I am a budding movie buff. I research, I study, I watch as many films as possible. Here, for the first time on Evboard, is my incomplete list of the ones I have seen. I'm probably missed a boat load and in fact, I am, but here they are.

I have an assload of classics coming up and they'll certainly change my opinion on things. People tell me to get a life, but I do. It's just different from other people. I think film is an art form and I love to devote time to it.

Maybe you should consider aspiring to become a film teacher.

I taught that for a few semesters; it is frustrating because most take the course figuring it to be "watch a movie and get an easy A".

I'm a writer. I think that's my strong suit. I've gotten As in every English class I've ever had including a college-credited Creative Writing course. I'm also currently writing a book.

Yeah, I took that because I'm a communications major. It was a part of my curriculum. I also took it...to watch a movie and get an easy A :D

Carol Reed's The Third Man is my favorite film, actually. And to answer the other guy, no, it's not. Notice when you're a child, you watch at least one movie every two days or more. If this is constant for say, ten years, you'd have seen 1,800 films. But, you also have to factor in how many times you saw one of them. I haven't watched a movie for days. Just avoid shitty ones.

Okay if you're going to study film you need to stop watching some of the trash that on your list. There's to much good stuff to waste your time.
I'm a Hitchock fan so.... You saw the original Psycho right? The remake was pointless and Anthony Perkins was truly creepy in the first one. The shower scene is a work of art. Something like 100 different shots!
Try Vertigo and the Birds. And if you watch North by Northwest you'll get Hitch and Cary Grant!! What Hitch did in these movies was revolutionary. Oh, and The Trouble with Harry if you like dark comedy (The Trouble with Harry is he's dead!)
Cary Grant's best performance though was Arsenic and Old Lace.
I'm a fan not a student but one approach might be to look at director's bodies of work. Can be very interesting to see how they evolve.
Another good place to start - The American Film Institute has listings of the top 150 movies ever made.
Here's some more you shouldn't miss:
The Ten Commandments - Just to see the shear audacity of Cecil B DeMille's directing
The Manchurian Candidate
Citizen Kane - Don't know if it's the best ever made but pretty impressive for a director/actor debut!
Almost any of the Pink Panther movies (Especially the first few including A Shot in the Dark) - Petter Sellers is a genious!
I'm sure I could think of more.

Try Vertigo and the Birds.
The Birds was a really awesome movie. I saw it for the first time in 9th grade right at the beginning of winter, so all the birds were migrating in large groups and a group of black birds took a break in my neighborhood. Hundreds of birds in the street, in the grass, on the roof tops, and on the power lines. It freaked me out.

i can't really think of a lot of movies like you do. but two movies that are REALLY REALLY good that you don't have on your list are: Ponette (a french movie but has english subtitles) and Identity. Those two are really entertaining. i'm not sure if they're exactly the material you're looking for to study film but they're really entertaining. i guarantee you'll enjoy

Sure I suppose; BTW - Citizen Kane is on most people's list as the best film ever made, though I like Dr. Strangelove as well.
Dr. Strangelove is SUPERB!!! I like this movie very much... I was also laughing a lot with "As good as it gets"... lovely... :p

I saw Psycho, The Birds, and Identity. Like I said, this list is incomplete. I just started getting away from crap in early 2001.

Looking for Alibrandi <--- See that.
Yes, awesome movie! :D I can't believe you haven't seen Pretty in Pink  It's not as funny as The Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles, but it's still a classic John Hughes film :D And Orgazmo. See Orgazmo. One of the funniest goddamn movies I've ever seen!

i Ponette (a french movie but has english subtitles)
OMG - I thought I was the only one in the whole world who saw that movie! It was on HBO for awhile and I ended up watching it 3 times! If that little girl doesn't break your heart you're not alive! How they got that performance out of her I have no idea!

I am not even about to list all the movies that I have seen in this lifetime. . .for one, we'd probably be here ALL night, not to mention the fact that I'd probably miss a couplf of the movies I've seen anyway, better off letting the next person have THEIR say.

Oh Man there's some good stuff here!
The Apartment
I like almost anything with Jack Lemon but this is one of my favorites. Starts out as a dark comedy and then turns into to something entirely different.
Blue Velvet
Good luck. I just did not get this one.
Annie Hall
I struggle with this one too. I didn't really find it all that funny. Couldn't stand either Woody Allen or Diane Keaton's character. Maybe I'm just tired of her wear the same damn outfit for 20 years!!
The Matrix: Revolutions
After how bad this was trashed you're still going to watch it? I didn't bother to see it though so I guess I can't really say.

You guys rule! Yep! Film is THE art!!! Everyone bow down to it!!!
Actually, not to be mean or anything, but I bet I've watched more movies than you. Seriously now. Those are approximately how many? 500? 600?? I vote regularly on IMDb and right now I have 677 titles rated to my name. And I'm only 16. I swear I must have left out another 100 that I watched when I was a kid. But hey! I'm a freak!!!

One question? How did you keep track of all that? I mean did you write it down everytime you watched a movie or something.... if not, you have an excellent memory :) I wish my husband could keep track of stuff as well as you do, maybe then he could remember my birthday
But, anyway most of the movies you named I have seen as well. My fave out of all of those would have to be Pulp Fiction. :)

I have a lot of favs from your list. Especially, A League Of Their Own <3 and A Christmas Story (LMFAO). I love that movie. It's hilarious. "Ralllpphhyy!!!", "There's starving people in China!", "I hate meatloaf", "You'll shoot your eye out". Hahahaha. I love the part when Ralphy got in trouble for saying the "F" word and she called the boy's parents. You could hear the woman over the phone loud and clearly beating the kid. :D I love it. I remember that movie "Batteries not included". I never knew they made a movie on "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea". That was a great book though. Ocean's Eleven was a great movie. Can't wait for the second. I didn't see this on your list, I think it's called "Johnny 5"? With that robot lol. Also, have you seen Mannequin? I love that movie, too.
You have a shitload of movies. I couldn't remember what I seen lol. ;)
