Ok I am surprised that Brian (DMW) hasn't posted this one yet, so I have the honor.

this band is great you can check them out at www.passerbymusic.com

Another hard rock chick, really great riffs, and vocals......

and they are very nice. The just sent me their demo cd, and I can't get enough of it, and I hate that it is only four songs long!

Check them out.

(Brian you better get in here and back me up)

O.K. . .I brought this back because this is a very good local band out of my area, female fronted hard-rock that I think people on this forum would REALLY like. . .Check em out. I know that Ben really seemed to dig em when they opened for Evanescence in Houston.

I think you should check em out David, they have a fabulous stage show and their singer is SOOOO tiny, but she's got this HUGE voice man. . .I think they're great, you might like em.

I'll definatley see what I can do about getting by butt there....any idea about what time they might be on stage, I hope I dont get into town to late, I'm gonna try to make it. (I'm at school right now, and have to stay for an opening for a little while). If I miss their performance, which I hope I dont, it'd still be nice to pic up some manner of merchadise. :)

But if I do make it, I'll have on black or blue carpenter jeans and a new orleans tshirt with a print of a girl w/a saxophone no the back.

The Engine Room has them down for Oct. 4th. I have no gallery openings to attend and I have no work that day, NOTHING will keep me from seeing them.

the engine room show got hosed due to schedule conflicts. they've been to new york and back twice and then did another showcase at the new music festival in dallas about 2 - 3 weeks ago, positive results. the 2000 ep that they had been passing out at shows has been replaced by much higher quality tracks recorded this summer / fall with will holland recorded in pro tools and mixed in nuendo in austin. i believe they've tracked 5 - 6 songs with him now. they actually almost bumped into evanescence when they were in new york but sameer accidentally erased ben's # in his phone or something... some kind of miscommunication.

if you're in texas you should get on their mailing list and drive to the next close show. it's worth it.

also, check out runtentertainment.com. gabriel colbert manages all the booking for passerby and they have better info on dates there. there's also a funny picture of gabe with evanescence on the site under the media section i think...

i was outside at that show in houston for like 12 hours and met evanescence when they showed up. amy gave me an orange for lunch. heheh.

I'm listening to "Life" right now. I'm really loving the music, but having some trouble with the vocals. Sometimes it just gets a little too all over the place for my liking. Maybe it's something I just have to get used to... because I do like the music a lot. I wish there were more audio samples.

I think to truly appreciate Passerby, they need to be witnessed live. They are SUCH a dynamic live band, very mesmerizing. Incidentally, I have an old version of Cassie that Lacey (from Passerby) did before she joined the band and lemme tell ya, it's QUITE different :P

hopefully "who" will come back to DFW soon??? If you're talking about Passerby, there's a GREAT possibility that they will return here soon (the play in DFW alot) anyway, yeah. . .they opened for Eva on March 4'th in Houston, they left so much of an impression on Ben that he made a post specifically about them on the O-boards back when they were still up and running.)

yeah, this is your advance warning. they are in the middle of *going somewhere*. it's already happening mind you. so... send stuff into your radio stations and nag them to play it. they probably won't, but nagging helps.

the show in dallas was awesome, very high energy. can't wait to see them this coming weekend. and i found out what happened with the misunderstanding when they were in new york. a chick from bmi mentioned evanescence was in town so sameer called ben and he said they were having a party since fallen went double plat and that passerby should come hang out. but sameer being the sameer forgot to get the address and wasn't ever able to get a hold of him again, so they wandered around new york until 4 in the morning trying to find this place. crazy.

it was a pretty good show. decent mix. after them, hollister fracus played, which was kind of funny. these kids that are barley 20 rocked the place way more professionally than the 40-somethings whose cd release party the whole thing was. heheh.

there are good shows coming up next month...

Yeah, as has already been said: They opened at the Fallen cd release party @ The Engine Room. I've repeatedly kicked myself for being unable to attend :x ! Plus, Ben Moody gave them a shout out on the O-board following the show. ANYWAYS, next time they play at Java Jazz, I'm there! (Just gotta see Sameer's vintage Peavey amp in action!) Anybody from the board want to come too? I'd be interested in meeting some of you guys. ;)

Oh, and to you guys who haven't heard them before, Life isn't their greatest song (In my opinion anyway). Check out their demo (Broken Wings).

I would definitely have to agree with that assessment. Passerby has a killer live show and Lacy has some serious pipes on her (i.e. she can wail!!!!!!) Anyway, I needa go see em play again sometime. great band, love em (but I could just be biased cause they're friends, then again, maybe not))

Well, like how the album is coming along, what songs are going to be on it, and where they are going to be playing shows now.

As for JJ, there used to be several VERY good bands there that were not punk at all. ie. Fed by Ravens (now called Four Star Union, my friends too!), Glass Intrepid, Ibis, and the like. It used to be where Saturday almost always had really good bands. That seems like a rarer thing now :( . Hmmm, speaking of venues... do you know of any good ones in the Houston area? Brenham, TX just isn't really the best place for my band to play. The town's way too country/hip hop.

klaarn
01-18-2004, 05:19 PM
well, as far as songs go, i'm sure we can expect to see red sam, cassie, and breathe today. ocean waves, penholder, whispering fingertips, so i thought are also likely to show up. i've also heard two new songs they've written that should be heard at upcoming shows.

as for the album that's still a ways off. i think the next thing on the agenda is a label backed ep to shop producers and distribution. there's a new york trip planned for the end of february.

not sure about shows. i'll try to find more info out on that.

Heh, too bad he left this board . ToB said something that offended him.

welll, soon everybody will know when they hear them on the radio... speaking of which, clearchannel had a closet-cleaning / restaffing effort going on with the buzz and a few other stations, and i've been in austin so i don't know how all that played out but i'm glad to hear some local music is still getting played. hopefully we can expect to hear more passerby on more stations during peak times.

so many cool musical things going on right now. billycogran.com is up now... i'd be interested to see what ben does but this avrille (sp?) thing makes me scratch my head a little... "sk8r boi?" i mean, come on... the world only has so many barf bags, and when you look at artists like corgan, reznor, and maynard... i dunno... i just guess if it were me i'd choose a little higher quality group of artists to work with instead of the wickid "punk rocker" pop star type. bleh.

some bands these days are so ridiculous. the music, the stlye, it's all the same. it's what people used to be cut down and critized for...check out http://www.briandeneke.org/index.html ..he was murdered for what is now the 'cool' way to dress/look. so many people think that averil<idk how to spell it> is a 'punk' rocker. this is definitly NOT punk! punk is the ramones or the sex pistols. now days, if you have the look and can play 3 different chords over and over, you're a punk rocker!

yet another thing i love about passerby. they're different than everyone else. they have their own stlye and way of thinking. the music is so much better than the rest of this..well..crap.. and has so much more meaning and feeling put in to it. yeah, i could go on and on about the whole punk thing and i could do the same with rap<UGH!> but i gotta go finish some homework...blah on school!! :x

Really the only thing good about JJ is that you are really close to the bands when they play, which , in the case of passerby, is good and bad. Good cuz it's an awesome show, bad, cuz if your not careful you can have a guitar in the face. And a lot of people know about it so it's a good plavce to get a following. but the ticket prices are waay too expensicve for my tastes.

Ok, my questions to anyone who cares to answer: When is Passerby going to record their album? Are they doing anymore shows closely following the Sin-E concert in NY? Did DMW abandon this thread?

I'm going to see them at Sam Houston State on the 18th. It's so incredible that they're opening for Blindside and the venue only holds 500 people! It's a sell-out for sure. My friends are going because of Blindside but I'm sure they'll love Passerby. So Aaron, any word on when the CD is coming out?

So Aaron, any word on when the CD is coming out?

well... i can't say too much specifically about that. suffice to say that you should expect to see them on tour internationally within the next year before you hear them on the radio.

they did record a 4 track ep which should be surfacing before the end of the summer (if i had to speculate) and there may be other material popping up here and there in one form or another.

Ok, this is a new thread for the band Flyleaf (formerly known as Passerby). I started a new thread to make it easier for people searching for the band since the name "Passerby" will no longer work.
They are based in Temple, Tx and consist of two guitars, bass, drums, and an awesome female lead singer. You can listen to two of their songs at www.flyleafmusic.com (http://www.octonerecords.com/flyleaf.html). These are of off the recently recorded EP. Anyway, the forced name change was unfortunate, but the rock continues. Long live Flyleaf!!! \m/

I just saw these guys open up for Saliva and Earshot in Baton Rouge, and I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when their set was done. I went and bought 2 copies of their cd, got a poster, and proceeded to leave the building so I could find them. They were all really cool and I got them to sign my stuff while chatting. I got their only setlist signed by everyone too :D Evanescence is the only other band I've felt that way about when I first heard them. I hope they make it big. Sameer was really friendly, and Lacey seemed a little shy but very very nice and friendly. The other guys were pretty busy packing things up. Lacey seemed to have some stagefright at times, but the crowd was immensely supportive... moreso than I've ever seen for an unheard of opening band. They were cheering like the main act was walking out on stage. So yeah... my opinion needed to be heard on this :)

Haha, that's awesome man. I didn't know they played over there. Right now, I have a mixed feelings of support and envy for them since it seems that they're doing extremely well after getting signed and everything. Lacey does seem kinda shy at times but that's just her personality. It's a change from the loud, boisterous, cocky rock star type. Heh, it's a different story when she's singing though.;) Sameer is probably the band's most musically talented person playing an instrument. They have a pretty supportive fan base, too. I'd imagine a few people made the drive from Texas to that show; it wouldn't suprise me at all. Anyway, glad you liked them:) .

I believe a certain member of a certain band suggested this band as one of the greatest he's seen other than the band they got their drummer and guitarist from, and that everyone should check them out. The day after a certain CD release ;)

I refrained from saying any names seeing as how this is the first time I've been on and posting since he left, and I wasn't sure what the general concensis(sp?) was around here.

They truly do rock, and I've been great friends with them since that show. THey all rock at what they do, some of the greaest talent I've seen today in a band.

Yeah it is, its their first one off of Octone. It has Red Sam, Breathe Today, I'm Sorry, and Cassie.

IMO, it's a good CD, nothing of theirs isn't. But I like the original mixes of the songs, not this new, pop/rock producer crap. And according to a couple of the band memebers, they agree.

But it's still worth it. The songs automatically rock no matter how they are heard.

I also would like to see on the EP a sample of some of their other talent, like Broken Wings or So I Thought. If all you ever heard was the 4 songs that are on it, I don't think you'd have a clear idea of some of the music they write. I think it would help broaden the fanbase to include something of the sort.

This is playing out just like Ev in the beginning. Confusion about the christian band thing with the stores they're in, stations they're on, etc. It's just a non-issue really... they make their music and it's out there for what it is. The band has personally told me in a conversation (which they don't mind everyone else knowing) that they're definitely not trying to be marketed as a "christian band", the same way ev was. I think it's an issue worth ignoring :)

But it shouldn't matter if they're Christian or not, just as long as you like the music. And what do you mean by "don't ask"? Just wondering.

That might defeat the purpose of not asking ;)

Hope that didn't come off as too gruff or anything. Just informative. :)

Just came back from the show about an hour ago. I got to talk to quite a few people in the Flyleaf camp. I got to talk to them and stuff. They are REALLY REALLY nice people. EXTREMELY humble and down to earth. I wish them all the best. I wish I had pictures but DO have this.

It's funny that you mention that because when the people that I was hanging out with (Tracie, TheOriginalSin (Heidi), and Lazarus (Alberto) got their stuff sign, apparently one of the members put Jesus Loves _________ on the insert. Jesus doesn't love me though :-/

By the way, they were absolutely amazing last night.

The band as a whole was outta control. I think it was Jared that was jumping and dancing around. I've seen animated guitar players before, but holy shit he was playing guitar like if he were on fire.

I also saw Sameer getting into the berserk action a bit. But moreso Pat and Jared.

Awesome set. :D

uhhhhhhhhhhh, that's news to me. . .maybe not a Christian band per se' but the members are DEFINITELY Christian. Haha, my thoughts EXACTLY. Yes, they are definitely Christians and aren't ashamed to say so. No, they won't force any beliefs on you, but if you want to talk to them about the subject, they are more than willing to do so. Yes, they do more than write songs solely about God (give them a little credit guys;) ). Bottom line, this is an excellent band regardless of your faith. The music speaks for itself.

Saw the band last night with CFW, tracie, and original sin they sounded pretty good but of course I was kinda drunk at the time... damn that senor tequila for seducing me....A few songs reminded me of Avril with a much harder band...well um thats it and remember to get through like all you need keep in mind is that you are not special to anyone in anyway and jesus doesn't love you...

One more thing about the Flyleaf set. When I saw Flyleaf, I saw people fly. I guess crowdsurfing has lost its luster :-/

To put the whole Christian controversy to rest, their song "Breathe Today" apparently went for Christian rock adds in October. And the song/band has been gaining momentum since then.

Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that although I'm afraid we'll have an Evanescence-esque controversy on our hands.

They tend to do that though:

Fly from NY to Amsterdam for $99*

($99 is the price from one point, one way to another. If you are going from NY-Berlin-Amsterdam roundtrip it will cost you $396+$500 in taxes and other applicable fees. Flights must be booked between the hours of 3-4pm on 12/19/04 EST and the departure day must be on 1/8/04 between the hours of 6-8pm. Departure home must occur 3.5 days later between the hours of 7-9am.

Okay people, I've talked with ToB, Sas, and Flyleaf about this for some clarity. My statement is this: Flyleaf is more diverse than what you can hear in internet samples, and if you'd like to get a better idea of what the full scope of their sound is, then you can send me a private message. I will be more than happy to assist you. :)

Now with the extra activity I thought it'd be a good idea to bring this back up as a reminder in case anyone missed it. Spreading the word is my pleasure :)

Also I want to point out again that aside from the record label's site at http://www.flyleafmusic.com, the main fan site where the band prefers to post and such is http://www.flyleaffans.com. The website is a bit messed up at the moment, but the basics are there and they're working on it. The forum however is working fine at http://www.flyleaffans.com/forum

As a long time fan and friend I can NOT wait until these guys bloq up huge!!! I got something only a select few have, it's a live recording of an early version of the song "Cassie" (this was several years before Passerby/Flyleaf even came into existence) It's quite a bit different, almost ballad like whereas the Flyleaf version is pretty much "balls out" Little bit of trivia, when Lacey talks about Cassie nowadays she says it's about the Columbine shootings (I can see the logic in that due to the fact that ALOT of people know about it) But when she debuted it, she said it was about a shooting that happened at a local church out here during a youth service (a guy who played bass for my band was at that church the night it happened, freaked him out.) Anyway, I "might" be pursuaded to put it up for a little while if I can find a place to host it or to stream it from (so people can listen to it but not download)

I'm kind of wondering something, though. I wonder if I'll have to wait a while, untill Fly Leaf comes here to Ohio? I'll keep my eye out. A little story here...

My friend comes up to me and says "I have to tell you about this band, I think you'd like them, they sound like Evanescence." And I said "Flyleaf" and she said yeah and that she's been telling a lot of people around our school about them. So yay for Flyleaf, I get the feeling they're gonna get pretty big.

I love the live versions of the songs on http://www.flyleaffans.com. Does anyone know if those are gonna be the songs on the full length album?

I really don't think that flyleaf sounds anything like ev. They are a totally different sound. I agree with Teh DMW, I have respect for her standing in her faith. Its great.

I've listened to a few of their songs and so far I love this band! I can't stop watching the video for Breathe Today and the live videos on flyleaffans.com! I must get the EP! Maybe I'll go with my friend to a Christian book store sometime and see if it's there (seeing as she goes there all the time, she listens to a lot of Christian pop) seeing as somewhere in the thread someone said they saw it in one of those... If it's not there I'm ordering it, I need to have it!

And even though I've only heard a few songs from them, even I can tell you that the only thing really similar between Ev and Flyleaf is that they're female fronted rock bands.

I agree completley. They don't sound anything like Evanescence, but that's a good thing. I don't like when too many of my favorite bands sound the same. One thing that attracts me to a band, is a different sound. Flyleaf defiatley brings that to the table, and I'm truly getting into this band. I'm loving everything that I have heard, and they really rock hard.

I'm really mad that I just learned that they were in Ohio THREE times, and I didn't know! I can't belive I didn't know! Oh well, They'll be back. I'm sure of that! :D

I thought I wouldn't like Flyleaf, but after hearing "Cassie"...whoa. This band is obviously really talented, I think I will buy their album when it comes out.

I've started promoting Flyleaf. I'm hoping that it will pay off, so far I've let people know about them in these places:

-AOL Message Boards

-AOL Chat rooms, Rock, etc.

-I've told my friends

-I've made some PROMOTIONAL BANNERS, AVS, ETC. I'll host these on PHOTOBUCKET, ASAP!

-I'm going to make a Flyleaf fansite, and put the link in my AOL Profile, etc. So all of my friends can check them out. So, it's kind of like a circle. If my friends like them, they can tell others about the band, etc.

That's cool. Sounds like you are really passionate about them. Why don't you sign up for the street team and get some SWAG sent to your house ?

I'm going to join the street team, tonight. After I'm done cleaning up my desktop, I'll go and sign up.

I do like this band, I see them getting big. That's why I'm so excited, and promoting them like crazy. I just see alot of talent generating from this band, and I have a really great feeling about them. I don't know, just something about them. I can't pin-point it. But, I know it's there!

Well you live in another country I see. It could get hard trying to find the EP. Maybe someone on the board would be willing to hook you up like they did with Sas.

Yeah I got the EP from the Christian bookstore here. I am going to call tomorrow and have them order like 5 more for me because I would like to have some unopened ones and also maybe help some people out here who cant find the EP. But yeah, I don't think you will find it in any other stores then a Christian bookstore. Don't take my word on that though. It was 3.99 btw.

Thanks Minah. I'm calling 'The Bookery' tomrrow. That's the only Christian book store that I know of around here. Hopefully they'll have it. If not, I'm sure they can order it.

Are you sure that your not Chris? Because I totally see the resemblance! :p

(I'm so sarcastic today! No offence, either Aminah. All in fun! ;) )

Sometimes I swear she is lying when she says she has a vagina.

Anyway, back to subject. Isn't it crazy that people are already trying to make money off of flyleaf when you can get this stuff for free ?

That's pathetic. Can't the Publisher of posters and stuff like that Copyright it? Or put a Patent on it, so people can't do that? =/ If they could, they should. I would. I'd be so freakin' mad if someone did that to something I made.
