studying is boring and most people use study leave for leisure time and cram all their revision into the day before the exam and the morning before with cornflakes in their mouth at breakfast. and still pass ahahaha! good luck everybody! [/dr nick riviera]

I'm about to sit my A Levels at the moment in Geology, French and History, but I remember doing my GCSEs two years ago. I did Macbeth and Of Mice and Men for English Lit. Lady M's sleepwalking scene came up in the exam and I had millions of notes on it woohoo! Aw how sad is Of Mice and Men? I remember the exam question was about dreams. Of course. "Every character has a dream , you must discuss their dreams ..." or so my teacher used to say. I swear, if he said "dream" less than 20 times a lesson it was a miracle. GCSEs r crap! You forget all about them once you've finished them (and they're not as important as people say they are, trust me :) )
You can usually resit exams as well, so if you do screw up, it's not the end of the world!
Good luck all you people!

I remember watching the film as well. My friend cried in the class when we watched it. Poor Claire! I don't know if she knows I noticed. I have no idea what futile means either. But we'd done so much on dreams that I knew them back to front. As I didn't actually DO the english lit coursework (*gasp* I only did one of the four pieces set) I must've done the exam real well, 'cause I had a B.
Good luck for your GCSEs! No need to worry about them at all :D

I had a B for english lit and an A for English language. I found that, once I understood a little of the Macbeth language, the rest came really easily, which was lucky because most people found it really difficult. I did R&J in Y9, and it was really boring! Even my teacher got fed up with it, threw it aside halfway through and put the film on. Hehehehe!
Oh for the easy days of Y10 and the GCSEs (compared to A Levels!!)... how I miss them haha!

Oh yeah... I'd better go and check that out, since I still don't know what it is!
We watched the one with Claire Danes and Leonardo di Caprio in it. Hmm... if they hadn't been talking in that way I probably would've liked it more. And, hey, isn't Juliet supposed to be 14? Doing all that at 14?! Someone call the social services, quick!

i did R+J in yr 10 and watched that film. Never knew that juliet was meant to be 14! imagine going through all that at 14!? how old was romeo meant to be coz if he was alot older that would be a bit twisted!
The film wasnt so bad though, better than the old version of it! that is REALLY boring!

I'm in Yr 10, got my GCSEs next year. So far I've just done a load of coursework essays mainly, in English I also had to do an essay on Romeo & Juliet, as well as a load of other essays on things like poetry and other books. It hasn't been too bad so far :)

I'm doing mine. I got the times confused and was 5 minutes late for German writing! Nobody noticed me and my friend were late until the end when everybody was getting ready to go, and the invigilator says 'stay seated until the two people who were late have finished' then looked at me! I 've never been so embarrassed! I have solid exams until friday! go me, and they're hard, science, maths, Graphics, and english!

English A
French A
Geography A
ICT A
Chemistry B
Physics B (I thought they'd made a mistake!)
English Lit B (considering I did no coursework...)
D&T Cooking B
Music C
Maths C (considering I averaged 30% for the 2 years in Higher Tier, that's good!)
Biology D (but that was just to spite the teacher 'cause she was so crap. I didn't revise at all! She's since had a nervous breakdown, it would be better for her if nobody knew it, because everyone winds her up more now)
I don't think I did so bad. My brother got 6 A*s, 5 As and a B.

I took intermediate maths as well. Everyone that did higher came out of the exam think that they had failed but most of them passed so you should be ok.

I got 2 As 3 Bs and 5 Cs. I went to a really bad school. People in our local area were in the paper coz they got 10 A*s and i was in it because my friend and i were the only 2 in the whole school to pass all of our exams!!!!

\m/kate\m/
06-09-2004, 01:18 PM
Yeah i had to revise too because she didnt tell us that she was gonna let us cheat until we got in there so that she didnt get into trouble if we blabbed. She didnt help everyone either, she got payback on the kids she didnt like!

susurrus
06-09-2004, 01:31 PM
ooh evil. we used to have the best french teacher in the school in year 10, then in year 11 we had a new one take over our class and the best teacher went to teach the extended class (i.e. top set, mine was one below that, there was also a bottom set too). some people gave her hell and it was frustrating because it was not only unfair on her but it stopped the rest of us from learning. every class has at least one or two troublemakers. would've been funny to see them get payback but i bet they got their just desserts in failing :p

\m/kate\m/
06-09-2004, 01:36 PM
They did. Mwahahahaha! Most of them just left the class and showed up for the exam. At the beginning of the year there were 30 of us by the time we were 3/4 of the way though there were only 6 of us.

My A Level french oral was a nightmare. 20 mins long. There are 2 questions in it, one article we have to read and talk about, and an éxposé speech on whatever we want as long as it's related to France (speech is 6 mins long).
So I got in to look at the article I had to talk about for question 1. We had 20 mins preparation time but I had 30 'cause the examiner had a coffee with my teacher thank god. I was hoping it would be on the media, but, oh no, it was on the environment. I was like, fuck! 'Cause I knew nothing about it. I don't even know for sure what the article was about, oil spills or tidal waves. I know it was about pollution... but that's it. We had to talk about the article for 10 mins then moved on the the éxposé. i was talking about cars at one point and he asked me a question about cars, and I went, "oui, la cars sont... oh! *gasp* *under my breath so the recorder didn't pick it up "I just said cars oh crap"* ahem, désolé, monsieur, les voitures sont..." oooh nooo.... hehe!!
Well, I stood up and gave my speech on the french resistance in world war 2 (why oh why did i pick that topic?!) for 6 mins then talked about it. He asked so many questions and they were all really complicated like what kind of acts did they carry out (terrorist acts) were these terrorist acts justified... etc etc. He even asked me why resistances in otehr countries failed. I was dying I was like, uuhm... but I think I passed it. I spoke for 20 mins in French yay!
The GCSE french oral was an absolute cinch compared to the A Level one! A 6 min speech in a language that I don't speak? Nightmare. Nightwish. I saw them on Skuzz today. Not bad...

kate, I'm stealing your french teacher.
Not that I do french, I just would if I did it.
I'm a little late in this thread but... I've just done a load of mocks, I had to do my electronics mock right before I went to evanescence at wembley so I was to excited to really concentrate... it showed in my pretty shitty mark. I think I got an E or a D when my target grade is A/A*.... oh well. I shouldn't have bothered, I should have gone straight up.

Anyway. I'm taking...
Electronics
German
History
Statistics (which is basically extra maths)
Music
English Lang+Lit
Double Science

Good luck to y'all who are taking them this year. I've only got to do science modulars that count... next one in a few weeks.

i was a bit pissed off about maths though, cos when i came out i was talking to my friends about this question which i didnt get, and they ALL said they'd got it! i was soooo annoyed! hate it when that happens:-(

and Dark Star, was your exam 3 hours long?!?! there were some people doing A2 english at the same time as my maths paper, i think i would not be able to cope with 3 hours of essay writing! dont worry though, i'm sure you've done fine:) even if your hand is aching (probably):p lol

i had my law As today. The 1st paper was the best ever. You only have to do 3 questions on the paper so I learnt 4 model answers of by and heart and 3 came up \m/ HELL YEAH!!! But the second paper i sat there thinking wtf! I was on delegated legislation and i forgot what a statutory instrument was, duh!
I had key skills communication as well which was soooo boring. I think that i did ok though. I sat there for the 1st 20 mins staring into space coz i didnt wanna do it. Its so annoying, the college gets money from who ever is entered so we get forced into it! grrr!

damn, i guess we were really lucky because the teacher was a bit of an arse. he tried to take the piss out of some people sometimes as well. the one time i was slightly late he said good afternoon (this was 9am, so sarcastically), i said good afternoon back, omg his face hahaha! so um yeah we were lucky to be able to have music, he didn't care as long as he couldn't hear it and we got on with out work. the 10 hours was more bearable that way.

I'm so glad I didn't do art. But then again, I did music... I aced the practical but failed the composing and marginally passed the written paper. No wonder I had a C! I should have written rock music instead of renaissance flute music. Oh well...

It was either music, drama or art. I can't draw and I'm too shy to act so music it was. I do play the flute pretty well. My teacher told me I was a natural flute player... he said if I practiced enough I could be the Vanessa Mae of the woodwind band... but I kinda gave up. Still play occasionally. I love it!

that's why i chose art... too shy to act etc, already explained music, and the other was dance... i couldn't dance even if i wanted to!

so art it was. plus i can kinda draw which helps a little...

ooh form a band! actually i could just about play love me tender on the keyboard (ok so i lied... but any idiot could do that, i'm proof hehe!) and you could play flute. anyone else?

oh and being shy, oral work in english and french was a pain!

Yeah it was! I nearly fainted in my french oral this year, especially since it was 20 mins long with a visiting examiner AND I had to make a speech! Same as in the English GCSE one. I did a speech about Audrey Hepburn then.

I only had the option of drama or art. I chose drama because i get shy, i thought that it would help. It did kind. Our drama teacher made us do loads of humiliating things so by the time it come to performing we didnt give a shit about being shy anymore!

I wish we could have done dance though. My Mum had a dance school but she had to stop because of injury and i miss it :(

Hehe good band we'd make!Well at least we'd be original, the first band that cant preform in front of a crowd! ;)

We'd all be standing there holding various instruments, going, "ahem.. *cough*..." my friend would probably start singing and we'd all be standing around in the background. After they'd all got over how good a singer she is, we'd probably be booed off stage then we could make way for Ev, since we'd be the supporting act!
When Glitterati were playing I was sitting in my seat going, "who are these again?"... got up and went to the toilet... came back... I was mostly watching the people with standing tickets to see if I could see a big pink sign but I didn't see it! Maybe Saz and Sas didn't take it after all. I was just watching the lot of you wandering around! Hehehe!

They did take the signs?! Oh damn! And I spent ages looking for them as well, since they were the only two people I would have reognised at the time. Oh well. Next concert we'd all probably meet up, and we'd have to have a sign saying "the nutters from the Wembley thread" on it. So I didn't see anyone. Having my friend looking like a wet weekend didn't help, 'cause even if I did want to talk to someone else I couldn't. Never mind!
I haven't listened to any Seether since the concert either. I did try to download Broken but it was so slow I cancelled it. I'll just ask my friend, I think.

posts have to be 20 characters long. If they are not then it wont be accepted. So if people only wanna write a short post they just stick 20 characters at the end to build up the numbers. It gets kind annoying so people put grr and stuff. Dont worry it took me a while to work it out too!

you can't. just give rep to 20(!!!) other people and you can give her a +ive rep point to cancel the effect. considering you registered not long ago and you have a low rep i doubt it did much harm. and actually the positive rep you can give will be double the effect of the negative one!

noooo. grey = no influence. red = neg.
a grey is awarded by someone without enough rep power to influence your reputation level either way.

i dont think that i have been on tv. I might be on a dvd though!!!!!!! I have just been back to my old school to get my coursework and my english teacher didnt recognise me!!! He asked if i was here to get my sister, i dont have a sister!!!! Then he was like oh your kate, whats with the psudo goth thing!!! HOW RUDE!!!! grrr

Your english teacher is rude!!

I've been on those big screen things they have at open air gigs. I was right at the front of one of them and I was on the screen about 6 times. I kept seeing myself.

I've had my 15 minutes of fame (or 2 weeks of it) when I was 2. Story was, I lost my teddy bear in town and some old biddy picked it up and took it home. I couldn't sleep without this bear (still can't actually) and it got on the front page of the local paper. There was this city wide plea for me to get my bear back, and then local schools did news projects on me and my missing teddy. My mum's still got them somewhere. I did eventually get it back. Stupid old biddy stole my teddy bear!!!!!

I think the revising sucks more. It's boring as hell! 'Cause at least in exams if you don't know the answer you don't know it. Plus you can count down how much time you have left doing a certain subject like I did in maths... 30 mins to go, 20 mins to go... 30 seconds to go... I actually did jump for joy once I got out of the exam room!

oh and i was just as bad revising... i'd get bored and do something else and go back to it eventually... suppose it was good though as otherwise i'd lose concentration and not really revise properly.

ouch! i always looked right through the paper, even to the back page, reading the questions and then making notes for my answer if needed. it is hard to stay calm though and not panic when you have a lot to write in not much time but i just about did it!

\m/kate\m/
06-26-2004, 06:02 PM

Well how old are you?

And oh thank god the last exam is tomorrow afternoon... 1pm - 3:30pm... and it's one of the worst of the lot. Hell. I hope the questions are nicer than the last geology paper. It was a nightmare!

We got told to do plans too, but they never really followed through did they. I mean they'd look good with their hours for this and hours for that, but then when you tried to follow it you never did anyway. I lost mine. Hehe. I have done a bit of cramming, except last year for the Computing A/S I never even opened a book to revise from, and somehow managed to get 3 marks off a B. Hmmm....

Crappy revision. I have to revise 530 million years worth of British geological history and geology of natural resources. Great stuff. I'll never do geology again! Unless of course I fail my exams and have to resit everything. OH NOOOO I hope that won't happen!!!

How on earth did you manage sleepless nights on science coursework?! I did all mine the night before and had A's :p

Hmm. Maybe apart from maths, getting stressed over GCSE's wasn't worth the effort eheheeheheh!!

Anyway good luck for tomorrow!!

I stayed up all night fretting about Chemistry coursework.. took it in the next day.. my sci teacher took one look at me and sent me home because i looked 'awful' lol.. she said it was obvious i had been up all night, and i should have just come in an said i needed help.. instead, she marked it, and I got an A, it was the highest piece of cwk i gave in! all my other sci cwk were C's an a few B's.

Yup.. good luck to everyone else.. i guess i wont have much sleep tonight either :D

On the night before my GCSE results, I slept like a log... until 6am at which point I remember I woke up from a nightmare thinking I'd failed everything. I was away at the time so I needed to get my results over the phone. But I was too nervous and asked my mum to do it for me and the first they read out was a D for Biology lmao!!

I had AAAABBBBCCD in the end anyway, lol, and most of them I've never used any knowledge gained since :p

wow.. 4 A's well done.. im predicted a D for textiles..but thats because of my crappy teacher... haha. i hate her.. with a passion..
I would have hated to have to ring up for mine.. majority of my friends are still on holiday and they're either ringing up, or waiting til they get back.. imagine having to wait a week longer than evryone else..

have you all heard.. RS papers were marked by office workers being EdExcel didn't have enough proper markers..

RS? Never heard of it. I saw WJEC board though. My grades are in proprtion to how much I liked the subjects actually! I truly did better in the ones I liked best. The A's were in French, Geography, English and IT. B's in English Lit, Physics, Chemistry and DT. C's in Maths and Music. D for Biology :D:D

Well I kind of screwed up a bit, but not too bad.

I got 5As, 6Bs and 1C.

I'm fairly proud of my results, especially as for a fair few of my subjects I didn't have much teaching. A few of them we seemed to get different teachers every other week. I was surprised at a couple of results, one I got higher than I exepected, one I got lower but I think I had a bad day that day.

I got an A for music. That's the probably the only one I'd have been really disappointed at if I hadn't got.
