I can not stand the show, but, like a lot of "reality TV" I still watch it. The auditions are the best part, and being able to laugh my self stupid at some of the dumbasses, that is priceless. The amount of people that go to the auditions that really do need to sit down and really listen to themselves sing is just phenomonal. Man I had a good laugh. But form what I've seen at the auditions and on TV, the judges have picked the best of the best. This year's Idol will definitely be a lot harder than last year's.

The girl who sung the Ella Fitzgerald song, has she got one hell of a voice, and she can scat as well. I also thought the Chanel chick was good, but the Australian Idol is going to be Garth Ploog, the guy who got up and said "Now there's a rumour going around that I'm a dickhead.." before he started singing. It was obvious. He's got the attitude, the looks, the talent and he's young.

:) Very impressed by the contestants on last nights show!....only 3 to go through makes it tough,but I'm voting for Ngaiire ;) ....she's a standout (and has the most gorgeous smile).Of the others,Chanel may miss out with her choice of song(but she will get in with the judges wildcard later on,if she does missout)....god its hard to pick!,probaly the last one(blond who sang Angel) and Ben(can't sing for nuts,but has the looks and personality...which means a lot in this game!)

How good were the performances last night? One of the first times i've watched it through, but it was soooooo much better than last years. If I actually voted (which I don't 'cause I'm too poor) my votes would go to:

1. Ngaiire (I think I spelt that wrong) cause she is very expressive with her voice.
2. Chanel because she sang "Glory Box" by Portishead and she's different.
3. Courtney because he has a distinctive style and if he goes through it would give the competition more credibility as he is not the typical "Idol" type.

That girl who sung My Immortal should have picked a song better suited to her voice. For one, she didn't (or doesn't) sing the entire words, she seems to just drop off the rest of the word when she feels like it. Argh, I can't stand it when people do that. I like where she went with it though, like trying to make it her own, but she didn't do the song any justice.
There was however a girl that had a child that was at the Sydney auditions that got up on the stage to volunteer to sing for a brief period while we were waiting to have our numbers called and she did a great version of My Immortal, but I don't think she got through or I haven't seen her at least.

The genral concept of Idol and exploiting, manfacturing stars and pre-writing songs for them goes against everything I believe music should be. But I have been watching it and there are some great singers that I think are going on Australian Idol 2 for the right reasons. Watching Casey last night was totally amazing, she's brilliant and I hope for the sake of our music business and Idol that she wins.

Angie has the most talent of the last 12!..Unfortunatly it now IS a popularity contest :rolleyes: which means either Marty or Anthony will win.All of the final 12 have good voices and talent,but it comes down to who can make the most money for the record company sponsoring Aust Idol,and that means someone with resonable voice, good looks and huge marketing potential!...when real talent comes along like Angie,it just gets thrown out the window..pfffft!

I think you'll find that "Higher" by Creed is a pop song. It made the charts, it was in the top 40, and more than half of the country would have been exposed to it again and again and again.

P.S. I agreed with Dicko. Plus Dan's performance was shite and he deserved to go, just as Marty deserves to go tonight.

I think it's excellent that she's not just following the bandwagon and relying on her ability to copy what other vocalists have previously done. If they all just do that, which a vast majority of them do, then Idol will live up to it's title of being a televised kareoke contest.

nonononono! she shouldnt do a straight song, the reason people like her is because she is different, and its so interesting to hear how she is going to interpret and perform the songs she does. if you want to hear it done straight, listen to the original. the point of the Idol contests shouldnt be to find parrots, but someone who is unique. we dont want to buy CD's of people who all sound identical...

it is nice that Chanel is different, and quite frankly i felt sorry for her on Sunday night, when the judges just wouldn't stop, namely Marcia really.
But she is a great entertainer and hopefully will continue to be so come next weeks peformance.

Yeah,I thought Marty should have gone...must be close to going though,in the bottom 3 every week!Emelia's choice of song was no good,her outfit dreadful,and she should sack her hairdresser :rolleyes: ....aged her 10 years :rolleyes: having said that,it was about the right time for her to depart.She works hard but doesn't possess the outright talent that the others have.I really liked Emelia.
I think the judges have been too soft in this series,and have been told to dish it out...create some controversary :) but I don't know what else Anthony can do,he's a good looker(and that's where he gets his votes),not the best singer!If that's the best he can do,let the voters decide!

How good was Anthonys performance? I was a little hesitant when I heard he was singing "The Prayer", just because its supposed to be a duet recorded by two of the greatest vocalists of the age (regardless what you think of Celene Dions songs). But that was nothing short of spectacular. I love it when people shatter my expectations :D

I think that Dan and Marty really need to go this week and the next. Both are way out of their depth at this stage in the competition. At this stage, I don't really care which one of the other 6 win. They have all proven themselves to me.

You get rep points for that!! Dicko is the only one I'd really listen to if I were in the competition because he's the one who's going to market you once you've won Idol. He knows what the public want and what they will buy. Mark and Marica do have valid points sometimes, but they are speaking from a artists point of view.

Oh i love australian Idol, only because i just love any music shows... he he ...well i wasn't a fan of popstars, so I'm so glad that shows well and way over. My favourites in aus Idol are Chanel Cole and Casey Donovan. I'm absolutely in love with those two. Chanel absolutely blew me away when she sang constant craving. I was so blown away by it, i downloaded it the next day *giggles* ... wow,, anthony did good...lol...can't wait till this sunday, though im not a fan of the beatles, so this shall be interesting.... *walks away scratching head*

Don't get me wrong, I love the Beatles too death, but as if these guys were going to know a lot of Beatles songs and then be able to perform them properly.

The Beatles and their music is important to a lot of people. Mark, Marica and Dicko would have grown up listen to them, but to expect a group of people all born after 1976 to sing those sings well... that's just dumb.

So, let's just keep the shows to genres or eras, not bands and artists.

All I can say, is how good this years Idol has been. No matter who wins, they are both great singers and deserve to be there at the Opera House next week. So I'm happy either way, it's just going to make the performance that much better.

As many people think Dicko is a dickhead... I'm going to be really sad that he's not going to be with channel 10 anymore. To me Marcia is the mother figure and sort of doesn't get critical enough... and Mark, idk what the crap he's on bout half the time. Dicko's comments on most occassions, I agree with, or at least see where he's coming from. It'll be weird not having him there next time.

I don't like Casey's singing style...she just doesn't work for me,BUT I will say she is very talented,(especially for a 16yr old)and if she can pull of 'Hello'without stuffing up,I'll be first to applaud her!
I not a big fan of Anthony either.His effort of 'The Prayer',convinced me he is a real vocal talent.Up till then I thought he was just a pretty face.I also recon he would be better off singing classical,rather then pop stuff,which doesn't really suit him.
Anyway,both will be rewarded with contact deals,whichever way it goes. I tend to think Anthony will win...his fans got quite a shock last week(when he had to suffer waiting the result)and I think they won't be complacent again!

:) I thought Casey's rendition of 'Hello' was ok.It IS a very hard song to sing,makes you just realize just how great Amy is ;) ....she won't lose any votes over it.But Casey stuffed up the 'single' release,forgetting the words again! :rolleyes: This is the 3rd or 4th time she has done that,and in a vocalist competion of this standard it is unforgivable! Why did she pick Hello? I thought her performance for that song was one of her worst ones. She, did a fairly good job with it, but it wasn't up to her standard. Personally, I thought there were far better Ev songs that she would have nailed on the night. Everybody's Fool would have been perfect for her.

Even though she stuffed up the words in the godawful Aussie Idol song, I think she sang it far better than Anthony did.

I agree, that song is bad, first time I heard it I thought it was from the Lion King. I might buy Casey's second album, when she gets to write it herself.
