I took their smiles and I made them mine
I sold my soul just to hide the light
And now I see what I really am
A thief a whore and a liar
I run to you far away from this town
Call out your name giving up giving in
I see you there still you are
Farther away
Im numb to you
Numb and deaf and blind
You give me all but the reason why
I reach but I feel only air at night
Not you not love just nothing
I run to you far away from this town
Call out your name giving up giving in
I see you there still you are
Farther away
Tried to forget you, but without you, I feel nothing
Don't leave me here by myself I can't breathe
I run to you far away from this town
Call out your name giving up giving in
I see you there still you are
Farther away

I have that version too, it's also missing the line "try to forget you, but without you, I feel nothing," and has a slightly different vocal arrangement.

i've heard it too, it was on a myspace that someone made for evanescence and id listen to it all the time but they sadly deleted their acount :(
i think that was just a version they made when they first wrote it around 200 or 2001 just to get an idea of it, but probably remade it in a much fuller version in 2003! i think im getting the bring me to life single for Christmas! but idk,... at least i hope so

The one that begins with the Guitar is the Fallen B-side. As Far as I know there are three recorded versions.
The guitar Intro
The PIano Intro
The Drum Intro
The Drum intro is the hardest to find a studio recording of. I had it a while ago, but my computer had to be formatted and I lost it.

think about it... why would evanescence have written town in that phrase??? too me it sounds like hell, and hell makes more sense... im not trying to sound mean at all, but i dont want u guys to have to start a big debate over whether its hell or town... my oppinion is that the word town only has one specific meaning which is a small city or community, but hell can be anything such as a horrible place or horrible state of mind... so when u think of when amy, and ben, and david were writing this song, with their great writing skills, they wouldve probably used hell to get their feeling across, rather than town. -ryanO

I mean i don't want to start an argument about whether it's hell or town either and i'm not trying to,and i'm sure that hell would make more sense but listen to it,there is clearly a t sound in it,i mean i thought it said town the first time i heard the song, then i went to go look up the words and only afew of them said town and all the rest said hell.So that made me even more confused. So i know that it really doesn't matter which one it is just as long as you enjoy the song and all that stuff but i'm just saying what i think, because i just want to make sure that i'm saying the right words to these songs you know.Because i don't want to say the wrong thing and think it's something different than what it actually is.

Actually, when you listen to the demo version, it sounds a lot more like 'hell' than 'town'. If you listen very closely, you can even hear the 'ell...' at the end.
Since the voice is edited the exact sounds of the letters are distorted but after listening to the demo version its definitely 'hell' in my book.

We've been through this so many times. So so many. Read the FAQ. This is not a filesharing community. I'm going to start banning people on the spot when I see them doing this. This can get evboard in a lot of trouble. If you want to share, keep it off the board, or make sure it's fan-created, fully non-copyrighted work, or something live. I'm not a lawyer, but if you're unsure of yourself, then I'd suggest you PM either Tracie or Cfw828 first and ask. They're probably the best equipped to tell you. I don't care who you are, but you damn well better think before you post about this, or you're gone.

Yes, It's the Live Version. But IT's a Recordered Version of it. So, It's the way they do it live, done in studio.

Is it not possible that originally in the Piano version (assuming the piano version came first) it was Hell, as I agree it sounds distinctly like Hell and nothing else, which later evolved into Town (because again without a doubt there is a very distinct T sound and even "own" sound following that) for reasons which I would imagine only the band could answer (it's not like "run away from this town" is jibberish or without possible meaning... the town could be hell afterall).
Even through my best imagination and concentration I just can't hear the guitar version as saying Hell... there's no way to twist the sound of the words to fit IMO.

i've been listening to the song about twenty times trying to hear what she's saying and I believe that she's saying "run away from this hell" in both recorded versions that i've heard so far (guitar/Piano intro), also in the live one too. although in the piano intro one it's hard to tell because the end of "hell" seems to be cut off or muffled and all you hear is "run away from this he-".so it's hard to say what it really is....

It goes like this. The first chorus has "Hell" in it, the second has "town," and then the third and forth have "Hell."
I run to you (Run away from this hell)
Call out your name (Giving up, giving in)
I see you there (Still you are farther away)
Farther away
I run to you (Run away from this town)
Call out your name (Giving up, giving in)
I see you there (Still you are farther away)
Farther away
this is the correct lyrics
farther away
I run to you
I took their smiles and I made them mine
I sold my soul just to hide the light
And now I see what I really am
A thief, a whore, and a liar
I run to you
And run away from this hell
Call out your name
Giving up, giving in
I see you there
Still you are
Farther away
I’m numb to you,
Numb and deaf and blind
You give me all but the reason why
I reach but I feel only air and night
Not you, not love, just nothing
I run to you
And run away from this hell
Call out your name
Giving up, giving in
I see you there
Still you are
Farther away
Don’t leave me here
By myself
I can't breathe
I run to you
And run away from this hell
Call out your name
Giving up, giving in
I see you there
Still you are
Farther away
Don’t leave me here
By myself
I can't breathe
I run to you
And run away from this hell
Call out your name
Giving up, giving in
I see you there
Still you are

I run to you
And run away from this hell
Call out your name
Giving up, giving in
I see you there

David Hodges sings the background in the piano and guitar versions. However on Anywhere but Home you can clearly hear Amy singing. I'm sure that the rare drum version would have Amy singing aswell, as Hodges had left the band. And when Amy sings she says "Run away from this hell." David says "town".

If you have an 88 key piano then it's:
A6 A7 G6 A6 G6 F6 A6 E6 D6 A6 E6 A6 D6 A6 D6 E6
So the notes are:
A A G A G F A E D A E A D A D E
The notes are the same for both versions.
If you want the whole song then you may need to get the "Anywhere But Home" Piano book.

G7 is the last "G" note on the piano. It's G6. Your C7 is supposed to be a D6.
I can't attach the file of the first two line of the sheet music from "Anywhere But Home" because the uploading thing is sayign it's too big when the picture is really small so.. I donno.

What format is the file in? If it's .bmp or .jpg then the size'll be pretty big, but if you put it in, say, .png it'll be so much smaller. Just go to Paint or whatever you use, "Save As", and at the bottom there'll be a dropdown menu for the filetype you want to save it as.
I've found that more accurate.
Just realized I put the wrong numbers down beside the numbers. Bump the octave down by two.

Actually on the Piano sheet music in the "Anywhere But Home" Piano book the first note, which is the A, is marked as A Home, A5, but it has the 8va --------------- thing. So in actaulality you would have to play it at A6. If I played it in the octave you put that would be really low, A4 actually.

In the interest of helping me to better understand what's going on in this thread, could someone please explain the A5, A6, 8va stuff to me in terms even a drummer could understand?
Thank you.
And, no, I don't play drums. I play guitar and bass.

This song is so different from the others. I love the guitar at the beginning. No other Pre-TOD songs have this much noticeable guitar. The piano is also priceless.

Lol. I like the drums and guitar and bass, but love piano. Okay. I said the A5 and A6 thing because if you have an 88 key piano, you start from the lowest note on the left of the keys/keyboard, A1, and you count up to where you need to go. Only the thing is, you can only count the "A" keys on the piano. :D
The same with any other note. Only they have to be specified.

I thought that where it says "run away from this town" was meant to be something like "run away from this hell"
Ami right or am i imagining things??

In the demo version, it is "hell". However, in the b-side from Fallen, the one on the Bring Me To Life single, it is "town".
I think "hell" sounds cooler, though, so I just sing it that way in both versions. :p

You should have been here 4 years ago. lol.
There was a huge debate over this at EvThreads, I think. I know there was a huge debate over if Amy said "Dear," "Did," "Do," or "Dead" at the end of "Like You." It's still going on. lol.
Okay I stated that about the "hell" and "town" difference over at EvThreads. Here's my post:
Okay.
I can't remember where it was but there was a controvesey between weather Amy said "Run away form this hell." "Run away from this town."
Well...
...It's actually both. In the Final Edit, it's "town." In the Demo it's "hell."

I think I just became super confused by reading everything on this wonderful subject... I love the song, but of course off the top of my head I dunno which version I have...
I always thought it was "hell" but I understand the confusion of it all...
And now I have something to search for after I decide which version I get to look for...
but from reading all the other posts, I am not the only one confused...
LOL
Thanks!

Since when was there two versions?
This is however..One of my favorite songs in the whole band.
The message is brilliant.
In my opinion the message states that she was in love with someone, but than she went into hiding because the love was broken(He died, they broke up, etc). She goes into hiding and "run's away from this hell" which is life without him.
Anyone think im close?
Lol.

There are many versions to many of their songs. I find it interesting to listen to the different versions. You should check them out.

I agree with you Karen.....
I listen to so many different versions of pretty much each of Ev's songs,
and they are all amazing.
I really love the songs with just piano, or just guitars, and drums.
They are just incredable!!

I just pretend that the word is "hell" in the final edit. This song kinda reminds me of Going Under sorta. Damn, I hope Ev performs this song again their next tour - I'm sure it would sound so much better live with how much Amy's voice has improved. Possibly my favorite Ev song :D

One of Ev's best songs. Good lyrical content. Good beat.
