I've been busy singing all sorts of covers the last month or so. Some are crappy, others aren't too bad. Mostly it was fun and I wanted to share.

http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=368625&T=8261

Two new Ev covers added today.

I'm planning on songs by Jewel, Kelly Clarkson, Martina Mcbride and many others. I also take requests *sounds like a freaking lounge singer*(don't I wish). If I can find the instrumental I'll happily try my hand at it.:D

I take criticism well, and expect lots of feedback. If ya listen please say something. Good bad or indifferent. I haven't sang alot lately so I'm a bit rusty.:p

A story of two people who accidentally meet on a busy street one day, look into each others eyes and realize they were
once lovers forced apart in another lifetime.

Soul promise

Our lives passed all too quickly. Then you were gone.
Oh how I loved you so completely but I was told it was wrong. So long ago. (I remember)
What should be just another face in the crowd is bringing me to my knees,
begging destiny please just let this be some big mistake.

Chorus

Then I saw your eyes. So familiar, mirroring mine, Without streaming tears .Without forbidden shame.
I had to walk away.I knew you once, I can't know you again.
Eyes are an open window to your soul's truth, so a soul can't lie. I
saw my name etched into your life for a moment, just a mere glimpse of time.
I recognized you, my lost love.Do you remember me?

verse
Fate,Let me catch my breath just for second, it hurts to run so far ,so fast.
My sides ache ,knowing that this chase is fruitless, endlessly
I longed for something that could never be mine. How can it be different this time?
Then suddenly you' re there.
Drawn to you, I must run away. I risk undoing everything in
this world that I've done right. Not like before, not like that tragic night.
Yet my life's breath called for you everynight as I lay in the arms of another.

As if in a dream I seek you out just another face in the crowd with a heart I've known forever. It seems so crazy,
for we are mere strangers seeming to believe, we belong together,a bond that time has yet to sever. I can't pull myself away.
All these years they passed us by, found other loves to fulfill what we had promised to share in another liftetime.

Somehow we forgot but your soul did not. Nor did mine. Not ever. You take my hand and you whisper,I remember.

Cupcake
lyrics by Deinna Mello

I feel like I could cry a half a million tears but why?
Will it change anything profoundly ?
If I let these tears stream, its not like I find what my life really means.

So I suck it up, I keep my chin raised
I won't break
So I won't give in to the pain again.
No not again.

I feel like just throwing in the towel
Don't wanna live in this here and now.
Will it change things at all
If I suffer my defeat less gracefully.

I don't wanna feel so empty
Where is the filling in this vacant cupcake.
You want something from me I'm not willing to give away.

If I let these tears stream, it's not like I find what my life really means.

Repeat chorus

So I won't give in !!! Oh I fight to the end,
I refuse to break in two . Like you want to see me do.

Is there some kind of power in watching me crumble ?
Do you enjoy crushing all of my dreams.

If I let these tears fall does that mean you win?

Voices

chorus 1

Out, out damn thoughts
you aren't wanted here.

I need a piece of serenirty
to hold a mind that's pure.

Out , out damn voices
you give the worst advice
I can't make my own
decisions still
I needn't your blind.

assumptions, reasons, paranoia, treasons.
Chorus
Make it all go away just for a minute
don't betray the goodness that lies within
me.

Wrong so wrong but my strength is dwindling away.

Verse 2
Out, Out damned visions of
my wrists pouring deceitful trails upon the bathtub floor.

No matter how hard you push me I will not go there again.

Out, out damned voices you give me such retched advice
You tell me it would be so much easier if I weren't such a coward.
That it only hurts for just a few seconds.
I know better, I know better....

assumptions, reasons, hysteria, treasons.

Bridge
I just want to live my life without these voices. Voices.
No more questioning myself, no more wondering if . I will. fail.

Out, Out damn thoughts giving loathsome voices fuel for their fire.
When I think I want to hear silence, sweet and pure in its serenity.

So go away, I beg of you. I cannot stay listening. Shut up, Shut up.

WOW.

I had no idea you wrote lyrics...and I think they are very, very good. I love the emotions displayed, they are fearless and don't sacrifice great metaphorical description for getting a point across clearly. You are able to pull both off at the same time, which I could never do. Hehe.

I especially liked "Soul Promise" - I can kinda relate to that one, especially these lines:

I longed for something that could never be mine. How can it be different this time?
Then suddenly you're there.

It reminds me of (embarrassed) a time in my teenage years, but something that I went through nonetheless that has touched my life ever since.

But the last one, "Voices" is my favorite, as that one rings the closest to my own heart.

I need a piece of serenity
to hold a mind that's pure

Those words, along with the rest of them, are more close to the thoughts in my own mind than you know, or I can say. Really.

But not only because I can relate to them, your songs are just wonderful. The flow is amazingly well-done, which is especially hard to show others when writing lyrics because the music isn't being heard at the same time. A lot of times lyrics themselves look like badly-written poems when the music doesn't accompany it, but these haven't sacrificed flow for anything - and I would really love to hear the music to it as well. Hehe.

Seriously, I could talk about this all day but I'll spare ya. ;) But I would like to see more in the future.

Thank you so much. The one I relate to most is Cupcake right now. It's all about not being able to be perfect, beautiful, and capable of pleasing the ones in your world that demand it all the time. It's pretty much the story of my life atm.

<3. I liked "Anywhere" the best. I was hoping you'd stay more to the Amy Lee flow of BNM, which I think you did with Anywhere--I don't remember. But I know you wanted to "make it your own."

Your voice reminds me of a pixie's, were I to ever hear a pixie's lilt. You sound young. <3 vitality.

*plays role of AI judge* Initially I thought you were being a little conservative in your singing. There were a couple Amy Lee high note parts that I was looking forward to you doing in BNM, and I noticed you skipped a few. I don't know if that was stylistic or fear. ;D But there were a few moments in Anywhere in particular that I was like, :O, I guess she isn't afraid!

Good job. You go sell those other songs now. <33.

p.s. It's too bad that you aren't able to do better recordings. Maybe... Alarandiia... can hook you up? ;)

A pixie? Interesting comparison. Live my voice is alot richer even deeper toned.I get compared when I sing live to Christina, Whi I think when you record and don't have the know how to bring back those tones when you are editing and stuff it tends to sound pixie-ish.

The lack of high notes in BNM was by choice, not out of fear lol. I'm actually going to redo it in a few days, with the higher notes. I have not listened to EV in ages and did not know BNM perfectly to begin with but wanted to do my own version anyway based on the piano music I was singing with. I can sing opera if you are curious as to high my vocal range is.

The more I record and play with my software the better I'll get at it. :D However, I'd be thrilled for any tips anyone more skilled at that could give.
Thanks for listening and critiquing I appreciate it. <333

Mixcraft. I convert them to studio quality but for some reason I still can't get the proper tones or the scratchiness out. Still working on my editing skills, lol.
Also I have alot of natural vibrato so I need to make sure to not add much more digitally, it might be part of the quality issue. Need to play around with all that more. They are all very raw for the most part and hopefully over time I'll get better at it.

I took down BNM so I can redo the version. Will be adding more songs over the weekend.

I havn't ever used that.
What type of microphone are you using. and soundcard. Alot of quality issues rely on those things. I know my recordings sound decent on the home pc, but on the laptop they lack alot. even tho i'm using the same mic and program, the soundcard is different.

I use a mic/headphones combo that was about $45. I think it could be the soundcard because the place where I do all recordings is the laptop. The big computer is Cary's and he doesn't share well at all, lol.
I'm going to invest in a better soundcard here soon.

The quality of the recordings was not that big of deal to me really, it was more about just singing and having fun. :D. I don't think my voice sounds that bad, just not as refined as it could and the recordings are a little crummy because I was too lazy to do all the editing necessary on the ends of them for the most part.

once ya'll get up on your feet..radio shack has some good mics. A good soundcard for the laptop is the creative audigy 2 zs. I have one but havn't gotten to use it yet.

Thanks so much! The mic I have is actually really good but I do definitely need a new soundcard. The speakers on my laptop suck sooo bad as it is. I can't listen to any media without it sounding shitty.

My husband has the cadillac of gamer's systems set up in his office but as afore mentioned it is his, he is very protective of it. It's got so many extras its a crime! I can only dream about how good my recordings would sound coming out of that set up.:p

When he goes back to work...sneak on it!!

Or, if that fails, just tell him you're going to use it - and if he doesn't like it, then he won't be getting any...*ahem* bonuses. Until further notice. :)

I don't even know his system's password(by my request). I think if I ask him nicely he'll let me use it as long as I take all my recording software off when I'm done.

Sick in my Skin

-Deinna Mello

I wrote this in about 10 minutes after a major feeling fat, PMS breakout day. Kinda an exaggered version of how damn
fed up I am with all the magazine fakeouts of perceived beauty.

Sick in my skin, wanna rip it away.
This shape that I'm in doesn't make me ok.
Perfection is everything but from those lines I stray.

Tragically blemished and so damn marred,
can't I be just as flawless as they are?
I don't wish to be real. It hurts to feel this way. All the time....

Sick in my skin wanna wash the reality away
Jagged blades of demons nails rip at every fiber and pore.
I peer in the mirror so often hoping I'll look different than before.

Insecurity is my enemy
Where is my reprieve from
all this beauty seeking

Sick in my skin, going under the knife again
can you tweek this, erase that.
suck a few more pounds of fat.

I'm looking for filler to replace what's missing
where it really matters.
If my outside is pretty will you care that my innards are
all in tatters.

I wanna be the perfection I see in every magazine
Wanna be the the new sensation of my block, you see

Sick in my skin, can you be my prescription
to cure what ails. Cut them demons' nails.
__________________________________________________ ____
Just wallowing in the old misery tonight, lol. Husbands can be very insensitive and this song is inspired by that, its kind of a work in progress.

Defeated
-Deinna Mello

Aren't you supposed to be the one who makes me feel
good about myself?
Aren't you supposed to say I'm wonderful everyday?
Aren't you the one whose supposed to be in my corner
instead of always putting me in my place?

Aren't you supposed to love me unconditionally
every piece and every part.
Body, soul and this breaking heart.

Chorus
Why can't I have the courage to stand up and say I quit
Why is it I've stuck thru it all, even the worse of it?
I don't expect to be worshipped or treated as some hero
But why is it so many times you make me feel less than zero?

Aren't you supposed to be my private cheering squad
Instead it seems like we are always at odds.
Nothing I ever do is right, or close to good enough.

Repeat chorus

Jeez, Have I been missing out. I never usually come into the covers forum section...and now I'm glad I did. Anywhere is beautifully sang Deinna. I couldn't really hear your low voice all too well on the harmonising. Was that you singing the high bit as well as the low bit? prerecorded I mean?
Usually I always listen to covers and think..
'Why is this person trying to pull this song off when it's something only Amy can pull off?!'
I didn't think that at all when listening to your cover of Anywhere. It really was beautifully sang :)

Yeah its all my voice.I sang the low part of the song all the way thru, recorded it and then added the higher stuff to the second track late.Tho I've sang since I was 6, I have not been singing harmony for all that long. I was always first or second soprano, and once in awhile alto in choir when the needed a stand in. I also did tenor too but again, not on a regular basis so I say harmony is not my strong suite just yet.

I need to remix with the lower vocal's volume turned up just a bit higher and repost it. As afore mentioned I am a shitty at this recording stuff. One of these days if I ever have time again I plan to redo Breathe no more too. It was up for a couple days but I was not as happy with it.
Thanks for the kind words. Anywhere is one of my favorite Ev songs to sing!

I think you have talent, and I understand that your recordings sound rough because of using the onboard audio card. If you want some tips or help with recording just shoot me a message.

Here check this out. http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackUSB-main.html

Its a USB interface and fairly inexpensive, and should help you with your recordings.

P.S. That hiss in the back ground is from boosting a low level signal. In raising the audio signal, you're also raising the Noise Floor.

I loved your anywhere cover the most.to be brutally honest, it brought tears to my eyes- but definitley in a good way. The piano goes so well with your voice- it's gentle and kind and does the song justice in a unique way. I love your voice because it's so different- unlike so many, you don't try to make your voice exactly like Amy's, you keep the style your own and really show off a good range of vocals.
