Shut up

It tells us exactly what the Black Eyed Peas should do.

Where is the Love
Was a good song but I hated it, way overplayed.

I'm trying to figure out what the heck the point of this is.

Are we picking the song we like more of the two, or the song that sucks the most, or what?

Brian
01-01-2004, 03:36 PM
Preferably neither.

However, if forced to choose one I'd choose "Shut Up" because radio listeners haven't been bludgeoned with it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and ................... over like we were here with "Where Is The Love?".

Never heard of the song. Either it ain't gotten airplay here yet or I just haven't heard it lately.

Today anyways, and yesterday, they've been playing New Year's stuff. Like 102 Jamz is playing the top 102 songs of the past decade.

I don't see how Missy Elliot feat. 50 Cent's..."Work It?" (don't remember which song) beat 2Pac's Hail Mary by one number. 34 or something was 2Pac, Missy/50 was 33 :? and that song even beat Big Pun's Still Not a Playa or whatever by a long shot...

Anything featuring Justin Timberlake is an automatic loss.

Even though I feel that Where is the Love is a good song, I feel the Black Eyed Peas added Timberlake to keep the song from doing bad on the charts. Had they not done that, I'd have respected the BEP more.

Anyhow, I'd pick Shut Up. And the Black Eyed Peas aren't small anymore.

There's a reason we have the indie/small forum. To promote smaller bands who otherwise wouldn't get much of a chance to be heard. The Black Eyed Peas and Good Charlotte from a previous post you've made are both established. They should go in the off-topic forum if anything. Thank you please drive through. Oh and by the way, I wonder what Amy thinks of this album. She mentioned she listened to Elephunk in an interview.

I like the mix of boy rap with girl singing. In "Where is the Love" the girl only had a small part since JT ( :? ) was singing the chorus
but in "Shut Up" she sang lots.

This post was really quite pointless

How was Justin Timberlake featured in "Where is the Love"? Dud he sing in it or something?

Cfw828
01-02-2004, 12:14 PM
He sang backup. He's the guy that sings the chorus.

The Black Eyed Peas kept it "secret" for a while because he didn't get any credit. They obviously found out who it was and the song exploded.

The Black Eyed Peas have filmed a video for their song "The Apl Song". However I can't find it anywhere in Windows Media Player!!! The only sites that have it are in Quicktime formats. Can anyone help me out and give me the link!!!

By the way, some of u might be confused thinking - I thought the BEP new single was "Let's Get It Started" - well you're right. However they have filmed a video for "The Apl Song" to help promote peace!! I doubt "The Apl Song" will have a single release, but I do think it was great idea for the Peas to do this!!

I like Black Eyed Peas, they're one of the few rap groups I think are good. I like how they have both guys and girls. I still like "Where is the Love" - I didn't hear it THAT much on the radio. I only remember the chorus/main part of "Shut Up," so I can't say. And I love "Let's Get Retarded" but they changed it to "Let's Get Started" for the radio. I like the "And the base keeps runnin' runnin'..." :D

The BEP are about the only hip-hop I can stand. I like them so much better now that they've added Fergie into the band. The female vocals real help. Plus they all can dance, real good.

I like 'Let's get retarded' way better than 'Let's get it started'

Their next album "Monkey Business" is scheduled to come out November 16th.
During a studio session last week, the Black Eyed Peas lit numerous candles throughout the studio to set a mood while recording tracks for their next album, "Monkey Business." Instead, they nearly set the entire building ablaze as the candles ignited a fire in the studio and caused an estimated $500,000 in damages. The group was able to escape unharmed and managed to grab their recordings and several charred instruments on their way out of the building. Their quick reaction to the fire did, however, reportedly save the building as only about 20% or less of the entire structure sustained damage....
That news is from last week but I forgot there was a Black Eyed Peas topic even and posted in another one.

Anyways, their music reminds me of Wylde Bunch who I find to be better in a different way. But I listened to their album online, it was ok...wouldn't buy it tho. Where Is The Love was a nice song but it got overplayed way too much. At that point in time I listened to the radio daily on the way to class and back the most so yeah.

I chose Where Is The Love because I like the refrain and the lyrics are good.
Anyway, it has been playd too much on the radio. I have become tired of it.

Shut Up has is a little annoying. My first boyfriend said that it reminds him of our time together. Well, that wasn't very flattering... I'm glad he's been saying that about some better and more peaceful songs too and is a friend to me now.

they have released four singles out of their newest album:

Where is the Love
Shut Up
Hey Mama
Let's get it Started(retarded)

they have other singles from other albums but i havent heard them and no one pays attention to those.

and also, justin timberlake sings the chorus w/ fergie. i never knew it was him until someone told me. its hard to tell but its him. in the CD booklet, it says justin timberlake sings that as well as papa roach in Anxiety

I hate BEP, I try and blank them out, but a friend of mine was obesessed with the lead women and kept bringing them up. Getting Justin to sing in the song instantly destroyed all hope of me liking the song.

So basicly....... shut up....... or should that be STFU Black Eyed Peas.

Where Is The Love is one of the more cheesy political song, pretentiously sold as the gospel for anti-war sentiment. I find it interesting that in this song, they underscore their Christianity by singing "Father, Father, Father, Father", when tracks later, they find it entertaining to make light of the mentally handicapped which seems to be a highly-enjoyed activity in this society. Also, I don't want a so-called political song about the government when this group shows up in The Sims 2 or a Best Buy commercial or an ad for a fucking cellular phone. They obviously don't understand the corporate underpinings that drive many of our conflicts...either that, or they know how to con the public with their catchy yet crappy songs. Hey, here's an idea. Give to Africa instead of spending 100k on an horrible-looking outfit you're going to wear once. Then come to me about greed and caring about others. I hate this group. I don't have to explain why because even those who like the band know why they suck.

If you want to hear some of Stacy "Fergie" Fergusons work, check out .Wild Orchid (http://www.wild-orchid.net/). She was part of this band up until the last album. I have all of the cd's. The last one is signed by the other two singers. Renee' Sands and Stephanie Ridel. They never made it big or really well known. But you can see the difference in style with Stacy. I think with her solo album, it will be similar to the solo one Gwen Steffani put out. In terms of No Doubt to solo. THere is a different sound from the band to the solo effort

I'm kind of hoping that the solo album will be more soul. I LOVE her vocals on Don't Lie... She has such an amazing voice. I love "My Humps". It's a dirty song but in a cute way, nothing too bad about it.

And I do agree about BEP holding Fergie back, her voice is always different (Compare all three singles, her voice is changed in each one) and I know for a fact "Don't Lie" is what her real voice is like.

But the good thing about this is that she is making a solo album. Hooray for that!

I both love and loathe My Humps.

The lyrics are the stupidest, most retarded, hi-im-a-homie-doing-a-soft-porn-whore-video-for-money, regurgitation of ebonics-for-morons (an oxymoron).

But its so catchy.

And lumps? I think of cancer when I think of "lumps". And humps? Wow. This band needs to die. Unless they make another homie-ville catchy song.

I love homie music. And I think the BEP are the homiest.

I both love and loathe My Humps.

The lyrics are the stupidest, most retarded, hi-im-a-homie-doing-a-soft-porn-whore-video-for-money, regurgitation of ebonics-for-morons (an oxymoron).

But its so catchy.

Course not!... is a very nice band!... just listening the Fergie has a nice voice!

If you like Stacy's voice, you should check out the group Wild Orchid (http://wildorchid.8m.com/main.html). This is the group that "Fergie" was in before she left for the BEP.

The BEP isn't my favorite band in the world, but their song 'my humps' is like, really cool...XD Me and my friend coty are totally obsessed with it; we do mad dancing, and it drives his mom nuts...XD :D
They have a couple other songs i enjoy listening too, but, personally, i wouldnt buy their CDs just for those 2-3 songs..lol :)

Fergie's her nickname...her real name is Stacy Ferguson.

When I first heard of My Humps I literally thought of people humping each other...yeah, I know, I have perverted thoughts

Now I kind of have a spontaneous liking for this song :p It's one of the dumbest songs ever made, but it's catchy :D

Yeah seriously ajchz. She's a few months younger than I am, and he was in the television show Kids INC. Starting around 1983 or so. This show was on when I was a child. I used to watch it every day after school.

There are some similarities. Get rid of the tight poney tails or braids and the facial piercings. and more of her "younger" features show up.

especially if I've had a little to drink ^^;
everyone is like
'WTF? Why are you dancing? you don't even like this song!'
Me: 'Nuuu but its too damn catchy!!!'

Ever since Black Eyed Peas won that one category that Evanescence was in at the Billboard Music Awards, I haven't liked them one bit.

That one song though, My Humps, is a good song, and I go crazy at dance parties when that song comes on.

The thing that puzzles me though- I thought Black Eyed Peas was a group that wanted to create music that wasn't voluminous or contained violence. That song, My Humps, definitely has some sexual content in it. So what's the deal? Sounds like hypocrisy to me.

They aren't breaking up. They're going their own ways after "Monkey Business" and most likely will be back later with another group album.
