Give Unto Me
I've been watching you from a distance
The distance sees through your disguise
All I want from you is your hurting
I want to heal you
I want to save you from the dark
Give unto me your troubles
I'll endure your suffering
Place onto me your burden
I'll drink your deadly poison
Why should I care if they hurt you
Somehow it matters more to me
Than if I were hurting myself
Save you (save you)
I'll save you
Give unto me your troubles
I'll endure your suffering
Place onto me your burden
I'll drink your deadly poison
Fear not the flame of my love's candle
Let it be the sun in your world of darkness
Give unto me all that frightens you
I'll have your nightmares for you
If you sleep soundly
Give unto me your troubles
I'll endure your suffering
Place onto me your burden
I'll drink your deadly poison
Fear not the flame of my love's candle
Let it be the sun in your world of darkness
Give unto me all that frightens you
I'll have your nightmares for you
If you sleep soundly
Fear not the flame of my love's candle
Let it be the sun in your world of darkness

I think this probably has to be one of my favourite Ev songs. It just does something for me, something that some of the other songs don't, you know? I used to listen to it when I couldn't sleep because in a way I found the song strangely comforting. And then I had it in my head for a week solid, haha.
I love the eerie atmosphere to it. When I listen to it, I always end up thinking of the film "The Others" for some reason.

This song wouldn't be out of place on the soundtrack for 'Silent Hill' (the movie). The movie's score sounds very similar to this song and has a similar atmosphere.
Great song, very unique.

I thought it sounded like it belonged on a Horror or Pyschalogical Thriller movie... Every time I listen to it I think of amy playing the piano dressed very twenty's esque.... And Vampires for some reason....

I'm having trouble hearing these lines:
"I'll have your nightmares for you
If you sleep soundly"
I hear the sleep soundly bit but I really cant understand the other part. :p It doesn't sound like it at all to me..

I fell in love with the lyrics, and the song is amazing.
It's kinda eerie. I like how she drags her voice along in this song. I felt it. It was a voice of tiresome suffering, like she was too distraught to care anymore. And it gives me chillbumps. Why didn't they put this on Fallen? It's just so unlike all of their other songs. She really did well in this song both vocally and with the piano.

Okay, I can't clearly understand it either, although, I have listened closely with my volume up and it sounds like this in the "Why should I care if they hurt you..." verse, which is the second one.
(Fear not the flame of my love’s candle)
Give unto me your troubles (Fear not the flame of my love’s candle)
I’ll endure your suffering (Let it be the sun in your world of darkness)
Place onto me your burden (Give unto me all that frightens you)
I’ll drink your deadly (I’ll have your nightmares for you if you sleep soundly)
And then the second one, the second chorus that begins at 4:10 after the solo, is too overwhelming to listen to and comprehend right away so I was listenign to it over and over again.
Give unto me your troubles, Mmm (Fear not the flame of my love’s candle)
I’ll endure your suffering (Let it be the sun in your world of darkness)
Place onto me your burden (Give unto me all that frightens you)
I’ll drink your deadly poison (I’ll be the smile in your if you sleep soundly)
Now about the last line, "I’ll be the smile in your if you sleep soundly," that's what it sounds like to me.
This is what I put on my forum as the lyrics. Link is in my signature. :)
I just listened to it again. It,"I’ll be the smile in your if you sleep soundly," could be "I'll have your nightmares for you in your sleep soundly."

Right. There are alot of layers in the second chorus through to the end. As she's playing those eighth notes with her left hand, she is matching her voice and more with her right hand. And she sings simultaneously. And the piano solo is awesome. How is she that damn good?

It's one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. And it's beautiful. But it's always make me down for some time so I'm not listening it many times, just when I'm sad. It's making me feel better, don't know why. Maybe because of Amy's voice or lyrics.

No one can play piano close to half as good as Amy can!! This is definitely my favorite song. The lyrics are so metaphoric and awesome. Now, as for the instrumental, what instrument is it? It sounds like organ or synthesizer. The instrumental has low beeping towards the end, right?

I think it's time this particular thread was revived. I love this song..it makes me thing about my exams two years ago, and now whenever I hear it I get nervous. :p Still love the song. My favourite Evanescence ballad!

Probably the most haunting Evanescence song. It just sounds so mysterious. I love it though, and I've always thought it would make a great show opener. It could start off with Amy coming from underground (under the stage) sitting on her piano as she starts playing. It would be all dark, with only a light shining on Amy. Then, after this song, they can move on to whatever's next and the rest of the band can be revealed.

I love both versions of Give Unto Me. I love the demo versions because it's just sheer greatness. And I love the SA version because it's creepy and mysterious.
