David Hodges sings backup and plays piano in this song. Will Boyd plays bass on the song. It is his second appearance on an Evanescence record without being a full time member (the first was Solitude).

Away From Me
I hold my breath as this life starts to take its toll
I hide behind a smile as this perfect plan unfolds
But oh, God, I feel I've been lied to
Lost all faith in the things I have achieved
And I
[CHORUS:]
I've woken now to find myself
In the shadows of all I have created
I'm longing to be lost in you
(away from this place I have made)
Won't you take me away from me
Crawling through this world as disease flows through my veins
I look into myself, but my own heart has been changed
I can't go on like this
I loathe all I've become
[Chorus]
Lost in a dying world I reach for something more
I have grown so weary of this lie I live
[Chorus]

Did David Hodges do some back up vocals for this song? i've heard him on couple of others and i wasn't sure cuz it's kinda faint in this one.

Yes he did, but his vocals aren't really focused on. They're more like harmonies in the background, but they do make the song sound complete.:)

This song is amazing. It's one of my favourites, certainly from 'Origin' anyway. I just feel like a lot of us can relate to this song, and its pain. I just feel like I know so much what Amy is singing about...thinking you can make it right, trying so hard to do this thing, be noble, be good, make yourself happy...and then getting a shock when one day you realise, despite all the good things you've done, it doesn't mean a thing. You feel trapped in a nightmare, and you can't believe you didn't realise sooner...and you have no idea how to get out.
'I'm lost in shadows of my own...'

I love this song. David Hodge's backup vocals really give the song quite a bit of personality. The lyrics are amazing too.

Alrighty, I have a question. In the last chorus, I could swear Amy sings "to f*ck myself" instead of "to find myself" but it's not ever listed on lyric things, and if this was the actual lyrics it would be the only Ev song (except for covers) to have a curse in it, so... but it could also just be something I'm hearing because the vocals are very layered in this part and David is singing "I look to you" or something like that in the background. Does anyone know or am I just crazy?

It's not Fuck.
It wouldn't make sense.

That's why I was confused... it didn't seem to make any sense at all, but that's seriously what it sounds like... oh well, I feel pretty stupid now...

No. The reason why it seems like Amy says "F*ck" is because she is singing "I have woken now to find myself.." and David is sining "I got woken now."
This is what David sings in the background of Amy.
Amy: I’ve woken now to find myself
David: I’m woken now
Amy: I’m longing to be lost in you
David: I’m lost in you
Amy: I’ve woken now to find myself
David: I'm woken now
Amy: I’m longing to be lost in you
David: And I'm lost in you
Amy: I have woken now to find myself
David: I got woken now
Amy: I’m longing to be lost in you
David: And I'm lost in you

David did do background vocals, but not back-up vocals. And the words are supposed to be faint.

That's in "Even In Death." It's "People die, but real love, is forever." It's from "The Crow."

thats true. "I will die but real love lives for ever" is the line of the song from "Even In Death". Which is a kick @ss song by the way.
This is my favorite song on "Origin". I first heard it when I figured out you could search for music on WindowsMediaPlayer. I love this song. The lyrics are amzaingly powerful (Like all of Ev'ssongs! :p ) I love this line the most "crawling through this world, as disease flows through my viens,I look into myself ,but my own heart has been changed". Great part....

People sometimes create some problems themselves. But often it is necessary...

The piano inspires confidence. (Wow, that sounded lame.) If Origin was their first, instead of Fallen, then this would be the perfect single. I always feel more "alive" after listening to it.

You know... I have to say, I still don't get how some people have heard this in the lyrics. She not only doesn't say it, but I was super confused when I started reading this thread and I saw a couple people thought they heard "fuck" instead of "find"... You guys are weird.

No, it's "People die, but real love is forever." Anyway, this isn't the thread to be talking about this song in anyway.
I like this song. Especially the beginning part with the cresendoing and decresendoing static-ified drip/drop noise. lol.
I also especially like the low register part in "Crawling through this world..."

Ha! There's a trick I know about this song if you play it on an iPod or MP3! You can listen to the separate voice parts in the second verse. What you do is when you listen to the second verse, you take the right ear phone out and you can hear the high part alone. If you take out the left ear phone you'll hear the low part alone. Pretty cool, huh? Heh, I have WAY too much time on my hands

"Dis-ease" isn't a word. It would be unease.
