I think it shouldn't. American football is only played professionally in US (as far as I now), therefore is not a universal sport. On the olympic games only sports that are played worldwide enter the competition.

Hmm...does anybody outside the US really play football? should football be an olympic sport? y or y not. I think it should and it would be the most popular sport and would be great to watch.
I'd have to disagree. At the very least, considering the rapid fanaticism that surrounds futbol--what we Americans call soccer--I'd have to say that soccer would definately beat football in worldwide popularity.

Yeh I'd have to agree. I don't really think it's popular enough worldwide to be considered for the olympics. Beyond the U.S., Canada and the European League, who actually plays it? I imagine others do, but I don't think I've heard of it.

I think that its played in other countries, but not at anywhere near the level of the NFL except in Canada and Europe, and even then its not nearly what it is here.
Soccer definately wins the popularity contest once you set foot outside of the US.

There is a European Football League, but it isn't all that popular and is more like a development league for the NFL.

American sports can't seem to get enough of foreign recruits...
example: baseball

Baseball's pretty popular around the world. Not as popular as some sports, but it's definitely played in most places. But I don't think American football is played much in other countries. Rugby maybe.

Yeah, plus it uses mostly American players so they wouldn't be able to represent Europe anyway.
PS - Cowboys suck ass!

Yeah, trampoline pretty much sucked, but at least it was more worldwide. A
football event in the Olympics would be DOMINATED by the US and the few
countries that actually play it professionally. It just wouldn't be fair.

What comes to mind right now is the US basketball team, which SUCKED in the Olympics (as far as I've heard).

I doubt it would happen anyways, aren't they trying to cut down on the amount of sports in the Olympics?
