddess, in particular, but I have to admit, I love the manga so much more than the anime. . . and it's cheaper! Except for the Escaflowne manga, cause it's rare. . . at least the issue that I got. . .

But Inu Yasha! The series has nothing on the manga ^_~ Y'all miss SOOO much! But actually, Inu Yasha is the most faithful to the manga out of all the anime I have seen ^.^ Which I admit isn't too much. . . I'm much more of a bookworm ^_^;

Oh! But one of my favorite anime ever is actually a series of shorts called Robot Carnival! But I haven't seen it in years :( Has anyone else heard of it?

His and Her Circumstances
Love Hina

I got at least a dozen women into anime on Love Hina alone, but His and Her Circumstance and Ai Yori Aoshi work, too. I was all weirded out by the idea of perpetual soap opera anime until I started watching them. Twice as hilarious as anything on TV.

And I have Macross Plus on tape.
Want to see the new Macross series. Heard that was great.

Blood: The Last Vampire. damn that was short!
Also one of the Tenchi movies.

Eh. I hated Blood. It lacked everything a decent vampire anime needed.

But Macross and Record of Lodoss War are great. Pretty much any series where Yoko Kanno covers the music is great.

*Big anime fan*
Most people who know me from the O-board (hisss) might remember that my favorite movie of all time is Grave of the Fireflies. It is the greatest war movie (live action or animated) I've ever seen. This movie literally changed my entire outlook on life and it's also the only movie I've ever seen that made me cry like a little baby.

YOU ROCK! Because Miyazaki rocks, he created Grave of the Fireflies, it's the only movie that everrrrr made me cry. It's sooo good. I love Miyazaki films! Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, Castle in the Sky, and Spirited Away WAHOOO!!! YEEEEEAAA SWWWWWWWEEEEEEETTTTTTTTT!!!!!

Miyazaki is indeed wonderful. GotF had my whole family in tears at the end, which is pretty impressive considering I live with a bunch of avid anime-haters. Of the movies I've seen, Princess Mononoke is my favorite, though.

*sniffs* I loved Blood. But I'm thinking it's probably because of the animation and the clever bilingual voice acting. I really liked that feature.

I actually liked the dubbing in Princess Mononoke. The one who did the voice for Ashitaka, was the best. Very mysterious, and strong. Gillian Anderson (Scully from X-Files) rocked as Moro, the wolf!

Germ

I think one thing fans can expect from Miyazaki films are really good dubs - at least some of the best you'll ever find in anime. Pretty much all of them have well known actors working on them.

I commend you all for your excellent taste in anime.

Here's my list of favorites (and don't laugh):

Akira
Project A-KO Series
Bubblegum Crisis
Bubblegum Crash
X
Battle Angel Alita
Vampire Hunter D
the new Vampire Hunter film
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Record Of Lodoss War
El Hazard
the entire Tenchi Series
Tenchi Muyo Movie
Everything Gundam
the whole Dragon ball series from the original to GT
Blue Seed
Golgo 13/the Professional(crct ttl? haven't seen it in ages)
Ghost in the Shell
Cowboy Bebop
Princess Mononoke
Metropolis
Harmageddon

Those are just off the top of my head. I'm not as hardcore a fan as some of you guys but I enjoy a good anime and manga from time to time. I tend to imagine what ppl irl look like in Japanimation. My hair also tends to take on an anime-like appearance.

Actually, Miyazaki didnt have anything to do with Grave of the Fireflies. It is based on the semi-autobiograhical novel by Akiyuki Nosaka and was written and directed by Isao Takahata. The Miyazaki "influence" probably comes because Studi Ghibli did the animation.

Blood lacked depth and, while I did like it, it equated more to a tech demo, mostly just pretty to look at.

*doesnt laugh at Senor's list* :D

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is an awesome movie. The remastered/redubbed Akira looks just as good as anything out today. Though, Ghost in the Shell, to me, was always a little overrated.

Inuyasha
Chobits
Princess Mononoke
Perfect Blue (such a thought provoking movie)
Fushigi Yuugi
Kare-kano
sailor moon (sorry but i had to put it)
Laputa Castle in the Sky

I haven't cosplayed yet, but I'm certainly going to. My biggest problem is that I can never decide on who I want to try, so I end up doing nobody at all. I do know for a fact that I'll be cosplaying adult Loki from Matantei Loki Ragnarok next year at AFO. *nods* Girlfriend was quite insistent on this.

Ceres
05-11-2003, 04:37 AM
cosplayers sometimes give me the jibblies. Then again, about 80% of anime fans give me the jibblies. At least of the ones that attend cons, anyway. 14 year olds should not be allowed to wear skimpy bikini things as their costume. Though it is fun to watch. And I'm not quite sure anything will ever surpass Mecha-King Ghidorah singing Bohemian Rhapsody *tear*

I've never dressed up but I've wanted to. I think the main problem is that the majority of people I would want to dress up as, don't really have anything that sticks out about them. Mostly wear the school girl outfit which would be the LAST thing I'd ever wear.
Maybe I'll try Merle from Escaflowne.

At anime boston I think more than half the girls dressed as chobits. So any girls here looking to dress-up, you might want to avoid that one if you want a semi different costume from everyone else.

Alex Hayden
05-11-2003, 11:14 AM
I see nothing wrong with the school girl outfit for cosplay. ;)

Try something simple but stylish, like Nami from One Piece. The hair's simple, and all you need is a fake tattoo, tight top, and a hook-stitch leather skirt. If I could pull it off, you should be able to.

Guilty Gear (its a game soon to be series...hopefully)
Tekkaman Blade
Boogiepop Phantom

One of my all-time favorite scenes is when Asuka must defeat 13 Mass Production Units in less than 4 minutes. It's a visual masterpiece. If anybody has access to a download program, try to get a music video of this scene. (Prodigy - Breathe or Nena - 99 Red Balloons) Both are worth checking out. :D

-Gremmy

I have one thats set to Rammstein's Spielhur. It rules much ass. Theres also another one with Asuka lip synched to Feuer Frei. One of the first AMVs I saw, though technically not an AMV, was Final Fantasy 7 set to NIN's Something I Can Never Have, much goodness.

I watched my Chobits dvd finally. Very cute and funny. vol 2 comes out on tuesday :).

For series I'm really interested in, I try to get the regular dvds. Very few tokyo dvds have a good translation. Like my version of X which has a ton of mistakes in only the first episode. And downloading isn't really possible as my school has blocked everything. I'd need to find some decent ftp servers. Probably could find them but just have never really taken the time.

I've seen the 1st vol. Have the 2nd. Almost watched it but decided to watch please teacher again since I had a hard time reading the subtitles over people's heads. Funny that they kept onegai teacher for the manga but not dvd. Marie is soooooo cute. I want an animation of it/him/her sleeping with the snot bubble for an avatar. b00h00. I don't have any video capturing hardware :(.

I can easily get programs to create amvs but w/o the video capturing option, it kind of sucks. I've really wanted to make one, too. VNV Nation has some of the best music that would be perfect for an amv. Wanted to use Joy for an Escaflowne one. *sigh*

If any of you have PS2, like the shoot em dead avatar games....try Gun Grave. It rawks! It has this whole anime movie that plays in between stages to further fill in the story. One of the big anime artists is the one that created the game, can't remember now which one it is though.

Not only does the music rock, but the characters are straight up kooky. Regardless, it's alot of fun and if you can beat it on Master mode, I commend you. GITAROO MAN! is like a drug. Berserk was great, had great animation, decent soundtrack. Record of Lodoss War was... meh. I know it's old, it had okay animation, but I just hated the storyline. It was like a super-lame D&D campaign.

I just finished watching all of Shaman King on DVD. And since my computer sucks, I bought the first thirty episodes of Naruto on DVD, too.

I've read every chapter of the manga released, something like 176, but since my processor's so slow, the anime runs like shit on my computer, so I bought the DVDs from Japan and watched them. Crystal clear animation, and pretty decent subtitles (a bit literal at times). I seriously hope it gets liscenced sometime within the next year, which is entirely possible considering how fast it got this popular over the Net.

The Sakura and Ino fight is pretty lame compared to the other fights, but considering the rivalry, and the hair-cutting, and the flashbacks, it was probably the only fight besides Hinata and Neji's with any build-up.

I don't really feel like reading through eight pages of this so I don't know if it's been mentioned, but I'd like to say that Berserk is the best anime evar. If you haven't seen it the series is avalible on six DVDs, and the manga is coming this fall, from Dark Horse I think. There was also a pretty decent Dreamcast game released in the US years before the anime called Sword Of The Berserk: Gut's Rage, which actually comes after the show as the story in the manga goes past the shows end.

Alex Hayden
07-23-2003, 05:05 PM
Also coming this fall, Hellsing and Trigun, both from Dark Horse, and a manga adaptation of The Ringu. Now, I've read both Hellsing and Trigun (and most of Trigun: Maximum), but I don't really have any interest in reading a Ringu manga.

Germ
07-23-2003, 05:11 PM
I wasn't too interested in the Ringu mangas either, but considering right now all of the series we have in the US is the first movie and the book, I'll settle for the manga. I want more Ringu spiffiness. That is, of course, assuming they're releasing more than just the movie and/or the book adaptions.

I heard that along time ago, but I don't really keep up with anime stuff to much so I don't know if it'll ever happen, just read the manga when it comes out.

Ring-I know alot of people are real bitchy about the proper titles of stuff, I really don't care, but just thought I'd let you know that Ringu was a title made up for the US release of the Japanese movie. I think the manga was based on the book but I'm not positive, I know the book came first and there's several movies based on it as well as a Dreamcast game.

ahh yes, i see the BERSERK following is not as small as i thought :) and what the hell is this talk about a 2nd season? that would just make my day if its true, i mean, the ending to the 1st one just left me pulling my hair out!

I loved Berserk. I only heard a rumor about a possible second season.

Another rumor.....possible second season to Hellsing

I heard the Ring game on the DC really blew ass. :?

There was a manga adaption of the book, and then when the movie came out, there were I think two manga written to tie into the film. Then more movies... and more manga... and more books... and TV specials... x_x Sheesh that's a huge franchise in Japan. Never knew about the game though... o_O What in the world would you do in it?

:shock: sadly to say I have never read or seen Love Hina. I don't have the time or the money actually lol to spend on reading and watching it. ;_;

Me either. I swipe them from my boyfriend, who works for Suncoast. He gets an employee discount. :D

Also coming this fall, Hellsing and Trigun, both from Dark Horse, and a manga adaptation of The Ringu. Now, I've read both Hellsing and Trigun (and most of Trigun: Maximum), but I don't really have any interest in reading a Ringu manga.

Hellsing DVD's? I'm guessing your are referring to the lastest volume?

Fruits Basket is definatly one of the best anime in existance. It's hard to watch that and not be effected some way emotionally.

I have to quit having these manga reading marathons. -_- I end up doing nothing at all all day, but scanlations are so nice.

For once, while watching that, I didn't get upset with the boys for planting their arses in front of their NHL Hockey PS2 game for hours on end. I was in the other room with my eyes glued to the tv watching FB.

I got sick of the Naruto eps taking forever to get past those Chuunin trials so I went on irc and downloaded the manga to where it takes place around there, and read past the trials, and... wow. Naruto is one awesome story. XD I love it too much. Never thought I'd like a shonen anime this much.

Garaa, like most of the characters in it, is awesome btw.

I'm not really too big of an anime fan (Mostly because I've barely seen any of it) but I LOVE Hayao Miyazaki's work. I also really love Serial Experiments Lain, and Gundam Wing.

Oh, and I've got to love Sailor Moon. The old episodes anyway. I've got so many memories with that anime..:P

Bwaa. My friend told me a Dragon BallZ joke yesterday.

How many Dragon BallZ charachters does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Only one. But it'll take 'em 3 episodes to do it.

Bwhaah, I thought that was funny. Because I used to watch DBZ once in a while to see what it was like. And it always seemed to me it took a long time for anything to happen.

Oi. I still need to see FLCL, but it'll probably be awhile. There's no way I'm paying 30 bucks for a DVD with only two eps on it.

I've been keeping up on the RahXephon DVD releases... wow, that's developing into such a great show. The first episode I saw way back when had me kind of weary due to how similar it was to Evangelion, but it's really become it's own now. I likie. *can't wait for next DVD to come out*

I saw the series about 7 months ago, it was very good.

But it's also different in many ways. The weapons though, reak of Evangelion. At least the bow & arrow did.

Um..the only anime I've ever seen was Dragonball Z, some videos for anime programs I've never even heard of with Evanescence songs in them (which was the reason I downloaded them), and some program on Adult Swim about baseball.

I've never really watched anime, probably since I've never had cable/satellite. I've seen friends watch it befo but..yeah.

I think if I had cable/satellite I would watch some anime. There's just too many programs out there to name. I was at fye a few days ago, and again today - and saw a ton of anime DVDs. Saw some that I just laughed at, they looked really stupid.

What I hate the most about anime (note that I don't know if it's like this for most animes..I think it is): "Mr/Ms ______...you MUST retrieve ______/defeat _______/accomplish ______ or your family will SUFFER and DIE and the WORLD WILL EXPLODE!! The universe lies in your hands. Good luck." or "You must do ______ or you'll die. Your life depends on it. Good luck."

I think Gundam Wing is cool - I've never seen it tho. But I played one of the games (or is it the only one) on ZSNES (emulator)..it was one of my favorite Super Nintendo games, I don't got it anymore, which sucks. It was a fighting game, really cool. I always got to the last boss - Evangilion or Evanyon or something - and either lost both rounds or won one and lost two, GAME OVER. Hard.

What other anime do I know of..okay, I can't think of any. Besides Pokemon, Yugioh, Mega Man??, whatever's been on the WB/FOX..oh, Digimon and some show about robots battling or something. Only anime I've watched on TV constantly was Dragonball Z (when it was on UPN for that short while), Pokemon (why I don't know) and Yugioh a few times. Yugioh was okay, a few episodes, then it got on my nerves and I don't care to watch it anyways. "YUGIO! You MUST defeat ______ or you'll lose the touranment and your grandfather will (I don't know, die??) And JOEY!! Your sister will go BLIND!! or whatever..."

I don't mean to make anime sound bad through stereotypes, I know it's not all like this. But most are it seems (ones on network TV at least), and they tend to get annoying. Don't get me wrong...I think anime's cool (how it looks, like I've said, never seen much anime besides WB/FOX stuff..)..

If the most exposure you've had is DBZ, and the majority of other shows on the WB, I can see where your perspective is coming from. If you wanna try something else, I highly recommend Cowboy Bebop, which comes on Adult Swim. Evangelion has something of the save the world vibe, but the overall story may well make your head spin. It is an excellent show. The first episode was shown on Toonami a while ago. Though that wouldnt be enough to get even an idea of the show.

Also, try Trigun which also comes on Adult Swim. Just be aware that the tone changes about halfway through, from comedy/ action, to drama/some comedy/ action.

Anime people are weird.... *looks around*

Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop for sure, Trigun, Princess Mononoke definately, Outlaw Star, and Blue Gender was interesting, I wish I saw more of it.
And, Furi Kuri......I still don't get the point of that series, but it was fun watching it. "Fooly cooly is when you use your hands like this" *wiggles fingers* ~Dirty Grandfather

Anime storylines and animation styles have gone down a lot recently, Bebop had style. ;) Just about anything you see on Saturday morning is utter crap. If anime gets any worse, we are going to see a new trend in entertainment take the spotlight. Poor youth thinks that Fox programming is the best Japanimation has ever been. *wipes away tear*

Outlaw Star was good, Dragonball and DBZ are good. Seen some of DBGT. InuYasha is decent. Movies I've seen are Ghost in a Shell. It was decent. 8 Man After was kick ass. Tank Police was good. Almost saw Aika Naked Mission but the g/f was in the house. But the best Anime I've ever seen has got to be Vampire Hunter D. It was the shit. I recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen anime. FLCL is one of the most imaginative series ever made, but if you watched it on Adult Swim, ya' fucked yourself. It's expensive as shit to buy dubbed, two episodes a DVD and thirty bucks a DVD- six episodes long. But I never buy licensed anime, so I got it cheap. But uncut is definitely the way to watch it.

Eh. I thought WHR was a nice enough series (I really loved the charactor designs) but they could have done sooo much more with it. I got bored and stopped watching around ep nineteen or so, and from what I've heard not much [interesting] happened with the plot between then and the last ep. I'll definitely be buying the DVDs when I get the money, though. Hopefully I'll finish it then.

I'm all for a second season of it. ^_^ Yeah. Right.

I've recently been finding time to get into anime myself. So far I've watched an older one called Tekkaman Blade. Very awesome anime. It features normal man size type mech armor. It was kinda dreary and depressing, but I still enjoyed it very much. Although I watched the dubbed version, I hear the fansubbed version that is slowing being released is even better. So I hope to get the DVDs eventually for that.

The other anime that I've watched a fair amount of is Card Captor Sakura. I started watching it while I was almost through with Tekkaman Blade so CCS was a welcome refresh with its lighter side storyline and characters. Although I do love how the characters have evolved over the series and Tomoyo is probably my favorite for her repeated selfless acts for her friends.

Lastly an anime that I've been looking to get into lately is the .hack series. I've read a little bit on what the general story setup for it is, and it sound very interesting with the MMORPG and all. I've even seen an episode on Cartoon Network late at night and it was pretty good even though some of the dubbed voices just didn't sound right to me though I haven't heard the original voices yet.

I don't care what anyone says. Cardcaptor Sakura is the coolest cute show in existance. I really admire CLAMP's flexibility with their series. Stuff that's nice and cutesy and sweet like CCS... and apocalyptic angsty X. ^_^ Gotta love those ladies. Hopefully their manga Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle is made into an anime. It's a really neat series that crosses over almost all of their previous series, focusing mainly on Syaoran and Sakura. I dunno if it'll ever happen though. Copyright laws might make things difficult, and it'd be hard to get the voice actors back.

You'd probably find these anime videos featuring Evanescence songs in them on particular anime fan sites, or better yet, a file sharing program like Kazza.

I heard a guy at Best Buy pronounce it "Ka-zah" yesterday...friend of mine's said he heard it's like that too, but we called it "Kahza"...we don't talk about it anymore, cause, well, who gives a fuck about it, and we both use Bearshare cause of that RIAA thing and cause of all that spyware shit...he on the other hand, don't care...neither of us really use that shit anymore, and he don't even go on the computer no more...but back on topic, yeah, you'll find better luck with something like Kazza or Kazaa...(not sure which one it is, don't use the program)

thanks for the tip! :D i hate using kazaa though, it messes with my pc
ummmm what's bearshare? (sorry to sound completely stupid and all but i had to ask)
i guess i'll use google to search fansites.

i thought it was "ka-zah"? thats how me and the people i no say it anyway. oh well maybe its an english thing?

I guess it is "ka-zah"...none of my friends really use(d) computers, so there was no need to discuss file sharing programs or anything computer related.

Bearshare is a file sharing program...less spyware stuff...I think. I've used it for a long time...it don't turn up as many results as Kazaa from what a friend told me, and it downloads a bit slower, but I don't know, personally, I would prefer it over Kazaa.

Good luck with finding the particular fan sites with the videos.

Bear Share is one of the worst when it comes to installing spyware on your PC.

If you have a Mac try Poisoned (http://www.poisonedproject.com/poisoned.php), its Open Source and accesses the Kazaa networks

Bear Share is one of the worst when it comes to installing spyware on your PC.

 it is? I haven't had any problems with it...

I could care less, cause I don't do much online or with my computer/laptop...plus, I use Bearshare like...once every few months.

And with that said, I'm currently uninstalling Bearshare. No need for it on my laptop anyways.

Hi, dead-thread!

I figured I would post this here, as I know there are a number of Witch Hunter Robin fans at this board... seems that they are going to making a live action version of the show for the Sci Fi channel. Personally, I think this is a wonderful idea. I've always thought that of all the anime I've seen, WHR would do the best with mainstream americans, due to its similarities to shows like X-Files, and Buffy. I'm slightly worried about cheap special effects, a thing Sci Fi channel shows are famous for, but I don't think WHR is really demanding in that aspect. If done right, we could be in for a bit of a treat. :D

I just saw, what is it, SG or SD Gundam? For the first time. It's..cute :D

That (now), along with Powerpuff Girls, Tom & Jerry, and Dexter's Labratory, is all I really watch on Cartoon Network. Family Guy..I have all the episodes on DVD, and Futurama I do too, well, I've seen enough of it anyways (these don't qualify as anime anyways)

Whatever that is, It could probably be a masterpiece, did any of you see Taken on the sci-fi channel?

but did you see Battlestar Gallactica? absolute crap. Taken was one of the few things Sci Fi channel has ever done well. Farscape was the other and they got rid of it because absolute retards run that channel.

Its SD Gundam, the SD stands for Super Deformed....I really don't like the series though, never liked the other gundam series.

I have been downloading lots of anime off of Bit Torrent from this website: www.animesuki.com

I have been downloading Mahoujin Guru Guru, the Live Action Sailor Moon episodes (the 15th just came out today), Rockman.EXE Axess, Chrno Crusade, and a new anime called Yumeria. Most, if not all, of the things on Anime Suki are not licensed for DVD or VHS release (not too sure about Rockman though, i would think that it would be licensed)

Anime Suki rawks.

Right now the only thing I'm following is Full Metal Alchemist, which is a really good series I'm certain is going to do well with the US when it's released here. <3 I have my hands full between that and trying to watch Scrapped Princess, which somehow I managed to completely ignore while it aired.

Hopefully I'll get around to Chrno Crusade soon, I've heard a lot of good things about it.

From what I've been hearing, Farscape is making a come back. I read it in a last minute blurb in a magazine....I'll have to do some searching and post the name f said magazine. :)

Also, for Evangelion fans: The first of two DVD re-releases or directors cuts of Collections 7 and 8 is out now. They feature previously unseen footage, interviews with a couple of the guys from WETA who are involved with the Eva live action movie.

I don't even want to know what Robin will sound like with an English voice. The Japanese version was amazing.

It's great that CTN is showing such good animes, but at the same time it sucks ass because the dubs are going to blow.

If you can, download the Live Action Sailor Moon series, if you were a fan of the anime, you will love the Live Action one.

I watched the first episode... which was... extremely hilarious. All the colored wigs on the japanese people cracked me up. I have a few other eps downloaded, but I'm saving them for when I'm drunk for an even more amusing experience. :D
