I'm starting a new thread in here...
I don't know if there was any other threads of DP before, but I did checked and haven't foud anyone...so...
Deep Purple, along with the well known Led Zeppelin, constituted the idea of Hard Rock. Hits like Black Night, Hush, Child In Time and Smoke On The Water with its terrific riff led Deep Purple to an amazing amount of success in the U.K and America. The Band has just recently celebrated their 25th Anniversary and they are still going strong.
Actually, they're lead guitar... Steve Morse, has been the best guitar player for 5 years in a row, but few years ago, he stopped to compete with the others guys just to give them a chance of winning, too. :p
They're an old band, but a great one.
If you like the classic and the good old rock, you HAVE to listen to Deep Purple.

*flips out* I love Deep Purple! Child in Time, Black Night, and Soldier of Fortune are like my favorite songs ever!
And if you happen to like Ritchie Blackmore, the genius behind "Smoke on the Water", then http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=26481 <-- Ritchie's new band (thread)

Yeyy... lol
My parents liked DP, too....
It's a very old classic rock band... but the songs are just perfect... it's the beggining of all rock music, so that's why it's so important to me. :)
Smoke on the Water I think it's the most famous song.

"Made in Japan", "Fireball" and "In Rock" have been my favourite albums ever since. To say the truth, "Fireball" was one of my very first albums, I've got my LP copy still... awww...
By then, I was immediately struck by how good Ian Gillan's voice is and always excited listening Highway Star, Child in Time or Smoke on the Water even today.

I know what you're saying. His voice is amazing.
In my opinnion Deep Purple always was a terrific band, but after Morse joined the band... there's no other like them.
This band is just amazing.
I have just 2 CD of theirs... but I love them.
I wanna buy they're dvd someday...

No argument on Steve Morse as an unbelievable guitar player but the Deep Purple most of us remember was driven by Ian Gillan's voice and Richie Blackmore's guitar. Songs like Smoke on the Water, Highway Star and Space Truckin' from Machine Head (and elswhere My Woman From Tokyo and Hush) enshrined the classic Deep Purple sound. The original head bangers!!

I think that's a riff that every learning guitarist start out playing. Even if they don't know who the hell Deep Purple is.
