For the record, I've had one singing lesson which went terribly and since then my teacher's been ill. I'm pretty much as inexperienced as they come. :)
Here's a song I started recording, and I've pretty much abandoned making it sound nice: ever dream (nightwish) (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9B9Z7NB2)
The volume, reverb and everything fucked up on that.
I'll post some better things when I have more time. I'll also post a better range of stuff, because I wouldn't say those songs are as suited to my voice as they could be.
EDIT: I'd really appreciate some feedback too, if anyone's actually reading this. Any sort. Pleassse. :)

I wasn't able to listen to the second track, but based on the first one, you have a good voice. You remind me of an opera singer. You should start getting training again, because you have the potential to be a very powerful singer.

Thanks very much for the very kind comments. I've never had any classical training and only picked up what I do know by listening to opera singers and reading things online. I'm joining a choir soon, which to be honest, scares me to hell and back, but that's the main thing at the moment... I need to get over my nerves and insecurities.
It really means a lot for you to listen and comment. Thanks veryveryvery much.
Btw did the download not work on the second or did you just not have time to listen to it?
By the way if any trained singers listen, could you tell me if the upper register of my voice sounds normal? It's comfortable to sing in... but it always sounds very sort of pinched and annoying to listen to. I want to know if I can avoid doing that, or maybe it's to do with breathing.
EDIT: damn I can't get cry for the moon to work now. *fails at technology* I'd also like to see something else about ever dream - at the end the volume goes really crazy, that's not me singing funny, that was audacity being wierd. ;)

It wouldn't open and it kind of sucked anyway because I did it all rushed in one take.
More stuff up over the next week. I'm working on an epica song and some evanescence stuff. If I can lug my keyboard about a bit I might be able to record an echo and the bunnymen cover but it all depends if I get a whole day to myself to clutter up the house, ;)
EDIT: Here's a rough Dance of Fate (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MGMPSJ13). I was losing my voice when I recorded it so it's more for comparison when I get the final version up.

i've just listened to everdream, and i'll say that if you've had no classical training or so on, you do have a LOT of potential with your voice. I have a friend who has a voice similar to yours , and she has had singing lessons since she was 6 and has a diploma in music and grade 8 singing, so you have a lot of talent. I think the only criticism i have to make is that it began a little bit weak, but as you said on my thread, that might be lack of confidence, and that can easily be improved by practice. You have a lot of power behind your voice and you use it well and control it.
:D

Just a FYI to anyone who hates megaupload, I reuplaoded ever dream to rapidshare:

That really means so much to me. :D Yeah most of my issues atm are self confidence, but I'm really trying to fix them. I'm still wickedly nervous about choir tommorrow.
I'm currently LOL-ing at the naffness of dance of fate. Oh the joy of one take badness.

This last one sounded good, but also kind of like you didn't have as much breath support and you weren't singing out as much as in the first track. But singing out will come with practice and as you gain more and more confidence in your voice. I agree with morganna in that you have amazing potential. It's really good that you're joining a choir, because you'll learn to perfect your sound.
And hey, if it sounds pretty good already, think of what kind of change a little bit more training will do! You'll be stunning =).
EDIT: Oooh, Choir's tomorrow??? That's so exciting! =D Be sure to post and tell us how it went when you get back =P

I'm going to improve that song, and then I'll post the finished result. It sucks at the mo because I did all the vocals in one take, and I think that was the day I was kind of losing my voice. The final one will be better. ;)

Yeah... it's only a rock choir, not a chamber choir or anything like. But I'm still REALLY TERRIFIED. :p

Well I have confidence in you! :p
And I've never been in a rock choir... I've been in a jazz and like classical/everything, but never rock. In fact, I didn't even know rock choirs existed until you just mentioned it. Haha, that sounds so cool! I want to join one.

Choir was REALLY FUN! It had such a relaxed atmosphere and a lot of people were as nervous as I was. I totally signed up for it... Really excited about doing it more often.
btw Cyle a rock choir doesn't mean singing rock songs in case you were wondering, it's sort of like a more... performance based choir. We'll sing gospel songs and musical numbers rather than classical stuff. Which is nice for me, who doesn't have a trained voice.
I also recorded a new song just now. I'm really happy that I finally managed to get JUST ENOUGH reverb on.
Btw it starts shakey because I couldn't for the life of me get the timing right.

I'm glad your choir class went so well!! =D And haha, I didn't really know what a rock choir was, so thanks for the explanation.
I liked 'My Pledge of Allegiance;' You sound like an opera singer. I've never really known people who could sing so strongly that high before. In the other song, 'Deep Silent', your notes seemed off or flat in a couple of places, but most of it was really nice to listen to! :D :p

Wow... I really don't know what to say. You have a great voice, it's so powerful and beautiful and... Oh, though I don't like Nightwish, I liked the song because you voice is more... tender, than Tarja's. That's my opinion. I think that you can really be an opera singer. Great job!
Now I'll have an ideal for practising. Thank you for idea, I'll use some Nightwish songs and I'll remember your covers - I want to sing as good as you. Super!

Thanks. Coughing was from singing so much through my throat, so loudly and so high, giggling was from the fact I found it funny that I coughed.

I should really stop sounding like an opera singer shouldn't I? I'm sure one day my voice will just go "I've had enough of this *diesdiesdies*." Ah well, choir will help me with confidence then I can get lessons again. Have you heard the original version of my pledge? The singer is Floor Jansen and she is Amazing! She can even do it live.
Yeah Deep Silent Complete the "ahhhhh" parts always seem really unbalanced, and I always seem to scoop (as in I don't hit the note cleanly I slide up or down from the note I've just sung) so I'm working on that. I made a conscious effort to try and not emulate an opera style when I was singing the lyrics. I'm really trying to work to correct my pitch problems, and also have a bigger lower range. :)

I might get classical training one day... the thing is though, it's such a thing to commit to. And, lol, don't aim to sing like me, my technique is awful! :p Thanks for the very very kind words though. :)

Thanks XD. No I've never had training. The one singing lesson I had I don't count because I was too nervous to learn anything. I think the timing thing is down to audacity, because I'm sure I'm hitting the beats at the right time. I read on the FAQ on audacity's site that this can sometimes happen, but you have to move your vocal parts about yourself, and it just makes it worse when I do that.
Oh wow, your voice is really beautiful!
Thanks Seph. :)

yeah, i agree with the others- you do have the opera style voice without being too powerful for what your voice can handle, and without being too in your face.
I loved pledge of allegiannce because of this, you get it perfect, and your voice is so strong considering the pitch, the giggle/cough was cute too hehe :D
i love the work, keep it up, i want to hear more! and wth a bit of perfection you could go a long, long way

It's so encouraging to hear all this. I'm kind of thinking... I'm starting a new college, no one has to know that I'm nervous. I could just keep with choir and volounteer for a solo one day.
I may not be able to put anything new up for a while because everyone's home at the moment, and I'm also having a bit of trouble sleeping so I'm sorta... too tired to sing.
Btw I was number 19 in the karaoke contest. I shouldn't sing evanescence... Amy's voice is too cemented in my mind so I can't sing in my own style.:p

I have an a'capella song up on my purevolume (http://www.purevolume.com/binarysonnets). It's two for tragedy by (surprise surprise) nightwish. I'm kind of proud of it, since all I'd done was sung along with the music once, then recorded. I got off a couple of times (because a'capella is hard, damnit) especially on the high note which didn't turn out the way I think it should have done - it went all crappy because I sang it too loud as well.
I also breathed too much. I don't even need to sing it like "line *breath* line *breathe*" but I always get paranoid I'm going to run out of breath.
I'd appreciate your comments as always. :)

New song - Angels fall first. I sang it non operatically, and pretty softly and added some reverb and echo and I think it turned out quite nice. It was recorded pretty spontaneously - I just got home from college and found myself home alone for a couple of minutes, so I just whipped the mic out and recorded it. I didn't stop and start during it, and that was the first attempt at recording that song.

I lubs all your recordings. :) Yes, you do go off-key sometimes, but not too often. And it's most important that you are aware of when you don't get it right, and work to fix it. With some adequate vocal training, you could do great things with that pretty voice of yours. It's so soothing, I love the sound of it.
And Angels Fall First sounds truly beautiful. It's a bit too much reverb/echo for my liking, but it does work well here. It sounds really calm and pure. :) Good job.

1stly you guys rock for replying. :) I have so much more confidence that I used to. Nyx, I can actually feel myself going off key a lot of the time when I do it. I do notice myself doing it. ;) Thanks for liking my voice. This makes me very happy. And because of people like you who do like my voice, I don't mind if other people don't. I'm feeeeling good. :)
Red just rocks in general. ;)
I'm seriously thinking of recording some Muse songs. The low notes sort of screw me over, but I'm SRSLY working on not letting them. If anyone has an instrumental version of New Born (I song which I love so much it hurts) I would WILDLY appreciate it.
