Ranger X music was kickass as well!
Ultima~The Resistance
which one is that one in?
i really really like stones from the Ultima games. someone redid it a coupla years ago and it was just awesome. from what i understand, the RL Iolo and Gwenno wrote that tune. one time, i got to hold a crossbow the RL Iolo made. it's geeky, but i was all happy. he wasn't around personally, tho, b/c Gwenno had just died. that's why she has a grave site over by where the liches spawn near one of the shrines in Ilshenar in UO. poor Gwenno...
I fucking love Chocobo music. It's so awesome. Cause it's just like.. chocobos. And the music from the Calm Lands in FFX. I like most of the music from FFX except the music when you're fighting a Jecht who overdosed on steroids. I like the intro music from FFX2 as well, since J-Pop is a guilty pleasure for me.

Sorry, it's Ultima 5~Lazarus I think.
i really really like stones
I really like that song too. And I forgot about The Oppression, yet another good good song.
from the Ultima games. someone redid it a coupla years ago and it was just awesome. from what i understand, the RL Iolo and Gwenno wrote that tune.
That's just crazy, I can't believe they actually made that song.. too wierd.

I am adding FFX~Challenge to my list of fav, had to remember the name.
Also the complete Dig OST
Ultima~The Resistance

Sorry, it's Ultima 5~Lazarus I think.
i only recall one song from U5 b/c i played the NES version. and tit only had the one song thru the whole damn game and i don't know what it was called.

pls do. cool to find someone who would freak out about it as much as i did. well, i didn't really freak out but i thought it was cool as hell that the real Iolo made crossbows and that i was holding one of them. i told the guy that was there (one of his friends, sorda reminded me of what i'd think Dupre would look like, esp since serpent isle...but i don't think it was him) to tell Iolo i was sorry for his loss. once you go thru the stuff that the Av and his companions have gone thru, you kinda feel like you know em... ok, i think i'm getting entirely too geeky at this point...

The entire soundtrack to Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.
Absolutely awesome! :)
I like the Kingdom Hearts; Simple and Clean and FFX2 that song from the preview. I also love all the songs from Mario All-Stars for NES. Then I like the Donky Kong country songs.
Ahh. Video game music makes up a majority of what I listen to, Yasunori Mitsuda in particular. Scars of Time, the intro from Chrono Cross is awesome. I really like his gothic choir pieces in Xenosaga, too.
Donkey Kong Country has really great music as well, especially the second, and I love, love, looooove the Silent Hill soundtracks. Freaky noises and cool guitar! :D

All the music in the computer game Blood. It was composed by the game designers so I don't know what to tell people that want to hear it. I guess buy the game, it's really old and it should be cheap, and it's a good game too.

I really like the music from FFX the most of any game (Castlevania Symphony of the Night is a close second). I think my favorite song on the FFX soundtrack is Suteki Da Ne (Isn't it Wonderful), Other World (the heavy metal song played during the blitzball scene at the beginning and during the fight with Jecht) is really cool too.
From Castlevania Symphony of the Night, I really like Tragic Prince and the tune they play in the arena (castle 1). The others are really good too, but those are my favorite. Bloody Tears and Deja Vu are always classic CV tunes.

Gta music is great in both GTA and Vice City. I love Chatterbox , I have alllll the commercials and interviews memorized.. sad i know.....but you know what? i love the original Mario 1 music. Its so cool. RAWK
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City...heeell yeah :D
And NFL Street. I got the pre-release demo, I think, yesterday, for buying KoRn's new album (should've gotten the Bravehearts album but...oh well, KoRn's album is okay)..it features music from the X-Ecutioners :D my favorite DJ group.
Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters :D for anyone that knows the group..
Street Hoops had some good music, but I never played it. A friend of mine's did and kept on screamin about how he loved the game and all the guys in the game :? "YO MAN THEY GOT 1/2 AMAZIN MAN blahblah.." forgot how you say his actual name. I used to be more familiar with AND1 players, but...as time progresses, memory losses occur :D
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City...heeell yeah :D
MJ, quiet riot, judas priest, and run dmc all on the same soundtrack. genius.

Chrono Trigger~Two Far Away Times
Final Fantasy IV~Celtic Moon~Rydia Theme
Final Fantasy VI~Piano Collection~The Phantom Forest
oh ya, any of the Orchestra Game concerts are pretty sweet too..
How could anyone leave DDR out..(besides me :P)...the games got good tracks on them. Never play the game, but yeah..
Also, classic Mario music IS hot :D I was listening to a tape in the car today...it's like Mario music with beats...but a little more complex than that (don't remember how the track went exactly besides the Mario music :?)...
NBA Street 2 also had some good music. I was surprised they included T.R.O.Y. (Pete Rock & CL Smooth)..same with Dilated Peoples and Kweli...but that song was old when the game got released.

Yea , Streets Vol.2 is good , Mario is always classic.
Hey Cyra , have you evar heard of Boac?? he has a song with the Zelda beat behind it. OMFG , so so ill..

The emcee , the writer , the disc jock , the beat box
Thats the beginning of it if you didnt recognize it. you should check it out , I cant remember exactly what the song is called though, let me see if I can find out.
Don't think I've ever heard of the dude. There's a ton of DJs out there making video game music, haha, but as for Zelda beats...I used to own the Game Boy version, Link's Awakening I think. Took me two years to beat it (stuck at the level 2 dungeon..didn't know I had to light a fire to make the room visible)...that's how it took an entire 2 years...and actually, plus another few months just to beat it  I'll do a search on that sometime tho ;)
All this reminds me of DJ Q-bert :D funny name, and he's got weird DVDs..crazy stories.

Well, that code is called the Konami code because it was used in alot more games than just Contra...and it doesn't have the second "B" in it.
But yeah, the music rules.
IF anyone wants to listen to some bad ass remakes of videogame tunes, go to www.minibosses.com and go to "songs" and download the songs, be patient because the mirrors get upset sometimes.

I gotta throw in the orchestral version. :D
Also, I know I've said it about a billion times, but Mitsuda is GOD! Chrono Trigger/ Cross, Xenogears and Xenosaga are all in my top....everything.
I also second (third? fourth?) the Silent Hill soundtracks.
As for my two pesos, I'll throw in the Panzer Dragoon OSTs, The Final Fantasy VI Grand Finale Disc. Klonoa was a great soundtrack as well. Castlevania:Symphony of the Night is forever awesome. Also, I did rather like the Parasite Eve soundtrack

Lately on the GamingFM station, they have been playing a really good song from a live orchestral version of songs from Super Smash Brothers Melee, and they have one song that they call "Great Medley" and it is 14 minutes long. It has music from Marios 1, 2, 3, SMW (from SNES) and it has Big Blue (from FZero) a Zelda tune or two, and I think a song from Fire Emblem, but I am not sure because it is a song i have never heard and i am assuming it is Fire Emblem because i haven't played that game.

I don't know if anyone's said this yet (I just skimmed over the first and last pages of the thread) but the ending theme for FFX is the single most amazing piece of music I've ever heard in a game. Honestly. I cry every time I hear it.
Aerith's Theme and One Winged Angel are good too. I don't like any of the J-Pop songs, though, since I can't stand that style... o_o

Just about any song that has come out of a Castlevania game.
Any of the music from the 2003 game Freedom Fighters.
Not exactly music in the same vein as Xenosaga, FF, etc ... but still very good music. I believe it recieved Game Music of the year on IGN, or was at the very least nominated.
Don't know if it's available or not for download anywhere ... but if it is, very good pickup.

this is the best place to get EVERY game soundtrack:
http://www.zophar.net/music.html
most video games use a sort of MIDI, and these are the same format. the entire Secret of Mana soundtrack EXACTLY as it sounds in the game is only 200kb! and it sounds better than MP3's would because there is no compression quality loss.

Midi's would only sound correct up to a certain point. The 8 bit and maybe on a good day 16 bit system music would sound good on there but if you get higher than 16 bit, then the quality is going to go to crap with midi's because the newer music is a lot more complex than the older ones.

I think Fallen Angelia meant that these files use a format that depends on realtime synthesis. That means that in these files (relatively small) audio samples, effects and sequencer data are combined. Music can then be reproduced by adjusting and mixing the audio samples as is described in the sequencer part. Examples are amiga modules (.mod) and module extensions like scream tracker (.st) or impulse tracker (.it) files. The part called DirectMusic in DirectX delivers tools for developers to use this method.
This does not necessarily mean less sound quality. It depends of the quality of the samples and the capabilities of the synthesizer. Some things are very difficult or still impossible to synthesize because of the sound's diversity, think of singing or electric guitars. In these cases you sometimes have no choice but to use fully presampled music like .mp3 .
I can't spare time or have the equipment to play computer games anymore, but I do remember to be very impressed by the music in the following games:
Diablo I (Dark, medevil sound)
MDK I (Big orchestral pieces)
Unreal I (The sound files are simple amiga modules wrapped in a umx header. Dispate that, very much contributing to the atmosphere of the game)
Of course, the chatterbox in Liberty City is also very nice.

I dig the tunes from the oldies ('80's) arcade games. My favorites are Gauntlet, Gauntlet II, Gyruss, Marble Madness (esp 3rd level), 720, Dark Adventure (1987) and last, but not least, Paperboy!!
In the early 90's, I liked Sega Genesis music on the Shooter Games: Thunder Force 3, Gaiares and Arrow Flash.
For modern games (PS2), I enjoy all radio station on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: with V-Rock, Emotion, Flash Fm as my faves. Off the subject a little, I also listen to the talk stations on Vice City while enjoying popcorn or e-mailing. It's fun!

I used to use http://vgmusic.com a lot for downloading MIDI files from all sorts of games... mostly Square RPGs etc, but... a few others as well. I used to ALWAYS listen to MIDIs from games. I can't even think what my absolute faves are... and if I DID know... I don't know the actual names so I'd say "The one that plays when X happens" kinda thing.

when you play a SNES game, the music is simply made up of samples arranged with instructions on when to play each sound and at what pitch, just like PC midi. these songs i linked to are not PC midi, but they are the actual samples and instructions pulled from the game cartridge, so they sound exactly like the game would, and without the quality loss of an MP3 or other compressed format. as the page explains, you need to download a small winamp plugin for each format (NES, SNES, PS each have their own style).

That was cool, Angelia! Thanks for the tips on Video Game music!
Somewhat recently...Lil Flip's Game Over was hot..:D he had video game music to some beats for that one song. He's a Houston rapper for those who don't know..(reason I'm saying this is cause I was talking about this "one song" in this topic on page 6 or something..at the time I had only heard the instrumental on the radio I think, hell, it might have not even been Game Over, I don't remember)...but anyways.
www.ocremix.org has some really nice remixes. The best ones I can recommend from the small amount I've downloaded so far are:
Donkey Kong Country - Blue Vision (http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00778)
Super Mario Brothers 2 SuperBuckJazz (http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00577)
Final Fantasy 4 - A Chocobo's Mystic Life (http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00925)
Mega Man X - Brainsick Metal (http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00569) (exactly what the title is! with electronica)
The Mega Man series has always had some pretty good music, especially later on in the series (once the graphics was cartoonish...I'm not the biggest Mega Man fan, so I don't know which games in the series are like that and stuff)..it was kind of dance music I think.
Final Fantasy has some dramatic music at time. The only Final Fantasy games I got are VII (PSX) and VIII (PC) so I don't really..remember. Got Kingdom Hearts too but that music wasn't as good as the Final Fantasy games I don't think.
Honestly, I'm usually leaning towards sports games (since that's usually what I only play aside from rereleased retro games) since they got current popular rock/rap songs. But yea, sometimes you just got to chill from being tackled and listen to Final Fantasy Chocobo stuff or something :p
Video game music is underrated..:D

The majority of the Final Fantasy, Silent Hill, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Metroid, Xenogears, Zelda, Castlevania remixes from that site are relatively awesome.
There's techno/ industrial, Orchestral, vocal remix arrangements, some of which beat the original compositions.

Yay for Cyra for resurrecting my post!
The mega man rules btw. ;)
I am not sure who knows or like Castlevania here, but if you happen to get a chance you should definetly get Dracula X~ remix 02. I don't know the name of it, as far as I have been able to see, it doesn't actually have one. But seriously, it has to be the best song ever. Infact it's so good, I will be more then will to send it over. :)
Also Star Ocean~ Theme of Rena.. very nice song.
And like I stated in the mario bros thread..
Orchestral Game Concert 1st Edition (http://www.rpgamers.net/VGMReview.cfm?VGMReviewid=20&Tracklist=Yes) .. disregard Viewer comments, pff who are they to decide what's good music?
Orchestral Game Concert 2nd Edition (http://www.altpop.com/stc/reviews/ogc2.htm)
Orchestral Game Concert 3rd Edition (http://www.rpgfan.com/soundtracks/ogc3/)
Best song ever eh? I don't know about that :p
If it's the Dracula X Classical Bach Toccata Al Fugue Techno Mix, then I downloaded the right one. Otherwise there was a Castlevania III Dracula X mp3 that was In Use or something and another one that was...another techno remix. I..have no idea T_T
Well, it has beats :D and something interesting that comes in at 2:40 in the song..not too bad I guess :D the only problem is it's reminding me of The Simpsons too much..maybe cause I'm watching it on the laptop right now..
And yea Naikuu, that site does rock :D

No, it's not that song at all. You're wrong Cyra.. deal with it. :D
Seriously, I don't know what Castlevania it's from, but considering they reuse every song from the ost before, I would it doesn't really matter. All I know is it's called Dracula X and it's remix 02. There are 2 other remixes as well, but I deleted them long ago, as they weren't as interesting to me.
Anyways keep looking.. here is a hint btw there is crazy japanese singing about 1:00 minute into the song.. there is your hint. ;)
Hmm..ok I'll check Bearshare again =P chances are it's probably on a website anyways...oO
Turns out the one I had on Bearshare (Castlevania III theme - Dracula X remix?) ain't it, but it's still nice :D

People are forgetting Zelda music on this thread. Music from Zelda: Ocarina of Time (which happens to be my favourite game EVER - and I've played a lot of games) is my favourite. I've got mp3s of orchestrated versions from the Hyrule Symphony Orchestra soundtrack, and if anyone wants one, just add me to MSN and I'll send you some.
My favourite Zelda music is Hyrule field, from Ocarina of Time. I get fond memories of that game (which I've completed dozens of times and still don't get bored of it) whenever I listen to it.
Oh and GTA3 & VC music is pretty damn good too. Flashback FM was my favourite station from GTA3.
It's good to see so many of you liking games here.

Mmmm there're too many songs to name ..... So I'll just name the games ^^;
-FF6 : all the musics represent a masterpiece. It's for me the best musics I ever heard in a vg.
-Castlevania IV : I loved all those musics, and even now, I still listen to them....
-Castlevania SOTN : like WOAH ! now that rocks, it's hard, punchy... Excellent Ahh The lost Prince \m/
-Chrono Cross .... like the whole game....
-Xenogear/Xenosaga : 2 very nice soundtrack (i love Xenogear Creid as well)
-FF7 : some musics were really nice imo (same with FF8)

Oh.My.God.
Only ONE person has even mentioned Resident Evil!!!! OMFG! *big Resi fan*
The music in those games is GENIOUS! The scores really work with the game to bring out tention, fear and relief in the player... and then just when you thought it was safe, a nice big dollop of fear again! :D

Yeah, you are right Mike :D
I didn't mention this serie cuz I didn't really play them for long. But true is that there's a true atmosphere...like woah. I remember playing Nemesis, and each time the f***er was on the same screen at me and hearing his "STARS" ... freaked me out :D

I think it was FIFA 98 that had some good tracks, like "Song 2" by Blur. In fact, FIFA has had Robbie Williams and Blink 182 do tracks for them too, so they're not bad. I like the powerful orchestra stuff in MGS2, as well. They really know how to make a powerful game, too, and their music is pretty important to them, which is good!
Oh and let's not forget WipeOut 2097. I only had the demo, and the tracks were superb on that!

- the Zelda theme
- And the elevator music version of Cold' "With My Mind" in Psi-Ops level 3.. or 2? Can't remember.
- And the music from Resident Evil. It adds to the creepiness.
Kingdom Hearts
Zelda - A link to the past

Wow, I really like this thread. I've got lots of favorite videogame songs.
Final Fantasy VI - Celes
Final Fantasy VI - Kefka (The part where he is absorbing the espers outside)
Final Fantasy VI - Fighting the Atma Weapon
Final Fantasy VI - Rachel (The scene with Phoenix and Rachel really dies...)
Final Fantasy VII - Aeris
Final Fantasy VII - The Forest Temple
Final Fantasy VIII - The Fire Cave (and other places... it's common but good)
Final Fantasy IX - The Dark Forest? (I think it was called, the first evil forest)
Final Fantasy X - Besaid Island
Final Fantasy X - Macalania Woods
Super Mario RPG - Bowser's Keep
Super Mario RPG - Barrel Volcano
The Zelda Theme!
I've just got the nostalgic urge to play some Final Fantasy VIII myself...

This is why I love music.

This thread Rocks! I like a bunch of video game music.
-Chrono Trigger and Cross have amazing soundtracks. I especially love 'Scars of Time' and 'People Imprisoned by Destiny' (Dario and Miguel battle theme)
-Final Fantasy VI - Basically anything from this game. I love Terra's theme.
-FF7 - Aeris' Theme, One-Winged Angel, Main theme, Staff Roll, JENOVA Absolute
-FF8 - Eyes On Me, Maybe I'm a Lion, Premonition, Liberi Fatali, Slide Show part 1 and 2 (cracks me up every time I hear it), Mods de Chocobo, Ride On, The Ending Theme (all 14 minutes of it)
-FFX - Suteki Da Ne, Otherworld, People of the North Pole, Someday the Dream Will End, Decisive Battle
-The MGS2 Main theme and The Best is Yet to Come
-Xenogears - I adore this soundtrack almost as much as the game itself. Small Two of Pieces is such a beautiful song it brought me to tears the first time I heard it.
-Xenosaga - Yasunori Mitsuda is an Orchestral GOD!
DDR - Too much good music. Butterfly, Kakumei, Healing Vision, Silent Hill, I Feel, The Shining Polaris, Senorita, In the Navy, Boom Boom Dollar, Ghosts, So Deep, Look To the Sky, Twilight Zone, Drop Out, Candy
I think I'll go listen to Small Two of Pieces now.

Just about the entirety of FFX has great music that's really nice to listen to.
And that beginning song to Kingdom Hearts... i dont know what, but sommat about it makes me love the song... it. just. rules.
also, the MMORPG EverQuest has some relaly good music to listen to... and best part about it is that you dont have to be in the particular area of the game to listen to it, just open up the game's directory and listen whenever you want, hehe

are you by chance thinking of Hikaru Utada's Simple And Clean song? cause I dont know if they play that at the beggining of Kingdom Hearts.
Since I've been downloading ringtones like mad-massive-crazy for my phone I've been so into Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3 music (yeah old NES stuff) Also Sonic 2 (most notably Chemical Planet, Casino Night, Aquatic Ruins, and Mystic Cave Zone)
Zelda: Ocarina of Time music makes great rigntones as well.
I'm really sorry that you actually like Boom Boom Dollar (K.O.G. G3 Mix is by far better), Silent Hill (3rd christmas mix is way better), Twilight Zone (reminds me of mortal combat), In The Navy (oh man Captain Jack at his worst) and Butterfly (probably Smile.DK's worst song).

hmmm....
I have to say, Castlevanias music, especially the Symphony of the Night game, really rocked. And some racing games have cool guitar music.
I wholeheartedly agree with you about the FFVII music. That game was so perfect on so many levels.Aeris' music especially. I cried when she died. She was my girl. I used her more than anyne else, except Cloud. That and she was the only one with her ultiamte limit break. I loved her. And she died. You know, I think a piece of me died when that happened too. *cries*

I cried when Aeris died, too. :( She was definitely my favorite character. I love the cover of the game, how she seems to be watching over them from the ground while they are in the airship (though she had died before they had ever gotten around to using the airship).
And then they made it even more sad by the music they played.

oh god yes. that music just made it hurt so much more.
OH, and I also though that the music to Cid was pretty awesome. It was totally heroic. And being able to play Tifa's piano was cool.
I'm having a fun time trying to remember all the characters actual names, because I renamed them all, and it's just weird. Aeris I never forgot, and Cloud, and Tifa. but the rest... :p
EDIT: and the Resident Evil music. It was so haunting and scary, but beautiful too. My favorite part was when you have to play 'moonlight sonata' to unlock the door. that was fantastic. :D

Final Fantasy takes wayyyyyy too long. I could never get into it. My roommate from last year used to play it about 5 hours a day and I have no idea how or why he did. Not only that, he'd play all of the PS2 FF games over and over. It boggled my mind. Yes. Boggled it.
The best video game music though came from an old Sega Genesis game called comix zone. If anyone remembers this game, you know I'm right!

Anyway im gonna go back to playing the game. i love that scene with yuna and the underwater funeral where she starts dancing on the water. SO AROUSING! lol... :D

the music in halo IS AWESOME i agree!
in the silent cartographer, when youre underground and things start going to shit, on the way back up you know?
the music, if you listen, has this totally SWEET guitar solo going through it ..
its cool, we can only have 1 channel of audio plugged in b'c we're too cheap to buy a y adapter so you get a unique type of music depending on whether you plug the red or white in.. but.. yeah. its awesome.

I know! I was shocked at the guitar playing in it. It was like, damn. That's probably why I would always have to go play guitar after I played Halo. Insipration. Nothing like good guitar instrumentals too inspire you. The drumming is pretty wicked in Halo too. Very tribal. It's just one of the best game soundtracks I've heard. I hope Halo 2 sticks with the same music director.

Yeah, FFX is awesome...as I posted earlier, some of my favorite video game music comes from that game. Well, all the Final Fantasies in general.
Seymour scares me. He's kind of a rip-off of Sephiroth, I think, but Sephiroth was cooler. Seymour has scary hair.
And yes, they are addicting. All of them. I've been known to play literally all day (that is, from the time I woke to the time I went to bed, which was way late). Bleh.
But, most RPGs are like that.
Zone of the Enders has my Fav. Music from a game.
I'm looking to buy the CD actually. Not all the songs, but maybe half of them I am in love with.

Any of you guys have an X-box, and are looking forward to Fable? I don't think this has anything to do with music, besides my hope that it's good, but this RPG, if it plays good, could be the most addicting RPG ever. I don't think I should buy it during school. I'll never stop playing, and there's nothing like failing because you are playing a video game. That's something I wouldn't want to have to explain to my scholarship people. 'yeah...missed everyday. Why you ask? Because Elfy was getting chased by some orcs, and I needed to have him rescue his daughter from the evil Master Nymph."

Everytime I read anything about this game, it makes me already addicted. That can't be good. I'm positive it will have good music. they've been spending SO much time on it, it can't suck. Anyway, Xbox needs more RPGs. This will be good for it.
If you couldn't tell already, I'm really really really craving new RPGs to play. I don't know why, because everytime a new one comes out I curse myself because it's sooo daaamn long and I can't break away from its grip. And then when the game is finally over, I feel nostalgic for the story and characters.
That's another thing. They need more RPGs that are direct sequels of each other. :)

Why can't they have a direct sequal to FFVII? The ending blew. I had no idea what happened. I always wanted to hope that Tifa and Cloud got together, but for all we know, Cloud went on missing Aeris, and commited suicide. Ok, that probably didn't happen, but if I can fall so hard for her, I'm sure someone who actually knew her, and was...you know...animated...had a stronger connection to her. The ending to FF IX was cool. Although FF VIII was one of the best endings to a game I've played. You know, The FF series is the only RPG's I've ever played all the way through. I've played a LOT, but there's seem to have the best stories. Although, I always wanted to play Chrono Cross, but never did. I need to get a PS2. They have so many good looking RPG's. We'll see. I think I should save up my time and energy for Halo 2 and Fable, but what will I do until then? :p

Yes, you do need to get a PS2. Hehe. Chrono Cross is amazing, and I can't believe you've never played it! It also has some of the best music of a video game, in my opinion. You're missing out on a lot... :)

Definitely Xenogears. But, if you have a regular PlayStation already, you can play Xenogears and Chrono Cross on it because those are both PSX games. I liked Dark Cloud (for PS2), but I didn't like the looks of the second one. The graphics look too cartoony...but, who knows, it could be a really good story.
Alundra and Wild Arms are also two of my favorite RPGs for PSX.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, but I really really like the music from the Dragon Ball Z games on SNES.

Theme of Laura (opening song from SH2) is the best, followed by Silent Hill (opening song from SH1), followed by I Want Love (studio mix) (from SH3).

Zone of the Enders has my Fav. Music from a game.
Oooh yes, I loved the music during the end credits.
Also, the main theme, for ZOE2 is quite catchy :D
Arghhhh but how could I forget when I was talking about FF music. I really love Beatrix's theme from FFIX. And also 'You Are Not Alone' :)
Edit: From FFVIII, the music playing during the scene where SeeD lands on the beach for their field exam.

I love the music from Silent Hill Series and Twisted Metal: Black, but my all time favourite piece of game music was the opening sequence music from Final Fantasy VIII. I <33333 that piece of music. Edea's theme from the same game is amazing too. Edea kicks ass!

Definitely Xenogears. But, if you have a regular PlayStation already, you can play Xenogears and Chrono Cross on it because those are both PSX games. The first Xenogears ruled, especially Creid soundtrack. As for Xenosaga, I didn't find it nearly as good, and then there is the second Xenosaga, which isn't even the same person making the music.. :( Good things never last I guess.
Alundra and Wild Arms are also two of my favorite RPGs for PSX.I haven't played Alundra much yet, but I used to be in love with Wild Arms, and Morning Journey is a pretty sweet song. :D
Star Ocean and The Dig soundtracks are way underrated, in my opinion. I don't know if any of you have actually played or remember the game Dig, but if you did, you'd understand what I am talking about. The composer is Michael Land, and it is probably some of the best videogame music I have ever listened too.. I'm just saying. ;) <is getting old or something>

I haven't even touched Xenosaga. Mostly because I didn't realize it was a sequal to Xenogears. I thought it was at first, but looked on the back and decided it had nothing to do with Xenogears and was just a rip-off. Anyway, I'll take your word for it, and continue to ignore it. :)

Ok...I've played Wild Arms 2, and that was pretty cool. I never got to finish it though, because my brother erased my memory card...ass...I was at the final dungeon on FFVII too. He did that twice. So I never let him play FF, tomb Raider, or any of my X-box games. He was sorry. ;)
Is Alundra the game with a crazy amount of characters that you can have join your party. Like 32 or something? That looked good. I have also heard good things about Xenogears. I'll go look into that. Thanks!
Oh, and I have played Dark Cloud once, and that was cool as hell.

No Alundra was the one where you only get one character. And he has the power to go into people's dreams. I remember that game now, it was so awesome. :)
I love Dark Cloud :D The only problem I had with it is that the dungeons were so repetitive. Dark Chronicle (the sequel) is also really cool, but there's so much in it that it's almost overwhelming lol. I sort of stopped playing that one. The animation in it kicks ass ;)

My brother did that to my Xenogears game...the first time I got to the very end of it, he ended up saving over it with Spyro the Dragon. He knew better than to use my memory card, which had my name on it. :) So I deleted his entire Megaman X game, of which he had gotten so far in. He actually cried about it...then I got in trouble. I did feel bad about it and it was kinda mean...

Alundra is about a boy who has this ability to go into people's nightmares and save them from them. I thought it was really cool.
Xenogears is VERY good- and sorta rare. I gotta when it came out. Its one of the lesser known Squaresoft masterpieces. Mostly, all you see are Final Fantasy, but Xenogears is really a nice change of games.
Anyway, I like the music from Parasite Eve, Wild Arms 3, and Metal Gear Solid 2
MGS2 has some real epic and a great soundtrack to it for whatever part in the game is- its awesome. I would sometimes pause the game to listen to the music.

I loved it. My favourite weapon was the flail. That thing rocked ;)
And also, at the start there was that little intro thing, that showed different scenes, and had such cool music. I used to watch that over and over.
Edit: Gah, I'm stupid lol. It's been in my posts the whole time. Devil May Cry :D Those games had some cool music. Some gothic, organy, spooky type stuff for atmosphere, and then some rocking music for the fights. :)

That is one hella fetch premise. I'm really going to look for this game. So, I've got Alundra, Dark Cloud and Xenogears on the list, since I've played Wild Arms. Then Halo 2 comes out, and Fable. Yeah...I'm gonna fail out of school. :p
You know what game had wicked music...Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball. It was so horribly poppy, that it was good. I swear, that game was totally addicting. It was like the sims...but good. I dont know, or think I've mentioned the soundtrack to Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. Absolutely awesome game and great music....though the ending was very much a downer. The second one looked a whole lot prettier and while very good, didnt quite out do the original.
I also cant forget the music from Gunvalkyrie. The game is insane. I love the music from the Naglfar's Pit level....has a very creepy lullaby thing going on.

Dunno if anyone's heard of it, but I just finished the game Beyond Good and Evil the other day on XBOX and that had some pretty damn good music. It was very cinematic and they did a good job at making it follow the story. For example if a character dies you'll hear very melancholy music, etc.

Wow, cool idea for a thread. Normally, I'd be spilling out with favorites, but I can't think straight right now :-/. Maybe because it's 1:30 am? Anyway, Final Fantasy 6 (3 in the u.s.) had some very memorable and well-composed tunes; especially impressive considering that it was programmed for a 16-bit system in midi format. The theme from Morrowind was pretty good. On Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jeremy Soule did an excellent job of composing all-original music that captured the soul (no pun intended) of the original Star Wars score. Ack!! My mind is blank... I apolgize.

Off the top of my head, my video game experience has been thus far in three major sections -
Sega Mega Drive (Genesis)
Microsoft Xbox
My faves on Sega were the Sonic The Hedgehog series. I'm a total mark for Sonic. Sonic 2 is one of the best games of all time. Also had a great soundtrack through the games, not forever repetitive and boring like most games. First Jurassic Park game brings back fond memories.
My faves on Xbox would be Halo, for starters. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer series of games' music have been right up there too so far.
However I don't get much time to play games and don't have much money to spend on em either :(

Well, the Xbox lets you rip tracks from CDs and play them instead of the soundtrack on some games.
Or maybe he just turns the TV down and plays them instead. But thats missing out on a lot of great music. :p

Final Fantasies probably have the best music cuz there epic and their great scores. Some songs ring similarily to Hans Zimmer.
Vice City kicks ass too
I like the Vice City soundtrack, Parasite Eve 2 and Final Fantasy.

... you have my attention. ill have to look into those. anything specific i should check for?
problem is there are a lot of ripoffs of his style. then again, i think he also teaches rising composers, so naturaly they tend to mimick the style of their teacher. could be theyre the ones i keep hearing. hes getting to be kind of a Rembrant of the music industry.
the theme to metal gear solid is a good example of ripping him off. its close, but the dead giveaway is the lack of electric guitars. every time he goes for that kind of militant mood, he always uses the guitars somewhere. if i remember correctly, MGS2 (i think it was 2) didnt have that.
another great score that's been ripped off countless times is that if Crimson Tide. if i had a nickle for very trailer or commercial that had a butchered attempt to sound like CT, id make Bill Gates look like a pauper.
back to the video game music, the trailer music to Devil May Cry 3 was great. i usualy cant stand anything that boarders on rap or punk, but for some reason that broke that taboo and made a fast trip to my favorites list.

I love all of the Final Fantasy soundtrack.... the guy who compose them is a genius! Those songs are so beautiful and easy to listen, it's the only music without lyrics that I listen to!
And I also love the soundtrack of Castlevania Symphony of the Night and all the soundtrack from Zelda.

i agree, i think final fantasy has by far, the best soundtrack. i have the actual instrumental songs downloaded, and they are all so beautiful. btw, the composer for the final fantasy soundtracks is named Nobuo Uematsu

Well, Metal Gear Solid 2's theme was composed by Henry Gregson Williams, a lot of his stuff his really reminiscent of Zimmer's and I could hear the similaritys far more in MGS2 than in MGS.
Also, if you're looking for a Final Fantasy soundtrack to look for, I'd recommend the Grand Finale disc of Final Fantasy 6. It's selected tracks from the overall soundtrack, but done with full orchestra, friggin beautiful stuff. NOTHING Uematsu has done since has surpassed that.
You may also want to look into Yasunari Mitsudas work. He composed the soundtracks to Xenogears and Xenosaga among others. His names been thrown around this thread A LOT. IMO he's superior to Uematsu, but thats me. :)
I still vote for Metal Gear Solid 2, and Parasite Eve 1... Well, i dunno if i voted for PE- but now i do. And PE2- both are good. And now, I think Tales of Symphonia is nice...

I like the music from Street Fighter. Some of that old school stuff rocks! Ryu's Theme and the main title theme rock! I like Mortal Kombat music too, not the fucking annoying techno dance one in the movie, but the real, u know, videogame songs. :D

Silent Hill 3 theme song = I Want Love, sang by Melissa Williamson, and composed by Akira Yamaoka. :P The two others were called Letter - From The Lost Days, and Hometown. (NOT sung by Melissa. ;) )
I lurve my Silent Hill music. *snuggles soundtracks*
Same here!
Akira Yamaoka is like my favourite artist, even over Evanescence!
All the Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (Melissa Williamson is just her stage name) songs from Silent Hill 3 OST rule!
The ones from Silent Hill 4 are even better, especially Your Rain and Waiting For You ~"LIVE AT 'Heaven's Night'"~ (unreleased tunes).
My favourite Akira Akire Yamaoka songs would probably be Theme of Laura (from SH2), Silent Hill (from SH1), Waiting For You ~"LIVE AT 'Heaven's Night'"~ (from SH4), I Want Love [Studio Mix] (from SH3), Cradel of Forest (from SH4), True (from SH2) and Tears Of.. (from SH1).

She also sang 'Room of Angel' on SH4, didn't she?
New game music that I'm loving right now is Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. On the soundtrack are two Godsmack songs 'I Stand Alone' and 'Right Out of Line'. It makes the battles even better. :)

If anyone remembers the old commadore 64, then Id say either James Pond 2, Robocod (I think it was on multiple formats though) and Luna C (yeah, it was crappy eightys techno stuff, but it reminds me of a happier time, my childhood.).
From the recent world, I like the music in the F-Zero games, as well as some of the Final Fantasy games and things like The Legend(s) of Zelda.

I love the music from Halo 2. They didn't mess too much with the original themes from the first game, but added so much more cool music. That game is just perfect. :D

Final fantasy music also rocks.

I heard that Halo 2 doesn't even touch the original. Heard the story sucks, the ending sucks, and you don't even get to play as master chief the entire game.
My favorite videogame soundtrack is definatly from Katamari Damacy. That game is so Japanese it hurts, in a good way. It has some of the craziest music ever.

The original doom games!! Knee deep in the dead (demo) had the best music ever!! Alright, Im biased. One of the first, and still one of the best games Ive ever played.
Gotta love the music for the title screen of Jungle Strike & Urban Strike on the Mega Drive or Genasis depending on your village~
Love the battle music from nearlly all the Final Fantasy games~
Hmm... I'm sure I'm missing out some classic amazing soundtracks... old skool retro games have the most addicting music~
