Okay... So who's coming to our shows next Friday and Saturday (6/6 & 6/7)? It's gonna be a lot of fun...It's changed a little from the last post -- we're headliners now! Yay!:D Tickets are $5 at the door and we're doing two sets each night. Show starts around 8ish each night. And our sets are longer now...More songs, INCLUDING my new favorite DH song ever: "Well Well Well"

Speaking of "Well Well Well," this Sunday, they're going to play our song on Razor's Edge Live on 100.3 The Edge!! :D :D I think the show is at 6pm. From what I understand, there's an interview, too. Take the Main St exit from I-630. It's on the other side of the interstate from Juanita's. Go down Main St till you get to Capitol (which should be 5th St, but it's just called "Capitol"). Make a left and go down two blocks. Bongos is on the left. There's a red awning on the building. It's right next door to Downtown Music.

Most of the bands around here ARE of a hard rock variety. There's a lot of talent around here. From what I understand, labels are kinda sniffing around here because Ev is so huge. Lick ROYALLY screwed us over on Battle of the Bands. We got there and they'd already gone home.

Still don't know what we get for placing in The Edge's BotB.

Last night, we were played on Razor's Edge Live. They played "Pornstar." I was excited.

Next year, we get to open for Alice Cooper, and they're thinking maybe Audioslave.

Lick told a friend that they were gonna "make it up to us" and let us open one of their shows, but they haven't said anything to US about it.

Wow, I haven't been to this thread in awhile.

In case anyone is interested, we're almost finished recording our album. Hope to have it done by March 1st. I think it's going to rock. Some people have heard some of the songs and we've had excellent feedback.

I'll try to upload a preview song sometime soon. If you ever heard "Defunction" from the IUMA site, the new version is a billion times better.

We have this one song called "Crucified" that has been stuck in my head for two weeks. It's one of the first ones where I wrote the bassline by myself. Go me. I'm getting better at the writing thing. :)

So hopefully we'll have new shows to go along with the new album. I ordered more stickers for the band, too. I think we still have some of the "Do you know Dean Heathen" ones.

Just wanted to update, since I haven't for awhile. I think Chuck revamped the deanheathen.com (http://www.deanheathen.com/) site, too. So...go there.

The "Crucified" song I was talking about got a new ending tonight.

Chuck has somehow managed to make himself sound like a full gospel choir. Then he added Brooke in over it and she's a big part of the "choir," too. It sounded so cool. I left practice hours ago and the song is still in my head.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer. I'll keep everyone posted. :D

When we sell enough singles. We're selling them to raise money to get the full CD pressed. That stuff's expensive. So that's why we're doing the single thing first. We're almost finished recording. We just have to finish mastering and I have to do the artwork for the liner notes and we're good to go.

We were invited back to Vino's for a July 3rd show with First Place and Thirteen X. Between the Second was supposed to play, but they dropped out. Apparently each band playing that night has at least one female (ours has two).

New show added!

We were invited back to Vino's for a July 3rd show with First Place and Thirteen X. Between the Second was supposed to play, but they dropped out. Apparently each band playing that night has at least one female (ours has two).

Do you guys play Juanita's often? How do they go about booking? We want to do a show there, but aren't sure how to get on the lineup.

The Bluesdawg gang was in the house Saturday night for Dean Heathen's performance at Rookie's. The band is based in Little Rock and their sound is what I'd describe as alternative/hard rock. I was especially impressed with their original material and they added a few covers (Incubus-"Megolomaniac", Nine Inch Nails- "Head Like A Hole", among others) to create a great show. The music was tight and technical, and the singer (who bears a striking resemblance to Kevin Bacon) was doing a damn good job of belting out his vocals. I really enjoyed the show and would definitely go to see them again. When Dean Heathen comes back to El Dorado, go see them, you will not be disappointed. We need more of this type of band in ElDo! Someone who will play more original material not just covers.

I saw Flud last night and my take was split. I was impressed with the uniqueness of their music. They put together chords and rhythms that break free of the norm, sometimes using notes that don't fit in the scale but still somehow sound good and sometimes changing the rhythm out of the standard 4/4 without making it sound dumb. The biggest part I didn't like was because it was far too loud and the music sounded muddy and convoluted. The mixing was off so a guitar blew out the keyboard and that wrecked the sound. The only time I heard the keyboard was when it was the only instrument playing. Even the bass guitar covered the keyboard sound. Everything was much louder than the vocals so they didn't stand out the way they might have needed to. In a much larger room it might have sounded better but not in a small place like Rookies.
I'd like to hear them either outdoors or in a much larger room because the acoustics were really bad last night and I imagine it would sound completely different if the sound had room to travel, or sound completely different if they turned it down a few notches. Louder is not better. This band has a lot of potential and will be looking forward to future shows.

Hey Goth...that first band with the keyboards was Dean Heathen and you're right, the sound wasn't quite right. I'd love to see them again in another venue or with the sound corrected because their original stuff was quite good.

The sound was out of our control, since our keyboards and my bass were using direct input into the board, but aside from that, the reviews were good.

That makes me so happy.

And the money we got means that I think we have enough to get our album printed now! :D :D :D We've been saving for almost a year.

I got a compliment last night, too. Luke the drummer's uncle was there with Luke's dad. After the show, his uncle came up to me and said he really liked my playing style. He said he's been doing this (playing music?) for a very long time, and while I'm not the greatest bass player in the world, he thinks I'm really, really good.

Which is cool, considering I've never taken a bass lesson before. Totally self-taught. :)
