Imagine something like Tristania and Haggard with some bit of Nightwish and, of course, some own style. That´s the best way I could describe

After hearing all their 9 songs, I got the conclusion they´re not just good. They´re not just awesome, they´re really really awesome. Best cd I´ve ever heard tied with Angels Fall First. There´s even a part with some Tony Blair speech against terrorism...

I would say Epica's music is classical and metal based Orchestral/Symphonic Power Metal.
There is a flash player on the main page of the site featuring three songs.
Yes the speech about terrorism is on the song façade of reality.

Epica is awesome, definitley worth checking out

Actually, I didn't. I use a regular Canon PowerShot G5, without any additional equipment.

The guy with the big lense is most likely Edwin van der Ende, and his material can be found at http://www.vanderende.net/. He's a nice bloke, and has given me several tips with regards to photography.

Still, it's nice to read that people like my work. Maybe we'll see each other at another Epica gig.

It's so shamefull... Last week I went to the heart of my city, where everything is very cheap, to buy some christmas presents, and there I found some "stores" that sells those CD's you would never find in a regular music store like Tower Records. I was very happy because I thought I could finally buy some CD's I don't have original. But then I see Epica's album, with a scanned and printed cover, the cd was completely burned... I couldn't believe it. I mean, I can believe those being selled in the streets, but in a store??... and... Epica??? :confused: I was truly dissapointed, and I, of course, didn't buy it. ¬¬

I've heard Force of the Shore, Trois Vierges, Solitary Ground, Black Infinity and all the parts of A New Age Dawns!My favs are Force of The Shore and Black Infinity but the one I think is more epic is Mother of Light!

Epica are my favourite band at the moment. I heard some of The Phantom Agony a while ago and have been tracking down all their songs since. I love Cry For The Moon and Feint, they're both so beautiful.

Gah, Cry For The Moon is aaalmost my fave Epica song, it's great! And Feint is really beautiful..
About the epic element and all... I find CtO more epic, and after listening to both albums several times now, I think it's better as a whole. The songs are more worked, every detail. In tPA, some songs seem too long for me because there are some boring parts. But it's a greaaat album however. :p This is all in my opinion of course. :D

Even Force of the Shore, which I didn't like as much at first, I now love so much! Even the intro is awesome (I love the epic intros that bands like this have. Like the intro to The Silent Force by Within Temptation!)

it is a very good band with a sound really very good, have a style paraesido to the one of nightwish but it parese to me that each one has its touch :D

well, it's got a little explanation for the DVD (why did they recorded it & so on), some of the pics u can find in the dvd, the tracklist (of course), a section called "Highlights of EPICA by Mark Jansen", the listing & the crew, & a very very cool part with drawings of each member of the band & a few questions to each of them :D

you have to have a program called WINRAR to unzip the file if its a .rar file. The program is free.

I may sound incredibly obvious, but the reason why it's so heavy is because is an SVCD, lol. In a normal format it shouldn't weight so much. Right now, I converted it do an DivX format and it's only 25 MB. The cuality is the same. Now I must find the way to change it into a normal format, lol xD.

That's cool, good for changing the format. Whenever I try to change video formats it takes like 3 hours to convert, even though my computer is pretty fast and stuff!

and wow (this has probably already been discussed but) the video version of Solitary Ground is COMPLETELY different! Its a whole new re-recordning of the song! Lots of changes, like more symphonic, more piano, longer intro etc. Even the vocals were rerecorded! Interesting...

Epica have been working on a soundtrack inspired by a Dutch movie entitled "Joyride." The soundtrack will be released by Transmission Records on September 8th, under the title, The Score: An Epic Journey.

According to guitarist Mark Jansen, The Score is "Typically Epica, Only without the singing, without the guitars, no bass and no drums..." Mark Jansen, together with Yves Huts and Coen Jansen are responsible for the greater part of the music. The Score is much more than simply Epica without the Gothic rock. The remaining orchestrations have been worked out into the most minute details with strong arrangements. As a result, The Score has become an extremely attractive album which will appeal to a far larger audience than just the rock aficionados. An album that might be regarded as detached from all the earlier Epica work, but also as the next logical step.

"Of course The Score sounds different from the earlier albums, on the other hand it is at the same time unequivocally Epica. For this reason we’re obviously releasing it under our own name. We are enormously proud of this album and we do not feel we have to confine ourselves to a certain genre."

"Collaboration is something Epica feels very strongly about. It is just like a colouring picture that you keep on making more beautiful with the whole group. Yves also contributes a lot of music, Coen takes care of the arrangements, subsequently I have some ideas and in this way, a project continues to grow. "To me, personally, it is an aspiration to reach that same level at some point in the future. They are the absolute top in their discipline and each and every member of Epica thinks of them as shining examples. Our dream therefore is composing the music for a Hollywood film at some point in time. Films such as Gladiator, Braveheart or The Last Samurai are projects to which I would have gladly contributed. Films such as these pre-eminently suitable for our music."

"I would like to write more scores, preferably intertwined with what we are doing with Epica. With The Score, we want to make a name for ourselves. Seems that the new single will be 'Quietus' (Aracnemorgana will be very happy, lol) and it'll be released in September (as The Score album and Remagine by AF... uuh, lots of money).
In the single there'll be the version of the song with grunts and more stuff. But what I want to see is a video for it! I'm curious about what they will do. :D

I agree. I was hoping they would release Blank Infinity as their first single, and thought it wierd that they released Solitary Ground. But will Quietus is awesome.

True. I think Solitary GRound would be alright as a second single. Don't bands like often release a heavier song first, then a slower song? Besides most of Epica's songs are more heavier, so Solitary Ground is like different.

Weird. Because Solitary Ground isn't a "commercial" song. I mean, people just don't litsen to piano ballads, unless the band is very well known. lol, I know because I did an experiment. I played it when I was working with some friends, and they just wanted to change it. They are not use to that kind of music and want to hear something that they know.

I don't think it would happen because of the grunts... . No, really. I know many bands that use grunts in almost all of their songs, but the singles are the ones that don't have them.
Take for example Epica with the last CD. Only 3 songs (with the excepion of Adyta) don't have grunts, and precisely 2 of 3 were singles. Interesting, taking into account that Cry For The Moon is in my opinion the song that everybody likes, and one of the best of the CD.

I know what you mean, but if it's really epic, and symphonic and stuff it would be awesome. Some filmscore is really cool, like the pirate of the carribean soundtrack. If they do it right it could actually be pretty good.

Of course I'd rather a normal Epica album, but this is still gonna be good I hope!

I'm currently training my voice for classical singing, and I still drink soda nad eat chocolate. Its best not to do it when you're practicing your vocals, but they say everything in moderation.
Then again, Simone is the professional, you should probably listen to her. :p *would never be able to sing like her*

Kinda odd, but kool. I have no clue why they modeled the shirts there, but they did. Sad part is that there are hardly any Epica shirts there.

anyway, i finally heard consign to oblivion :D twice in fact, as well as the phantom agony which i posted about a while back. i love them both!

i like all of the songs from cto really, which is rare. my fav epica song is still the phantom agony though, even if the video's different with half the song cut out lol (i've seen instrumental parts get cut out for radio edits before, but that's nothing compared to this song!).

The other day, watching the WWTYWU *checks if she has done it right, lol* dvd I understood what's the video about! It is about these women that were killed because people said they were witches (the so-known story hehe). So it makes sense.. Simone is in one of those torture-machines that they used to make them confess. And the soldiers are dead at the end of the video because she made a spell or something, I guess, lol.

Alsp,from what I got,they were throwning the "witches" int water chined and if they were saved they were innocent but if they dive down,which that was happening,they were witches!That's why Simone is underwater and drown!

I was like "ohh boy.... what the hell is this video about". But then I figured it out it was the damn page :D . Very funny if you think about it.
The video is so sad :( . But I didn't like the actress. I mean, at the begining she's just incredibly fake. And those cries.... come on, wtf, the band could of find a better one. The daramatic touch is given by the song and the band's attitude. Juaz, and the camera at the ending that flies away from simone and shows all the cathedral. Wow, that's my favourite part.
