View Full Version : Coffee Wars! McDonalds to whoop Starbucks Coffee's ass?

Miles D

So, by now you all have been around a starbucks store that gave out a free sample this week. Did you know it's to head off a McDonald's onslaught? Dunkin' Donuts is also a third party in this winner-take-all cagematch.

Here is the story (http://news.yahoo.com/s/usatoday/20060316/bs_usatoday/mcdonaldsdebutofpremiumcoffeestirsuprivals).

So, let the coffee wars begin. Will McDonalds whoop Starbucks' ass with its scalding hot / lawsuit famous brew? Or will Dunkin Donuts come from behind and have the last laugh? Vote now. Which drip coffee is the best?

:( My bad.

Memphis doesn't have a 7-11. Thus, left off. We don't have a dunkin' donuts either, but it was on the story so... included.

I dislike coffee. But Starbucks is all my dad will buy. And their mocha frappucchinos are teh shit. So Starbucks is my vote.

Starbucks just pwns in general. Like their Chai Tea kicks ass. :D And yeah. Starbucks wins in general for me for reasons other than coffee.

I voted for Starbucks since it's my favorite coffee. After that, though, Dunkin Donuts is way better than McDonalds - there's no comparison.

coffee. i don't really care who makes it. i love it.
i have to say star bucks is good possibly a bit over rated but it was pretty much the best coffee to drink in singapore. macdonalds coffee isn't good it is the crap stuff but the mac-caffee is a different story and their coffees are good. dunkin donuts isn't in aus so i can't comment.
cheers everyone *drinks from mug of morning coffe*

I don't drink coffee at all but Starbucks frapps and their other stuff are really scrumptious.

I'll have to choose Starbucks. I'm always willing to go on a Starbucks run. :)

I love Starbucks, Gloria Jean's is amazing too. Mmmm. Starbucks has so much that is good, and McDonald's has a bunch of crap. McDonald's shouldn't even be allowed to have coffee. McDonald's is a joke to me.

Reason #1 It's fairly cheap.
Reason #2 I can sit here on my lasy ass and have it whenever I want.
Reason #3 It tastes really good and has the little white swirly stuff in it.
Reason #5 I can have it exactly how I want it and don't have to wait in a line.
Reason #4 Their advertising gets stuck in my head.

Best part of waking up is folgers in your cup. Well it is!

HAHA! Me too! As much as I want a Starbucks, there's not a close one where I can run off to in the morning to buy. And even if there was...LINES! People are so aggravated before they had their coffee. I can't stand a routine atmosphere in Starbucks.

I voted Starbucks, simply because if I want coffee, I go to a coffee shop, not a fast food junk shop(however much it's trying to change it's image)

are you kidding me? mcdonalds coffee is gross! seriously you can't even call it coffee! maybe your maccy d's have actually figured out how to make it but all of ours certainly have no clue!

the two other really good coffee chains we have are Nero and Costa. Nero are good for mochas as they're not too sickly. Costa are good for frappechinos, they do loads of flavours! but overall starbucks is best. i can't go without a hazlenut skinny late!

I don't really do coffee (tea all the way) and I can't remember who's hot chocolate is better - Starschmucks or Costa Coffee. How useful is that? I'm going with Costa though, because they do a damn good ice chocolate milkshake or something like that (can't remember the name  ).

...all you people disappoint me.

How can you NOT love Dunkin Donuts??? (I will excuse the west coast people who aren't around it enough to love it....) but for all you east coasters...*shakes head again* From the french vanilla to blueberry and all the other flavour infusions.....the new turbo boosted variety....dunkachinnos, vanilla chai.....mmmmmmm.......how could you vote against them!!!!
..

(....the previous statement has been brought to you and paid for by Dunkin Donuts.)
..

You probably should have included Peet's Coffee, Coffee Bean, Quick Check...and all the other 100000 types of coffee out there. Don' be hatin' on hte lil' people.

*is a coffee whore*

That isn't the issue. The issue is my girlfriend saying she wants to diet but drinks coffee muchly. That's like saying you want to lower cholesterol, then put a block of salt in your water.

Starbuck is the Bud-light of coffee. Many people enjoy it but have no clue as what makes a good cup of joe. They know what they like but they don't truly understand what they are enjoying.

Cheers to Starbucks for bringing the art of ground wholebean coffee to the masses. Booo for destroying the art with commercialism.

When Starbucks first opened in 1971, they had a great idea. Bring the flavor of great coffee to people who can't get it. They roasted a wonderful coffee that was sold to many restaurants. They WERE one of the finest roasters in the country until coffee became such a, pardon the pun, a "BUZZ" beverage. When I had my restaurant, we served 'qualiuty' coffee not gourmet coffee. To me gourmet means flavored coffees or wholebeans with added flavorings. Sure we served that but did not market it as such. It was always quality coffee from a respected roaster. After searching for nearly two years, we setteled on a roaster from San Francisco, Montanos Brothers. We tried Peets. Seattles Best etc. but MB just had what we were looking for. We would make an order on Mon they would roast it on Tue or Wed and we would get it Thursday or Fri. Fresh roasted coffee and good water is the key to great coffee. If you can get fresh roasted Starbucks, then chances are it will be great coffee. But getting fresh roasted Starbucks is not going to happen when you buy it at Wal-Mart or any other grocery retailer. Always get it from a coffee house. If you get it from a Starbucks, make sure that it is never over two months old. They should be able to give you a roast date.

Just like the micro brews of today, there are many fine micro-roasters as well. Before someone jumps on the band wagon of Starbucks, research and find what America has to offer in the art of coffee roasting. You WILL be shocked at what may be around the corner from your home.

If you want a coffee experience, get you hands on Montanos Brothers or Graffeo coffee. These are two of the most respected coffee roasters in the Bay Area. In my eyes, the world.

"Friends don't let friends drive and drink STARBUCKS." This was a bumpersticker we had on our cars and at our ordering counter.

Never Never put your whole beans in the freezer. Always keep them in an airtight container in a dark cool space. Never store two different types of beans in the same airtight container.

I haven't even been in a Dunkin Donuts since I was itty bitty. They got rid of all of them around here about a decade ago. All we got now is 7 Eleven and Starbucks.

Starbucks = great selection, no doubt. Very good quality coffee at expensive prices. (Same old shit that's been said already.)

The best latte I've had, though comes from a place called Connecticut Muffin, a small little coffee/bakery shop in Brooklyn, NY.

I do like Seattle's Best, though - their Caramel Mochas are the shizz.

Drinking Mcdonalds is like drinking melted turd. 'Nuff said.

Best hazelnut coffee I've had comes from a place called Mykonos, it's a greek café. Very yummy.

I'm not gonna rank them, but the best I think is Starbucks, because they do make good coffee, and they also have three locations within 5-10 minutes from my house.

As far as the coffee feud, I didn't have the time to get free coffee that Wednesday, because I was on a group trip to Manhatten in NY, and my group leader hates Starbucks with a fiery passion.

I guess that means McDonald's is promoting something that's equivalent to New-Coke...

We'll I work at Tim Hortons. The coffee there is good. However Dunkin Donuts is a lot better. That is when you can actually find a DD where they can actually make the coffee. Have you ever went into one and they just cant get it right ever?

Starbucks remains supreme! Well, out of the list that you had on the poll it does. If we're talking about real coffee, then none of those can even measure up to European coffees. Like the Austrian, German, French ones. Now that is good coffee.

Anyone who is Austrian or been to Vienna had Damels coffee? It's heavenly.

I read an article about them implantin' a Starbucks in Brazil this year. I really really think that's stupid.
First of all they are going to charge R$10,00 (~ U$4,62) for a cup of coffee.. I really don't know what's their reason for this price since brazil is one of the biggest coffee producer, i mean, are they going to import water? O_o. And we are used to paying like.. R$1 for a cup of coffee.. A very small cup because the coffee we drink here is tottally different from US coffee, for example. It's way stronger and if we drank it in Starbucks's huge cup, we wouldn't sleep for days O_o. I read that the responsible for bringin' Starbucks said that.. it's not about coffee, that's the price because they want it to be for "rich people" (the kind of people that pays R$10 for a coffe) because they care about the status that a Starbucks cup in your hand gives you. I was the first person to be curious about Starbucks coffee and stuff (I love knowing about different countries' foods, drinks and stuff), but I thought it was so disgusting that now I don't even wanna hear about it. I'm just going to laugh seein' "rich people" walkin' around with their coffee pretendin' they are the Olsen twins. It's gonna be funny.
ps.: I love Mac Donald's coffee. I don't know if they addapted it for Brazil (small cups and stuff) or if it's like this in every country, but it's a good, strong, affortable coffee :). And they have the best mokaccino ever!

starbucks, hands down.
whoever started this post, why macdonalds?! *dies* oh, how you shame the coffee industry. macdonalds coffee is like...coffee flavoring, mixed into water. in like a 1t:50c ratio.
as you can tell, im an avid starbucks fanatcic. if they had a fanclub, i would so join. it's disturbingly expensive though, i only have it as a treat. the lattes are really awesome though, if you get their flavored ones, they're just perfect when you get them so there's no hassle to see how much more sugar/cream you need.
im really upset about how they only have the holiday ones around christmas though. the eggnogg and gingerbread ones are like...the best coffee i've ever had. they totally...wait, am i allowed to say this here? reprase of what i was going to say: they kick butt.
well, im biased for eggnogg and gingerbread in the first place, so that *might* just be why i love them so much....
oh, but the cinnamon dolche is crap.
*heart* starbucks!!!:D

My mom likes McDonald's coffee. Haha!

See, I keep telling Tracie that she needs to come up to Canada to try out her coffee fix. Timmy's is the best coffee on earth, ask any Canadain!
I work in an airport with 3 timmy's and 2 second cups. BOTH Second Cups dont even make as much as ONE Tim's in a day...
In most places in Canada you can find a tim's on EVERY corner! *Except Wawa, ON, where there isnt one for oh.....three hours on either side of the town...which I dont get*But regardless, Canadain coffee is like Canadian Beer, more stronger and kicks a little more ass!

LOL!

Yes, you do.

And being the true coffee whore that I am, I must take you up on your offer sometime. Plus, last time I was in Canada, it was winter so I might have to make a venture sometime this summer or fall. And now since Colby's living in NJ, I might even bribe him to come with me. :)
