Hope Katya don't mind but I used her idea and edited it. I added a tribal symbol and flames. The flames are white to signify purity and peace. The symbol I found had this shape that just reminded me of support and I thought it went really well having white flames and that symbol with Katyas idea. I'm not to great at photoshop. cool challenge! here´s mine :)

I just wanted to remind everyone that's posting and creating logos for Amy that it's just a logo. The entire point of a logo is to be something simplistic, easily noticed, and easily recreated. A lot of these are really neat looking, but they're way too complicated, and on some of them you can't really read the Out of the Shadows: The Amy Lee Fund for Epilepsy bit too well. It's important that the logo design doesn't completely over shadow the words... that's the important part, the logo just needs to draw you in. (But the ideas some have had with using the logo in combination with the words... in merges or surroundings, etc... those are great and creative ideas.)

Just a reminder to stick to the basics, don't get too complicated, and don't put too much in the logo. The point of a logo is not to have so much going on in it, but to capture your attention with one strong look or representation. While most of these look amazing and I'm uber envious of all you photoshop nerds, I could never imagine them actually becoming a logo for something... it's got to do more than just appeal and look pretty.

It might be also helpful for you guys to just try and create a pic separate from the words first, and see if the logo can stand on its own. It should be able to say what the words want to all by itself... and should (in ideal circumstances) be able to be removed from the wording to just stand alone. Less is more, you over-achievers... especially when designing a logo.

I made another one...simpler than the first (I had thought of that, agentpudge, that the logos should really be simpler). Doesn't EXACTLY stick with black and purple, but it comes close. I can always tone it all purple if needed :)

By the way, I'm just using a random font that I think looks okay..haha if someone knows where to find a font close to the one used in the current logo, please let me know :)

I gave it a purple-ish cast, but I'm not sure I'm liking it now.

Also, to Photoshop gurus, I used the Drop Shadow effect, but I'd like the shadow to be more...tilted, I guess the word is. So it's as if it's on a slanted surface, or even the ground. Right now, it looks like I added a random shadowy circle behind 'The Amy Lee Fund for Epilepsy' and I want to get across that it's the shadow of the Lens Flare object. :X How do I do that?


EDIT 2: Made two more because I have no life. I loved my candle flame idea but the actual picture means it's not so logo-y. So I tried my hand at a more logo-ish look. I DO have other variations of the logo itself but I liked this one best.

So... I completely ditched the eclipse, and made a kinda tribal thingy based on hearts, because, well, everyone should be loved. Its basic and simple and gave me something to do.

I took your suggestion regarding the color scheme, but I used my own idea as far as design. This reminds me a bit of Simon in Lord of the Flies who also had epilepsy.

If I had more resources on my computer I might try to make a purple glow from behind the moon. I was also hoping to change the font color of the logo and use a black background for the text. This is the basic idea, though.

Amy, quick question. Is this logo going to be used strictly on the Internet or will it also be used on paper. (letterheads, brochures, buisness cards). I don't know how versitile it should be. Because alot of these are great, but if they are photocopied or turned to black/grey/white, they will lose their effect and alot of the detail.

I wanted to make some more helpful, or what I hope to be helpful, comments on the logos (for those of you that have had the time to make them ::is so jealous:: ). Make sure also, that when you're creating these logos that they're easy to read and see... and that in the confusion of the pictures we don't miss out the importance of the Out of the Shadows fund. I really believe that the logo should only emphasize those words and not overshadow them.

Perhaps what you guys could do before you post, is ask some people around you to take a look at it and get their opinions. Even if any of you go to a school, or work with a design professional, ask art teachers and your bosses their artistic opinions. They can give you specific advice relating to your logo and helpful information on different aspects like coloring, negative space, etc. Try anyone; it will make a difference! Ask them what they think, and if it looks like it works. On some of these I noticed that there is no real connection between the logo and the words, but that both of them just happen to be there... I think that integrating them (in some way) would be more effective.

--By integrating I don't mean that they must necessarily overlap or mesh or anything, but that they have to have some kind of commonality that links them together.--

Then according to your audience you'll be able to fix up your logos and make them your best before you post it to the board. Really only final copies should be posted... it really makes the difference if you take the time to perfect your drafts a bit. Don't be in such a hurry to post your idea that you cut corners.

The designs, I've noticed, have been getting simpler and easier to look at and interpret, but make sure that it's not only visually pleasing, but also easily legible. (And don't get too crazy with those fonts, lol.)

ok, here is my lame attempt at a logo, its not the best quality. And i'm not a very good artist. The symbol means "Beautiful".

it looks blue, but its not. Its purple.

I updated my picture and deleted my old post so i'll post it again if it isn't a big problem. In case it still isn't clear enough, it's the picture of a woman's face and her hand pushing away a veil/blanket/whatever you want it to be so that she could be out of the shadows. I payed attention to what the guys said and tried to emphasize the name more than the logo. Hope she likes it.

AAHHH!! I drew this logo out earlier today and it was HOT. But I have no way of posting the hand drawing, so I had to attempt to recreate it on the computer. Meh. The logo part is ALMOST the idea I had.

I hand drew and coloured this whole thing. Some if ti was alittle uneven, I know, and a little off center. But hey, I'm just a 15 year old guy in Maine :rolleyes:

DAMN IT! My photobucket account was banned because I "violated rules" and I don't know how!

I don't normally participate in any sort of competition (self esteem problems, hehe)...but the issue of epilepsy is a somewhat personal issue to me. Probably not as personal as Amy Lee's. Anyway, I'm doing this because I feel I owe it to my boyfriend to have some kind of contribution to those who want to help fight epilepsy in some way. I don't have a lot of money, fame or a degree in neurology. My boyfriend means a lot to me and I don't know what I would do if I were to find out something had happened to him, be it a car accident or epilespy...

Onto business :)...

I wasn't really sure how to achieve a smokey look with a solid colour logo...so I will post a more picturesque version of it when I got the time.

The purple flame is in there because purple's part of the requested colour scheme and (in my opinion) the flame represents clarity. When I think "Out of the Shadow", I did thought of a person climbing out...but I thought it was a little too obvious. Instead, I thought of a flame, a light source. It provides the shadow, but it also provides a way out of the dark. The seemingly meaningless jagged objects below it has a few meaning in itself. First of all, my boyfriend's mother described how a person undergoing a seizure to be like a lightning storm. The electrical impulses are chaotic, random, etc. That is why the shapes are jagged rather than curved. Second, The lack of total symmetry represents the inbalance in the brain when a seizure occurs. Third, it has some semblance to the symbol we usually relate when we think of medical issues (the winged wand with two snakes coiling upwards (http://chronicle.uchicago.edu/030501/medical-logo-sars200by166.jpg)). The third part occured to me after the logo was completed. I've contemplated adding more to it, but since it's a logo, I wanted to keep it as simple and clean as possible.

I hope you guys aren't bored with my little explanation. :)

If this logo is chosing, I can redo it in vector format so you don't have to worry about the hassles of recreating it for print or web publication purposes. Actually, if any of the other logos are chosen, I extend my offer to "vectorize" their logo as well, if they let me. :D

I'm not much of an artist...like, at all. i'm more of a writer myself...but I think it'd be BEAUTIFUL to see like and angel sitting on her knees with HUGE black wings spand out way above her...rather than out. and like a spotlight directed on her, with pitch black around her...and her head down, with long black hair (the angel being Amy). just an opinion.

For the record kids, you should NOT be using copyrighted work from deviantart.com or any other place. Plagiarism = no.

This includes clip art, copyrighted fonts, graphics and the like.

I'm not sure if Amy is planning on taking these purely for inspiration, or if she's planning on doing anything with them at all, but it's best to be safe. It'd be terrible if she chose your work, and you ended up not being able to have her use it because you used a cheesy little piece of clip art that you weren't supposed to.

Just letting you know out of concern, I guess.

Also, to anyone who wants a tip, a logo generally doesn't have a lot of colors/textures. If it's going to be printed, it should be able to stand on its own on a small 1.5 inch button, or a huge banner. So don't make it super intricate, as a lot of detailing gets lost when things are sized down. I learned quite a few things in my graphic design classes, but I'd say that was probably one of the things that stuck with me the most. The ability to be resized is a big thing.

That kind of ties in with the fact that if yours gets chosen, you'll probably have to make a vector file. But you guys can probably tackle that if/when it comes.

Just to go along with what Brittany said...and I believe someone else said it earlier, but it obviously didn't get through...

When you post a "logo" think about this- if you take the text away, could it possibly represent something? Take the Evanescence symbol for example, it didn't represent anything in particular until it was smacked on everything Ev related- it doesn't even need words to say that it represents Evanescence. That's kind of the idea of a logo.

It sucks, I know. That's what 15 minutes will get you. Anyway, I worked off my original heart design. its smokey and purple and black and simple, so yeah. Here it is. :)

Here's two of mine. I have several more that are all similar, the butterfly just looks different and some of the colors of the fonts. (The only one that is one-of-a-kind is the banner type image.) But this one is one of my favorites. Okay, so they all are. ^_^ This one's not really a logo, persay. Though I think it could be used on a web page.

At any rate, the butterfly was done by me in photoshop. The whole thing was traced from another picture, sort of, then the colors were added and blurred. It didn't take me long, maybe four or five hours. But that's cause I kept getting up and stuff. I pretty much stuck to all of the colors you wanted. If it's too much going on, it can be changed with ease. It also resizes really well, just so all of you people who are picking about that know that. It's also not terribly detailed, that I know of. ^_^ But anyway, hope you like! I'll add the others to this topic soon! ^_^

Oh, and, Amy, if you need brochures designed, I can help with that, if you're interested. I've designed brochures for non profits before.

Well I finally had time today to sit down and come up with something. First one is a tracing of the sketch I did... and the second is one of the tracing colored in (using Paint - go me... I'm such a computer genius). I had really wanted to have two... one with the background black and one with a white background, but I'm just too stupid to figure that out. (I thought you could just use the little Fill Bucket tool, but apparently there are a gazillion little pixels... and each of them was a different shade of gray... so it wouldn't fill for me. I'm sad. Oh well.

Also, ideally, I would not have chosen to have any kind of an outline on the flame of the candle, nor would I have wished that the different purple colors were so distinguishable (I'd most likely have them all merged... so it was clean and pretty)... I believe it would look better, but alas... I cannot do such complicated things. EDIT: If anyone wants to help me figure that out, it'd be greatly appreciated.)

::Sighs:: I probably would have liked to do more effect fancy-ness stuffs to it. Well whatever... I suppose there's really no point in making it any better. I do wish I was able to color it properly. I even have that free Gimp program, and some Photoshop thing lying around, but man... I'd never be able to learn unless I really focused on learning. (I also had no clue how to resize these and make them all cute and tiny; I just spent an hour and a half figuring it out. So, I suppose I'll take the award for biggest techno-dumbass here.) The paint program r0xors! \m/ >.< \m/ ::cough:: Not... ::cough:: Be madly inspired Amy. Take these all and throw caution to the wind, lol.

EDIT: Someone taught me how to invert the colors. I tried it and recolored the whole thing (to be purple) using paint, meh, there was a near waste of forty minutes. Anyway, I thought I'd post what the inverted image looks like too (even though it's in green) because it's so neat! And I wanted to showcase the fact that it can go on black and white backgrounds... which I was afraid of at first. I wonder now if I should have reversed the darkness of the purple... making it darker at the top instead of lighter... hmm - probably. Stupid me.

Hi Amy

A friend of mine showed me your post and hinted that I should try my hand at making you a logo.

You mentioned wanting it tribal, kinda smokey with Black/Purple, so this is what I came up with. Funny thing is I draw tribal-ish designs every now and then just for the heck of it. =P (keep in mind that it was drawn and then scanned onto the computer, and my graphics editing skills couldn't completely save it)

I've had people glance at it and say it looks like different things. I guess it's kind of an inkblot in that sense, and the viewer makes it look as they want it to. I think that's pretty cool, but anywho it's your decision.

Tell me what you think. I'd appreciate it. =)

Here's my attempt. It might look a bit more urban graffitti than tribal (assuming you meant 'tattoo tribal' and not a complew celtic knot or something).

It's supposed to be a candle. I have epilepsy and I've got this necklace with a candle. However, I'm from Sweden and I don't know if it's an international symbol or anything. The idea is that if someone suspects that a person is having a seizure they can easily determine whether or not the person in question have epilepsy. No one knows about the candle thing though. No one seems to know anything about what to do if someone is having a seizure:confused: . I hope this campaign can educate people in what to do and what NOT to do (sticking things in the mouth and such).

It's purple, it's black and it's fairly simple.

One thing is a Logo and another is a ilustration (like in books);) , my apologies coz my two designs are more ilustrations:eek: but guys don´t worry coz our work can be a sketch of a logo you can to work it, actually logo are in 1D,2D and 3D in maximum three colours with his gamma( dark and soft) but we must think in 4 basic points:

-The colors and form
-The person who needs the logo
-Idea with abstraction
-A logo basic or Logo worked (what u decide?)
Well I change my first design in 2d, with less colors and more abstract. The second design is a result of the first, the backgroun color doesn´t matter cause it can be white or black too, I hope tis new designs be close to a logo
