However there are so many losers with no lives around here that most of the time someone has already jumped on any new post like a starving shark on a really, really lost wildebeest. So I feel a little conflicted because the person reading it won't get to see what I changed.
There are a couple basic reasons why I edit posts.
1) Correct spelling/grammatical errors. (usually don't bother to let anyone know)
2) Make something clearer. (sometimes make a note if it's a big change)
3) Add a whole new concept that I just thought of, but double-posting is evil and nobody will fucking reply so I can just put in a new post (usually I make a note like "edit:" or something)
So my burning questions are these:
When is it too late to edit a post?
What are appropriate changes to make when editing a post and what should be saved for a new post?
What instances of editing should be marked, if any?
If nobody will fucking post so you don't have to double post, how long should you wait before just double posting anyway?
Discuss.

As English is not my mother language at all (but it's my dad one), sometimes I edit to correct the wording and make understandable some sentences.

When you try to edit your post about Moses crossing the Red Sea when the rest of folks are already talking of the men walking on the Moon.

Never, I just edited a post from like 7 months ago (around the time when I first started posting).
Grammical, spelling, you said something really dumb and now you need to go back on it..
None, it's my post. If someone hates your post enough, they should have quoted you. That's why I always do.
5 minutes, if nobdoy has posted anything yet, they never will.. er.
Editing posts can be fun, especially when you can fuck with people's minds. :D

lol...one time when I was a no0b, I posted about 4 times in a row...I'm surprised I didn't get rep points into the negative...I think it's okay to double post once in a great while if you feel like you have to.

I think it's okay to double post once in a great while if you feel like you have to. Well I think the space-time continuum would tear if I double posted, so I don't, as a matter of practice. ;)

LOL, The only time I think you should double post is when you are post an article that pertains to the subject of matter and the article itself it larger than the limit the post provides.

Ahhhh...It drives me absolutley insane when I make a post then go back and edit it, hit reply and then scroll up to see someone has already replied to it. It would be cool if your "quote" was automatically updated in there post.
Yeah, I'm not very good at debating but this topic intrigued me and that's my two cents. ;)

I think that you should edit your posts if you find a spelling error any time. I mean of course it isn't a requirement, however it i nice to be able to read something from start to finish without having to wonder what the person is really trying to say.
I also think that until a thread has ended, or lost it's appeal there should be no double posting, I don't think you can say, well it has been ten days so I can double post now. That would create an insane amount of double posts. Thats my two cents...

Something I was wondering about was the Your Stuff forum. Is it ok to double post in there if you have to?
ie. The last person to post in my thread is me, but then at some point later I have a new piece to add, but my thread is back where people are unlikely to see it.
I would usually wait a little while just to see if anybody has anything to post, but if it seems like my thread isn't being noticed, is it ok just to post a new thing in it?

It's funny that this came up here. There was a guy on anti-state.com who kept editing and deleting his posts because he kept losing arguments! Eventually he was banned, but the admin made a new rule that you can't edit or delete posts after an hour (I think). I agree with the decision--if people kept changing their posts for that reason, it would create gaps in the conversation that would make the thread pretty much unreadable.

Hey :)
I asked Syd and Gil and Syd told me that it was okay.
Yeah, stuff like that is okay, if it's been awhile.
