Anyone familiar? He's amazing. Kind of like Elliott Smith, if you guys know who that is. His cd, O, is out right now, and you can download a bunch of stuff at http://www.damienrice.co.uk.

I personally love "Cannonball," "Amie," and "Volcano" (the single out now). But everything I've heard is quality.

I've heard one song, "Volcano" and it is a very soothing song. Not bad.

Yeah i have heard of him, dont mind him. I read a review for O where they compared him to David Gray and Jeff Buckley. After that kind of a wrap i just had to check him out. Great cooking music, the kind that you just have on in the back ground while you sink a few glasses of red wine while preparing a meal.

Figured I should post here to give it a little bump, and more importantly... to say that those three songs (as those are all I've heard so far) are DAMN good. I should attempt to check out some more of his stuff in the near future.

Thanks to (the other) Lauren for telling me about Damien and sending me a couple songs. *coughdamnyouforgettingmehookedonallthisamazingmus iccough* :)

He definitely seems to have a future. He won the Shortlist Music Award and I wouldn't be surprised to hear buzz for the Grammies. Volcano is damn good song. The video is very simplistic. The girl singing with Damien sounds like a mix between Norah Jones and Natalie Merchant.

Got the CD for Christmas... I haven't even listened to the whole thing, but I've yet to be disappointed in anything I've heard. And it's one of those things where you can just have it on as background music, and something will come and immediately catch your ear... and have you go "what WAS that?"

Speaking of... I don't know what this bonus track is at the end of the CD, but I'm liking it.

It was one of those CDs where I liked a couple songs a while back and decided to take a chance on getting the thing, not knowing if I'd like it or not. I seem to be fairly successful most of the time I do that... at least recently.

On Christmas Day, while listening to this CD, I was thinking "damn, he'd be pretty good to see live, I wonder if he's coming out this way". Well... I'm SO. DAMN. STOKED. to see he's hitting The Commodore (!) in Vancouver on March 30. He's also at the Avalon April 17th for someone else reading this thread. ;)

Too bad there's not been a little more interest in this guy, at least on this board. I just saw him live tonight... and let me just say... HOLY CRAP what a show. His set was about an hour and 50 minutes... and it was all amazing. Lisa Hannigan is also incredible live... at times I got more chills from her voice than Damien's, and he's got a killer voice in his own right. Of course I'm a geek and ALMOST cried. But not quite.

So if you get the chance to do so (I think it's a no-minors tour unfortunately, at least this one was), see him. EASILY the best bang for the buck concert I've been to, and perhaps the best concert period.

And there was an Irish band called The Frames that opened for them... anyone familiar with them? They were great as well, and I'll probably buy a CD or two of theirs soon. Plus a couple of their guys played/sang on a few Damien songs at the end.

I absolutely love damien rice... his music is so special to me, everyone should check him out! there is a great flash site where anyone can go and listen to his whole album and watch some live performance video's. Definately worth checking out if you like beautiful emotional acoustic rock.
