ok..i wasnt sure where to put this, so if its in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it.
ok, ive been looking at digital cameras for my birthday(my parents wont let me go with them and buy what i want..they just let me "suggest" things) and i went to overstock.com because they have decent priced digital cameras(most of the time) and i was wondering if any of the cameras on this page (http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=CATLIST&PRO_SUB_CAT=813&PRO_SSUB_CAT=2358) are good.
overstock seems to have a lot of "mustek" cameras, does anyone know how good these are? i dont want my parents to spend a lot of money on a camera and when we get it find out that its a worthless piece of crap. thanks! :)

Only thing I can offer is never buy mustek. We bought one for four hundred dollars and it refused to work with any pc we have ever tried it on. Using one of the USB memory card readers will get the images to go from the card to the PC, but on the mustek we had it was very dodgy quality, horrible with dim lighting and all around a pain in the ass.

I have a Minolta. My dad has an Olympus. Both cameras kick ass.
I didn't see our particular ones on there, but I can tell you that Olympus and Minolta you can trust. My Minolta took my pictures of the Ev show and afterwards, hooks up directly to my USB port and is easy as hell to use.
I'll look at the cameras more closely and see if I can give you anything else, though.
Oh yeah. And Nikons pwn. Just to let you know. My dad has a fantastic Nikon camera that's like 15 years old and works perfectly.
EDIT:
Ooohh..go for the Minolta DiMage...Mine is a Minolta DiMage x20. That one is a G500. It's kinda like my camera, but better lol. The S414 is okay, but the other one is better.
The Olympus Stylus would be good, too.
Most of these look like a good buy. I can tell you that Minolta, Olympus, and Nikon are good brands for certain. I know that doesn't narrow the list much, but it should give you some idea.
Here's what my camera has, to give you an idea:
3x optical zoom (not that amazing, but it's nice)
4x digital zoom (i.e. zooming when viewing pictures)
USB interface
JPG format
Movie mode (w/ audio)/picture mode
Works with standard SD memory cards
2.0 Megapixels (that G500 had FIVE)

I have the Kodak DX6490. And let me say I love it. It has:
10x optical zoom (perfect for those concert going pictures)
4 Mega pixels, which isn't the best but it's decent
Large LCD screen
I can also tell you that Best Buy usually has it on sale between $379 and $399. I can also tell you that Kodak has a new one out. Here's the link (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1087340933935&skuId=6741617&type=product&cmp=++) for the new one. It appears that it is essentially the same, with only 1 Megapixel more. If it were up to me, I'd spring for the new Kodak 5 Megapixel. But if you want true help with cameras, Lowercountry is the man to see.
Here's the link (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1077629866140&skuId=6542404&productCategoryId=cat04002&type=product) for my camera if you're interested.

I believe it was Consumer Reports that said Sony and Canon were the top two brands in reliability... the third was either Olympus or Fuji. Kodak was rated well below the high achievers, I have one myself, and I know why. I wouldn't recommend them. Consider the cost of extra memory for the camera too. SD memory tends to be a good bit cheaper than some types.

There is a recent publication of digital photography that rates my kodak model as one of the top 10 out there to own. Just so you keep that in mind when your parents go shopping.

i used to have a sony, loved it. awesome pictures everytime, but i gave it to my friend what i got my sony video camera w/ regular camera built in, so i dont know what exact model it was. you can probably get a pretty good one for cheap, but if you want professional quality, it'll cost you. I'd say go with a sony, i have a sony video camera-love it, a sony outloud cd player-love it, and a sony portable cd player-couldn't live without it.

The only digital camera I've ever had is a Sony (Cyber-shot? DSC-P51? LoL I don't even know how to list it  ) and it SUCKS MAJOR MONKEY ASS!! You can only use a certain type of battery on it, which are hard to find and expensive when you DO find them, it runs through batteries quickly even when you do recharge them, and it doesn't like to let you know what you're doing. The pixels are horrible, as is the memory card, and you can only see what you're trying to do by the words on the screen, which show up as light. However, the light doesn't like to work right so the words are blurry with missing bits. It friggin sucks! I've given up pretty much all hope on it. I need a new camera :( .

digital camaras are a pain but they do are required, just make sure you have a large enough hd that the pics you take and the software you run for those pics can take it
