View Full Version : Favorite Horror Video Game

I'm a big horror game fan person- And I'm wondering who's the same! I did like RPGs, but they got old- fast. And there's not much reply value to any of them, either. I mean, you play it once and never look back. In fact, you could play it over again with no effort- its just no fun. And yeah, you can tell me how there is this one RPG with 3 endings, oranother with 5, but most or all horror games have many endings, secrets, codes, and weapons, and other stuff to unlock through after-game minigames and whatnot. Sorry, but RPGs for half my life got old. But, for those who haven't play horror games, they are those like:
Clocktower 2, 3
Resident Evil (Biohazard) 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 (TBA), CV, CVX, Outbreak, Dead Aim +
Silent Hill 1, 2, 3, 4 (TBA)
Alone in the Dark 1, 2 (I think there's 2)
Siren (April 20)
Fatal Frame 1, 2

And theres more, but those're just some you may have played!

(I searched for this topic, but couldnt find another thread on it)

I think there was a thread of this awhile back, but it must have been clipped, as I can't find it either...

I agree with you that RPGs don't have much replay value, but personally, that doesn't matter much to me. Lives, jobs, and responsibilities don't leave much time for you to replay something. Especially a game as lengthy as an RPG. >.<

Not that RPGs have to do with anything...

Silent Hill is my favorite horror series. It has a kickass, and very well-thought story behind it. I always appreciate something that lets you figure things out for yourself. Not to mention it's the only horror game I've ever played with a decent plot... x_x

Though, I'm very much looking forward to Siren. It looks great.

Well, if you're including PC games, there is no question.

Phantasmagoria.

Period.

That game scared the shit out of me the first time I played it. The second one, Puzzle Of Flesh, is okay, but the ending sucks my ass sideways on a Tuesday.

:D

Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube. I just got pulled into the story and the insanity meter thing(the game messes with your characters "mind" when there are a lot of monsters or something like that), it just freaked me out when it said that the controller wasn't plugged in with all the zombie things in the room.
When you put up "I prefer RPGs" you probably should of put "I prefer another genre" or something like that because there are alot of other things besides RPGs and Horror.

Resident Evil was my first horror video game and its my favorite but Fatel Frame is cool too!! :( Its hard to choose between the two :( I thought Resident Evil and Fatel Frame were role playing games. But don't forget Parasite Eve 1 and 2 :p

I love Resident Evil, I bought when I was 11, or something like that, and it never scared me, but Silent Hill, dude it used to scary me a lot (I'm so stupid...) but these days I've been playing and it was ok...
and I totally agree with the one who said that Phantasmagoria is scary at the first time you play it!

Resident Evil for PSX.

"You, the master of unlocking."

I would definately have to go with the Silent Hill and then Fatal Frame series.

I still like Resident Evil, but it relies too much on cheap scares IMO. BOO! and it's over type thing. Silent Hill makes you not want to even take the short walk down the hall....

Ohhh yes, utter classic. It's terrible to play with all the lights off though

I would also have to say the Silent Hill series. During the day it merely disturbs me, but playing it at night I get scared shitless! :D

Okay, I don't know if this is classified as a horror video game and I can't remember what it's called, so maybe someone can help me out...

All I know is you're walking around in an abandoned house with a camera and you have to take pics of ghost to scare them away, or something. I only played if for ten mins because it was freaking me out!! :D

I would say the Silent Hill series. They're scary in a more disturbing kind of way.

But I got so scared of Project Zero (Fatal Frame) that I just stopped playing it! :D I couldn't even play that game when I was alone

YES! That's the game! Like Silent Hill, that game freaks me out. I'll stick to Gran Turismo. ;)

Resident Evil is by far the greatest horror video game series. It just owns. No other game has scared the living shit out of me like that game. Yes! I can admit that the game scared me. I mean seriously, you're up at about 2am in the morning.. it's completely dark in the room (minus the glow of the tv screen, of course).. it's silent except for the soft thuds of your character's footsteps and then BAM a zombie pops out of nowhere. Awesome. :D

Scary thought, anything made by Britney. I still have to play Clocktower or Silent Hill, but those two series seem to have the right atmosphere.

It's completely stupid. I have complete control over the game. It's not real. The ghosts aren't going to kill me, but I freak out every time I see one in the game, or the freak things in Silent Hill. I mean, like totally freak out...I dropped the controller once when I was playing Silent Hill.

hahahah! How sad is that?

The thief series!!!!!!

I was moving througha part of a city that had some sort of disaster happen, and i had to duck into a ruined building to escape some zombie. No lights in my Room, Pitch black in the builing in the game, only the moan of the zombie and the slow shuffling of feet. Then silence..............followed by the angry scream of the undead as i finally sees me. I hit the reset button on my computer is was so terrified.

Shame on me I haven't played any Resident Evil games, but I really like Silent hill and Alone in the Dark 4
So many of you are saying Resident evil is a really good thing, what part is the most horrified?

Honestly, RE is very FUN- but not as scary. Very suspenseful, though, id say.

I prefer mental/psychological terror, like the religious/nightmare thing in Silent Hills, but the ghosts, fuzzyness, black and white, and antique looking Fatal Frames.

(Oh, and Silent Hill 4 comes out soon, look for its trailer. That is one disturbing trailer.)

Resident Evil 2 which I played on PC was definitely my favourite.

But I have a feeling Resident Evil 4 is soo going to replace it. Link (http://www.gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_residentevil4_4.html), incase you haven't seen the trailor yet.

Silent Hill 4 looks to be the mind f*ck to beat. But I am looking forward to the new direction they're taking the RE series.

I love survival horror but I've only played FF2. It rocks :) I'm going to play the first one and maybe Silent Hill as well sometime soon. I watched my boyfriend play Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil and they both looked awesome but too scary for me to try!

I'm a big fan of the clocktower series. I've played a couple of them, although I'm really not the greatest when it comes to playstation games  :p

Seriously, I wanna play RE4 and SH4, and see which is better. RE4 looks more actiony this time, and SH4 looks very...more disturbing, as usual. SH tends to increase in total insanity as a new game is added. x.x And Resident Evil seems to add more action/real skill and thinking.
