"The harrowing true story of a teenager's decent into the seductive world of drugs. A diary so honest you may think you know Alice- or somone like her. Read her diary. Enter her world. You'll never be able to forget Alice."
^That's the summary that's given on the back of the book. I just finished it a couple of weeks ago, and thought it was really interesting. Has anyone else read this? What did you think?

We had to read it for grade 8 english. it was one of those books that everyone actaully read and liked, not the usual "it's a school book so it must blow" type thoughts. I think it actaully shows a side of life that people can relate to - that's why it's so popular. there's a song about it too. White rabbit maybe?

I've been trying to get hold of this book for a while now. I wanted to borrow it from the library but they didn't have it, so I guess maybe I should buy it.

It is an interesting book. I know my sister and I read it in high school as well. And like everyone says, it's not one of those school books that blows.:p

I read it a few years ago. It's one of my favorite books. I like how it's an actual diary, not fiction.

I read this book back in the 8th grade. What I love about this book is that it comes from a teenager's prospective(sp?), and she's experiencing what many people go through in their life. I also like how it's written like a diary. :)

Hey, earlier today I was looking at this thread and remembered that I had seen this book in our library room but had never bothered to read it. I was yearning for a good book to read so I picked it up. I just finished it, it was really good. The first few entries I was just like "man this is a really shallow kid" but as I progressed through I found it really hard to believe that it actually happened, that the person was real, let alone this all happened within a year or two. Thanks for this thread or I might not have read it.

I read the book, I actually have the book, which has been sitting on my book shelf *thinks*...for so long. I guess you can say that the book made me like the parts of my self that I didn't like....

I had heard of the book and thought it may be intresting.... about a year ago, my mom found it really cheap at a local store... i read it and couldn't put it down the whole day.... i finished it in like 3 hours.... I have never heard a story such as this displayed so vividly and amazing and still hold the composure to be a teen read. It's wonderful
Its amazing and I recommend it to every teen and parents of teens. it's a great inside look. may not be the help that teens need... but it can give everyone an idea and insight and the courage to get the help that they need.

I love this book. I read in in year 10 and I was so into the book, and it's so amazing and terrifying what drugs can do to a teenager like Alice, and how it messed up her mind and life. I'll never forger Alice, that's for sure.

Go Ask Alice is not the diary of a real teenage girl. Lookie. (http://www.snopes.com/language/literary/askalice.asp)
I do own the book, and started reading it a couple of years ago. Never finished it, though. I guess it just didn't really grab me. Maybe I'll finish it some day.

hmm interesting...... i really don't think that it's true though! i believe that its a diary from an anonymous author. by the way it's written, and how all over the place it is. i dunno. plus it's more interesting to read. that would suck if it was actually an author who wrote it :P
i just finished reading this book. it's great, amazing, wow. such an eye opener

Go Ask Alice was the product of Beatrice Sparks, an author who has come out with a number of "teens who saw their lives ruined by their bad choices" offerings, each one presented as a true story, often in the form of a diary of an anonymous teen:
It Happened to Nancy (she's dying of AIDS)
Annie's Baby: The Diary of Anonymous, a Pregnant Teenager
Treacherous Love: The Diary of an Anonymous Teenager (teen girl is sexually taken advantage of by a teacher)
Jay's Journal (yet another diary, this one of a teen boy who turns to satan worship and drug use)
Almost Lost: The True Story of an Anonymous Teenager's Life on the Streets
Kim: Empty Inside: The Diary of an Anonymous Teenager (eating disorders)
The precise authorship of Go Ask Alice is still a bit of a mystery. Beatrice Sparks is presented as its editor rather than its author, and one tantalizing mention in a 1998 New York Times book review indicates the book might have been the work of several people:
the stories are still true and she knows the kids.... so part of the statement "the diary of an anyomous teenager a real diary" is true... but not the whole thing...... it's not an actual teen's diary.... bit it's based on teens lives that she's seen.... and heard stories from...
With the millions of books about the same subjects and professional addresses to all of these subjects, I'd have to say that even though its not a real diary.... it sound exactly like what one teens world would be like....

It is a real diary, the girl's name isn't alice though.
Her mum came round to my school when i was in primary school and told us about how she had had to deal with the death of her daughter. She just didnt want the whole world knowing what her daughter's name was thats why it's an anonymous author. But it is a real diary...

I remember reading this book during highschool. Sophomore year, I think. This book literally changed my life, and opened my eyes to see beyond the cardboard box that I lived in.
I'd give anything to read this profound, real, and genuine book again.
