Ok, regarding Llywelyn's recent post on how to do this kind of thing, I'm going to try and be as helpful as I can.

For about the past couple of weeks, every day I've been receiving several junk emails to my hotmail account. And sometimes it's a lot, other times not so much. Now all I can figure is that some kind of spybot has got hold of my address and is constantly sending these out.
They all seem to be on the subject on notifying me of an email delivery failure, but I've hardly been sending anything anyway.

Here are some examples of what has appeared in the subject line:
Delivery Status Notification (Failure)
Delivery Bot
Failure
Server Error

The senders address always changes, here are some examples:
Mail Delivery Subsystem <MAILER-DAEMON@onramp.i95.net>
<support@rarsoft.net>
<jchason@earthlink.net>
<lrmills@usvi.org>
<ajm373@psu.edu>

Every one of them comes with an attachment, most of which are blocked by hotmail:
Hotmail has permanently blocked the following potentially unsafe attachment(s): msg23785.pif (0.04 MB)
Hotmail has permanently blocked the following potentially unsafe attachment(s): data7078.pif (0.04 MB)

You get the idea...

Also, here are a few examples of what the actual emails say:
Mail Delivery Error - This mail contains unicode characters

------------- failed message -------------

Partial message is available and has been sent as a binary attachment.

And one more:

I hope I've been clear enough, and I really hope that someone can help me in any way.

I'm sorry I can't help, but I've had the same problem. Last week I got about 20 emails saying "Delivery Failure" but they were messages I had never sent to people I didn't know. Weird. :\ I'm annoyed at how much junk mail I get at my hotmail account. It all gets filtered into Junk Mail, but I go through that folder to be sure nothing of value got tossed there. Anyway, I hope somebody can help you...

What it looks like is that a spammer is spoofing your email address to make it look like the spam is coming from you when it isn't.

They don't have access to your account, probably aren't even using hotmail's servers but their own, and there really isn't anything you can do about it but ignore it and delete the messages. :-/

That happened to my roommate using AOL. But somehow, the spammers were going through his account because AOL blocked him out, and he had to spend several hours over the course of several days on the phone with the AOL reps. I don't know if it was ever resolved. I think he just switched to hotmail. :cool:

It's probably not a good idea to post your email anywhere ... public.

Like a message board.

Bloodred:

Those emails are products of someone who has your email address in their computer being infected by a variant of the Netsky virus. It doesn't necessarily mean that your computer is infected, but if you are not running antivirus software, you should be, and now is a good time to start.

If you want to read more about the Netsky virus, you can click here (http://vil.mcafeesecurity.com/vil/content/v_101145.htm).
