I didn't hear about this band until today, and I must say I like them. "Ain't Love Grand" is the first song I've heard by them, and it's a pretty good song, and one I recommend downloading. If you like Avenged Sevenfold, you might like these guys as well. So, yeah, am I the only one that's heard of Atreyu?

They played here in Little Rock a while back. I'll agree with Aubstress -- the vocals are too [incongruously] hardcore for my taste, and I'm not much for any form of punk. Still, they do put on a great live performance.

I love atreyu, they're one of the best bands out there. First of all, Atreyu is not punk, they're metal, some of their earlier work does sound punkish but they've definently established their own unique sound now, and it's nothing like punk, second, alex (vocalist) doesn't scream, he growls......and then brandon (vocals/drummer) brings in the melody. They kick @ss. Another good song to look for is a vampires lament. You should seriously buy the cd, suicide notes and butterfly kisses, it f*cking rocks!

Meh, they are ok.. far from the best melodic metalcore band.. I've seen them a couple times as well and they put on good shows, very good presence... Lyrics are ok, but nothing to write home about... All in all they are a decent band...

I've been meaning to pick up their CD for quite a while now....I would say I'll pick it up soon, but that never happens....Still, I think I have a sampler disc with one or two of their songs, I'll give that a listen and see from there. :)

You should check your history. Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, and numerous other metalcore bands have their roots in the noisecore scene that ran from roughly the early releases of Coalesce in the mid-90s through to Converge's Jane Doe -- a record released in September of 2001. Bands like the afoementioned (but also Botch, early Cave In, Isis, National Acrobat, Dillinger Escape Plan, and a host of others) combined metal (particularly thrash and grind) with chaotic hardcore-emo (ala Angel Hair, Heroin, and other Gravity bands), added a heavily technical math rock edge, and ended up crafting a sound that damn near turned into a revolution. It might have succeeded had two of the big four (Botch and Coalesce) not broken up just after their defining releases. Neither Converge nor DEP have been prolific enough to keep things going. Point in fact, Converge just today (September 21st) released their followup to Doe. It's been three goddamned years.

Modern metalcore took what these bands did, dropped a lot of the technicality (which I suppose made the musc more accessible), but they probably won't even begin to approach the status of their noise-core predecessors. Converge, Coalesce, Botch, DEP... These bands are legends in the indie scene, and given A7X's feud with Converge, and their recent signing to Warner Bros, it's pretty unlikely that the new wave of metalcore is going to last very long or have much of an impact in either the metal or hardcore scences. The exception may be Darkest Hour, who have resolved themselves to remaining within the hardcore scene.

That all being said, Atreyu has roots in hardcore. They have roots in noisecore, a genre that was firmly rooted in the hardcore scene. Futhermore, much of the chaotic elements popular i metal (and with metalcore bands) are the result of hardcore's influence on metal in the 1980s. Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica... all of these guys were listening to Black Flag, Discharge, and the Misfits as much as they were listening to Sabbath.

I love Atreyu. I randomly picked up "The Curse" one day and I must say, I don't regret it one bit.

Hell. My dad even likes them. XD

I love the integration of Alex and Brandon's vocals. While I would still love Atreyu even if it was just Alex's vocals, the addition of Brandon's melodic voice makes the songs simply perfect. Ahh. <3

OMG ATREYU! I love them beyond beleif. I've known about them for about 3 months and they are one of my fave bands of all time. I listened to their album THe Curse on headphones at Borders and it was love at first riff. Personally, I love screaming metal as long as there is at least a little singing. i am in love with their lyrics and those guitar solos...don't get me started. Oh geez those pounding drums...*has a spaz attack*! I like them just as much as Linkin Park, HIM, Killswitch Engage and all those other good ones.

What? May I ask why the screaming ruins it for you???? It's called depth, brandons singing combined with alex's screaming/growling/just plain amzing vocal style makes atreyu one of the greatest metal bands to come out in a while. They in my opinion are freash breath of air into the collapsed lung of the horrible music scene of today.

Please try and look past the screaming if you dont like it, just listen to what they have to say and how they say it. I think a lot of bands lack lyrical ability, and thats why the scene sucks, so when bands like atreyu for example come out of hiding and release this vast vocabulary and knowledge, it gets lost on most popular music fans(not saying your one of them) thats the reasons bands like nickleback are so popular. Corprate america is cramming these un-intellegent bands down our throat and telling us its ok to be stupid. Well guess what it's not. "It will be the mass of un intellegent youth that brings down wrath from the heavens" -gallileo- I am not trying to come off all high and mighty or anything, but I pride myself on being somewhat smart when it comes to music. Now that doesn't meen that what bands I like should be forced upon others, it just meens that I have a little wiggle room to use here. I'm not going to list all of my "qualifications" when it comes to music because that would be arrogant and quite rude. If you must know why I consider myself "smart" when it comes to the music world, please pm me and I'll list them for you.

Atreyu or not, you have to admit the music scene needs a extreme change. No matter what type of music you like, almost all of the mainstream atrists in the (insert genre here) world suck. We as consumers shouldn't have to go look for obscure underground artists, the record lables should be able to have both sides of the spectrum signed. They could have thier nicklebacks and thier 50cents but then give us more artists like atreyu or atmosphere or gavin degraw. I urge all of you who agree with what I am saying to write to labels and tell them they are doing a shitty job, stop buying thier music, and stop going to thier shows. Thats why file sharing is so beautiful, because it takes away money from artists who cant even sing(i.e. ashley simpson) and it gives exposure to more deserving people. Take evanescence for example, they are one of the few mainstream bands that have depth to thier music and lyrics. (w00t go amy) Yet, fallen was one of the top downloads on kazaa, yet it sold a crap load full of albums. And look at how well fallen is doing, that proves to me that there are some people out there that actually give a damn about what thier music is saying to and about them and they care if they have an actuall cd in thier hands instead of some shitty burned copy with no art work.

Well.....my rant has made me VERY sleepy so, I am gonna go take a nap before we go onstage.

Thank-you very much for listening to my rant.
ATREYU ROCKS!

It may not "ruin" it for people, not all anyway, it's just personal preference. I prefer to not hear screaming, but still I like voices that soar.

I gotta say The Remembrance Ballad or Side of the Bed is my favorite Atreyu song. They're a very good band. I don't mind the screaming too much.. because I can get past it... the guitarists play really hard stuff especially in the beginning of Lip Gloss and Black, they're talented.

Seeing as how I saw Atreyu at the Warped Tour back on July 14th, I'm surprised that I'm just now posting a review:

Anyways, they definately rocked, and they were probably my favorite band of the day. They performed at I think 1:10, so early in the afternoon. It was awesome rocking out to some Atreyu in the afternoon. At any rate, here's the setlist:

Bleeding Masscara
The Crimson
You Eclipsed By Me
Right Side Of The Bed
Lip Gloss & Black

I'm sure I'm missing a song, but that's all I remember. They were definately well received by the crowd and like I said, they were easily the best band I saw all day. If they come back to Calgary, I'm definately going to see them again.

I'm not really into all the emo-screamo stuff but, I'm actually starting to get into these guys. I'm not too fond of the screaming, but I really like the drummer's vocals. But I think this is the farthest I'm going to get into the screamo genre :p I think I'm gonna download "Ex's and Oh's" now, there's a free download of it on AOL if anyone's interested.
