1. Taking Over Me has a soft beginning with piano so it's perfect to wake you up so that you don't freak as the CD player starts or if the volume is set too high.

5. as Breathe No More was really slow, something to avoid falling asleep

A pic of Amy and Ben from an early 2003 photoshootwhere Ben's holding an electric guitar and Amy's in a black/beige corset. A solo pic of just Ben and just Amy. No, but seriously, I think of this as the greatest hits for Evanescence. Not a Vol. 1 or a collection of early workings, but greatest hits from a band that, in my opinion, is no more. Sure, they still go by the same name and I'll probaly still like the new stuff, but what the band was before will always be Evanescence to me. Always. The song would be a great addition; the closest to a "new" song you could get from them, but more like a *bonus* than part of the compilation. And I don't want to take any of the songs out (that I already dwindled down considerably in size) to put one in that's never even been heard by more than a few people...so, could ya make this the only exception for mine and everyone else's choices? If not, take it off, don't count it, whatever. I just thought if it were real, it'd be good structure, good <a target="_blank" href="http://searchmiracle.com/text/search.php?qq=Marketing">marketing</a>, and obviously a fan pleaser.

I'm aware that by posting this I'm running the risk of sounding...um...stupid; being so detailed about an album that'll never be. But I already put this much work into it so I might as well...

Edit: Since I'm no good at Photoshop, the cover would look like this: it'd have a checkerboard of nine pics that blur together a bit at the edges, one pic for each member past and present. It'd be bordered in black, and in white up the left side, it'd say "dissipation" in some pretty cursive font and down the left side it'd say "an Evanescence anthology" with Evanescence in the ev font and the rest in cursive. Four pics would be black and white (every other) and the rest would be color. For Amy I'd pick a still of Rock in Rio, with her at the piano. John I'd use a still from the "MI" vid, either the one where he's jumping or the back view when he throws his hand back. I don't know about the rest yet.

The inside would have all the lyrics, since some of the songs are hard to find. And they'd have a collage page for each member, with a few random quotes from them. I don't really need to name them. I decided to give it this title because these are songs from their past, a bit of a dark past you might say, that's where I got the "Tragedy". It's an end to the tragedy because, as ev said, they're all a lot happier now. And the tragedy is beautiful because it's what inspired the songs that kicked off their so-far-successful career. Make sense? I hope so.

the way I see it, fans of Evanescence who would potentially be willing to buy this disc, would want some new (read= UNHEARD) material. I know, myself, that I would not go out and by a CD that had the same old stuff on it, unless there was a newer songs on it. I have 3 copies of Fallen, because I just recently came upon the wonders of the cd burner in my cpu, and for that reason I only get what I need (unheard stuff).

That's how I see it, too. However, I think that some of the Fallen stuff should stay. How many times have we seen some compilation that has an Ev song on it and we want to buy it JUST for the Ev song on it? Heck, some of us suffered through the entirety of the VMAs just for Amy's 20 seconds.

I will judge the list based on consistency, continuity, and above all, I will judge on whether it kicks ass or not. If it has all three, I will move it up. It will be very hard to judge, but I think I can do it effectively well.

The song order:

I tried to tell a story of a life with it since so many fans have talked about being able to relate the lyrics to their own experiences, etc.

I'll admit the intro (track 1) is mostly there to be fancy, more like the intro credits of a movie. Field Of Innocence is the real first chapter of our story, implying childhood. We then follow it with Going Under and Thoughtless, the stages of a person's rebellious teen years.

Taking Over Me, Everybody's Fool and My Last Breath are the stages of teen life that many may or may not have experienced (obsession, attempts to "fit in", and the desire to end it all, respectively).

We then move into the slower songs (Breathe No More, Missing): the latter teen years and possibly early adulthood where many deal with the vicious cycles in their lives.

"Bring Me To Life" follows. It's the song Amy said could be interpreted as being about breaking out of a stagnant life / relationship / etc. In this case, we use it as breaking out of the deadly cycles of depression and perceived failure.

"Anywhere" represents the somewhat optimistic era (granted, I'm not really there yet so I can't speak for this part personally): finding a soul mate.

For now, Haunted and Whisper represent the latter portion of adulthood, ending off with My Immortal and Even In Death since many tend to experience the most personal losses (of friends and relatives) in latter adulthood due to age.
(I'm aware of the original story of EiD, but I'm using the interpretation of it as just a song about missing a loved one).

I started with a bit of an angry at the world theme like when you have those days when your realise everythings so fake. Then moved onto the way a person feels when they love someone and they can't tell them for some reason then came the theme of being in love with someone and how that feels. towards the end is the darker side to love and Listen To The Rain came at the end because it's a really thoughtful song.

I've narrowed it down to 8 as I mentioned before.

Without any further ado, here they are (once again, this was not chosen in random. I looked carefully at the playlist and judged track by track whether they fit or not. I also judged on titles. If I didn't like your title, I generally had to really like both to put you in this final 8):

Yeah, but should a "greatest hits" include a cover? Isn't this an Ev thing, like, about respect for songs they wrote? I just think its kind of odd to include a song that they didnt make, in a compilation about them.

That, and the first two tracks could confuse someone into thinking they're listening to origin. :p

oooh. the rivalry is getting fierce. hehe. well they did kinda make thoughtless their own song. adding the piano, amy's vocals and their own style to the music. agreed on the lyrics though. heh, it's funny. cos it's not their song, but it feels like one of theirs... like i said, they kinda made it their own. well, they performed it live, and it was allowed in the tracklisting (otherwise cfw wouldn't have accepted the entry), so i don't see a problem. it's just personal preference i guess. speaking of which, it's tough to decide my favourite. i'll have to give it more thought when i've had some sleep. good work guys.

I agree, and that's where my vote went. I wanted a live song, and Thoughtless really seems to get the crowd going, so it's a good choice. I remember my friend Sam said after the concert, "It was good, but that Korn cover was fuckin' awesome!" So I think it can be put in greatest hits. :D

Been practicing since I found out I was nominated. 7/8 have to lose - and judging by the fact that I'm tied with three other people for last place, I probably won't be the one who wins...

I agree - I don't think there should be covers in a Greatest Hits album. Thoughtless isn't an Evanescence song - it would be like including the song we all can't say the name of because it's forbidden and private and also not an Evanescence song. *sigh* I don't think covers should have been allowed... but hey, not my contest...

um. no offence, but what are you on about? why are you bringing that song into this? that's completely different. seriously. one song is performed live by ev at concerts. they want you to hear it. i'm guessing the other is only performed by amy and not the whole band. and ev don't want you to hear it.

now correct me if i'm wrong, but i would've thought ev's greatest hits would be songs they've either recorded in studio or performed live. thoughtless falls into that category. the other song doesn't. i don't think it's fair that you're using that song to make someone else's tracklisting seem lesser than yours and influence voting. intentionally or not.

but like i said, don't take offence, it's not like i dislike you or anything. i just wanted to give my opinion on it, seeing as you've given yours. maybe we'll have to agree to disagree.

marika makes a good point though. thoughtless kicks ass. so do a lot of live songs. like the two keystone included; bmtl and farther away are awesome live songs as well. it's just my personal preference, but i think the inclusion of live songs is a good idea. it shows more about the band. what they're like in concert. whether it's adapting another song to their own style (thoughtless, zero (speeded up), etc) or changing their own for a live performance (bmtl w/john's vocals (ok, so they had to really, but still), f.a. intro/outro), i think it's worthwhile including it. look how many people here can't wait for the dvd/cd. live songs pwn too! :D

Hey Cfw, would having a ranking in 2nd or 3rd place be worth anything? Even, like, a symbolic bronze or silver medal maybe? Or Runner-Up prizes of some kind. That'd be fun.

I beleive you mistook me - I didn't mean that thoughtless isn't a good song, I love that song. I just don't feel that it belongs in a Greatest Hits CD, as it wasn't them who made it a hit (of course, it was for US, but I'm talking about the charts). I certainly didn't intend to suggest that mine is any better... I'm comparing it to *the other song* because neither are, technically speaking, Evanescence songs. That was the extent of the comparison. *shrugs* and I'm all for the inclusion of live songs. I didn't add any to mine simply because I don't know which live songs are the best, I've only heard like two, except for the ones at the concert I saw, and while good they were nothing special (in comparison to Ev. as they are in studio). And I don't know which concerts they were from.

I must say, that it is freaky how a band with only one real album out could have such a diverse amount of "greatest hits" collections. Really goes to show that they really had a large body of work, and were brilliant amatuers, before hitting a record deal. And the amount of versions and demos shows what kind of perfectionists they are.

Well I'll admit, when I first heard about all of these older tracks from Ev, I was kinda shocked when there were like half a dozen versions of one track - it was crazy!! :) but thank god for all those versions, coz it keeps it interesting!!

I agree with you. It's amazing how the first songs they made, being young and unexperienced and stuff, are just as amazingly good as they are now. Of course they have too grown so much, you can also see (hear) that.

I like listening to all the different versions, one after another, and hear the differences, and how they experimented with different sounds.. I just love them!
