Eva isn't gothic rock, they don't sound like The Cure, Bauhaus or Sisters of Mercy to me. :\

Anyway:
Tapping the Vein
Lullacry
Darkwell
Draconian
My Ruin
Siouxsie and the Banshees (later albums of theirs leaned towards more of a gothic rock sound)
The Gathering
Flowing Tears

I like the sound of Tranquil (which there is a thread for in this forum), Lullacry and Passerby (although its not a metal band).

The Master
11-30-2003, 11:44 AM
They've already broken up... but another band would be Aleixa. They released two albums between 92-98.

Aleixa is more dance/industrial. but very metal thanks to Kevin 131 guitars. They actually had two Female Singers.

The Benjamin Gate is another one. Though I wouldn't put them under Metal they are deffinantly rock. Its hard to describe them cause they don't really sound like anyone. On their first album their use of electronics kinda remminded me of the European Dance scene (which would make sense considering they are from South Africa, and of british decent).

Sincerely,
The Master

You need to settle. She was naming bands with female singers... if you know EvBoard then you should know we go off topic very easily, you do not have to stick to the one topic given. There was no need to jump on Cristina's case.

Yes, I do, I can read. All Cristina was saying were some female fronted bands... she was going off topic as she said in a later post... Just as some people before her went off topic, why didn't you jump on them? There was NO reason to jump on her. You aren't new here, you should know how often we go off topic. While not female fronted, the band Darkseed (http://www.darkseed.com) does incorporate a second singer of the female persuasion on some of their tracks. I posted a thread about them eons ago raving about how good they are, but no one ever listens to me

Other then the three that many people would know of Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, and Nightwish.

I also think that other bands named already Flowing Tears, After Forever, Lullcry, Within Temptation, Epica, Edenbridge, are very good bands.

I like female fronted metal/rock bands. There are a few metal bands with guy that I like Just to name one Entwine.

But to me the Female adds something to the music that the guy can't.

I knew exactly what I was doing when I listed those bands, I did not say they were metal, but also notice, she said asked for gothic rock as well, and those non-gothic metal bands I listed do have some gothic roots. Also, since so many other people went off-topic, I decided to throw in some non-gothic metal bands (they are still female fronted though), but then I pointed out if they weren't metal, in case somebody didn't want to listen to them because of that.

No need to jump down my throat on it, I didn't do that out of ignorance.

Well, you know, I'm not constantly checking every second of my waking life for updates on these boards, and on top of that, that arguement was about my post, and I should have some say in it. Sorry for trying to explain myself. And if I was using a ton of profanity in my post, I could see the need to chill out, jeezes, I'm not even pissed off about it.

Gothic Rock bands (find these on mp3.com):

The reason why this girl is swinging off my tits is because I am new here and she saw the chance to bite at me, all I was doing is listing some Bands that have a Female Singer, I tie Metal with Hard Rock and yes Guano Apes is Hard Rock to me and Garbage is a female fronted Band that makes Rock-N-Roll Music, so I went off topic? Eh, I have another band you guys might want to check out.

Unfinished Thought

Female fronted, with a darker gothic feel to them. And, they just finished their first video. I've seen some pictures and it looks pretty sweet. They're going to have it on their site for download at the begining of the new year. Until then, you can listen to their songs that are up on their site for FREE download.

Pale Forest is another female headed band. There is a thread on them, so I will let you guys find the link. They may not be metal, but their music is darker. Their lead singer adds a childish sound for an interesting effect. I liked them. Check 'em out!

They passed me by, all of those great romances
You were, I felt, robbing me of my rightful chances
My picture clear, everything seemed so easy
And so I dealt you the blow
One of us had to go
Now it's different, I want you to know

One of us is crying
One of us is lying
In her lonely bed
Staring at the ceiling
Wishing she was somewhere else instead
One of us is lonely
One of us is only
Waiting for a call
Sorry for herself, feeling stupid feeling small
Wishing she had never left at all

I saw myself as a concealed attraction
I felt you kept me away from the heat and the action
Just like a child, stubborn and misconceiving
That's how I started the show
One of us had to go
Now I've changed and I want you to know
One of us is crying
One of us is lying
In her lonely bed
Staring at the ceiling
Wishing she was somewhere else instead
One of us is lonely
One of us is only
Waiting for a call
Sorry for herself, feeling stupid feeling small
Wishing she had never left at all
Never left at all

Staring at the ceiling
Wishing she was somewhere else instead
One of us is lonely
One of us is only
Waiting for a call

[fade]

Thats the Abba lyrics, I don't think Flowing Tears changed any of the lyrics in the song.

my band (still havent decided on a name) used to be fronted by me (im a gurl) and now im really confused and i think i just go as the Ben Moody of the band, and have my friend (who is a girl) be the frontman. frontmen are usually the singers and i always do backup vocals. :D (but it takes to skill to scream)

Kidney Thieves rule. :)

Anyway, as Nightwish and Tristania were mentioned earlier... Well, if you like these, you have to check out Sirenia (www.sirenia.no). 'Twas formed by the former vocalist, guitar player, main songwriter and text composer of Tristania, and their music is sort of goth metal and classical-y. French female vocalist on most, if not all their songs, if I remember correctly... Backed by male voices of different kind, as well as a choir at times. Nice music... <=

FETISCH is a band you'll like a lot.. well, I do.

Theyre songs sound similiar to Bring Me To Life... with both a girl and guy singer (hot too!).. except most of their songs are like that (two singers). But some are more female and some are more male. They switch back and forth.

I've been waiting on their album foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeever!
Its supposed to out soon though!

They have a new website that kixxx a$$ .. so I'm thinking the album should b out soon 2. check 'em they are what my banner is from too...

Oh then. Lets not forget about No Doubt. And how about The Cardigans, or Blondie. And then there's The Cranberries.

If you want to list off pop rock girl fronted bands then start a fucking thread for it. My gawd, there's only like millions of girl fronted bands. Listing off random bands simply because they have a female singer in a thread specifically about one type of music is just retarded and what I consider nothing more than trying to give yourself a higher post count. This thread has a purpose and you obviously missed the point of it. oh well "threads go off topic all the time!" Well, it's because of fucktards like you who do nothing but make a good thread go to shit.

And yes, I'm in a pissy mood. I don't apoligize for anything I've said and I honestly don't give a shit about how you react to what I said. Don't bother posting in a thread if you have nothing to say on the fucking TOPIC.

And yes. Within Temptation, Nightwish, After Forever, occasional duets for Luca Turilli (guitarist for Rhapsody's band), and Theatre of Tragedy all fucking rock. Also am trying to dl a song by Solemnus which is listed on winmx as being comparable to WT, AF, and NW.

Edit: and damnit, reading threads backwards is weird as hell. This is a reply to somewhat old stuff that just sparked something in me that hates the attitude this board has developed.

Well if your like me, you prefer a Woman's voice over a Man's anyday. I dont really know any other Gothic Rock/Metal Bands that are Fronted by Girls. I Just know Evanescence and Lacuna Coil. What are some others?
Actually, it seems to me that Christina S. doesn't really front the band...it seems like there is no front, it's just them. I think that's the best way to do it.

I'm really not meaning to sound bitchy here, but while The Distillers = Kickass, The Distillers != Gothic Rock/Metal band. They're punk, if anything bordering on hardcore, particularly their older material. Not trying to offend, just trying to qualify your statement for people that might not know who they are.

Dark Moor = awesome as hell female fronted power metal

..however, the girl who's name I cannot remember quit along with several other members of the band and now the group has reformed with a male singer, who I don't really like.

My personal favorite in female fronted Gothic metal is Avrigus. An amazing band from Australia IMO. They do have a website www.avrigus.com (http://www.avrigus.com) Unfortunately it looks like it hasn't been updated in a very long time and the soundclips are down. Both The Final Wish EP and The Secret Kingdom CD are well worth hearing I think if you appreciate that genre.

As far as more traditional Gothic Rock is the true sense, I really like Requiem in White and the first Mors Syphilitica albums.

IMO, the best female-fronted bands are: Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Evanescence, The Gathering, Theatre Of Tragedy (Before Liv left), Leaves' Eyes, Inkubus Sukkubus, Nightwish, Epheriam, and Lacrimosa (not really female-fronted, but most vocals are female).

Since this thread is so prone to being reincarnated (in its original form... Hmm, how strange...):

Shamelessly promoting Amber Asylum. It's more orchestra rock than anything, so fairly off topic, buuut.... *meep* couldn't help myself!! Some of my favorite female-fronted bands, even though they've already been mentioned, are Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, The Gathering, After Forever, Bjork (okay so she's a person...), Tristania, Sirenia, Theatre of Tragedy, and Siouxie and the Banshees. And Evanescence, of course ;) . I suspect that list is about to grow, with all the bands listed in this thread...

EDIT: Hehehe, already found another to add. Check out Visions of Atlantis (http://www.visionsofatlantis.com), they remind me a fair bit of Nightwish. Maybe a little lighter, but the singer's voice reminds me of Tarja off the first two albums.

Not to be any kind of besserwisser, but there is really a BIG difference between Goth and Gothic Metal. For you who does not know...

After reading the thread I don't have much to add but two bands;

3rd And The Mortal
Autumn

3rd And The Mortal are not typical gothic metal though, some place it into doom.

I've been listening to a lot of metal lately, mostly classic metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Pantera. However, I like a lot of other music that isn't metal (such as Evanescence) but up until recently I hadn't really explored any of these bands. I've started listening to Lacuna Coil and I like them a lot, having bought all of there albums including the self-titled EP. I ordered The Gathering's Mandylion and Nightwish's Oceanborn from Amazon the other day and I look forward to hearing them. The Gathering seem slower and more mello than LC and Nightwish from the samples I listened to, although it was hard to get a good idea of the bands from the samples. The operatic vocals of Tarja from Nightwish took some getting used to, but I like the band's sound from what I heard.

One reason why I didn't explore these bands sooner is the arrogance and elitism that many of there fans display. A lot of them hate Evanescence because they are in the mainstream and assume that makes them untalented. This has always been true in the metal community to some extent, but it doesn't encourage me to listen to these bands when some of their fans (not the people on this board) are so closed-minded. However, not all of their fans are that way (as shown by most of the people in this thread) and it's their loss if they choose to live that way. Mainstream music may not be great right now, but that doesn't mean there aren't talented bands in the mainstream (Evanescence, Tool, A Perfect Circle, System of a Down) and this is something that some metalheads overlook.

not sure if the band "Tristania" has been mentioned in this thread yet, but they are a Metal band from Norway with three lead singers... One of them is a woman by the name of Vibeke Stene and she has a beautiful operatic voice... the other singers are both guys and one growls/grunts whatever, and the other sings... They are metal but have great orchestral influences as well... i've been listening to them a lot lately... Very good stuff...

Ok.. So this is an old thread but a cool one and I think it may be very helpful to anyone that likes this kind of music - Female Fronted Metal (and not so metal) Bands (and I know that we aren't just a few! :D). But it's so tiring to go and look all the thread to look if there are any new bands, so I'll put all the ones I find in evboard here. (I know I'll miss some of them, is late, I'm tired and.. I will. :p). I've known a lot of cool bands thanks to EvBoard and if I had seen this thread before I'd have known them faster! lol.

Well, here we go:

Nightwish (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=498)
One of the most famous bands.. I think they don't need any presentation. :D

Within Temptation (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=786)
Dutchie band with a very personal style. Every album is really different, but special in its way.

Lacuna Coil (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=748)
Another of the big ones. Coming from Italy but getting bigger everywhere Lacuna are already a reference to a lots of new bands. And I understand it!

Leaves' Eyes (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=16661)
Liv Kristine's (she was in Theatre Of Tragedy) new band. They have to albums (Loverlorn and Vinland Saga) and a lot of future. :p

Epica (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=1982)
Founded by Mark Jansen after he left After Forever, they ahve two albums out (The Phantom Agony and Consign To Oblivion). Both great albums. This is a 'must-hear' band. :p

After Forever (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=2165)
Great great band. They have been around for a while now, and there are plenty of albums and songs to listen. Floor's voice is awesome. :D

Rain Fell Within (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=24473)
Recent discovering by Frozen, we are still investigating them, lol. But they sound pretty good as said up there!

Autumn (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=24540)
They have been opening for Within Temptation and there are no complaints about it!

Tristania (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=1498)
I'm just getting into them but already know I'll love them. :p

Sirenia (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=24569)
I don't know a lot about this band.. but have heard lots of good critics.

Of Infinity (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=24678)
I just heard some of the music that's up in their site and they sound kinda Lacuna Coil-ish. Good good! *note: I have to write my thoughts in that thread*

Asrai (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=24537)
Another band, with a weird line-up, 3 girls and two boys, lol.

Eternya (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=24538)
Ok.. I know they haven't anything to do with the other bands. This two female fronted band is from Barcelona, they are beginning, but they sound really good. Also they are very nice and improve very much live. I hope they'll make bigger in the near future.

Garbage (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=23017)
Yeah, not metal, but in the title there's the rock thing so.. :p I really like this band.

Flyleaf (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=801)
I doubt there is someone in this board that doesn't know them. If there is.. go check them out! They rock.

Anf of course there are more bands like Lullacry, Lacrimosa or Edenbridge (which I didn't have time to check! lol) but either they haven't thread yet, it was deleted with the crash or it's hided and I'm too lazy to search right now. :o *goes to bed*

See you in almost all of these threads! haha

Ok just a few things if you want Metal bands with a lead female singer
Nightwish Symphonic/Power/Opera Metal
Edenbridge Symphonic/Power Metal
Magic Power Metal
Sinergy Power Metal
Ram-Zet Insane Psycho Metal

There is not one thing Gothic about either of those bands. Just becasue they have a lead Female singer does not make them Gothic. Goth Metal is getting way to many band put into it when half of them are not Goth at all. And four of them are listed as Power Metal.

After Forever and Epica well yes you can throw them in there. Tristania step away from being a Goth Metal band after Morten Veland left.

So really if you want Good Femaly Fronted Metal bands then pick up

Nightwish
Sinergy
Magica
Edenbridge
After Forever
Epica
Flowing Tears
Ram-Zet

Those are the best ones.

I'm not sure if they have been discussed here or not,but Otep,is also a female fronted band.Personally, next to Cradle of Filth and Ev,they're my favourite band. The lead singer is Otep Shamaya,I thinks shes aboslutly gorgeous:

and heres a bigger version of my avatar:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y116/LookSoPretty21/Otep/otep-12-fl_album1.jpg

They have two cds out now and are working on the third. I have some of the lyrics to "Shattered Peices" in my signature, that song was on their second cd,House of Secrets.

On their site, you can also listen to some of their music. Heres the link
Otep.com (http://www.otep.com/)

Also, tonight she'll be on HBO's Def Poetry at 11:30 PM EST time. I cant wait. Definatly check these guys out.

You all forgot Hungry Lucy. It's not really rock, but I am not sure what else to call it??? EMO???very low key and relaxed music. I also like Lorenna McKennit, but I believe we are talking about female fronted Rock bands.

I listen to Ev (duh), Nighwish, Swithblade Sumphony, Lacuna Coil, The Gathering, Tapping the Vein, Snake River Conspiracy (i don't like them, but I have their album)....I know I have some more but cannot think of them now.

I didn't know where to post this, and didn't want to go around all the threads that concerns this.. so I bring back to life this thread! :p

Looking around I came across a book called Power and Majesty (http://www.xs4all.nl/~cursed/powerandmajesty.htm). There's not a lot of info about it, I just found this:
It's a book about the females in metal, with color photos. Some of the women that contributed in it are: Sharon den Adel, Liv Kristine, Cristina Scabbia, Nienke de Jong, Anneke, Simone and more.
68 pages, divided into 4 chapters, where the singers tell us about their beginnings, their love for metal and music in general, and share their opinions about singing, songwriting and image.
It costs 9€ (shipping costs included) and can be ordered here (http://www.metal-maiden.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=7064&osCsid=2253e4899e2aafea10f8a128369e89a7).

I'll probably get it.. I think it's pretty cheap, and I'm very interested in what those women say! :D

Ok, i started a thread for this band, but it died a quick and unceremonious death, so ill put this here. Maybe it'll get more of a reception.

The band is "Stream of Passion". Not what it sounds like! Nothing to do with porn! A new band that has been put together by virtuoso guitarist/songwriter/musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen... The man behind such projects like Ayreon, Ambeon and Star One. This new band features the wonderful vocals of Marcela Bovio. Her clear and hauntingly beautiful voice leads a group of very capable musicians. If you're at all interested i would definitely urge you to check out their new website. www.StreamofPassion.com It features the full downloadable track 'Deceiver' from their upcoming album called "Embrace the Storm" which is due out on October 24th, 2005. The site also has several samples of various tracks off the new album, plus a full video trailer.

Give it a chance! You won't regret it!

As for Marcela, yeah wow, she has an AMAZING voice. Jumps out at me like no other since Amy Lee and Anneke Van G. Arjen, also bloody brilliant! I really enjoy his work. :D

I'm looking for a female fronted rock band, but I don't really know what to buy. I'm walking round Virgin Megastore, but I don't really know what band's what.

So, what do you recommend for someone who likes
Lacuna Coil
Nightwish
Within Temptation
Evanescence

After Forever!!
Since you like the symphonic and atmospheric music of Nightwish and Within Temptation then you'll certainly love After Forever!
Their music goes from gothic metal,to death metal and then to really heavy metal! The singer is soprano and her capabilities are unlimited!!Whichever album you find worths its money!
Just to know they have out,Prison of Desire,Decipher,Invisible Circles,Remagine and an EP Exordium!
Hope I helped!

I'm not sure if this has been posted before. But i found this site which has an A to Z of goth/metal bands. Its quite an extensive list and there are lots of female fronted ones, or ones that have female members, however it would be silly for me to list them all as it would take me forever to do !

I'm not sure if this band has been mentioned before (I went through the last 4 pages and didn't come across it) but there's this all female doom-y metal band from Norway called Octavia Sperati. I think they're pretty good. They've gotten really good reviews and not-so good reviews... I think the lead singer sounds like a cross between Cristina (LC) and Anneke (tG).

Click here (http://music.yahoo.com/ar-20258191-videos--Octavia-Sperati) to go see their video for "Hunting Eye", probably my favourite song on their album. Other notables: Without Air (After) & Wasted on the Living. :)

They've been in my sig for a few weeks now. They label themselves as a progressive/metal band but they're different from the other progressive bands I've listened to. They're influences vary like whoa...everything from Bjork and Tori Amos to Between The Buried And Me and Avenged Sevenfold. They're really awesome. You'll get all the info you want from their myspace. Or so I hope. Antonamasia (www.myspace.com/antonamasia)

They're an Aussie band who are about to release their EP. They are incredible live. Listen to their tracks on myspace, multiply that by ten and that's what they sound like live. Amazing. :D

After Forever, Tristania, Epica, Flyleaf, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Arch Enemy... and of couse, Evan's... but I don't consider the band as a gothic or a metal band, but anyways :D
Those bands rules. The best one ever.

How good are they? I was speaking to the keyboardist and he said the release will be sometime in the next 2-3 months. So if you like, when I get my copy I can rip it and post it on a file sharing website for you to upload. =)

I saw a band last night called Unexpect. They were amazing. A 7 piece band... Very Nightwish-esque. Check out the hair on this girl...

uneXpect is great! I actually only just started listening to them a couple days ago. *Ahem*. They do a great job of satisfying my recent hunger for psycho metal.

As I said though, I have "Asphyxiation Theory" which is on their myspace and I also have another one "Keeping Nothing" in mp3. So if anyone would like to hear them, let me know. ;)
