My local radio station is having an "Ottawa Idol" competition - 10 people, 1 winner, who is guarenteed a spot to audition on Canadian Idol.. NO waiting in line for hours..

I am one of the 10... :)

Anyways, I can't wait.. is anyone else auditioning or anything?

I ended up going to try Canadian Idol. It was an awesssssome experience. We waited overnight in a huge group, nearly a thousand of us.. I tried to sleep but it was too noisy and bright - a group would start singing a song, and then eveyone else would join in. It was awesome, just the unity that was happening. Then people started singing on their own, and everyone would lsiten and then clap, and someone else would go, adn they woould have showdowns.. it was really awesome and I made some "overnight" friends waiting. I managed to fall asleep around 5:30 am, btu they woke us up at six and told us to start pakcing everythign up andf stand up and get clsoer together because they were lettnig in all teh people who were outside. They were also giving out free coffee, mmmmm coffee. Everyone was in the bathrooms like retards trying to "make themselves pretty" ect.. I was like, eh, I don't care, I look hot with bed head.
They gave us all bracelets, but split us into two groups - half of us got to go that day and the other half the next daY. Then we went through registration and got numbers, and then Ben Mulruny, the host, came out to speak to us.. he's really nice. Ryan Malcolm was also there, adn spoke to us, and I said hi to him.
I waited with the friends I had made.. mu nymber was like, 288.. by this time I'd been up for more than 24 hours, it was insane. My group was finally called - there are actually two rounds of judging before the ACTUAL judges that you see on tv. The first round you have to go into a trailer in a group of five and sing for two tv producers, who would choose one to move on tot he next round, which was singing by yourself in front of one producer. If you got that, then you got to go to the judges.
I went in with my group, and the first girl who sang was TERRIBLE. She sang her own song, it was the most horrible thing... and they asked her to s ing a different song, so she did... horribleness again. The girl beside me sang Chrsitina Aguilara.. she was awesome. I was like, 0_0. Then I went, and I sang Imaginary down half a notch... I was all crazy passionate and stuff, and when I was done tehre was silence, and the judges said, "Wow. Thanks. You're good." I smiled and said thanks and turned around, and the girls behind me were like, "oh my god." .. and then the last two girls went, and they weren't amazing, but they sang nicely.

In teh end, they chose the first girl to move on. Disappointment, but only temporary. That was my experience!

The first girl who couldn't sing? For what, amusement T_T

Them experiences just go to show that you should never give up home and to continue towards your dream. I saw Driven on VH1 this morning about Outkast and how they nearly split up (sort of) and felt really down after being told "You're not 'star' enough" and nearly getting a contract. But they continued working and finally got that contract from the same guy/label. Anyways I'm sure that was a cool experience and glad you had fun :D

It was a cool experience, and it just fueled my incentive to be a rock star even more. :D

It's on next Tuesday. YAY!

Last year we had some great talent, Billy Klippert, Ryan Malcolm, etc.

I have pretty high expectations this year and hope that I will be satisfied.

I wish they would show more of the first round of the auditions (with the producers, not the judges), then we can see more people that are good.

I was going to try out for Canadian Idol too, but, I wasn't allowed to go. Oh well...

no they just showed a close up of her face. the didnt make it past the realy judges cuz they said she didnt sing loud enough.

I loved that French girl from Montreal (she wore white), amazing tone.

But, I'm not feeling these auditions, maybe that will all change tomorrow night.

Edit: First group tonight wasn't that great.

Jessica was the best IMO, with Kyla and Anabelle in second and third. Annie, Joshua and Brandy disappointed me tonight. Andre was horrible!

strange that this thread has been rather dormant, and even stranger that I'm the one to bump it.... but the show KICKED ASS last night. I'm especially in love with Theresa, but Elena, Kalan, and Jacob were ALSO awesome. I really quite enjoyed Kalan's version of "Born To Be Wild". He doesn't look the part AT ALL but he pulled it off incredibly.

Jacob and Kalan were the best last night... joshua sucked (in my opinion)..

The only thing that I find worth anything about Canadian Idol is Billy Klippert. Great "Levon" cover...

Yeah! Billy Klippert is the only reason i watched the show last time. This time around though they had a much better top 10. i LOVED when Jacob did that david bowie thing with the makeup and the nail polish and everything. that was great! Kalan, kaleb and Theresa are great too. The rest are good but..yeah. IMO, If one of those 4 dont win..there is something seriously wrong with the canadian idol fans

Canadian Idol is on tonight. I'm thinking Theresa is going home and Jacob and Kalan will be in the finals. And I'm pretty sure Kalan is going to win, he's the best one.

I like Theresa a bit more, but I think Kalan's a bit better, and... given the demographic of the show (which is NOT 22 year old males), I think he should win fairly easily. BUT, I've been wrong before.

They're both (and Jacob too) far better than anything from previous seasons. I hope they all do well in the future, that's for sure.

Kalan won last night... his victory was well deserved.

Yeah, they showed on the news tonight Medicine Hat after Kalan won. They said it was almost like during the playoffs anytime the Flames won a round. I'm happy for him, and this is the second time someone from Alberta won. :D

Everybody call right now and vote for Melissa! I told her I had hlaf the internet population going to vote for her. She sang Concrete Angel, and kind of screwed up the words, but that's okay! It was quite obvious she was liked by the judges, so that's a very good sign. I'm so excited for her, and I'm so proud of her. She did so well. I've been telling her for years she'd be famous one day. Vote vote vote!!!

Honestly April, tell her that I said she's amazing. I voted like hell for her, because she really deserves to be there. And the voting payed off, because she's in the top 10 ^_^

I saw her last night,April and she was amazing. Her voice is absoloutly beautiful. I voted for her too, it took forever to get through, so that must be a good thing;)

YAY! :D :D I watched Canadian Idol for the first time last night because I was excited that there might be a chick idol. lol! And a Calgarian, no less! ^^ I'm glad she won. She has a very nice voice. Rex isn't that bad, but I liked Melissa a lot better.
