Considering there's a 'I love EvBoard' thread, and countless other 'I love ____' ones as well, I thought why the hell don't we show our colours and be proud of our barren wasteland for a country.

So... whether it's your home town, state or the entire friggen country... why would you choose Aus over any other place in the world to live?

Hmmmm Gold Coast is good, but no place can beat Brissie. Although 90% of the people up here are arseholes, it is still a lovely place. Plus, I live in Brissie so that automatically makes it cool :D

oh look. go me. past the 400 mark hehe. i rock

Meh... Australia's pretty nice. The people are cool, the weather's great, and the meat is relatively cheap. But it's a bit isolated, and the US is where it's all happening. I'll probably move there after my studies. Sorry to say that.

Hell yes,Aussie Pride!

I always get the Asian Pride stuff off've my friends but yet they can't explain to me what it is.It's the same as Aussie Pride isn't it? :p

Hmm I'm proud to live in Australia because.....from what I hear from overseas we are a cool bunch of people and we are really relaxed....and....I errmmm dunno what else. There's Big Day Out,there's our own cool accent, there's also ..... oh yeah and Australia has a lot of unrecognised talent.Well I'm proud to be an Aussie without a good reason :D *<----big vegemite smile*

Fuck cookies! Be a true Aussie and give him a biscuit - a Tim Tam preferably!! Aussies rule over the Yanks because our laws allow us to be able to drive and to 'legally' drink at the same age. What better reason can there be???? :D

The letter "u"!

And Jadey, you are 100% right. One of the best things about Australia is our proper use of the letter 'u'.

So true!! :D That and the fact we appear to be the only beings in creation that can say the word "Australia" correctly. There seems to be the Queens version = Oooooostralia or the strangled-cat American version Oztralia or even worse, Ossies with a huge emphasis on the oss.

And I'm not even going to mention the slaughter of the word 'emu'.

Oh, aren't we though? I can't stand the whole "Ozzie" thing. Mate, it's "Aussie". *shakes head* And Emu ahahahahahahahahahahahahahah. It's actually embarrassing when someone, usually an American, says E-moo! HA!

Now, you all might think this is the dumbest thing in the whole world, but I like it. *is proud to be Australian*

I came from the dreamtime from the dusty red soil plains
I am the ancient heart, the keeper of the flame
I stood upon the rocky shore
I watched the tall ships come
For forty thousand years I'd been the first Australian.

I came upon the prison ship bowed down by iron chains.
I cleared the land, endured the lash and waited for the rains.
I'm a settler.
I'm a farmer's wife on a dry and barren run
A convict then a free man I became Australian.

I'm the daughter of a digger who sought the mother lode
The girl became a woman on the long and dusty road
I'm a child of the depression
I saw the good times come
I'm a bushy, I'm a battler
I am Australian

We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian
I am, you are, we are Australian.

I'm a teller of stories
I'm a singer of songs
I am Albert Namatjira
I paint the ghostly gums
I am Clancy on his horse
I'm Ned Kelly on the run
I'm the one who waltzed Matilda
I am Australian

I'm the hot wind from the desert
I'm the black soil of the plains
I'm the mountains and the valleys
I'm the drought and flooding rains
I am the rock, I am the sky
The rivers when they run
The spirit of this great land
I am Australian

We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian
I am, you are, we are Australian.

HAHAH! Hell yes. I don't think we're as uptight as some other nations. Hmmm, if Justin Timberlake has flashed Janet Jackson's boobies at the AFL or NRL grand finals I think most Aussies would have laughed their asses off and that would have been the end of it.

Australia's a great country. :D I love and am very proud to be an Australian. Yeahh..Go Australia!

Down Under

Traveling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said,

"Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
And he said,

"I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Lying in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"
And he said,

"Oh! Do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

jadeakira

Totally the taste buds me thinks.

Why?

Cos we're happy lil vegemites, as bright as bright can be.
We all enjoy our vegemite for breakfast, lunch and tea.
Our mummies say we're growing stronger every single week.
Because we love our vegemite.
We all enjoy our vegemite.
It puts the rose in every cheek.

*bows, thank-you, thank-you*

Its okay. My twin sister (identical) hates the stuff too. Funny, how we can share the same features, same music, same movies, but we appear to have unidentical tastebuds.

I admit I can only eat it very very lightly spread and has to be in combination with a liberal dose of butter. I can never understand the people who have Vegemite with a side of bread.

So for the charge of unAustralianess by refusing to eat the holy-est of holy foods, I sentence you to be pelted with olives and your debt to society will be paid ;)

Okay that I can agree with.Vegemite without butter or margarine is kinda boring.

Olives aren't that bad but being pelted with them would hurt.

Why I Love Australian English by HearMeScreamin'

I love the way we have the amazing ability to turn one vowel into three when speaking.

I love the way we shorten words down as far as they can go (mozzie, pressie, chrissie, postie, choccy, barbie (BBQ not plastic), agro (agressive, not the puppet), alco and arvo)
Eg. "I had a hissie at the hossie" = I had a histerectomy at the hospital

I love the way we have the unique ability to nickname anyone.
(Darran - Dazza, Michael - Mick, Barry - Bazza, Anyone with red hair - Bluey, Sharon - Shazza, then you have your Boof's, shorty's (tall people), Curly's (people with straight hair), Davo's, Smithy's, etc.

In conclusion, the Australian variety of English is FUN :)

Alright i'm also a complete dr0k.

I love vegemite... in any amounts

I love to sing "I am, You are, We Are Australian" or any Australian song, especially on Australia Day.

I also love that we spend the entire Australia Day making our way down to the fireworks, then sit there 4 hours drinking alcohol, watch 10 minutes of fireworks... then pack it all up and make our way home. (Thats what happens here anyway) :p

I am so fuckin proud at Olympics and any sporting event when our flag is raised and the National Anthem is played and you can hear the Aussies singing loud and clear in the crowd :D

*points to Why I Love Australian English by HearMeScreamin' post*
I couldn't have summed it up any better myself

and there's nothing i love better than watching a great game of AFL :D

*****

What ChaosBererich said is true though, it's natural to think our state is the 'better' one, but if someone said a part of Iraq was a 'better' part... I wouldn't move an inch. It's Australia as a whole that makes each place a desirable place to live... so fuck yea go Australia!!! :D

Oh yeah, and i love our acceptance of slang... it's 'Fuckin Ay'!!!
The way it can be used in such a friendly way...
eg. "come here ya fucker" = "I haven't seen you in ages!!!"

Tee hee, gotta love this thread. It's Mike! yay!
Gawd beetroot is DA BOMB! My Grandparents grew beetroot in their backyard and when they'd come and visit they'd bring it and i'd make triple decker beetroot sandwiches. Vegemite is yucky, Promite is waaayy better, even though it isn't Australian.Tim Tams!!!mmmmm.lol thongs. When Aussie's go overseas, it's best to refer to thongs as 'flip flops' because people might get the wrong idea. Why do people always assume that we are 'laid back'? What exactly does that mean? MILO!!!! I love Milo. It's way better than that Nesquick stuff. We can't miss out the awesome Aussie bands can we? TBE,MM9, KH, LE, Jet, TM, etc etc. I rekon EV should just come live here, I mean they've basically lived their entire lives in the US and well Aus, it just sooooo much better. Going (down) Under should definately be our national Anthem. I don't like many of our national songs but I can be heard singing 'I still call Australia home' on the odd occasion. We can't pelt Lir with Olives because they are native to Greece and Rome. We have to use something Aussie, like.....VEGEMITE or TIM TAMS. Melbourne the most livable city in Australia? ppfftt. Does anyone find it weird that margarine can make you blind? lol Aussie slang. Is Lir really banned or has he just put that in his display name to make himself popular?

\m/ go the THONGS!!!!!
you get strange look in other places when you say "i'm just going to slip some thongs on my feet" hehehe :D
Thongs rule! That's all I wear on my feet. People say I look like a bogan, always wearing thongs wherever I go, but as if I care....they rule.

Backyard cricket is like, a MUST!
Ah yes, I used to love playing that...I especially loved nearly twonking my brother in the head with our substitute cricket ball :D

what if i go there... do i count as a goaty enough landmark :D

but none the less i do love our landmarks.... we have a diverse range of them, from buildings and structures like The Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge... and then we have very cultural things such as Uluru.
Even if there may not be as many as other countries, they're pretty neat none the less. I think that Australia on a whole is a landmark worth seeing :)

Hehehe Goats!!! Emma's specialty. I like sheep better than goats. Sheep are nicer to hug and are easier to catch. If you try to hug a goat they'll spear you with their horns so sheep are nicer to hug, plus they're fluffier. Uluroo or however you spell it reminds me of a huge red jelly. Isn't the Barrier Reef an Aussie Landmark too? Is goat milk nicer than cow milk? WE AUSSIE'S RULE THE IRC!!BOOYAH!!!FEEL THE LOVE!!I'M FEELING THE LOVE!!ARE YOU FEELING THE LOVE?

TO me there is only one good thing in Melbourne ;)

Melb would be way better if it wasn't so cold coz from last weekend I have peeling hands now

hehe... melbs the best city. i never wanna move (unless i go overseas)
their now showing ads about us being voted the most liveable city in the world (thats right... melb is number one! cop that! :P)
about bloody time too.. hehe, i knew about the number one city thing at the beginning of the year!
the one thing that i hate about melb is that they never show melb storm on tv... even when their interstate!! and if they do... its delayed at like midnight grrr... bloody channel nine and fox sports :P

TheTool, have a look at this post (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=16962 ). (under the sections: How can I get my own signature? Why are my posts not showing up right away?

I love all of Australia.. but I love some of the places near where I live. Burleigh Hill, Outer Mudgerebaa(fuck how do you spell that suburb) & Panorama have the best fucking views I've ever seen in my life, day & night.

Though I'm not a big fan of Surfers Paradise, there is always a diverse group of people there (though it seems more people belong to the 'wanker arrogent drunk guy' then anything else).

I love the pubs... it doesn't matter what part of Aus I'm in to love a pub. 9/10 there is live music, and most of the time it is pretty decent. Plus if you bump someone's drink, when you buy them another they are your best friend for life. Oh, and it's great fun trying to find your way out the back of some of them to take a piss in a drunken state. Yep.. I love the pubs.

And the greatest thing in all of the wide and diverse continent of Australia... Humble Pie Co. (http://www.miettas.com/Australia/New_South_Wales/Billinudgel/Humble_Pie_Co.html)'s Steak, Bacon & Cheese pie & a bottle of your favourite beer.

Sweeeeeet fuckin' heaven :p/

Of course I'll be cheering the Aussies on in Athens, but only if another country adopts, Ian Thorpe.

1. I'd like to see just how fast he swims WITHOUT the big black human condom.

2. There is a very fine line between Metrosexual and Homosexual, and I think he's walking that line. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, but make up your mind already!!!)

3. Recent photos of him in airports. I'm sorry to tell you, Mr Thorpedo, but no, you are not a Rock Star, please remove your Bono glasses... now.

I sure hope so, b/c i love the swimming events

oh how i loved the Sydney Olympics... no matter what, you were never far from an Australian Anthem, Waltzing Matilda being sung, or an Aussie chant going round a stadium :D

I've been to cities that never close down
From New York to Rio and old London town
But no matter how far
Or how wide I roam
I still call Australia home.

I'm always travelin'
And I love bein' free
So I keep leavin' the sun and the sea
But my heart lies waiting over the foam
I still call Australia home.

All the sons and daughters spinning 'round the world
Away from their families and friends
Ah, but as the world gets older and colder
It's good to know where your journey ends.

And someday we'll all be together once more
When all the ships come back to the shore
Then I realize something I've always known
I still call Australia home.

No matter how far
Or how wide I roam
I still call Australia home.

I watched some of the diving last night, and I didn't catch much of Newbery, but I know Tourky was doing brilliantly. I can't wait to see how they finish. I imagine they'll do beautifully if they keep it up. I hope so, at least!

The womens team won gold and broke the World Record last night,
but the fucktards didn't choose Thorpe to race in the heat for the mens 4X100m Medley.... so they didn't make the final :(

That is so true... and that is why i am so dissapointed with our 8 Women rowing team that were involved in that event... seriously, what they did to their team mate was mean and uncalled for, and definitely not part of the Aussie spirit.

The dissapointment itself in letting the team down would be enough to hurt for a lifetime, but them throwing disgusting remarks and threatening to tip her off the boat was just wrong. She was basically paralyzed... and the fact that would result in her drowning. Even if they didn't go through with the threat, it's still a disgusting thing to say.
I know they had a right to be dissapointed and even annoyed, but they certainly didn't go about it the right way.

ok didn't mean to put a damper on the whole Aussie Pride, but that just irked me so much

sooooooo how good was that diving medals... Gold and Bronze :D
and its good to see Jane Saville get Bronze after the dissapointment inn Sydney :)

It was uncalled for but I can understand their frustration at the time. As much as it's not the 'Aussie Spirit' to bag your mates, at the same time it's not the 'Aussie Spirit' to give in when the going gets tough. *shrugs*

I feel for her, I do. But I'd like to know why she was even on the team if you couldn't handle it.

Now, I have to post this because I think it's funny and oh so Australian....

In these troubled times, the Olympic Games loom as a healing balm.
At a time when the world is starving for the bread of hope, the bakery is being manned yet again by those pastry cooks of peace, Roy Slaven and H.G. Nelson.

For two weeks this August, Australians can yet again live The Dream.
The Dream redefined Olympics coverage in Sydney (described by His Excellency Juan Antonio Samaranch as "the best Olympic Games ever"). Now, Roy Slaven and
H.G. Nelson have taken up the call to assemble with the world's youth in Athens (described by Slaven as "arguably Greece's most modern city").

"In 1974, I was quoted as saying that Athens is rapidly becoming a toilet looking for a flush button," says Slaven. "How wrong I was."

H.G. Nelson agrees. "I have been a big wrap for the Olympics in Athens for many, many years now," he says. "It is a dream come true to be packing down with Seven's coverage of the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad this August. After all, many believe the Athens Games in 1896 were the best ever, and I am over the moon knowing that The Dream will be there when the big show returns to home base this year."

Broadcast live from The Sparta Club each day, The Dream in Athens will once again see Roy and H.G. interviewing athletes hot off the medal dais and unpicking the rich tapestry of the Olympic movement. As a bonus this time, their location and timezone means they can tackle the big sports as they happen live across the Olympic city, and solve the mysteries of an ancient land and its contribution to civilisation.

"While I love the old stuff - the plays, the philosophies, the concept of democracy etc, it's the new Greece that will astound people," says Roy Slaven. "Greece is a modern miracle and it's this miracle that The Dream will focus on."

H.G. Nelson adds: "As Brad Pitt said to me in a break in the filming of Troy,
'H.G., the Greeks are cool rocking dudes. From what I have seen so far, they know how to love, how to fight, and they are not afraid to party.' Coming from someone as switched on to the international scene as Brad is, that meant a lot to me.

"In homage to the original Games ethos, Roy and I will be performing in the nude with a nude audience, and given the estimated temperature of the city in August, this may be entirely appropriate."

The Dream in Athens will screen for one hour nightly at 11pm*, from Saturday, 14th August through to Sunday, 29th August.

I find it a little odd that a similar thing happened to one of the Canadian rowers in the men's eight final and no-one has mentioned it. The Canadian men were the gold medal favourites and ended up in fifth position. No public mud slinging happened between the Canadian rowers after that. I personally don't think it is something one has control over, so the 'giving up' thing erks me. Yes, she froze up in a race two years ago, but don't forget that some of her teammates had implored Robbins to start rowing again when she wanted to quit as a result of that event.

It's just sad to see all the public mud throwing. :(

Well that might be true but we're Australians, it's the Australian media, we don't know what goes on with althletes from other countries. And you talk about public mud throwing, most of that has been brought about or made worse by the media.
