Hi Amy, I was hoping i would have met you at the Corpus Christi, Tx show this past Aug., but i didn't get to. Grr. So i'm going to ask here and i hope you reply. I wanted to know what your favorite Tori Amos songs are and why. I am a huge fan of Tori and i know you are too. Her newest dvd concert is out and its amazing! Have you seen it? Okay well another question i wanted to ask is about Bjork! What are some things that you are influenced by? I always find her style to be one, she's very different in that area, which is why i love her. I wanted to ask you about these two artists because i know you like them both. I put you along with these two women, because i find you with the same brillance and talent. I'll also add that..I know how you always say that you wouldn't be here without your fans, well alot of people, including me, wouldn't be here if it wasn't for your music. Just thought I'd say that and i hope to see you on your next tour here. xoxo

Odd post, i know, but dont lock this mods. *hugs*

I've got a really good suggestion.

If you are talking about an individual artist, then maybe you should change the title to something like 'Hey Amy, what do you think of xxxx?'. It'll work a hell of a lot more then just having 'click me' in the title, and we will all know what this thread is about...

alot of people, including me, wouldn't be here if it wasn't for your music. Just thought I'd say that and i hope to see you on your next tour here.

well............. I think that's what an artist should be more proud of... and, well, I am sure I will be here the same without their music... but... just in a WORSE different way

Amy... that day I remember you saying to me after this girl told you "amy, you saved my life", "well... i don't know what to say..."
I think your lyrics and music speaks enough in your place

THANKS

You are right. She doesn't have to say anything. Her music is her voice for everything she's done.

I think that, for most of us, Ev has "saved our lives" in some way, shape or form. It can be the literal way or the subtle way.

For some people, Ev LITERALLY saved their lives...gave them something that showed them that they weren't alone and could continue on with hope.

For other people, like me, Ev saved their lives in a more subtle fashion. I.e. discovering yourself, realizing something important, getting through a tough scenario. For myself, Ev (and Amy) helped me figure out who I was (I tried way too hard to fit in in elementary and middle school) and realize that I could be ME. And that was just fine. In all my dorkiness and weirdness and strange tastes and awkwardness...I could be me and do all right. Without Ev, without Amy as inspiration..I'm sure that I'd still be a lost conformist trying to fit in and not knowing who I was.

No matter how Ev has touched us, big or small, I think that all of us can say that the music connected with us in a way that no other music has before (well, for most at least lol), provided a lifeline of sorts.

Just look at the "Rock or Therapy" thread in the EvChat forum...almost EVERYONE said that Ev was their Therapy in some way, shape or form. Most people said 'both' (myself included), but there were a lot of people who said Therapy.

So...yeah. lol.

I wouldn't know what to say if I was Amy, either...but I agree with you guys. The music speaks volumes.

On to the true topic of this thread...nice post. I think that you asked a couple interesting questions, and I'd love to see what Amy says in reply :)

...man, I talk too much...lol

Its hard to pick favorites, especially with bjork because theyre all so different. I love "baker" by tori amos. I listen to it over and over... its like it reminds me of a strange sad feeling I had a long time ago but I can't remember why. It just feels like goodbye. Also the song "Juarez." I have no freaking clue what she's talking about but I LOVE the music. As for Bjork, I love "Joga," its like a movie score. Oooo the strings! Also pagean poetry I've listened to a whole lot. Come to think of it I love vespertine ALOT, I don't know why the rest of the world didn't catch on. I'm very flattered that you would categorize me with these artists, who i respect so very much. Thank you.

As for Bjork, I love "Joga," its like a movie score. Oooo the strings! ... I'm very flattered that you would categorize me with these artists, who i respect so very much.

after reading a couple interviews i found out you also listen to movie composers, right? shocked the hell out of me.. to think that a hard rock band is drawing influence from Elfman, Zimmer, and Armstrong.. or to think that one of my favorite singers has almost identical taste in music to my own, yet playes a style that i didnt think i liked before hearing you.. or to think that anyone shares my taste for that matter.
(im starting to think its the use of strings and choir backing you and the guitars that catches my ear. adds a whole new lever of depth when you do that)
i know a lot of people Amy, and most of them dont even know those composers exist, let alone listen to them on a regular basis. my mouth literaly dropped when i heard your tribute to Armstrong in the 2002 version of Whisper.

as far as putting you on the same plane.. i neednt remind you how many thousands of people on this board alone would agree with that notion in the blink of an eye, or how many people go out of their way to flock to your concerts, or that the success of Fallen and the tours speak for themself. you dont give yourself enough credit.

so if i may amend LammyComes question: what scores and other composers do you like? and have you ever heard the LOTR2 trailer version Lux Aeterna from Requiem for a Dream? (if not you REALLY need to. single best piece of music ive heard in my life).

Katya

WHAAAAAT?! Dude I've seen those movies at least ten times, and the trailers are a given, and I never remembered hearing that.

Hehe, sometimes music can be fantastic without the lyrics. Take Nightwish. Fan-freakin-tastic band, but I dont' always get what they're talking about (Ever Dream, for example.) Still a fantastic band, though.

Can I add onto yours, Muenks? You mentioned LOTR. I think that the soundtracks for all 3 movies are amazing, and I was wondering how you, Amy, like them. (I, personally, think that Howard Shore is a genius, but that's just my opinion) :)

Yeah, I love all those songs too. I just started listening to Bjork and yep, she's awesome. And most likely, the reason you are categorized with them, is because you do a gret job expressing yourself and so do they. :D

OMG Joga is my most favourite song ever!!!!!! I love the strings so much! I listen to music before I go to sleep, usually classical but I always listen to Joga!

what do you mean 'add onto mine'? u mean elaborate on my question? go right ahead, its a free country.

I, personally, think that Howard Shore is a genius, but that's just my opinion :)

yes, and the countless awards he's gotten for that music seems to support you there.

WHAAAAAT?! Dude I've seen those movies at least ten times, and the trailers are a given, and I never remembered hearing that.

as far as Lux Aeterna (trivia for the day- that name is latin for 'Propetual Light'), the version used in the trailer was an uber souped up version backed by a full orchustra and choir, as oppoesed to the origional which was pretty much just a couple violins. only about 10 seconds of it were used for one of the three (was it three?) trailes for the movie. probably phased out when the actual score was completed.
it wasnt composed by Howard Shore (though i like his stuff too). i think it was Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet (at least thats what the info on the file my brother gave me says). but since Shore didnt compose it, it wont show up on the offical score. few people know this version even exists.

by the way Katya, thank you. its nice to see that someone on this board actualy knows what im talking about, as ive mentioned it a few times before to no avail.

as far as drama and intensity, noting can hold a candle to it. but there are 5 that i know of that come close, which id also recomend. to anyone whos into intense gothic sounds, these'll send chills down you spine:
Don Davis's 'Neodämmerung' from Matrix Revolutions
the trailer music form Dark City, aka 'Sleep Now'
Jack Wall's main theme from the pc game Myst III/Exile
Craig Armstrong's 'O Verona reprise' from Romeo and Juliet (featured in Whisper 2002).
and the X-Files movie theme.

there are a handfull of others only accessable to those in the media business, such as my brother, so the names would mean nothing to you. he sends me some on occation and blows my mind.
(anyone familiar with 'Unearthed' by E.S. Posthumous?)

there are no lyrics in any of these, save for the occational latin. something like this would steamrole over anyone who tried to sing solo with it.

Hehe, sometimes music can be fantastic without the lyrics.

sometimes !? oph.. you dont know what youre missing if youve only heard enough to think thats only true some of the time.
i guess im comming from a different place than most people. my brother got me into movie scores at an early age, so the result was a taste more focused on the sound rather than the words. even those songs i like that do have lyrics, i hear the sound first. Ev was one of the first where i learned to care to about them at all.

Take Nightwish. Fan-freakin-tastic band, but I dont' always get what they're talking about (Ever Dream, for example.) Still a fantastic band, though.

cool, ill have to check those out now. thanks for the suggestion.

anyone whos interested in the music i listed above, e-mail or PM me. with permission from a mod, or admin, or request from a band member, i might be able to make it available on my online briefcase and post a link right here for a short time.

if you go out and get it on your own, try to avoid the hundreds of techno remixes of Lux Aeterna. and NEVER play it without lots of bass ;) .

OMG...Muenks...you are not going to believe just how stupid I am lol.

For our June show for dance, one of the seniors choreographed a beautiful ballet piece to My Immortal. And she had this piece of music that came before MI started that sounded familiar but I didn't know what it was...

It was Lux Aeterna! Not the whole thing, only like 30 seconds of it, like right at 2:53 or so. I think it was a slightly different version.

Man I'm so stupid! LOL I was like 'dude where have I heard that?' lol.

Just thought I'd share that. It was a beautiful piece..especially how she had it fade into My Immortal. :)

Claymore
10-24-2004, 03:26 AM
how dare you not recognize it right away! jk ;). but Lux Aeterna played at a dance?? lol, i cant think of a less fitting occation for that song.

actualy, a slightly different version you say? yeah, theres countless version and remixes of that song, usualy in techno, which really pisses me off because that song was never meant to be techno. from what i hear, a couple of them are done well though. only 2 or 3 official versions. im pretty sure its just 2, and if i hear any different, ill have to bend over backwards to find the others.

oohhh... i can only imagine how it sounded with the typical massive amounts of bass used at dances.
you woulnt happen to be able to get ahold of that MI remix, would you?

Katya
10-24-2004, 01:12 PM
Remix? Oh no, you misunderstand. It was the originals, both of them, no techno beats.

I hate remixes. Hate, hate, hate. lol. No, this had part of Lux Aeterna that kinda faded a little to just one bass note, and then MI started playing. It was a gorgeous ballet piece, done en pointe.

And it was the band version, too. Oh, when the band kicked in...that was so gorgeous...

I like baker as well! It's a very good song... It does feel like goodbye, but sometimes it's good to say goodbye when the feeling is a good one, then the memory is also a good one, and that's important, isn't it? I like bjork music as well, but it's a bit hard for me to find out what she is singing, I have to get the lyrics and read them with the music on! Anyway they are very good songs...

Tori Amos has been an huge influence on me since as long as I can remember. I sort of grew up listening to her music I guess you could say. I absolutely love Juarez, and pretty much all of her music. And don't worry, I have no clue what most of her lyrics ever mean! I've been lucky enough to see Ev and Tori each 4 times in concert, and I've gotten to meet them both once! Both were truly amazing experiences! I've created webpages on my site containing pictures and stories! Check it out if you want :D
http://www.lickdatoad.com and click the "pics" button. [for amy, or anyone that has the answer to this question] I was wondering if Amy has ever met Tori Amos, because if not, I strongly encourage her to do so if she has the opportunity. Tori is an amazing person to talk with!

Oh I bet Tori is amazing person to converse with! I haven't had that moment of meeting with Tori yet. Hopefully I will, same for meeting Amy.(can't forget Bjork!). I would love to sit with these three and just all of us exchange words with each other. I'm not sure if Amy has met Tori. Amy, if you happen to be readin..have you came in connect with her? Furthermore--I too have no clue what most of Tori songs mean, but thats the fun part of her music--trying to decipher the meaning. I love the fact that she conceals her songs with layers and disguises them to where you can't really comprehend what her real intention for writing that song is-- when you first read(or hear) it. You really have to dig through the song and discover it for youself. Each individual has their own unique take on her songs. For example, my theory of ''Pancake'' could be completly contrasted to your(or other peoples) thoughts on the song, and that is whats great about Tori's music..it's never either/or --...everybody has a different perspectives. I find it fascinating that Tori can do that to people with her lyrics. I enjoy explicating her thought-provoking songs--I could be totally off track of what she REALLY is refering to, but it's what I absorb and walk away with when I hear the music that makes it special to me...same goes for you on how you view a song that I don't see. It's all intriguing to me. Am I making any sense? Tell me if i'm not. Moreover, Bjork. Anything she creates is just profounding...and the way she improvises with her clothes/style along with her music has me in awe. I can''t really choose favorites among her songs or her albums. It's difficult..so many good ones I admire. The album Vespertine, puts me at ease. Especially the song Cacoon! It's one that is very soothing to listen to on days that are dreadful. Have any of you guys seen this video? or any videos from her? I've never seen such beautiful art. Her new album(Medulla) is brilliant. Meanwhile Tori Amos has an upcoming album release in Feb. called ''The Beekeeper''-- which I can't wait for, Soon after the release of the album she'll be touring. I don't think Bjork performs much in the states though. I would like to see her live also, so I'll just settle on her live dvd for the mean time. After reading through the thread I just wanted to say that it's nice to see EWF people on this board!!! :)
