Ok, here's a copy of the e-mail I sent him.

Thomas, I must say I enjoyed your petition and excellent grammar/spelling. That was the best laugh I've had in quite a while :) I'm sorry but congress doesn't have the legal authority to stop id (lower case) Software from releasing this highly anticipated game no matter how many misinformed individuals sign your petition. First, let me say that I am a very strong Christian and the last thing I want is something that would blot out the message of the Gospel. However, I have fond memories of the original Doom back in the early nineties and it in no way magically transformed me into a satanist. The game is purely fantasy, seeing that demons are not physical beings who can be destroyed by man-made weapons. Also, please note that this game does NOT glorify the side evil (the invading monsters) but the side of good (the protaganist battling against the invasion). Finally, remember that no amount of censorship will stop the youth or adults of America and the rest of the world from finding ways to access what they wish. If something is morally wrong, the individual will have to make up their own mind about the subject. That's the idea behind witnessing/outreach/ministering. As for me, I remain strongly committed to God... and am highly anticipating August 3rd. :)

There's a website out there that wants to ban Doom 3. The reasoning they gave are just as funny as this petition.

Me too, although I watched the show a lot around when it came out. And I was in high school?...or just graduating middle school? I forgot. I was bored and all I had to watch was this 9" black and white tv with shitty reception and PBS was like the only channel I could get clearly :(

Anyways, it's funny how a lot of the signatures are laughing at the guy who made this petition in the first place. Plus, I like how he says:

Doom 3 will contain satanistic sympols witch our precious youth will see!
Aw, look at this attempt at trying to brainwash us :D

Big deal. I'm not a fan of Doom games but there's nothing wrong with them  it's a game and it's got an M rating anyways so.

Ha! I don't even get the grammar. I don't understand why anyone would even sign something like that...it's really informal. Anyway, I just think the whole prospect of it is stupid...it's like when people try to blame a band if their child commits suicide...yeah that's what it reminds me of.

I used to get in arguments with people in religious IRC chatrooms about doom shortly after it came out. I would defend it to the end. Of course, I was about 11 or so and my debating skills probably weren't that adequate. I thought I did a good job though. I've been waiting for doom 3 since... the Quake I days. (Way before it was announced) I remember thinking how awesome they could make a new doom game with the new polygon based graphics. I'm sure my soul will be absorbed by the computer when it comes out... hopefully it'll be released in time for me to go to the Ev concert in Little Rock.

Well, unless you're planning on building a killer PC to do the game justice, you should probably just get the Xbox version. I have a really nice PC, and I'm still upgrading my graphics card to get the best performance.

P.S. I'm actually hoping that this game will generate lots of controversy. The original Doom is STILL referred to as a posterchild for violence in video games; even though it's been over ten years. I just hope churches don't start jumping on it. That just makes more intelligent Christians look badly.:(

Thats probably what I'm going to end up doing, its impossible to upgrade my computer since its a laptop, and I really can't afford a new one. Theres no chance of my current computer running it, not even badly. The annoying thing is that the only thing that dosnt meet the requirments is my video card.

Yeah, the funny thing is- about 3000 of those signatures are unreal, fake, and Doom lovers proving what a stupid petition that is.

I posted. I love Doom. And if video game violence has had any toll on me, I want someone shoot me. The day that virtual entertainment violence takes over my mind is the day I wish to be shot.

I've been playing violent video games since I was 10 and I *twitch* am *twitch* all right.

Doom, in all of its pixilated glory, was bashed when it came out for being too violent. Somehow, dozens of bloodsoaked hollywood movies just flew under the radar like the Terminator movies, the Die Hard series, and many other various action films.

HL2.... *drools* can't wait.

When Doom 2 came out, I blew up 2 churches.

Oh, and here, i'll give you a few "satanic" and un-God-ish games I play and enjoy:

Silent Hill 3: You play as the mother of God; You fight God; You kill God.
Silent Hill 1-3: Reincarnation, references to God
Fatal Frame 2: Sisters must kill each other to please the God(s).
Devil May Cry: DEVIL May Cry. A half-demon saves the world. Ironic?

BloodRayne: The only game I've played where I see limbs and gore fly in slo-mo. <---Referring to the violence.

And movies like Terminator series, where judgement day and the apocalypse is by man/machines.

As far as any of those go- I havent seen a petition or anything bashing those games. And Slipknot still exists. There are 666s and pentacles at their concerts. Oh well. The petition wont change anything. e.e Im still glad and anxious for Doom3.

Hey! Seriously, after reading some of those comments posted on the petition, I'm getting a bit pissed at all the God-dissing going on. How would they like it if someone came up and started talking like that about their dads?

This is also why I'm ticked at the maker of the petition; he put Christians in a REALLY bad light.:( There are misinformed people in any group or organization. Oh, well. *Waits for Doom3:D *

I fail to see how an M rated violent game is "anti-God." Even in real life, violence can be unfortunately necessary. If someone tries to take your life, it's not a sin to defend yourself for crying out loud! War can also be necessary when it comes to another government who is threatening the saftey of the world. The Old Testament is full of accounts of the ancient battles the Israelis encountered.

Hey you should look at this page>> http://www.guru3d.com/newsitem.php?id=1708 before you buy the ATI, Nvidia is on the lead this time. The reason Nvidia's card did best on Doom 3 tests is because Doom is using OpenGL, at which Nvidia excels. However, most games use Direct3d, which ATI owns at. I have read countless tests comparing the two new ATI and Nvidia cards. ATI is still on top. The only advantage the Geforce has is Smartshader 3.0. ATI willingly left this out of the X800's design to have more transistors devoted to pure power and to make the card run cooler. In most cases, ATI is still ahead of Nvidia.

Machinehead

I am 95% sure that Nvidia and Id Software had a special deal going so that Nvidia chipsets would be the best thing to run Doom 3 on. Now that's just that one game, but still I do believe that the GeForce will win out on Doom 3. But that's at the extreme top edge of performance anyway. How many people's systems are going to be so good that it matters anyway? ATI and Nvidia will both run high end games with great results. I'm thinking the GF FX 5700 Ultra I have will make Doom 3 plenty entertaining.

My mental stabilty went out the window when i started playing the resident evil games. At this point, theres no hope of stopping the slow degredation of my brain into a salty, mushy heap of demon laced jello.

wrf? Trent Reznor didn't do the music? I thought that was a done deal when I heard that the game was in development. Details anyone?

Something tells me you're right lol. If you remember back to 2 years ago at E3, Doom 3 was running on ATI technology. Then, after the alpha demo's leak onto the net, id Software abruptly and mysteriously switched allegiances.

Ban Doom 3 because they got rid of Trent Reznor doing the music. Aw man. This is the first I've heard of this. I was really looking forward to his "soundtrack." They hyped it up to be so uber-creepy and all.

Yeah I totally forgot about that... I remember them getting in a big tiff over it because they were saying that ATI was responsible for the leak. Yeah I would switch allegiances too after that. I've always liked Nvidia better though. Works in my favor this time :)

The theme song wasn't done by Tool but by Chris Vrenna and Clint Walsh. Chris Vrenna was the founding member of Nine Inch Nails but left the band in 1996. He also the "composing" for the Doom 3 "soundtrack." From what I hear, it's going to be creepy, ambient stuff. As for the theme song, it sounds really Tool-like. If this ends up being a double post, then there's a glitch with the board software. Hopefully not.

I read all of this (http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQ0) site earlier and it proves to be very descriptive and informative. I noticed however that the minimum system has listed 384 MB RAM... I have 256 and I just bet it'll be my luck that it's insufficient. I really don't want to buy more right now because I'd have to buy PC2100 or 2700 ram and that's kind of old. I'd just have to throw it away in a year or so when I get a better computer. Anyone heard any different on the ram situation? Other than that I should be able to play it in high quality with no trouble.

cpu: AMD Athlon XP 2600 (333fsb)
memory: 1GB PC3200 RAM (dual channel)
video card: Radeon 9700 Pro (overclocked)
soundcard: Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro

That should be sufficient, but I'm still getting the X800 XT PE for a graphics card so I can run it at high settings. My current setup would run it on medium quality. Currently, there are no cards capable of running it (with good performance) in Ultimate mode. That requires a 512mb graphics card!!!

If you're wondering about your setup, here's an awesome guide to help you discover what your system is capable of: http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQ0

That's the same link I put in my previous post. :) Yeah after reading that site I figure I can play it in high settings pretty well... I just have 256 MB of PC2100 RAM. If I had a job I probably wouldn't be opposed to getting a new system right now. Currently I stand at Athlon XP 2000, 4x max AGP motherboard, GeForce FX 5700 Ultra, motherboard based surround sound... Aside from the GeForce I've got tv/radio hardware and a dvd burner for maximum rippage/video capabilities. All I would really need is new ram, motherboard and cpu. Bleh. Money. I'll figure something out.
