I have the video of the Rock Am Ring show and the Cologne show. I've also got quite a bit of others, but I noticed that the song order the band played is the same in both...as usual. I know most bands play the same ticket at all their shows...I'm just wondering how the band managed to choose the order in which they played the songs. I noticed "My Immortal" and "Breathe No More" were pretty much in the middle of the show, and with Amy seated playing the piano...almost seemed like time to rest during the show. Is there any particular way you choose the order, or does the band just set the songs at random before the tour?

Nice question, I'd like to know that too!:), but still maybe that match (I mean between Rock Am Ring show and the Cologne show playlist) is accidental.

Well, I have the Live at Hard Rock show, Live at Pink Pop and some of Pepsi Smash...and they all seem to be pretty much the same. I haven't been able to afford to go to one of their shows when they've come through town, so I wouldn't be able to compare what I watch here to what I would have seen...but I think the order is pretty concrete. Most bands play the same order because it becomes like repition and after a certain point they just know what they're gonna play and when. Just for reference here's the order of the two concerts I originally mentioned:
1) Haunted
2) Going Under
3) Taking Over Me
4) Everybody's Fool
5) My Last Breath
6) Farther Away
7) Zero
8) Breathe No More
9) My Immortal
10) Bring Me to Life
11) Tourniquet
12) Imaginary

That's also the setlist from the show in Oklahoma City on Aug. 11, except that we had Thoughtless instead of Zero. As an encore we got Zero and... um... Whisper! Yeah, that was it, Whisper :p .
Sorry, had to think about it for a minute

I think it depends on the concert setting...cuz they didn't do "Breathe No More" or "My Immortal" at Rock Am Ring. They did "Even in Death" and "Whisper" instead. Rock Am Ring was a huge open area, while cologne was confined to a small auditorium type room...so it seemed more personal and easier to pull out a keyboard and let her play "BNM" and "MI". I could be wrong...just hoping to hear what they have to say bout it.

rock am ring 2003 was before they added mi to the setlist. (as far as i know) and it wasn't during a tour, it was their first german show and their first one in front of such a big crowd. when they did their german tour they played it like cologne, but when ben left they didn't play zero anymore.
rock am ring 2003 was like rock in rio. they added thoughtless and there was no more even in death.
i think this little "break" in the middle when they play bnm and mi really is for amy to rest a little. look how she's rocking all that time, maybe she need to catch her breath.
another reason why they have this order could just be how the songs fit together. or what guitars the guys need for the songs. they change them sometimes..
i don't really know it, but that's what seems to be logical to me....

12.) Imaginary
13.) Whisper

Actually, picking the order takes alot of thought. The key of the songs is a big part of it, because different songs have different guitar tunings, and if you play a few in a row in the same key, you don't have to stop to change guitars. Also, the piano songs are side by side because otherwise we'd have to pause the show to set up the piano more than once. And yeah, the middle of the set is the best place to sit down and catch my breath. Its a sauna in those lights! Often a sauna in a leather corset... Also you just want to set up a setlist with the best impact, drawing you in at the beginning and keeping your interest until the end. make sense?

i can not recall what the song order was at the office depot center in sunrise FL but i do remember that it was set up real well. the transition from song to song was perfect IMO. everything was smooth. that was the best and i mean the best live show i have ever been to.

*loves the transition from BMTL to Tourniquet to Imaginary for that exact reason*
LMAO!! I like that one, Amy. "A sauna in a leather corset"...Well, the stage lights ARE hot as hell, so I guess that would work. (Usually, when I'm performing, my costume is way too hot to be considered therapeutical, but then again, you probably don't need to wear 19th-century dresses, either)
Makes a ton of sense, and it definitely makes an impact. Even though I knew exactly what song was going to be next at the Philly show, I was all excited and jumping up and down and being a total nerd about it lol. It's exciting, and the level of excitement never drops, even at the piano part.
And Whisper...dude. Amy. Keep that as the encore. That's the second-most amazing song live EVER (the first being Farther Away), and I can never breathe correctly when it's done. (I can't speak or hear correctly by the end of the whole thing either, but that's besides the point ;))
How long did it take you guys to make the setlist when you were first starting out? I notice that there haven't been too many dramatic changes, other than bringing in your keyboard/piano for BNM and MI.

She's right, ya know. There was this one time where I played Hansel in the Hansel and Gretel opera..and at the end of act one, we have to fall asleep, and the lights slooowly fade out.
Definitely a sauna moment. It was hoooot! lol. It would've been very comfortable, except that I was lying on the floor and my arm was falling asleep...ow. Took me ten minutes to shake the needles out.
Oh yeah, and someone with 20-20 vision answer this...when you're onstage, looking out at the audience, can you see them? I can't. I perform blind lol, and the blurred glare of the lights makes the audience a black wall. I performed with contacts once (they cross my eyes...I never really wear 'em now :() and I was able to see the audience a little bit. So I just wondered.

a couple of years ago I *had* to perform at my school's ... I don't even know what it was, I remember I could see the audience...
so... I guess you can see them, the thing is that I didn't want to look at the audience. :o .

When I was in Drama, if there was a spotlight on me, I couldn't really see the audience. Otherwise, I sorta could, but I didn't try, 'cause then I'd be more nervous. I could hear different people's laughs though (it was a funny play, they weren't cruelly laughing...I think.)

because different songs have different guitar tunings, and if you play a few in a row in the same key, you don't have to stop to change guitars.
on that, can I ask how come you dont have a few guitars ready to go side of stage and at the end of the song your roadies swap over guitars?
probably sounds like a pretty dumb question, but im just curious is all.

Because she doesn't play guitar during shows. ;)
John has a few guitars that he switches off for. He posted about it, but I don't remember where *goes on a search*

I thought the way they set the list out for Birmingham was great. Mind you it wouldnt matter as all your songs are brilliant. I have seen some footage of you all doing concerts at Am Ring and Colonge and you looked exhausted(still beautiful). I bet your throat hurts really badly after a show. Do you get ill more now than what you ever did(i hope you dont mind me asking that)

Have you seen the Rio concert? I am still in awe of that. Amy was so sick and she powered her way through the whole set. Sounded. Freakin'. Awesome. (And I FINALLY got the vid for it and it's amaaaaaziiing...I think that Whisper was one of their best performances yet)
I would imagine that the time zones are a big issue with tiredness. I went to Germany for ten days two years ago and I couldn't adjust. I was exhausted all the time. 9 hours is a hugeeee difference; and Ev has travelled all over the world!
When did Amy look 'exhausted' in either the Rock Am Ring or Cologne concerts? I have both of them and I don't think she looks tired...

i'm sure it does make a huge difference. about 6 years ago i went to Hungary for two weeks. there was a 6 hour difference in the time zones...and all i wanted to do was sleep! i think i would have slept two weeks straight...if my mom wouldn't have woken me up all the time!

I sure didn't notice anybody losing interest at the Wembley concert in May... what a show! I wrote about it afterwards while I was still on a high (which lasted for 3 days of me saying OMG I SAW EV LIVE to anyone who would listen) and even now, months later, reading it gives me that high! Nothing compares to seeing one of your favourite bands live, nothing... my mum said the nerdiest thing ever, she was like "why don't you send that notebook to Amy? I'm sure she'd love to read it..."!!!!!
The setlist rocked, I was so made up you were playing Breathe No More, since it's my favourite song, I was almost crying when it started. Interest levels kept? Most definately! I came back raving about the concert so much I gathered a huge group of people to go next time! Yay!!
