Anyone heard of Cold? "Remedy" is their first single off their first cd "Year of the Spider". It's a pretty good song, though, I haven't heard any of their other songs. By the way, for any fans of Cold, are they a new band? This is the first time I've heard of them.

Cold are amazing.
They have three albums...
[list]
Cold - 1998
13 Ways To Bleed Onstage - 2000
Year Of The Spider - 2003
[/list:u]
I saw them live once, supporting Soulfly on their debut UK show.
The reason 'Stupid Girl' sounds different to the rest of their material is because it was co-written by Rivers from Weezer.

I have all three of the cold cds. I would have to say that they are good. they are one of the two most listened groups in my cd collection right now. I don't really like the first cd all that much. The third cd has three songs that i like the best ("wasted years", and tracks #1 & 2). 13 Ways to bleed onstage is the one that i like the best. If you haven't heard their song "gone away", i highly recommend downloading it. It is the shizznet!!
Track one on year of the spider is "remedy"
Track two on year of the spider is "suffocate"
DOWNLOAD THEM, THIER GREAT!

And...uh...you guys do know that "Gone Away" is a hidden track in number 13, right? It's about 16 minutes and 10 seconds into the track. Now THAT'S a song that can make me cry.

I love Cold! They are one of my favorite bands!13 Ways to Bleed on Stage is indeed a great album. There is not one bad song on there. But Year of the Spider is just as good if not better. Scooter Ward has really grown as a lyricist since their last record. I love the tracks "Wasted years", "Sad happy", and "the rain song". As you can probably tell I like dark, depressing music because it is like therapy for me.

(abridged review)
Renda and I headed to the End Session with COLD.
We had to walk about 8 blocks to get to the studio where it was being held. But due to my poor map skills we ended up taking a detour and when we got to the studio, 2 people got to the door 5 seconds before us. So we were 3rd & 4th in line. So this is about 1:15pm, the End Session was slated to start at 2:15pm. Hour early, just about right. 2:15 rolls around, no sign of the band, 3:15 rolls around, no sign of the band. 4:15 a SUV pulls up and Scooter & Terry get out. 3 hours we waited outside in the sun, dehydrated, hungry and loopy as all hell!
So the band is setting up, Terry comes outside again for a smoke and is talking to the first girl in line, she was a total Cold fan so that was cool for her. He finished his cigarette and went back inside, and finally they let us into the studio. Since we were nearly first we got right up at the front and grabbed PILLOWS! I was basically laying down for the whole thing, plus peeps behind me could see too then. All the lights were off and lots of candles lit, it was beautiful.
Cold was late arriving because they had just come from a 30hr bus ride from Kansas to Seattle, with little sleep. Scooter wasnt feeling 100%, but his performance was amazing!!! They did an acoustic set with "Gone Away", "Bleed" which half way through Scooter wasnt diggin the way it was going so he started it over. Thats my favorite Cold song too so I was lovin it... TWICE! Then they played "No One", and "Suffocate" which during the chorus he started to sing the original lyrics he had written for the song on accident. lol so he started over that one too. Then by obligation basically they played "Stupid Girl". lol That was gonna be the end of the set, Terry was done but Scooter wanted to do one more song, so he grabbed the guitar and performed a rare bonus song called "Check Please".
After that we all head out and pass by the table where they sign stuff. I got them to sign a promo 8x10. Told Terry he did a great job when he was playing with Staind back in 2001. And I like thanked Scooter and shook his hand.

For Kevin / Scooter / Terry
So then Renda and I head on back to Bumbershoot. I get to where we were to meet up. The gate to Memorial Stadium was open and people were flowing by the hundreds, John & Phil had already gone through. So we go in, use a payphone and get a hold of John. I go to score seats in the grandstand to find John, Phil, Lisa, & Biggs all there too. Renda makes her way back and we hang out for a while waiting for the show to start. Phil & Renda being totally insane head down to the field to be closer and get killed by the moshpit. smooth move.
Cold comes out. Acoustically they were AMAZING but I've seen some of their live rock performances and usually they are not that great... they blew me away! EXCELLENT SET! You would never know they were hella tired and damn near dead. They hit it right on! I was totally impressed and am an even bigger fan now without a doubt after a perfect acoustic show and a perfect rock show.

Year of the Spider is one of those CD's I cant stop listening to. I had been a fan of cold for awhile but hadnt bought the 3rd CD. Then I went and saw them with Evanescence and they kicked ass! I didnt get to hear all of it due to some violent mosh pits that I was forced into, but that situation was rectified. What I did hear was awesome. So I went and bought Year of the Spider. I kid you not, there is not a bad song on the CD. Musically it is very simple but sometimes simplicity is the best. I cant stop listening to the CD. It sits right next to my Satriani and Ev.

Yes, Cold is back! And though some of you may not care, some of you might. They've got a new song and a new video called "With My Mind." The song is on the PsiOps (a soon to be released game for PS2) Soundtrack along with some other Cold rarities, including a never before released song. If you click the link I've provided below then it'll take you straight to a page that provides all the various versions of the video (windows media, realplayer, etc etc etc).
EDIT: didn't notice that Cfw already beat me to mentioning the video, but he didn't provide a link, so all wasn't in vain. Damn him for being so on top of things. :D

Not so new, as With my Mind was written with Terry. Ev really lucked out with Terry, but it makes me leary of future Cold releases. The musical change from their self-titled without Terry to 13 Ways To Bleed on Stage and Year of Spider with him was amazing. I wish them the best and hopefully their new guitarists Matt and Eddie can fill in for Terry's creative imput.

Psi-Ops is the ps2/xbox game that Cold's song "With My Mind" is featured in. It's coming out soon.. June 16th to be exact and if you buy it at target then you get a 4 song EP along with it. It has "With My Mind" on it obviously, but it also comes with "Came All the Way" (a previously unreleased track) and 2 remixes. I believe there is also a $10 off coupon somewhere on the Target website, which is awesome.

New story from Billboard.com
Cold Shifts To Atlantic For New Album
Hard rock act Cold is in the studio working on its fourth album. Due sometime in 2005, the set will be the follow-up to 2003's "Year of the Spider" and the Flip Records band's first Atlantic effort after three releases through Interscope-affiliated labels A&M and Geffen.
At least eight songs are written for the new album, according to a post by Cold frontman Scooter Ward on the message board of the band's official Web site. "You guys are gonna love the new s***," he enthuses. "It's a mixture of all the records' kinda vibe."
The new sessions find original guitarist Matt Loughran back in the Jacksonville, Fla.-based band, following last year's exits of Terry Balsamo (for a spot in Evanescence) and Kelly Hayes. Bassist Jeremy Marshall and drummer Sam McCandless round out the group.
"This is a great band with exceptional musicianship, lyrical depth, emotional power, and real integrity," Atlantic Chairman/CEO Jason Flom says. "They have continued to evolve with each new album, and I believe that they have only scratched the surface of their true potential."
Released by Flip/Geffen, "Year of the Spider" debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 506,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
In his post, Ward suggests the band is hoping to hit the road again in December, although nothing has been officially confirmed.

New stuff from Billboard.com
Cold Brings The 'Pain' On Fourth Album
By Barry A. Jeckell, N.Y.
As tipped here last fall, Cold will on Aug. 30 release its Lava debut, "A Different Kind of Pain. The group previously recorded for several Universal Music Group labels; its most recent album, 2003's "Year of the Spider," was issued by Flip/Geffen.
The disc reunites the band's with guitarist Matt Loughran, who was a member of the outfit in its pre-Cold days as Grundig. That Jacksonville, Fla.-based group first caught the ear of Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, who engineered its signing to his Flip imprint. Loughran fills a revolving slot of past guitarists, including Terry Balsamo (now with Evanescence), Kelly Hayes and Eddie Rendini.
The band -- rounded out by bassist Jeremy Marshall and drummer Sam McCandless -- recorded the new album in Bearsville (N.Y.) Studios and Virginia's Studio Barbbarosa with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette (Chevelle, Puddle Of Mudd).
First single "Happens All the Time" is already making inroads at U.S. radio, and debuts this week at No. 34 on Billboard Radio Monitor's Active Rock airplay chart and No. 36 on the Mainstream Rock list. Other titles on the set include "Back Home," "Another Pill," God's Song," "Ocean" and "A Different Kind of Pain."
"Making this record wasn't just about dealing with the darkness, it was a healing process," singer Scooter Ward reveals. "Everyone who was involved and everybody who was around us at the time was changed by this album."
"Year of the Spider" debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 533,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set included the single "Stupid Girl," co-written by Ward with Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, which peaked at No. 4 on the Mainstream Rock tally and No. 6 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart.
Here is the "A Different Kind of Pain" track list:
"Back Home"
"Feel It in Your Heart"
"Anatomy of a Tidal Wave"
"A Different Kind of Pain"
"Another Pill"
"Happens All the Time"
"When Heavens Not Far Away"
"God's Song"
"When Angels Fly Away"
"Tell Me Why"
"Ocean"
Sounds like it's going to be very different from their previous three albums.

The advance version "came out" yesterday ;). I've been listening to it pretty much non-stop and it is just beeeaauuutiiifuuuullll :p. Seriously, this album will pwn you if you enjoyed YOTS. 11 awesome emotional tracks with some of the most beautiful lyrics i've ever heard. The only way you could possibly be dissapointed is if you expected something heavy, because you won't find it. The funny thing is that the number of tracks and the position of the heartbreaking ballad (piano included) are the same as on Fallen hehe.
Anyway, it's a kickass record, similar to YOTS and Staind's last two albums i guess. I still haven't decided on which tracks i like the most, they're all great.
I can't wait until september when it will (hopefully) be available here so i can buy it :).
Cold pwnz \m/.

Just letting you know that the track "Anatomy of a Tidal Wave" was changed to the second working title of the album, "The Calm That Killed The Storm".
This is the bio on the site. There was a wonderful story about one of the songs on the album and it shows how caring these guys are.
COLD IS:
Scooter Ward : Vocals
Matt Loughran: Guitar
Jeremy Marshall : Bass
Sam McCandless : Drums
NO ONE could have predicted the chaos and upheaval the members of Cold have faced over the past two years. Following the triumph of "13 Ways To Bleed On Stage" (2000) and 2003's "Year Of The Spider" (which spawned two hit singles, "Suffocate" and "Stupid Girl"), the outlook was sunny. Both albums went Gold. They had numerous appearances on television and toured extensively with bands like Marilyn Manson, Godsmack and 3 Doors Down. In the brilliant light of their success Cold could not see the dark clouds looming on the horizon.
Differences with executives at Geffen led to tensions within the band, and Cold was soon seeking a new record label. Singer Scooter Ward was battling a flurry of personal troubles and demons. Halfway through a sold-out tour opening for Evanescence, Cold guitarist Terry Balsalmo filled in for a departed Ben Moody, who abruptly left his band. When the tour was completed, the future of Cold was up in the air and Balsalmo jumped ship. The gathering storm had become a full-blown tempest.
When the band retuned home to Jacksonville, Florida, Ward learned his younger sister was ailing. After a short stay in rehab and resolving to stay clean, Ward discovered that his sister had cancer. In the midst of so much despair, Ward returned to his music. And with the help of drummer Sam McCandless, the singer began to write the songs that would make up "A Different Kind Of Pain."
As Ward puts it, "The process for making this record wasn't just about dealing with the darkness, the dark side; it was a healing process. This changed my life. It changed our lives. Everyone who was involved and everybody who was around us at the time was changed by this record."
"We went into our rehearsal space in Jacksonville but we weren't comfortable writing there. At the time, my little sister, Jen, had been diagnosed with cancer. She was going through a really bad time and everyone was telling her to get her stuff in order. So we moved our band equipment into my parents' house and wrote the record in Jen's room, where she grew up. As soon as we got in that room we were so productive, we were coming up with two or three songs a day."
Determined to confront their fears, McCandless saw an outlet for their pain. "It was totally a different writing style for us, compared to all our records. It was easy to focus. And the whole record is about that. No matter how bad in life everything gets, it's about overcoming. We came from the darkest depths into the light and for us this is the most powerful record we've ever done."
Though they originally intended to title the album, "The Calm That Killed The Storm" invoking a grand metaphor on their experiences, the band decided that the collection of songs they had written demanded a broader interpretation. The songs they had written were not just about the band.
"We really connect with our fans," Ward says. "One fan reached out to me online and told me her mom was an alcoholic, tearing it up every night at bars. Her father had beaten her so badly that she went to the hospital with broken ribs and she's only fourteen years old. She was writing that she wanted to get away, so I wrote back and asked her if she wanted me to call the police or Child And Family Services. She wrote me that there was nothing I could do; her mom would deny everything. I told her I would write a song for her and I did my best to put myself in her space, to feel what she went through and I ended up writing 'Tell Me Why.' I'm able to relate to stuff like that because of things that I've gone through or am going through. And I know there's a way to push through and that it's not that drastic, there's always a way out. She knows I wrote this song and she hasn't heard it yet but when she does, I hope that it helps."
"A Different Kind Of Pain" was recorded at Bearsville Studios in upstate New York and produced by Michael "Elvis" Baskette (Chevelle, Iggy Pop and Puddle of Mudd). "Michael really understood where we were coming from," smiles Ward. "He knows how to get a really great guitar sounds, and we already knew him so it was very comfortable. We'd been writing for six months and we recorded the record in about three months." "It was near or around this time that we got picked up by Lava," adds McCandless. "Going from one label to another wasn't a big deal exactly; we had confidence. We've always sold a decent amount of records and knew that we had a strong fan base. I didn't really care if we were going to end up with another major or go to an indie: as long as we did it our way."
Baskette's ability to achieve great guitar sounds is a wall of power for Ward to wail against. Evident on "Happens All The Time," open, ringing notes give way to power chords as the singer pleads, "I can't hold on/This happens all the time/I still find my way to you". Ward later stretches his voice and reveals the true sound of longing on the song "Tell Me Why" as the crescendo of guitars rains down. In addition, the slow, driving chorus on songs like "Ocean," and "A Different Kind Of Pain" belies the strife within the lyrics; and Baskette has handled it deftly.
Scooter Ward's eyes light up as he shares the climax of their tale. "Around the time we were finishing up, we learned that Jen had gone into remission. It was really cool. It seemed that, with everything going on, we needed to write this record in her room. We needed to push through all that, and when we did, things started getting better for everyone. It was really strange; after all we've been through, it was like we were being guarded the whole time. I've never been religious or anything like that…ghosts, angels etc but there was something happening for us. We're a four-piece now, and we have a new label and record that we're really proud of. I've never felt so good about being in this band as right now. This record and everything we did with it felt like we were guided. I felt focused. This record is marked by transition and upheaval and literally from lyrics to graphics about making it through the storm. And I'm more proud of this record, more than any other record we've done."
"For Cold, music is…" Scooter pauses. "It's real. It's medicine. It's therapy. And I think anybody, no matter what age you are, can be affected by it."
For Scooter to have gone through his problems before this album was made, it's indicative of his strength of character.

I love Cold. It's my 2nd fave band. I like everything: music, lyrics, vocal. How pity the band folded.
But well, there's still Cold, but there are only 2 members. And Scooter has a new project The Witch. Hope, we'll be able to hear anything soon.
With My Mind is an amazing track. It's simply awesome.
And my fave album is Year of the Spider.

This is one of my favorite bands. In my top 10 most def. It sucks that they have had tough luck label wise and with two gold albums "13 ways to bleed on stage" and "Year of the spider" could not keep their cred. "A different kind of pain" is my favorite album by them but it sold the least. sad to say the least.

13 Ways to Bleed Onstage is one of the most important albums to me. Still amazing to this day, and it was sad to see them break up. Looking forward to Scooter's side-project's debut album.
