Carrie Lee’s fascination with pop stars such as Britney Spears
and Christina Aguilera was the inspiration for the song. Amy Lee said that Carrie, 8 at the time, started to dress as those two superstars and that it angered Amy. It is track #3 and the fourth single off of Fallen.

The video, directed by Philip Stolzl, is a live action video that portrays the life of a glamorous superstar (played by Amy Lee) who is really unhappy with the way she portrays herself in the media. She sells Lies consumer products (perfume, pizza, and soda). Towards the end of the video she expresses deep regret for selling Lies in the first place. The video was filmed in Los Angeles in mid-April 2004.

Minor blooper in the video:

In the elevator scene with the two blondes, part of the cameraman's arm is visible for about two seconds to the immediate left of Amy's hood. (6:52-6:54 on the DVD.)

...There's only 2 women in the Elevator besides Amy. I don't know where you got the third "Bitch", as you so politely put it, from.

i was listening to the demo version of this song last night and it was at the end of the 2nd chorus, right before the guy speaks and unexpectedally i heard children! it sounds like they're playing with each other or arguing. i was listening to it on my mp3 in the dark and it was a little creepy at first, lol. skip to 1.31 to hear it. you can hear it really clearly.

I would of never thought it was about Xstina and Britney spears.

I thought it was about something totally different. I didnt like it as the fourth single. I would of prefered HAUNTED.

At the beginning after it says "There is nothing better than a good lie"...Random squiggles go up the screen and I know it might just be for effect with the advert and stuff but I couldn't help thinking it read something

The man talking is actually Ben, although, David could be the man speaking also. I am not sure as to it being Ben, but I heard it, or read it, in the Everybody's Fool section, First version one, here, http://www.leoslyrics.com/listlyrics.php?hid=4IPfV9R2TtU%3D.

Ben is saying:

What do you mean here, in the italics?

" -- Sometimes videos are mirrored, or looped, or some parts are recorded. or maybe Blonde 2 finished her statement for her?

About smashing the mirror, it does look as if there is something in her hand. I think it may be the empty bottle of beer, or whatever it was, that she drank while the scenes were cascading from the mirror scene to the motorcycle scene. But there is a bottle on the counter top? Maybe an unopened bottle?

Motorcycle scene:

You do not see Terry laughing while Amy is flipping her hair, but you do see him smiling while she is drinking the pop, or soda.

About the squiggles:

They seem to me, to be as though Amy is crossing herself out because she hates the fake person she is, in the video of corse. It also looks like the scribblings from the magazine picture she is scribbling out. Good eye, thanks for noticing that. I noticed it and thought nothing of it.

When fixing Amy make up at the beginning, you can see hair spray, or smoke. You also see an expression on Amy's face like it got on her face, or she breathed it in.

You can also see the arm, in the elevator mirror, on the elevator scene. maybe Amy wasn't supposed to move, or the director was in the wrong spot?

On the bill board, at the end, it reads:

EDIT: 9/16/06. In the music video, has anyone noticed that as Amy comes up from holding her breath in the tub, after the girl laughs, there's a scream?

My favorite demo is the one where she cuts to "I know the truth now..." after Ben's part. I also hear children speaking incoherently before Ben's part. In the Fallen version, the choir is so cool. For some reason, the song hasn't been that popular on my the only Alternative Rock station down here. In fact, I've never heard it on the radio and I haven't even seen the video outside of the ABH DVD.

I noticed that, too. I thought I was just hearing things, though. Then again, it could be the laughter fading out, but I could be wrong. Good observation.:)

I love this song!!!
I do believe that Amy is probably the first artist, that has made a song about the industry, and how fake it can really be!! And this song, is about as real as it can get!! Amy would know all that to well!! It can be really harsh, and tough to be in her shoe's, but I think Amy handles it all very well!! I absolutely Love the video for this song as well! I know, and understand about being behind the camera all to well, as well! It is alot of fun most of the time, but what the artists go through sometimes, isn't all fun and games! And thats what alot of ppl don't understand! But with this song, I couldn't have said it better myself!! :)

Everybody's Fool I love this song its the best song on Fallen but I'm a bit annoyed with Evanescence for not preforming it on there Open Door Tour I hope they preform it on there next tour do you think they'll preform Everybody's Fool again someday ?

I love the lyrics and the video.
I remember the first time I heard it, I didn´t noticed the meaning of the lyrics that much, but after a time, I had to think about it.

This is one of my favorite songs by them, I'm not saying it's my absolute favorite just one of my favorites. It can be used to describe the industry or it can be used to describe a really fake person....I use it to describe my ex-girlfriend. Absolutely love it!

i think this is the song that, of all the fallen tracks it still holds its own against the new ev stuff for me, it sounds like its mature enough to be from the ev of recent instead of the ev of pre-2004
