Assuming the same amazing transformation they did with the "Lord of the Rings" series, what other favorite books do you think would make really great movies?
"The Vampire Lestat"
Volume I of the "Dragonlance Chronicles"
"The Blood on My Hands (http://members.aol.com/Frugalmuse/victarMKfanfics/blood01.htm)" - okay, so this one's not a book; it's a Mortal Kombat character fan fiction, but it's still one of the coolest things I've ever read!

I would love to see both The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and The Recluce Saga by Modesitt made into movies. Both are kinda lengthy (like 10+ books apiece at 600+ pages per book), but it'd rock :).
Also, it might be neat to see a movie for Also Sprach Zarathustra, but I think it might be better as a book.
Ooh, ooh. The Eternal Champion series by Michael Moorcock would be fucking awesome. You gotta love Elric.

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes.
Any of her books, nuff said.
Though Hawksong is one of the best books ever written, it will be hard for them to make it a movie without making it look cheesy. Its one of those books where its a lot better in your head than in the hands of a director.
Though people transforming into snakes & hawks is amazingly incredible to think of, when you think about how they would make it look in Hollywood - it would turn out to look like the Animorphs most likely. I don't wanna see that book ruined like that. Hopefully if it does get out, there's a phenomenal director out there that could make an amazing movie out of it.

Agreed. That's true of a lot of good books, and I bet some not-so-good books could be turned into fairly decent movies, though I can't think of any off hand.

He's one of my favorite characters too. In all honesty, of the three series I listed, Elric would be the easiest one to do. At least in that, there's not all sorts of stuff that some people can see and others can't and getting confused and stuff (in both Jordan's and Modesitt's work, both of which I highly recommend, commonfolk can't see magical weaves, for instance, and other such things).

I'm with whoever said Vampire Lestat. IMHO, the best of the Anne Rice vampire books.
But, I'm more of a science fiction buff. I'd like to see:
The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester

Just about anything by Brad Meltzer(which is easy cause I know of only 4 novels of his).
Also any of the Jinx graphic novels by Brian Michael Bendis. Especially Gold Fish. Hmm..Torso would be awesome to be made into a movie. Although there has already been that sorta already I think. Or maybe it was a book I'm thinking of. Basically Torso was a graphic novel written by Brian Michael Bendis on the true events of America's first serial killer. It was never officially solved. I believe there was already a movie made about it, but not based on Bendis' graphic novels, which could own the other movie.
I would say I would like to see Y: The Last Man made into a movie, but I think it would be better as a television series, cause it doesn't really have an ending, not right now at least. It would be very similiar to The Fugitive in the way that it keeps going. It basically is about some kind of plague or something that happens and all the male creatures of the world die, with the exception of one guy and his pet monkey, both of which are male. That means all male creature, cows, sheep, dogs, humans, everything. Then it shows how society is run by women, but there is the initial chaos with the planes crashing that were being flown by guys. Submarine disasters, energy problems with the guys running power plants dying, all that. Then it shows how the women take control of their countries, but yet the life of the one guy is in trouble cause of the wacko girls that believe that the men died due to being evil and they want to kill this last guy, when there are others that believe him to be the last hope. Very good read. Every issue leaves you hating the fact that you have to wait for the next.

I know a lot of people hate them, but I think it would be really cool if they took the basic story and elements of Animorphs, maturized it a bit and made it into a film. I thought they were cool books and would love to see them done live (and right, not like that horrible TV show). When I say maturized, I mean something along the lines of the last ten or so books. Nice and dark and stuff.
I would love to see Robin Hobb's Farseer/Liveship series done. I can see The Farseer Trilogy done into a TV miniseries and then the Liveship Traders done for the big screen. I just think it'd be cool to see all the dragons and the serpents and the living seaships and stuff. *sigh*

No, it looks scary. I'm not watching it.
I'm rather upset that Chuck Palahnuick's Survivor got cancelled after 09.11.2001 The script was by Gwyneth Paltrow's brother, Kevin Spacey, Jim Carrey and some others were considering being in it, and Trent Reznor was going to score it. But no, we can't have a movie about a plane, that would be far too horrific...
How about a movie version of If Chins Could Kill: Confessions Of A B Movie Actory? Bruce Campbell's autobiography, starring...Bruce Campbell!

Ok, more? What about Rising Stars? I believe they are already in the works on making that one a movie. That will be easily one of the best movies of all time if they do it right. I really hope J. Michael Strazynski(spelling?) is on set to keep them on the right path, or that he is the one that writes the script(which I believe he is). Just about anything by him would probably kick ass. For those not in the know he is easily one of the best comic book writers out there currently. He is the current Amazing Spiderman writer. He was also the creator/writer of Babylon 5.
Hmm...what else? Lets see, also Midnight Nation, another one of his books that was a finite series(had a beggining, middle and end preplanned before it was launched).
Hmm...Lady Death would be good, if they did the first series or maybe 2nd. The first was easily the best.
Fathom would be great as a movie. Battle Chasers or Danger Girl(also the first series). Powers would be pretty good. ooh, ooh, yes, the one..dammit, forgetting the title and too lazy to go dig it up. I think it is Beautiful Killer...or is it Beautiful Assassin? Maybe I'm wrong. It is the one that was only 3 issues. The girl that had the real pale skin and whose parents were killed so she went out to get revenge on the people that were responsible. Her parents were former spies that had to keep her existence hidden. I believe that they already had a production company buy the rights and it is rumored that Ashley Judd is thinking about taking up the part.
A Ghost Rider movie would be awesome if done right as well. There are actually so many comics that would make great movies. Maybe one day I will have to come up with a list. There have been a lot that are in beginning stages(script writing and casting and director choosing..etc.)

While I have to agree with you on that it was a poor adaptation, I stil have to say that that movie kicked so much ass. For me, it was way more emotionally powerful than Schindler's List, or Saving Private Ryan, etc.

I would like to see a movie about Malcolm X that would begin from his childhood to...was it Chicago? Then Harlem, and the many other places he went to after that. I know there's autobiography movies out there, but I don't know if there's any actual movies. That would be too hard to do anyways...it would have to be at least a few hours long. Malcolm X has always been someone I've admired, along with Martin Luther King Jr., Assata Shakur, and others. I'd really like to see The Old Kingdom Series (I don't know if that's what they're called.. but I call them that. You know, Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen) by Garth Nix turned into a movie, but I think they would find some way to butcher it. Another Garth Nix book I'd like to see be turned into a movie is Shade's Children. It seems like it would have a good script.
Or The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King. That is one of the best books ever, or at least to me. But, like The Old Kingdom Series, I like the book to much, so if a movie came out I'd find too many things wrong with the movie. :(

Hell yes. I've recently become a fan of hers last summer because i'm a huge writer myself and when i found out that she got published when she was my age i had to read her stuff, and alas, vampires, what a coincidence that i just happen to love those! Not to mention she grew up right near my town and i know a few people who know her. But yeah, her books would make pretty cool movies, but something tells me when i try to picture them that they're better as books. *shrugs* I guess we'll never know for sure unless it happens.

And I also think 'Sabriel' by Garth Nix could make a very interesting movie (I still have to get round to reading the other 2 books in the trilogy. I do actually have them, just haven't had the time yet lol)
Also, a book I read ages ago called Artemis Fowl would be really good as a movie. (I think there was at least 3 of them...)

hmmmm definately vampire lestat but how bout some remakes--IE a good version of Farenheit 451, some Kurt Vonegut and also how bout Catcher in the Rye :) i can dream can't i? LOL

I agree that Sabriel would make a great movie. My brother doesn't think so, he says "It's more about the thoughts and feelings" which is true, but it could be adapted. Plus evanescence should do the soundtrack. Or am I the only one that thinks whisper was practically written for the book to be read to? :p

The only problem though is that they would probably turn Sabriel into such a kids movie. I can't see a talking cat being taken as a serious character in a movie... And since it would end up being aimed at kids, they wouldn't go too much into things like the importance of death or anything....

Mad About Maddie by Cheryl Ann Porter. That book is so. good. I even thought of a cast for it and everything. Also Thinner by Stephen King. Awesome, just awesome. I would LOVE that movie lol.

I think Lirael by Garth Nix would make a great movie. I havent actually read anything else written by Garth Nix (including Sabriel), but Lirael is such an awesomage book and I think modern day special effects would be able to bring the Stilkens and the Dead etc to life so well...4 months old thread hehe

Definitely Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series! Even though they're fairly new books (the first one in the series came out last year), Sarah Ash's Tears of Artamon series would be a great choice. Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. Hmm... I know there's more, I just can't think of them at the moment.

as soon as the series is finished id say fearless by francine pascal. i remember they were going to make it a tv show on the wb but they didnt stay true to the book at all and rachel leigh cook was going to play gaia.... although 35 or 37 books worth of material would be too much for 1 movie they could tone it down and cut stuff out or make it a two part or 2 part movie. but thats never going to happen

The Rhapsody series by Elizabeth Haydon...if you get rid of the part where this woman has an orgasm in the bathtub, it's an awesome series:D But Elizabeth Haydon is very poetic and artistic....It would be a great movie:)

I would love to see both The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and The Recluce Saga by Modesitt made into movies. Both are kinda lengthy (like 10+ books apiece at 600+ pages per book), but it'd rock :).
Oh, I love Robert Jordan. Except I'd be pissed when characters were missing and such.
Here's info on Ender's Game...still in preproduction.
Anywho...how 'bout some Heinlein? To Sail Beyond the Sunset would be nice...or the one I can't remember right now...about the old guy who gets a brain transplant into a younger body...argh!
Oh, now I remember. I Will Fear No Evil was the name of it.

Id like to see ''Myst: The Book of Atrus'', or its sequels turned into a movie. The Myst series is not very popular, save its computer game counterpart, but i think it would be an awsome movie...

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by... *goes to look at book* Steven Chbosky (haha i knew his name was cool). Anyone else read it? I would imagine it to be a sort of drama/comedy. Since it is sort of a series of diary entries, it would probably be narrated.

Well, for starters I'd like it if somebody did Ella Enchanted properly  Terry Pratchett's books would be awesome, or maybe it'd be better to make like this discworld tv series, focus on each of the books for maybe like three or four eps... Then Jane Austen's Sanditon (well, somebody else finished it but it was still good). Then better adaptations of Jurassic Park and Lost World, those books are actually pretty good, you'd just need to add some emotion in them. Danger Girl the comic book might make a kick ass movie too. Then there's this book, I think it's called Lives of the Monster Dogs or something, it was cool but it might be kinda hard to make...

OMG I would drop dead if Onslaught was ever made into a film! It was the first X-Men thing I read, it got me into it and made me completely fanatic :D It's just the coolest thing, still makes me cry like a little baby...

Here are the books that would make the best movies ever!!!!!!
Coraline by (uh.... I forgot. sorry)
His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman, but those movies are already in progress. New Line and Scholastic took on the project right after LotR was finished. It may be a while, but it's happening. Go to http://www.bridgetothestars.com and click on movie for more details.
And the best movie of all time? Midnighters, by Scott Westerfeld. OMFG, if you have ever read that book, you've gotta know what I mean!

for the ones who like terry goodkind's sword of truth series
I want the Gossip Girl book series to be made into movies. As long as Lindsay Lohan isn't in it (she was rumored to play Blair, which would have killed it) and they do appropriate casting, it could be really good.
(Book are almost always better than the movies, though.)

The Zodiac. It's a book written by a main investigator in the Zodiac murders years ago in California. Zodiac was a serial killer who sent letters in code to all the newspapers in the Bay area. He was never found. It's an awesome book.

David Icke's Children of the Matrix should totally be made into a movie someday. I bet it would be something like the 'V' television series of the 1980's which I've heard of but never seen.
Anyhow, the premise of it all is that reptilian aliens disguised as humans control affairs on planet Earth. (See my 'location' thingy...lol)

Haha wow, I was just opening this thread to post that too :D
It would make such an awesome movie.
And nice ideas about casting :)
I'd heard that there was a movie being planned but I have no idea what the status on that is
Another book I read recently that would be an awesome movie is Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Reilly.
It's very Indiana Jones, with a group of archaeologists solving riddles and uncovering the wonders of the ancient world. The descriptions of all the locations seem really incredible and the book actually has diagrams to show you how they'd look. It'd be pretty epic to see on screen :)

I'd also like to see the Artemis Fowl series made into movies. I think there is talk of it, but no confirmed plans.
And lastly, I'd like to see a modern Dracula. And Dracula 2000 doesn't count. I want a good one that is sophisticated and takes place when it was written.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.....yes, I know it's already a movie, but it was...how can I put this nicely?...painful to watch. Actually, there's no concievable way to make a better H2G2 movie because Douglas Adams is dead (bless his soul). Yes, life (and death) is totally unfair.

My favorite book of all time, "Twilight", by Stephenie Meyer, is now going to be made into a movie. I'm so excited. It's about a girl (Bella) who falls in love with a vampire and the vampire loves her back, but they both know it is very dangerous because the vampire (Edward Cullen *swoon*) is drawn to her scent, etc etc. It's a very cool book, I highly reccomend that you read it before you see the movie. The front has pale arms and hands holding out an apple like forbidden fruit. There are going to be more books in the series, which will also be made into movies.

Endar's Game - Orson Scott Card - Would be hard to find good child actors, but the story is solid.
Foundation Series - Issac Asimov
Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury - Small book, but a classic nonetheless
The rest of the books I like are either better in prose, too long, or already in a movie form.
Of course, 75% of the books I love are non-fiction which does not lend itself to entertainment movies unless it is made for T.V. like on the History or Discover channel.
