My reasons are, that you can do a lot there for very little, it's full of lots of things to do, lot's to sightsee, it's a huge tourist destination, history, and I very highly doubt now that I'll be able to leave the UK next summer as I'll be taking a full time job, so voting for Barcelona would be a misleading waste of time.

I voted for Barcelona because I think it's more addient for the first party as My Immortal was shot there and several people would like to see it. There are also lots of things to do, cool pubs, it's a beautiful city, and in my opinion everyone will find something to have fun there, whatever it is.
Also because London is kinda expensive. I know there are cheap flights but Barcelona is an aeroport with several low prices companies working, too.
There's good weather and beach (if anyone likes it, me doesn't, lol).
There have to be more reasons but I'm hungry. (what means I cannot think very well :p)

i have no idea how much it'd cost to stay in barcelona or what people would want to do there, so i'll have to stick to what i know and vote for london. i know there are a lot of good places to go to, and the travel expenses will be cheaper for me. the accommodation really isn't that expensive if we all share a room, which will be fun anyway, playing music and all!

fwiw, i think we could delete this topic and have a new one where we only post about the locations, as i mentioned before. i.e. a place name, whereabouts it is, how much it costs, etc. or accommodation, what it's like, the price, website links, etc.

so we do that before deciding on the place we're going to, meaning we know the place we're going to has better things to do than the other.

then after that, have a poll between the two cities, basically the same as this thread, with a link to the proposals thread telling people to take a look at that first. or we just keep it in the same thread, meaning people will have read through it all hopefully, and if they're that interested they won't need a new topic to know they need to vote again.

that's my opinion, anyway. i'd be interested to hear what others think, although i'd guess those who've voted for barcelona and can't make london won't want anything to change, but personally i might be able to make either so i'd like to be able to make the right decision!

and i thought we were meant to be looking at a date poll before the final location poll anyway? and how long do people want to go for? that's another thing to be taken into consideration, especially financially.

we have plenty of time to plan this, we don't need to rush into deciding anything. nearer the date a few people may not be able to go, which could actually put the losing location in the lead. there's a long way to go yet, lots of things could change with people's situations.

c'mon, let's get this done properly guys! hopefully we can get what's right for most people.

So, I suspect the best thing to do now, is to get those city profiles writen fast, ask phoenix fires to suspend the poll (edit first post with a warning) until those are up (say, 3 days to write the profiles?), then post the link to each profile and ask people to read before deciding.

I'm still undecided, though I'm more inclined to Barcelona Ev-wise, London looks great to visit (haven't been there). I know London can be _really_ expensive because of the accomodation.

It's clearly understandable that people, who live in the UK or near, vote for London and for the same reason another vote for Barcelona, and I highly doubt that it can be changed by any researches. Plus I don't think they're needed to prove that London is expensive.

If this meeting is arranged in the end, I have no doubt that there will be more, so the city that loses this year has all chances to be the next year’s place of meet (or automatically become this place).

It is probably the best city in the world. For £15 you can travel around the entire city on any form of public transport . There are a huge variety of different things to do and the majority of tastes can be catered for. There are some legendary landmarks that many people would i'm sure love to be able to see. You can even see the queen drive past sometimes and she waves :) . Many football stadiums as well as other top sports clubs. Rock pubs/clubs aplenty. Some very friendly locals . Cheap accomodation can be found and wherever it is its easy enough to get to.

Basically whatever you want to do chances are you will be able to do it in London

I know the further out you go the more they charge but I'm pretty sure a 1-6 travelcard only cost about £6-7 at most, and no one would really need a 1-6 travelcard unless they decided to stay somewhere around the M25.

My vote goes to London because there is so much to do. From West-End shows to water-sports.

It's not half as expensive as people make it out to be. You've just got to keep you're eyes open, I mean sure if you buy something in somewhere like Harrods you're going to be hugely overcharged but if you look in normal shops (i.e. not ones that are obviously intended for tourists) you'll find everything at average prices.

And of course, with UK weather you're unlikely to have to spend half as much on sun-cream as you are in Barcelona :p

It costs me £15.60 but that is coming from Reading so i guess its charging the travel to London.

I voted Barcelona because I've been there once - and I've been to london many times. I live in the north of england so I'd rather go the extra distance to somewhere 'exotic' than to somewhere overly familiar.

Logistically Barcelona is better for everyone apart from people in the UK because anyone living in mainland Europe can drive there. Barcelona has an amazing gothic quarter, it has galleries containing art by the most significant 20th century artists, Dali, Miro, and Piccaso - the streets are clean - the weather is less prone to raining. Oh and it's also the architectural playground of Guadi.

I'd make a holiday of it that's for sure. Do the art thing, see the sites.
