Iesu, Rex admirabilis

O Jesus, King most wonderful!
Thou Conqueror renowned!
Thou Sweetness most ineffable!

Field of Innocence
I still remember the world
From the eyes of a child
Slowly those feelings
Were clouded by what I know now
Where has my heart gone
An uneven trade for the real world
I want to go back to
Believing in everything and knowing nothing at all
I still remember the sun
Always warm on my back
Somehow it seems colder now
Where has my heart gone
Trapped in the eyes of a stranger
I want to go back to
Believing in everything
Iesu (Jesu), Rex amirabilis
Et triumphator nobilis
Dulcedo ineffabilis
Totus desiderabilis

After the second choir Ben says the following lines on the background:
As the years pass by before my face
As wars rage before me
Finding myself in these last days of existence
This parasite inside me I forced it out
In the darkness of the storm
Lies an evil
But it's me
(I remember it being somewhere, but now it seems like that info is gone)

I think I have come to a conclusion on how Evanecence got the idea for this song. In school today for my English mid-term, I had to read an article on the basis of "Field of Dreams" inspired by a man's experience and so on...Anyway, throughout the article it kept saying the field on a "Velvet-Heated" sunny summer's day was a place of innocence to reminisce, thus the title, 'Field of Innocence," and the lyrics, " I still remember the world...eyes of a child...I still remember the sun always warm on my back." Cool, huh? Just think about it??? Anyway, I will try the best I can to get the article from my teacher to post here. It was freaky. I never did finish my test because I too was "reminiscing.";)

The song is about missing the carefree times of childhood... I don't think they got the idea from that article, I think it's just a coincidence.
Who knows though, you could be right. Or maybe they came up with the idea for the song first and later came across the imagery in that article or some article like it.

O wow, I know most of you might know this but if you listen/play to the intro of FoI half the speed it become Demise...Haha, David Hodges and his electronics me thinks! ME and my friend were just messing around the the timing and we were like "OMG! IT'S DEMISE!"....we're sad people

Ok, guys. Take 'field of innocence' file and put it on Window movie maker, and save it as a movie file. When you've done that put the movie file back onto Movie maker and right click and press on Video Effects, then scroll down to 'Slow down, half' and click ok. Then play! It's Demise I tells ya!

I thought I'd posted to this thread but obviously not. I did as you instructed and halved the speed of Field of Innocence and my jaw dropped when I heard what was playing. It is definately Demise.
Anyways, I took it one step further and doubled the speed of Demise so that I had a longer intro of Field of Innocence. It's not the same but it's near enough.
Don't you just love it when bands do this kind of thing?

Yeah, it was almost serial. Have you tried doubling the speed of My Immortal? That it actually so so pretty...but it sounds nothing like it, honestly! 'Anywhere', doubled speed, has to be the best, but that's a different story, for a different forum, lol....

Nah, I'm not like the My Immortal double speed version, possiby the instrumental version tho'. I actually prefer slowing fast songs down rather than speeding slow songs up. Such as Anything For You, slowed down by 15. If you can't do that with the program you have then type in Audacity in google and use that program, it's really good.

They said this on LeoLyrics.com. And that's not what he says, at least below is what I hear.
"As the days pass by,
Before my face.
As wars rage before me.
Finding myself,
These last days of existence,
Of my own country.
This parasite,
I forced it out,
The darkness of the storm,
Is me."

Or you can do it an easir way and put it in Windows Media Player 10 and click on the white button, go down to show enhancements, and go to play speed settings, and then put it at whatever speed.

Do you mean instrumentals or the actual songs?
what is Demise? is it some kind of electronic effect or something?
"Desmise" is the name of an Evanescence song. It's the bass guitar part at the end of "Eternal."

One of the most meaningful songs from Evanescence, IMO.
I felt connected to this song from the very first time I listened to it. I think of it as an eye-opener song, a reality check. It's a wake-up call from all those lies and fantasies we believed as children, when the world used to be so much simpler.
For me, it's much more than just a song, it's a reflection of a part of my life.
I used to believe in many things that I don't really believe in now. Sometimes, it would be so much easier to keep on believing in them but it would just be a lie, a beautiful lie.
Would you rather live a beautiful lie or an awful truth? Sometimes it's not as easy as one thinks. ;)

This is my very favorite Ev song and after a million listens it can still make me cry. It reminds me of my childhood...before the something horrible happened that stole it all away. It is like a breath of much needed air.

IAW Mythfairy. I really love this song a lot, even more so recently than ever before. It just keeps getting better IMO! The more I listen to it, the more I can get out of it, at least for me.
Field of Innocence probally one of the best Evanescence ballads right next to Hello and My Immortal I like the Acustic guitar in it and the choir makes the song spooky :) in a good way love it
Lol. And people were making a big deal over this at EvThreads. Lol.

I totally agree with both of you. In fact, just from talking about this song I get urges to listen to it again. It's really one of their deepest songs (along with other old ones; like Give Unto Me) and I'm greatful to have found it. I just listen to it and go into a sort of melancholic trance; beautiful but really depressing at the same time.

Isn't it amazing what this song says? When we're children, we don't know about the insane and cruel world out there, we're only aware that we're happy and safe in our "Field Of Innocence'. But as we grow older, we lose our innocence to that world out there. What we once trusted we learn is a lie and that we can only REMEMBER the world from the eyes of children. Suddenly, we know that we cannot gain that innocence back. I love the music and I love the lyrics, they tell the truth about every human here on this earth; We all were in the field of innocence and then lost it.

Can't really imagine anyone who wouldn't be able to relate to this song, and i completely agree with Mythfairy, it's really hard to grapple between living a lie and facing up to the truth.
This song also seems to be an acknowlegement of never being able to go back, to regain what you've lost, because this world inevitably grinds you down and makes cynics out of everyone, although you desperately want to believe again, some things are painfully irreversible. :(

The first time I heard this song and I head the line "Oh I want to go back to believing in everything and knowing nothing at all" tears sprung to my eyes! I completely understand what she's talking about in this song. I wish I had the faith that I had back when I was a child. I can remember being so innocent, believing there was a world of possibilities before me. As I got older those possibilities became things that were only called fantasy by my father. I had a lot of dreams and ambitions that came crashing down after I left childhood just because I realize the reality of them and couldn't believe anymore.
