I can't get on EvBoard because AOL is screwing up my computer, and I'm going crazy. All the new posts, threads, etc. in a magical place I cannot access... :( Can someone help me? Everytime I try to log on, my computer says, 'WAOL has caused an illegal action. WAOL will now close.' and it just shuts down. Right now I'm on my laptop, which does the same thing, except it does it over and over when I open AOL. If I click 'close' enough times, it'll let me through. But my other computer is not so easy. I am totally lost as to what to do, for computers are far to complicated for my under-developed brain, lol. Any help will be very greatly appreciated!!! :D

I can't help you much than saying.. Yes, Yes it is evil
I had downloaded the AOL messenger, and it really messed up with all of my comp. Even one speaker wouldn't work :S, among most of the system.
Anyway, the computer guy came to help me out, and he had to erase the Windows (with all in it) and instale it again.
He told me that AOL products have this kinda publicity that when you download something, you're downloading it too. And a bunch of technical stuff I did not understand. Bottom Line: "Do Not download anything that is from AOL", he said. Cause it downloads something to your system and makes it work wrong (and yeah it did)

Please don't say things that are false. That's how people get bad information. AIM does not crash your computer. There was probably something else very wrong with your PC to begin with if they had to format/install windows again. Millions of people use it :-/
AIM does contain spyware, but it can easily be removed. That won't crash your computer though.
As far as the AOL problem, I'm not sure. Can you uninstall / reinstall AOL? I'm not even sure how the whole AOL / Internet system works.

AOL, once installed on your comp is the devil to remove. I had to re-format/re-install my dad's comp to get rid of it.
AOL uses proxy servers to surf the Web. You are never directly connected to it. You are totally dependant on their servers. You can still use IE or Netscape, but the AOL will still monitor your surfing and aim spywares at you. The discs make great coasters however. When I am on the road working in the States, I use my AT&T internet account if I can't find a Sympatico POP(point of presence) site.
AOL might be good for supervising and controlling kids on the Net, but thats about all I see good about it.
Type 'AOL Problems' into Google and you will see what I mean. That BuddyLinks thing is worse than Bonzi Buddy

I am one of those who hate AOL but it is hard for me to leave due to all the marketing that I have that has my @aol.com address on it. Until I run out of that marketing, I will stay will AOL. That WAOL problem, I get every so often. I clean out my files every 30 minutes with a washer system. That seems to have reduced the number of times that I see that WAOL. I have asked AOL what that WAOL was for and they say that it is a problem with Microsoft. Ahhh, the power of praying on those who don't know much about computer, as I do not. They pass the buck, or problem in this case, to someone else. After threatening to change providers, they came up with the uninstall idea. I did have to unistall and reinstall AOL this last time. That seemed to help.

I had a similar problem and I fixed it by removing Windows and then reinstalling it, that's right I said Windows, not AOL.

i feel for you i dealt with the same crap when i had aol, it truly is evil. what i did to solve that problem was getting a new internet provider and now i'm free! lol. but yeah, switching to adelphia powerlink (what i have now) has saved me from going crazy.

The only thing have to do is to remove from your computer... and delete any entry in your registry... just clean up your system... :)

I'm sorry, but I just said what the tech guy told me was happening.
I know not much of comps, if I call him 'cause my speaker wouldn't work...

I tried to cancel AOL a long time ago, and they wouldn't let me! They kept trying to sell me more internet and going "I'm sorry you don't like us anymore, how about this deal?" and I felt like vomiting on the phone, and letting them hear it all.
They also kept billing me after I had officially canceled, for two months. I called them up and they said, "Oh, sorry about that. We'll repay you in credit." What good is credit going to do when I'm not doing business with them anymore?! I demand CASH!
Uhg... anyway, sorry. I had to say that. Yes, AOL is evil.

Well with AOL's quality, they will try and cling to as many costumers that they can.

If you have 9.0 that could be the problem. We had put 9.0 on our computer and we had to have everything reinstalled because it. The computer techs told us that 9.0 corupts files for Windows and that AOL has some lawsuits against them because of it.

Had a similar problem when I changed to cable internet. I cancelled AOL and they sent me a letter telling me THEY had cancelled ME for non-payment. They actually tried to debit my bank account a week AFTER I had cancelled them. It took many phone calls and letters returned with rude little notes attached for them to get the message. My husband even ran over one of their discs with his truck and sent the crunched up mess back to them telling them where they could stick it. :D Gotta love his creativity!!

Ok, Everyone, Listen Up
Complaining about AOL is not going to help this person solve their problem. I don't want to see another post on here unlress it helps them fix their problem in some way or form.
