Amy Lee became inspired to write that song after she was sitting in a restaurant. Somebody walked up to her table and asked her something to the effect of “Are you happy with your life”? It was the second single off of the Daredevil soundtrack (Fuel’s Wont Back Down was first) and the first single off of Fallen. Bring Me to Life became the #1 pop song in the country the week of June 13th, 2003 only to be replaced a week later by Kelly Clarkson’s Miss Independent. The song features Paul McCoy, the lead singer of 12 Stones.

Amy Lee’s quote about the song from MTV.com: "Basically, we go through life every day, kind of doing the same thing, going through the motions, and nothing phases us for the most part, then one day something happens that wakes [you] up and makes [you] realize that there's more to life than just feeling nothing, feeling numb. It's as if [you've] never felt before and just realized there's this whole world of emotion or meaning that [you've] never seen before. It's just like, 'Wow, I've been asleep all this time.' "

The video is a live performance/action video and was directed by Philip Stolzl. The video was filmed in Romania in January 2003. The video features a nightmare by Amy Lee in which she falls from a building that apparently has endless amounts of stories. Paul McCoy in the video attempts to save Amy but she slips off towards the end.

In a magazine interview, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park said that Mike Shinoda was originally asked to be featured on the song. Linkin Park was recording Meteora in the same studio that Evanescence was recording Fallen.

Four versions of this song exist:

The Bliss Mix on the Bring Me to Life single (Fallen’s Bring Me to Life sans Paul McCoy’s rapcore vocals). The song was originally intended to be without the vocals when Wind-up felt that it was best to put a male vocalist into the song for the Daredevil soundtrack. The version that featured Paul McCoy stuck.

Bring Me To Life has two different live versions. In the first one you can hear Ben's guitar intro. In the second one Amy takes his place playing piano intro and singing. Amy's intro version is much longer. It was released on Anywhere But Home DVD.

The live acoustic version of BMTL appears on BMTL DVD and on Alice@97.3: This Is Alice Music, Vol.7 compilation (track #5).

Im interested now. The video was removed by the user, but what exacty did it say? I, personally however, have seen a lot of videos' faked to be played backwards with secret messages. I don't think Amy is the kind of person who would have one.

I think adding a male rapper to this song really changed the meaning for me. The demo versions that i have heard, only consisting of Amy, seemed to be pointing towards finding something to wake her up inside. However the male rapper seems to drag the meaning further onto someone. The use of the line "Frozen inside without your touch without your love, darling. Only you are the life among the dead", kind of points towards it being about a person, however Amy says the song can be interpreted either way.

Which way do you all think about it?

I've heard from a couple of places that there is a solo version of this song (only piano and vocals). Is this true?

People have been saying that the highest recorded note Amy has ever hit is the third G above middle C during the live intro to Bring Me to Life.

I don't think this is right - I think this note is the second G above middle C, not the third. People assume it's higher because Amy has a very high-pitched voice.

I'm convinced of this because when she goes slightly lower to finish the intro, she's basically in chest voice, and that would have been impossible if she were as high as G5 beforehand.

It's definately the second G. The third G is somewhere up in the upper stratosphere and if she could pull it off with that much power... well amazing as it would be it might hurt your ears a little!

Right. Even a piccolo would sound unnatural at the third high G. I think it is the second one.

There is also another version of this song, that Amy Lee sang in 2002/2003 on a radiostation. It wasn't the whole thing, but she sang a few lines that went something like:

If you're bored with nothing better to do, try speeding up the version of bring me to life from 'fallen'. Its weird, but it sounds really good, like something 'scooter' would do. I especially like it when it says 'save me', it sounds weird, but amusing!!! he he!:D

Wow, so I'm going through some of my friend's Ev CDs, and I came across this one version, it was burned on a CD so I think he downloaded it, it was Bring Me to Life, mainly, just the piano intro, repeated and Amy saying "How Can You See Into My Eyes, Like Open Doors?" and then like Eminem and other rappers were in it too, most likely a mixed song.....or Possibly an underground MTV2 MASH UP???? Just kidding, It was ghetto-escence....lol.....just thought people might be interested....

It's probably a fan-mix of some sort. People who have nothing else to do with their time release their own mixes of their favorite songs. This is the first time I've ever heard of that version.

I've heard the weird bmtl/ rap version, i found it on singingfish.com . I think it was called 'open doors' but i'm pretty sure its just something someones done in their spare time, like the 'mashed hits' on 'the hits'. its catchy though!!!

My favorite demo is the one with the "scintillating" (which means sparkling. (?):rolleyes: ) guitar solo. EvBoard actually confused me with "Ben's solo." I was killing myself looking for one with Ben siging:p . (So I'm dumb-- sue me!)

BMTL it is a very special music for me because it was for it that I knew the Evanescence… I find that already I attended this video in some site for dowload.

I love this song for 2 reasons:
- I knew evanescence because of this song
- it reflects how I've felt all my life

A few days ago the video for BTML was on tv. I've not seen in ages. Felt good to listen to real Evanescence.

You know, because how the current EV situation is the video all of a sudden has a whole new meaning to me. I see it as a prediction.

The guys being in that room, Amy outside.... the guys in that room are all out of the band at the moment.

And Amy trying to reach them... and her falling down, is how she herself is going downhill lately.

And at the end Ben sitting in the window, looking sad: mourning the perfect band he wanted to create, but got ruined!

I like the beginning of this song. This is the song that got me into Evanescence.

This song has alot of meaning for me! When I was just a bit younger, I never felt good about myself, and I always felt I couldn't do anything right. I was never happy, from things I was going through in my life, and that somethings I wasn't able to do again, because of my spine. Listening to this song, for the first time, has really made me realize, that only i am able to change things, and grow the strength to do other things that I can do, and start getting out in the world, and try new things that I thought I can never do, and just see the true beauty of Life! This song has really inspired me to do all these things, just like the song, I brought myself back to life!!:smile:

There first ever song and one of there best song by Evanescence I don't like the album virsion with the male vocal is better when Amy just sings it the male vocal spoiled the song I think thank god for the Bring Me To Life (Original) is so much better then the Bring Me To Life on Fallen

Has anybody heard it? It's done by some one called MC or DJ Mike or something... it sucks. It's called bring me to life remix or something.
It's just annoying and repetitive and he's just destroyed it. Why would Evanescence give this guy permission to do this to a good song of theirs?? (that's if he got permission). It's crap! What do you all think?:confused:
