hmmm. i could have sworn i started this topic this morning but i must have been interrupted. so now that you've read the book what did you think of it? i thought it was amazing. i hated how harry seemed to have pms in the beginning of the book, and genereally throughout this book i was quite bothered by him. when i read the end and realized he never opened the gift from sirius because he was too arrogant and could have saved him.... *scream* all throughout the book i found myself screaming Harry! no! stupid! (also when i knew snape was part of the order and harry didnt go to him toward the end of the book. also when he was ignoring hermione even though she was making extremely good points) and then of course there's Sirius... whom i loved. i knew someone important had to die but i hoped it wasnt him. what are your predictions for the next 2 books? me and my friend are thinking that one of the weasleys is going to die. possibly one of the parents. i also think that somehow harr'y aunt is going to get wound up in the plot. (hehe my brain is jumping so quickly i'm sorry if this jumps around quite a bit) i love how rowling fed us little things that we were left to wonder about for the whole book like the howler to his aunt and why dumbledore was so distant to harry. dumbledore better not die although i have a sinking feeling that he might... him, the weasly twins, Hagrid, and Lee are my favorite characters. has anyone noticed lee? if you follow him, he has dreadlocks and is extremely funny even though he only shows up in the book a handful of times. and i forget... whatever happened to errol? i loved him. does anyone have any ideas what is in store for the next 2 books? i'm also thinking that there might be a romance that buds between harry and hermione.
well that was refreshing, getting all my thoughts out about the boko without having to worry about constraints of giving anything away.

grr...I accidentaly clicked order of the pheonix. but I like prizoner of azkaban the best!!!!!!! can't wait for the movie...with the new director. I hope it's better
i loved the book - and all these little incidents i now know are important - like the thing with the room of necessity (? - can't remember the exact name of it) that was mentioned briefly in goblet of fire but plays a big part in order of the phoenix. yea, harry was a tad too PMSsy but i think he's justified in it. he keeps getting into these dangerous spots and no one ever gives him the full details of it all. i'd be pissy too. and psst, you guys. sirius isn't dead. no body, no death. simple as that. he "fell" behind the curtain, even though he was just stunned. behind that curtain are people ... and luna saying something about it just confirms my suspicions. we are getting sirius back! i agree, the aunt is gonna get involved somehow ... i don't think dumbledore will die, but he'll be greatly injured. and the last battle between harry and voldemort is gonna be close. remember the part where dumbledore did some hocus pocus with silver objects and a snake came out of it and then the snake split in two? i'm thinking that voldemort is going to successfully possess harry and his body will transform and split into two, as equal matches equal and then some. i love lee! especially when he does commentary on the quittich games and professor mogonagall yells at him. no romance between harry and hermione - hermione is all rons. i think that cho isn't a possibility anymore. i think harry will get romantically involved with luna, tho. a really big hunch on that happening ... i also think that harry will come to it with draco before the end. put that twit in his place.

You're the only (other) person I've seen who thinks that way.
To me, no body, not dead... totally true.
okay.. I'm leaving now.. I just had to say that.

You know what bugged the hell out of me about the book? We're gonna have to wait another three or four years to find out how they all did on their O.W.L.s! As for the whole dying thing... I was so sure it was gonna be Neville. Even before I started reading it, I thought maybe he'd do something heroic, to avenge his parents, and it'd get himself killed. And then, during the big climactic fight, I was like, "Oooh, oooh, I'm gonna be right!" But obviously I wasn't :)
There were so many cool parts in this book, where you went, "Oh yeah, they mentioned that in book..." Like when Dumbledore is telling Harry what the prophecy was, and he mentions that Prof. Trelawny was the one who foretold it, I was like, "Oh yeah, when Harry told Dumbledore about her prophecy in book three, Dumbledore said something about that being only the second time she'd made a real one." And of course, the whole Harry needing to be with his family to help protect him was very nearly spelled out in book four. However, there was something in that one that wasn't quite explained. When Harry told Dumbledore that Voldemort had used his blood to finish the spell so he could be reborn, Dumbledore looks all triumphant for a moment, but it's gone so quickly that Harry isn't quite sure that's what he saw. I'm still kinda wondering what that's all about. Maybe something extending the whole blood ties thing. Like it's Harry's mother's blood in his aunt's veins that make her home a safe place for him, so maybe Harry's blood being used to restore Voldemort will somehow hurt him in the end. Not sure, though, how that would all work out.
As for romance, I definitely think Hermione and Ron will eventually end up together. As for Harry... I've always thought maybe he and Ginny would hook up. And I agree with all of you, I absolutely LOVE Lee, especially his commentary. What sucks, though, is that he was the same year as Fred and George (I'm pretty sure), which means this was his last year at Hogwarts.
Here's something that bothered me, though, once I finished the book... the whole thing with Snape. Okay, so Voldemort knows that he's not coming back to him (as he pointed out in book four when the Death Eaters were getting back together - something about someone who was gone for good and would have to be killed). That would make me think all the Death Eaters would know about him... like Lucias Malfoy. But Draco's still all chummy with Snape... so that doesn't make sense to me. But then again, maybe not all of the Death Eaters DO know who everyone else is... yet Snape and Karkaroff were comparing symbol-thingies on their arms in book four, so I'm not sure they WOULDN'T know about each other... I dunno, I'm rambling now, but it was something that made me wonder :)
I just hope, with the Ministry of Magic coming out finally to say that Voldemort is indeed back, that Percy will have to swallow his pride and apologize to his parents :D I always wanted SOMEONE to knock him down a few pegs.

LOL that's what I was thinking. when harry asked whoever he asked when they were gonna get the results I kept thinking "oh yeah...2 months for you, 2 years for us.." The ending of the book CONFUSED ME!!! I still don't know what happened. I'm sure if they were in a graveyard again it would have been scarrier. I just get this picture of heaven in my head when I think of the fountain and stuff and even though Voldemort was there it wasn't as scary as the last book. and the ending went too fast. I was sitting there like
"what the hell...?" woah what happened to ron? I bet it was one of those jynxs...woah! brains! sirius DIED? how? whats the deal with that thing he fell behind..DUMBLEDORE! what the hell's he doing here...hey look it's voldemort...oh look they're back in school.
Yeah...it should have been a little longer. But I GUESS it was ok. But I do think sirius is dead. not that it makes too much of a difference. and I ALSO think harry's gonna fall in love with Luna but I wish he'd fall in love with hermione...:( ok I talked too much...

ok. you made a good point about sirius possibly not being dead because they don't have the body. what i think is that he's not going to come back to life but maybe his spirit or something will play an important role, or somehow harry will get all of the spirits out from behind the arch to help vanquish voldemort. also, i just reread prisoner of azkaban. it seems that rowling puts neville in a million and one situations for no real reason whatsoever. she always plans what she says down to the teacher's lesson plans that somehow intertwine with the plot. i think that he is goign to play a huge role in the outcome of the harry potter series and that there is something huge about him that i'm not putting together yet...

;)
...neville.... i think that he is goign to play a huge role in the outcome of the harry potter series...
He's been big in all of them, just in a kind of comic relief sense, but I've felt like it was more than that.
oh, and JK gets major cookies for continuity, bringing back that reporter lady whose-name-escapes-me-now, and having dumbledore tell Harry what trelawny's other prediction was. Those were cool. I'm gonna have to go reread it again, and see what else I can notice.
You know what bugged the hell out of me about the book? We're gonna have to wait another three or four years to find out how they all did on their O.W.L.s!
you know, i wasn't bugged about it until you JUST said that .... dammit.

i think you've got something there. i was wondering about that part myself when i read it. the blood is a big thing. because in the magic world, it's like your soul, but removable without harm. and if voldemort has harry's blood in him, the blood that destroyed him the first time, that protects harry through his aunt, then the thing that voldemort hates the most (love, etc. things that "the Dark Lord has not") is inside him.
And I agree with all of you, I absolutely LOVE Lee, especially his commentary. What sucks, though, is that he was the same year as Fred and George (I'm pretty sure), which means this was his last year at Hogwarts.
actually, they're only a year ahead of ron and harry and gang. so the twins had one more year to go and lee will be in the 6th book
Here's something that bothered me, though, once I finished the book... the whole thing with Snape. Okay, so Voldemort knows that he's not coming back to him (as he pointed out in book four when the Death Eaters were getting back together - something about someone who was gone for good and would have to be killed). snape is chummy with malfoy because he's a slytherin and malfoy hates harry as does snape (you know, mr. hold-a-grudge-against-all-potters-forever and such) and all the death eaters know about each other. although since snape is on dumbledore's side, attacking him would be hard for voldemort and the other death eaters since he's a hogwarts teacher, a conspicuous person and head of slytherin house as well
I just hope, with the Ministry of Magic coming out finally to say that Voldemort is indeed back, that Percy will have to swallow his pride and apologize to his parents :D I always wanted SOMEONE to knock him down a few pegs.
ditto, big time. jerkus maximus.

My god what i can say, such a great read. Ive neglected friends, family, work and numerous social events but ive finally finished it, and what do i have to show for it?? a bout of depresson knowing the next book isn't going to be out for years oh and the immense feeling of joy at having just read a great book.
Personally i dont rank it as highly as goblet of fire (which i can't believe im the only person to have voted for)
Ok, my thoughs on the book. I love how many levels this book works on. It has so many aspects to it that can be disected, particular. I particularly liked her social comments on misrepresentation in mass media and societies willingness to believe whatever is fed to them.
I felt a little disappointed in voldermorts efforts this time around. Here i was expecting this weapon that he could use to take on the wizarding community at large but no all it was something to help him defeat harry.
The Cho Chang story line was fantastic. i so desperately wanted to see harry and her work things out. My ideal ending would have been him approaching her and just falling to his knees hugging her around her waist while he cried, the emotion of everything just pouring out of him after everything he had gone through and her knowing exactly how he felt and understanding why he had acted the way he did towards her throughout the book. I hope that harry will realise she is the one for him and try to win her back. I love her character and think they work terrificly together.
As much as it pains me to think it, I believe that somewhere over the next two books that draco and harry will be forced to work together in order to triumph over evil. Now this pains me because i want to see nothing more then draco to push harry that little bit to far and to have harry just loose it and go rank at him. Im talking dark willow alla buffy just rip into malfoy for all the bad stuff he has ever said or done.
How many people think that harry will soon become the quiddich captain? I sure as hell do, im just not sure how long angelina has left at school.
I wasn't expecting sirius to be the one that got killed off. I was expecting it to be Mrs Weasley or dumbledore. While i dont think his 'spirit' to play much of a part from now I dont believe he will be entire wiped out of the storylines.
Ah well the countdown is on again. I really hope that JK Rowling doesn't intend to stop the harry potter series just because he finishes school. Damnit I want to know what happens to him afterwards, not to mention that i dont think that even with another 2 years experience under his belt that harry will be capable of destroying voldermort. Just for curiousities sake what would everyone like to see harry do once he finishes his studies?
I want to see him come back and teach the defence against the dark arts class and take over from mcgonagall as the head of gryphandor house. He has clearly showed that he has what it takes to teach!

Nah.. McGonagall is cool. When she summond the headmistress because the firework was going off.. hee.. that was great. Harry as Defense against the Dark Arts teacher? yeah, I can see that, though.. he'd be cool. I don't think he's gonna make to be an Auror, though. Harry never shows much inclination for studying, and he's done all right so far, and he could probably pull it off, but I don't see him focusing on that exclusively. Granted, he's had a lot of distractions, but still... I think he could do teaching. He's good at that.

I know hermione, ron and harry aren't dying. there would be like, RIOTS outside JK's house if she killed them. Maybe harry at the end. I didn't like the prophecy thing. OK...tell us the whole rest of the siries! Either voldemort of harry dies at the end. and harry's the main character. DUH...children's books have to have a sappy morale of bad guys always lose so we KNOW who's dying. Unless they both kill eachother..(and I'm not giving my hopes up on that...I want a good guy main character to die)

Finally finished it today. Only took me 5 days! Pretty good going for me.
*Sniffs alot* EXTREMLY, IMMESLY DOWN RIGHT DISTRAUGHT THAT SIRIUS DIED! He was my fave character. I sat look at the page in disbeleif. I hope she brings him back in even like a flashback or summat. The other two books won't be the same without my dear Sirius. *Sniffs again*
And OMM! Umbridge! I never thought I'd hate someone so much who wasn't actually a living person!
And I never thought I'd feel sorry for Snape but I so did. Poor guy. *Would give him a hug if he was real*
Harry seriously got on my nerves though the whole damn thing. I mean even I'm not that bad when it's that time of the month. But he just needed a good slapping. Was like a mini version of my brother.
Am no sulking as I can't find my book 3 and 4. Not many places for my books to hide but they're doing damn good job! I wanna read about Sirius being alive!

Oh I am so glad Hermione's alive, she's one kick ass character. I especially like the young actress's portrayal of her in the movies, she gets that know-it-all attitude across nicely.

Tell you what, this book has enhanced the experience of watching the movies again, particularly the second one. Every time Percy of Fudge walks on screen i just want to spit on the television is disgust at knowing what kind of people they turn into.

right.. lemme get one thing straight.
I was very disappointed with this book. moreso than any other book I've read in years.
reasons?
* Umbridge. Not enough background in the character meant not enough 'reason' for being such a pain in the ass
* Snape acted completely out of character throughout the book in my opinion - hopefully book 6 will explain some of the irrationality. AD would know he's stopped giving Occlumency lessons
* nothing seemed to actually happen this time round. there was loads of fudd in there, which seemed to just be there to fill out a bigger book than last time. I'm sure she could have written that story in the same size book as PoA.
* hagrids brother... just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the story..
there were, however some very good redeeming points...
- the pensieve scene was very good. still didn't make up for snape's decision though
- percy. really good use of this character.
- the DA... really good idea
for those of u who doubt the death of Sirius. All i can say is I've watched all of her interviews etc... surrounding the launch of the book in the UK and by all accounts she was devasted in having to (i'm paraphrasing here) 'write one of the significant characters out of the series'
in her words: "to be a successful childrens writer, you have to be a ruthless killer"
i actually was hoping she'd kill off Sirius. I just didn't like it.. too sudden. I actually read past it and had to double back to realise that was actually who died.
Must admit i had a minor heart attack when Hermione got taken out in the fight.. that seemed like it would have been a more dramatic 'death' scene than i was expecting...
oh, and the prophecy thing -- I saw that coming back in the first 'real' vision by Trelawney.... when AD said she'd only ever had one real before... then again I'm always thinking ahead when I read books!!

I just finished the book today. Its my favorite one of the series! :D
First off, I think Sirius is in fact dead. The whole veil thing, where Harry thinks he saw someone walking around it. Its probably a portal to "another world" where all the dead people are. Im predicitng at some point in the next two books, we will return to the room where Harry will meet his Parents and Sirius.
the Cho relationship, it will grow. I think here charactor has been built up to much in the series to be put aside.
I hope Harry gets to play Quidditch again. Im thinking he will since Dumbledore is back.
As for Voldemort, i have no idea whats gonna happen. Neville will have a part though. I say some sort of connection betwenn Harry and Neville will form. Theirs some hints their, like how he and Harry were born in families where the parents have had 3 encounters and born at the end of July, and how Neville took up to the DA classes very well.
And finally, I wonder if Mrs Weasley will force Fred and George back into School.

i think fred and george were 7th years. 7th years take their NEWTS and fred and george took their NEWTS, right?
ok well im confused now.
I'm pretty sure they were. Otherwise, they would've just found out about their OWLs in THIS latest book, but they found out about them in the last one.

::clears throat::
Oooookay... so I loved this book, but I think I have to go back and read it because I intentionally speed-read it in order to finish it before teh TomKat (we're so freaking competitive).
Initial thoughts:
I read Sirius' death on the bus on the way home from work. I cried on the 66, surrounded by people. Audibly sniffing. yes. I'm serious. He's gone. I don't think the character is forever written out of the book... flashbacks maybe... I'm certain that veil will play a bigger role in the end.
Dumbledore. Okay. I've had a lot of people tell me that he's turning bad because of that "hint of triumph" that was expressed in GoF, but i just can't see it happening that way. I think maybe Dumbledore for a moment, thouht he had come up with a weakness in voldemort that harry could use against him as a result of the blood stuff. No way is Dumbledore bad. No way.
Luna. Wow I love this character. she's rad. 'Nuff said.
Neville. He's going to tear shit up in the end. you watch. I think he's going to be like... the minister of magic or something. He's gonna surprise everyone, just you watch.
I agree, i thought Harry was whiney, and I daresay almost too self-centered... I can see what snape means when he says he's conceited like his father.... and his FATHER... that scene and what he did to snape... I wanted to punch James Potter in his face.
I think Snape will die in the end... doing something to save Harry. as much as I want to think ill of him, i just know there's gotta be something good there... i understand his hatred of james, and thinking that harry will be just the same... but come on... he's gotta snap out of it.
Malfoy... there's gonna be a hugeeeeeee fight between harry and malfoy before this series ends. KICK HIS ASS, HARRY!
Hermione and Ron. Oh Definitely. JK said that Harry and Hermione = never. However, look at the jealousy Harry felt towards ron and hermione when they became prefects together. Imagine how alienated he'll feel when they start hooking up. 3rd wheel much? ohhhh the drama that will ensue...
Cho... i found it contemptable that she would flirt with Harry then cry about Cedric then KISS HARRY?! there's her mistake. someone should have told harry okay dude, don't follow your dick here... let her get over her dead boyfriend before you try to start a meaningful relationship with her. I personally thought Cho was going to hate Harry coming into this novel... would have made a ton more sense. Harry and Ginny... I don't think so. Harry and Luna... maybe. Harry and Cho? personally i don't want it.
Hagrid's brother... I was freaking out almost throughout the book because I thought Hagrid had some bizarre spell cast on him that was killing him slowly. I was glad when i found out that wasn't the case. I think it was an endearing plotline. I love Hagrid.
The prophecy. You all seem kind of negative about it.. i think finding out that the main protagonist and antagonist are tied in this... death lock if you will... i think that's creepy. think about it from Harry's perspective. think of the weight that puts on his shoulders... "if you don't kill him... he's going to take us all over... You have to beat him or die trying." you can't tell me that's not heavy. because let's be honest here... everyone's all "he fears dumbledore... dumbledore is stronger than him" but now he has NO calming thought... it's him or nothing. it's kill or be killed. damn. Poor Harry :(
wow. I've said a lot, haven't I? I could keep going, but I'll cut it off there.

2 things that I think are likely to happen in the books:
1) Snape will turn out to be a hero of the books. I'm convinced of it. he's my favourite character. I have always thought so. In the first book when everyone was thinking "oh it must be snape..." I never thought so. I actually thought it was Hagrid :|
2) Malfoy. Everyone thinks there's going to be a showdown between him and Harry.. If there is I'd say it'll be in Book 6. What i do think, however is that at some point Lucious is going to be killed by He-who-must-not-be-named. At that point, I think Harry will have to save Malfoy from getting killed also.
That's just my ideas though - what I would write if it were me. Then again, I've not written anything worth publishing yet!
another 2 yrs for the next book :bad-words:

I just finished this book, and man it friggin RAWKED!!!!!
First off, I think that Sirius is dead for good. Maybe come back as a ghost after they figure out a mystery of the veil or something, but he isn't completely gone for good. Maybe Sirius still has his body and when he fell, he had the mirror on him. Sirius may contact him later or something. I'm really not sure, but he isn't completely written out. Harry could have saved him if he would have thought about it, just a little flick-and-swish and some fancy words like...I dunno like "Wingardium Leviosa!" I'm not sure if the spell would have worked since he was falling already.
I am glad Hermione didn't die. She is my favorite character.
I wish they would have done more with the D. A. They were getting really good until Umbridge came in.
I was hoping that Umbridge would have suffered something more terrible than being tormented by centaurs or whatnought.
I REALLY LOVED the part where Harry and George threw down on Malfoy, muggle style. :D He needed a good asswhippin. Still does, he still has that attitude. I wish Harry would have fucked him up there at the end before Snape came up.
I think Snape will probably die trying to save Harry from something.
The part where the 6 people from the D. A. was messing up the Death Eaters in the Ministry of Magic was really great!!! They should have had more of that. Baby Head...priceless!
I can't wait till the next one, which will be in a couple of years if JK doesn't take too long. Last I heard, she had basically finished all of it in outline, because she was working on an outline as she was writing, so hopefully it won't take too long.
There are some really interesting things entwined with the HP series that one may not know from just simply reading the series such as: most of all the spells have a meaning in Latin, Voldemort in French means "flight of death," and Albus Dumbledore in old english means "White Bumblebee."
There are alot of cool facts, news updates, and rumors, and also a forum at www.harrypotterguide.co.uk
I loved book 6 to death. It seems with the HP books, I love the latest one that comes out. Book 6 rocked mainly because it shows how mature the HP books are getting. More death, and OMG, angsty Harry. I cannot tell you how much angsty Harry amused me. He's no longer the happy go lucky innocent little kid.
I got the book at 1 am the day it was released, and finished it at 3 am the next day. Would of finsihed it in 24 hours if I didn't fall asleep. Screw sleep, messing up my HP reading.

I just finished too. Awesome book.
I thought the whole cho/harry thing, was really funny. I was reading the chapter when they FINALLY went out on a date. It took way too long to ask eachother out, and go on a date, to end up fighting. I was so positive that Cho was going to die before they actually went on a normal date.

Some of the rumors on the page on www.harrypotterguide.co.uk are really intersting. They have been talking about it forever if Harry and Ginny were gonna get together, and Hermione and Ron.
i'm thinking that harry and luna could hook up - cho could pull her lameass together and hook up with harry or hermoine might end up with harry and ron might end up with luna.
so many possibilities.
... slashy couples! Moony and Padfoot! Harry and Draco! :D Oooo, can't forget Riddle! He needs to go in there somewhere! Maybe with Dumbledor, they ARE on a first name basis. *runs*

I am thinking that Ron will hook up with Hermione since he did try to ask her to the Yule Ball and he is always getting pissed whenever she mentions Viktor Krum's name.

Well, anyway getting back to your question...
I think that out all of all of the books I deffidently think that GOF is the best, followed by POA and OOP. I didn't have any problems with POA, but I like GOF just a little bit better. But sadly I had one little problem with OOP:
1. The Phrophecy: that all seemed... kind of lame, I expected a little better from J.K Rowling.
2.Cho's continuos crying really annoyed me, who wouldn't be happy with Harry? ;)
Has anyone seen the new pics on the set of POA? Looks like Hogwarts has turned into a non-uniform school. No one has robes :( . Ahh, theres no Wood= possibly no quidditch, no robes and it looks like they've changed either the crabbe or goyle because in one of the pics standing next to Draco is a scrawny kid. Eee! Things aren't looking to good for this movie!

Here are some pictures of the Knight Bus and stuff for PoA
http://www.mugglenet.com/poaset1.shtml
and yeah you are right, no one is wearing robes, they are all wearing hoodies. 8) Its kinda disturbing to say it, but at her age, Emma Watson (who plays Hermione) is really hot.
There is a caption on one of the other photos that says, "For authenticity, Cuardon dresses his cast in hip teen gear and, occasionally, the actors' own clothing."
I think it would be better if they kept the robes, they look really cool, they have to be comfortable also.
COOL! IT'S THE KNIGHT BUS! ... damn it's big.
Yeah, Emma is really pretty.

I've seen all the movies, read all the books, but my favorite book is Prisoner of Azkaban, it gets pretty suspenseful in the middle, as for the new book OOP, I read it in a week, it wasn't good as I expected it to be, but good nevertheless..

[SEMI-SPOILER ALERT]
I finished OOTF in a week, but it was a close call that I finished it at all. Those first 200 pages or so really dragged!! :( Everyone I know that's read it says the same. OK so it reflected Harry's boredom at being cooped up with little to do, but I suspect that wasn't JK's intention!
I loved the way we're set up throughout school time for Umbridge to get her just deserts at the end. Shame it had to be at the expense of the Weasley twins - who will be the beaters now????
All in all I still think Goblet is best, being a great read from the first to the last page, so it gets my vote.

Hermione can't die because she rules all.
I don't know if anyone else is supposed to die in the series. JK hasn't announced any hints as to what will happen in book 6 yet.[/i]

The guy that played Dumbledore was Richard Harris, he rocked. The actor they got to replace him is Michael Gambon. I dunno how good of an actor he is, but he looks alot like Richard Harris (when in constume).

Michael Gambon is an excellent actor - certainly in all the things I've seen him in (TV mostly), but then I also think that Ian McKellen is a wonderful actor, and both physically and vocally would have been able to step into Richard's beard quite well. I see what you mean, though - it would have been like looking at Gandalf in Dumbledores clothing I guess.
T'was a sad, sad day when Mr Harris died, though, and not JUST because the screen Dumbledore we all know and love is no more.

I think that Ian McKellan is a good actor, but he wouldn't have made a good Dumbledore. Dumbledore is more subtle. Ian seems like he would be more expressive, and try to be TOO Dumbledore, or try to liven it up a bit, but that would be overdoing it and I don't know if it would have been as good.
I hear that people have seen some of the scenes from PoA and they said that the transformation of Lupin to Werewolf is just fucking fantastic and horrifying.
They say that Gambon as DD makes him a bit more "threatening, moody and commanding"
They also say that Gary Oldman as Sirius looks just like he was described in the book.
Does anyone know who is supposed to be Peeves but they cut him out in both PS/SS and in CoS???????
Rik Mayall..........DROP DEAD FRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really hope they keep Peeves in PoA. That is the PERFECT role for Rik Mayall. If anyone has seen Drop Dead Fred, then you would know what I am talking about. he was in it i assure you, but he was cut out when editing scenes, so they wouldn't include him in the movie if they completely cut him out...TWICE!
now I hear that they are cutting out of PoA: Professer Trelawney, Cho Chang, Oliver Wood, and Quidditch. (these are just rumors) If they are cutting out all of these important people, they should just go ahead and cut Sirius out then.
Radiance

I definitely hope they don't cut out the quidditch part, and also trelawney (i thought) as well as the others..played in important role in PoA -those characters lead up to the suspense

Trelawney, they are still looking for someone to play her I think.
Oliver Wood is definatly gone, but I dunno what they will do about Quidditch.
And I am not sure if Cho Chang is completely out of it or not.
Most of the cuts are just speculations, but Sean Biggerstaff isn't in it I know that for a fact, however, that doesn't stop them from having another "oliver wood." This is just what I hear though.

I finished the book and it was okay....
So throughly angry that Sirius is..... ahhh I can't even bring myself to say it!!!!
Lupin I daresay is an interesting character.... I do think he will weigh heavy in the outcome towards the end of the story... Jk researched throughly first hand before begining the stories (or she had first hand knowledge of alot of things) and Remus in Chinese Mythology was a baby given divine protection to allow them to complete thier sacred mission.... (interesting??.... I got that from... http://www.harrypotterguide.co.uk )
I really hope that Peeves is in an upcoming movie!!! I love when Peeves did his best to annoy/attack Umbridge..... Trewlaney has got to be in a movie sooner or later....... She is the one who dishes out the "prophecy"..... ohhhh unless someone else gives it out in the movies.......... okay I am jumping to conclusions now......
I was wondering if anyone knew the release date of PoA in theaters?

Peeves is NOT going to be in PoA i know that for a fact. The guy that played Drop Dead Fred was supposed to be him but they cut him out. Also in PoA, they cut out the following: Professer Trelawney, Cho Chang, Oliver Wood, and Quidditch. I looked on www.imbd.com for that.
I have already posted about www.harrypotterguide.co.uk also. its a good site. on the new boards my name is Eli, as it was on the old boards before they updated. The bandwidth on that site sucks the nuts though.
I did hear an interesting theory on there last night. Petunia have was part of the wizarding world and had gone to Hogwarts back in her day, but ended up getting expelled. For whatever reason, it discrased her family and thus they grew apart. Then because her sister seemed "perfect" in their parents eyes because she was still in hogwarts. But Petunia DEFINATLY knows more about the wizarding world than she is letting know. I have also heard that she may be a Squib too.

First I have to say that I can't wait for Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban in theaters!!!! yayaaaa!
About book five, I really liked it, although I think that Harry was really pissed off through half of the book, maybe that's just teen angst or whatever. I really didn't want Sirius to die, he was one of my favorite characters, so I cried. I couldn't read because of the tears in my eyes! For some reason I think that the Muggle world and the Wizarding World are going to combine, and they're going to fight against Voldemort together....Anyway, I'm reading "Order of the Phoenix" for the eighth time...hehe, either way I think that J.K. Rowling (I would do anything to meet her) did a really good job as always.
On the night of the airing of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" on T.V. with the cast commentary, during the Prisoner of Azkaban preview, I sat on the couch with my arms around my knees crying tears of joy....I'm a "nutter" as Ron would say. I really hope that they do a good job on this movie considering the situation with the new director. I plan on going to L.A. on June 3rd and Camping out in front of a theater for June 4th's first showing.....
Ive never seen the 2nd HP. I read the book, never watched the movie. But ive seen the 1st movie, and never read that book. And i havent read the 3rd. Id rather watch the movie. o.O Fantasy/magic books arent...appealing to me. Horror, blood, action, etc (resident evil) do.
I wanna see the 3rd, it looks um, neat? I just like watching them beter than reading. Im...just not a reader. I guess?

Thanks for the link ;) Great interview
I personally loved the fifth book, though not as much as the others. It seemed to drag on a little for me, but I think it was worth it, as JK said in an interview that she was afraid she would miss something important out and her readers would be disappointed, that's why it had to be so big. I HAD expected Sirius to have a more spectacular death though-his just didn't seem right. And I was extremely angry and frustrated to find that he hadn't managed to finish that Bellatrix off before that. I somehow didn't think the setting of the last scenes with Voldemort very appropriate...the Fountain of Brethren seemed too...NORMAL, for lack of a better word. I'd have expected somewhere spookier.
Also, I somehow didn't get the whole thing where before Voldemort apparates, he becomes fused with Harry, and there is a giant snake coiled around them, or something of the sort, and they are both in excruciating pain. I really didn't get that part-no doubt JK will explain it later.
As someone picked up on before, I don't think it right that somehow Harry would survive after killing Voldemort-if he did. I'd rather see Harry mortally wounded or something. It would seem too predictive of the series if he survived.
I think that Harry will be the next Quidditch captain. Infact, I'm pretty sure. And as for Cho, I really started to dislike her at the end of their relationship. She just really needed to get over Cedric, and I personally found her annoying and bitchy:
eastbrook4: why did Harry have to split up with Cho Chang?
JK Rowling replies -> That's life, I'm afraid. They were never going to be happy, it was better that it ended early!
A hint that they probably won't get it back together again. Thank God
I really want to find out why Dumbledore trusts Snape....but I guess that'll come. And now, all I can say is that all the unexplained things and things that you have been disappointed will probably be explained in the next two books, so don't fret too much ;)
And by the way, I think people really need to get over Sirius ;)

I think each book is better than the last. Although, my favorite is Prisoner of Azkaban, so I'm really excited about the movie coming out. In Order of the Phoenix, I do agree, that Harry had a little PMS. I did get fustrated with him in the book (especially when he found out about the mirror that Sirus gave him). But I think....maybe Sirius didn't actually really die. I know he fell behind the curtains and stuff, but I'm thinking he might possibly somehow, come back. Y'know how JK said that there is going to be a new Minister for Magic...well, wouldn't it be so cool if it was Arthur Weasley? I doubt it's going to be Dumbledore, and it would really slap the smile off of Draco's face if it was. Ah well, I'm just wishing. Oh yeah, and I think that JK said she wasn't going to bring Sirius back. Sorry guys :p
Personally I'm not too bothered, I don't really see what all the fuss was about it. Funny, since he's most like me in terms of personality and characteristics.

I really dont think she will bring Sirius back. :( Once your dead your dead, even in the wizarding world.
I was sad when Sirius died but if I had to chose, I would rather it be him than Remus or one of the kids.
Renus Lupin is my favorite! I would be devastated if he were to die!

i cant wait for the movie......i really really wanna see hermione smack malfoy!!!!!!!!!!!
serge_yay_happy

The smack doesn't exactly look realistic...but then, you wouldn't want to hurt Tom Felton. That smack doesn't hurt him, it hurts Malfoy.
I've been wondering of what kind of named JKR is going to use next. "Dolores Umbridge" was a genius name. I can remember while reading the first book, the name "Firenze" made me scream "FLORENCE" out loud. Only a pure genius would be able to come up with all this.

I think the end of book 5 wasnt as bad as the end of book 4. The end of OOTP left me wanting more too but not as much as GOF did, GOF really left you hanging!
I have heard that book 6 is coming along pretty good so I hope we wont have to wait too long. Another 4 year wait would kill me!
Your right serge_yay_happy, she really does come up with some very interesting names! Do you know the meanings of some of them? A lot of the names come from mythology. Its very interesting to read about it!
I read The Macgical Worlds of Harry Potter not too long ago. Its really neet to see how a lot of the things in HP come from myths and legends.

the names are the not the only genius thing in the book. but they are realle the best cuz some of them can hint to whats going to accure to them in the last remaining books.

gonna revive this thread because i wanna give my p.o.v on the POA movie.
well firstly ill start by saying YAY i met neville at the premiere in leeds! i dont know his real name which is really bad and when i was talking to him i kept calling him neville which mustve been annoying.
anyway the actual film was great. i was a little disappointed at some things though. alot of things were left out and replaced by totally new events that didnt occur in the book. Crookshanks was hardly in it. ALL of the little squabbles between hermione and ron wouldve been fun to watch. also the quidditch match where gryffindor win the cup was missed out which was a shame.
another thing is, for someone who hasnt actually read the book, things couldve got quite confusing. i went to see POA with my little brother (who hasnt read any of the books) and he thought a grim was a dog that stopped werewolfs or something stupid like that. he didnt have a clue who Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs were. my brother is really thick but i can understand why he might not have understood certain things in the movie.
however i think the attention to detail was great and the little things included like the crows around the executioner were brill. the "little head" in the nightbus was great too :D very funny, along with dawn french as the fat lady.
well thats what i thought of the movie, very good but a little bit disappointing (for me). still loved it though ;)

Yeah, I hate when movies do that and mess the story-line up. I haven't seen the movie yet though. I managed to get a glimpse of the 'slap' (which was more like a punch really) to Malfoy, and I saw a little of the Knight Bus. I can't wait to see the graveyard scenes in the fourth book. I just saw it! Its a really great movie! It is a bit different from the book but thats to be expected.
I think they did a great job with it, the effects were awesome! It was funny, frightening, and dramatic all at the same time.
Lupin was great! (he's my favorite!) I didnt really like the way he looked as a werewolf though. I mean, he was very frightening and all but I thought his body was too thin and human like.
Over all I really did like the movie and I cant wait to see it again!

Lupin was my favorite part as well and I agree they made him look too thin as a wolf. Perhaps to not scare the kiddies. I went into this movie knowing that it would be different than the other two movies, but this one was not good. Special effects were good, that's about all.
First, let me say it's been probably about a year or two since i've read the book. The movie didn't seem to follow the book at all. Second, shy was there no house cup tournament at the end of the year? Was there one in the book? Third, I think the movie went too fast. I realize that they were making it shorter for kids, but I would never think that was a year of schooling. Fourth, I didn't like the way the plot was brought about. In general, Harry Potter stumbles across something and then goes through the movie to explain it. It seemed like this movie had all the important events crammed at the end. I guess that's all ... for now.
P.S.
I maybe 6 or 7 years older than these kids, but damn Daniel and Rupert are cute.

That movie rocked my face off. I thought I was gonna be really mad at Alfonso for changin so much stuff, but I LOVED it. It was the greatest. The acting was soooo much better. I was impressed, and I loved it when Harry got angry and was kicking and yelling. I loved Sirius *sniff sniff*. Not MY Sirius, but I got used to him as Sirius and I thought they did a very good casting job. Everything was beautiful, all the screenshots. I was impressed. I loved the Ron/Hermions insinuations. I am definatly gonna see it again sometime this week. :D

Okay. I am the ultimate Gryffinwhore. I saw the movie three times today. (midnight, 11am, 10:20 PM)
My first impression was to be a little disappointed. Things happened that didn't happen in the book, other things happened out of order. Things weren't explained properly, things got rushed... but in spite of that, i knew the core of the movie was awesome. I was just left wanting more complete.
But i understood by the end that this would be impossible unless they were going to make a 5 hour movie, and hell i'd be crazy enough to sit through a 5 hour movie... but the normal muggle public? Not bloody likely.
so the second time i just sat back and appreciated it. Loved it.
Third time i went specifically to look for things i didn't catch the first time, like Sir Cadogan in the paintings behind the actors. Loved it even more.
My advice to anyone going to see the movie, You'll enjoy it more if you don't go wanting a carbon copy of the book. As with any book-to-movie it won't happen. Sit back and enjoy the good without focusing too much on the bad. Or, if you want to be nit picky, do what i did and watch once to be objective, and then go back to just enjoy the movie. I truly think it gets better each time i see it. I may be going back again :)
I don't want to give up spoilers so i'll try to be vague as possible...
1. Daniel Radcliffe is not only exactly how i have envisioned harry from the start. He is. So. Fucking. Hot. I know he's jailbait, but god damn. Look at the guy...
2. New Dumbledore is a lot more mischevious. I know we all got used to richard harris, but i like the more playful side that's being shown, too. "i think i should sign my name too... well... it's a very long name..."
3. Buckbeak. You can't tell me that they didn't make the hippogriff look amazing. Exactly how i thought he'd look. Better, even.
4. Rupert Grint. "The Spiders! they want me to tapdance but i don't want to tapdance!" "yeah! you TELL those spiders, Ron" (i just grin from ear to ear everytime i see that) he's fucking adorable.
5. I just wanna hug crookshanks :)
6. Snape rocks. all grr but still protective. Alan Rickman is truly perfect for that role.
7. Malfoy REALLY reminds me of my friend Dan for some reason. I liked how he acted as more of a comic relief in this one. I almost LIKED malfoy in this movie...
All in all. I love this movie and I want to statutory rape Daniel Radcliffe. god damn.

I loved that part, it was so funny. Not to mention so random .. one of the best parts.
The movie had a lot of little comic relief's in it.. the first two had them as well, but not as much. I love the third book so much because it brings Sirius Black in, and he's definitely my favorite character. They chose a great actor to play him too, so I'm looking forward to the next movies with him. I haven't read the third book in so long so I don't know how different it is, but nonetheless, the movie kicked major ass. Everyone is getting so much older, too. Neville use to be this short, chubby kid and in this one I barely recognized him because he was tall and scrawny. Everything and everyone seems to be maturing, and it's just cool because you feel like you're in the middle of it all. I also loved how they portrayed the Dementors. They really freaked me out. All in all, the movie ruled and I'm definitely seeing it a few more times while it's still in theatres.

I'm still dying to see the movie. Sunday! I get to see it on Sunday! Two more days! Woohoo!!! Well...one day since it's technically Saturday right now. Reading everyone's comments on the movie is making me even more and more excited. I did hear they started filming Goblet of Fire in April of this year, and of course, all characters are returning. I hope they stay on board for the whole series. I'd be devastated to see a different Harry, or Ron, or Hermione.

I loved Professor Trelawney, being all over dramatic :D And again, Snape was great. I couldn't help laughing with the way he said that line 'Turn to page 942' with such bluntness. The casting is excellent.
I agree that it was too short, and things weren't explained very well at some points. Like the whole rushed scene where Hermione was using her necklace to take them back in time.

Professor Trelawney! She was greaaaat, pretty freaky when she got possessed or whatever but she was very funny indeed. her milk-bottle-bottom glasses just added to the character, she was definately ONE of my fave characters in this movie.

the director who did PoA said he was only interested in doing that one film which is a shame!

It's arthur weasley :-P
And IIII think the following things are going to happen:
Snape and Dumbledore are both going to die. Snape will die protecting Harry from something. Dumbledore will have an epic battle with Voldemort and ultimately be killed.
Professor McGonagle will be the new Headmistress.
Ron might turn bad. I think. He's so preoccupied with being overlooked by his family and well, everyone...
Malfoy is going to be REALLY pissed about Harry getting his father sent to azkaban.. I forsee a huge duel with him in the next book, and possibly a bigger one at the end of the series (i think draco is going to rise up in the death eater ranks to avenge his father)
and I think Harry will die in the end. I think it is going to be necessary for Harry to die in order to kill Voldemort. Some fancy explanation involving their being linked (harry's scar, the two wands being brothers...)
but if i'm wrong about that, i think Harry is going to graduate and become the new Defense against the dark arts teacher.

Awesome avatar and signature Katie!!!! ;) Now why didn't I think of Gryffinwhore?? Hehe. Anyways, guys!!! I FINALLY SAW THE MOVIE!!! Woohoo!!!! I loved it! It was really funny. I wasn't too disappointed with the certain things they left out. I loved the Weasley twins in this movie, and I loved Draco! He was really funny. I absolutely loved the Quidditch scene. Not too sure why....but I just loved how they did it. I thought Harry looked pretty damn sexy with those goggles. And pretty damn sexy when he was yelling in the snow. Sirius Black is awesome. His character kinda reminded me of Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean. I know that when the 5th movie comes out, I'm going to be bawling when he dies. My friend didn't read the book, so she was asking me questions throughout the movie. I told her if she bothered me one more time I was going to get up and move. Hehe. So after the movie I had to explain to her about Sirius being Harry's dads best friend. They didn't mention how he escaped, and who Padfoot, Wormtail, Mooney, and Prongs were. I had to tell her about that too. I did think though, that the warewolf looked a little weird. Like, it was tall and lanky. The whole body didn't really look like a warewolf to me, but maybe that was because I was thinking of an Underworld kind of wareworld. But over all, I loved it! Alright, bring on the 4th movie!!! :D

I loved the movie, although if I hadn't read the books a few years ago or never read emm at all I'd be confused about how Lupin knew how to work the map, and prongs, padfoot, etc. And why Harry was a Stag. That's all pretty confusing to someone who hasn't read it! But Alfonso was great! I loved this movie! I don't get why some people don't like him or the way he did the movie.
My guesses in books 6 and 7 of course as J.K said there will be more deaths. But there's a possibility that Harry could die. Which will be frigging sad for me! I dunno...there's a lot that could happen. Gah I want them to come out now!
And I can't wait for movie 4 to come out next Nov. They already announced the date, think it's 15, 16, or 17? somewhere around there!

First off all, Ron and Hermione will get together. This is inevitable.
I don't know why there are so many Harry/Hermione shippers.
That will never ever happen. Its only a matter of time before
soemthing hapend between the two. I am surprised nothing happened
in OotP.
I have to disagree with Katie when I say that Ron cannot turn bad.
That would be the worst thing that JKR could write. He couldn't betray Harry
Its like Sam betraying Frodo in LOTR. Thats just crazy.
It would really suck if Harry had to die at the end. But if he does he would die in the attempt to kill Voldemort, like Neo dies because Agent Smith dies. Since they "balance out he equation". And I think Harry would have to kill Voldy by means of wandless magic since they can't duel because of Fawkes' tail feather in their wands.
If Harry survives he will probably become an Auror. But if Harry surives, Voldemort would have to be dea, so there might not be a need for Aurors anymore so that is wide open.
And JKR said that we will find out something "HUGE" about Lily. :D

well u have to think about whats in the 3rd movie that might be a major hint for the future books too. they have this whole macbeth thing going on in the movie and i think that story can be implied in the future harry potter books. like kinda how the story ends. it alreadys explains the prophecy part and why voldie went after harry to begin with.

Draco I can see. He's second on my list. Tom Riddle?? Hehe, that's the first I've heard of anyone thinking he's hot. But to each it's own! :D
This pic is for Katie...and of course, anyone else who thinks Daniel Radcliffe is hot. I think it's new. I just got it in my egroup thing.

"Hogwarts Hogwarts Hoggy Warty Hogwarts
Teach us something please
Whether we be old and bald or young with scabby knees
Our heads could do with filling with some interesting stuff
For now they're bare and full of air
Dead flies and bits of fluff
So teach us things worth knowing
Bring back what we've forgot
Just do your best we'll do the rest and learn until our brains all rot"
Hah, I love that song!

Hmm, I remember in the fifth book how Neville I think got stuck with Hermione's wand in the Ministry of Magic when she got knocked out, so maybe something like that'll happen again.
YAY!! Arthur Weasley for Minister!:D Well, that is if he is, which I doubt, I mean, who would vote for him? :S But I really hope he is. He deserves it.
I agree. Ron and Hermione. I just can't see Hermione and Harry happening. BUT I can see Draco and Hermione happening. Weird, I know, and only if he doesn't become a Death Eater. (Somehow I think he's too young yet).
As for lots of deaths happening, I haven't heard of that, but if it is true I suspect something will happen to either Crabbe or Goyle or that other guy, Nott, because they'll want to get back at Harry for naming their fathers. I can't see anything happening to Draco though, as he's one of the main characters. It just CAN'T happen...Harry has to have a rival in school :D
I don't like Cho any more -_- Moany little twit :p I hope she never appears in the other books again, but I suspect she will die. I don't think any of the 'trio' will get killed, except maybe Harry, but the prophecy does say that 'neither can live while the other lives' or something along those lines, so I think at least one of them has to survive for a short while.
Phew.

hmm what if Harry and Cho got together, but then Malfoy kills Cho (which then leads to Harry and Malfoys "huge duel") as for Ron and Hermione (i said it earlier but i might aswell say it again) they would be great together! Theres been loads of hints about their relationship since the first book i think. When they do get together...w00t <3 best couple ever :D

I think Neville is going to have a much much bigger part as the story goes on. I think maybe because of what happened to his parents, Neville will want to fight, and possibily become more of a sidekick to Harry. That's what I'm hoping for anyways. And I'm still praying that somehow Sirius Black will come back. If Luna Lovegood said she could hear people behing the veil, I'm hoping there's something that can be done to bring him back. I was so devastated, I cried when he died, so I'm really really really really hoping that he'll come back. As for Cho, pssh....Harry can do a lot better than that. I don't know who he'd end up with, but if it's anyone but Cho, that's fine with me. I couldn't stand her in the 5th book.

Am I the only person who never actually saw Sirius's end as a death? I dunno... I guess I just never took it seriously. It never really seemed like a way of dying to me...
I just think he's definitely coming back.

*pants* Are you kidding? They're my heroes!!!! Maybe not the hottest people, but jeez, doesn't personality and ableness-to-be-around count for anything anymore? But it doesn't matter, because Draco is the hottest, as well as Oliver of course, and after seeing the 3rd movie, when the hell did Dan grow up cause he got hot too!
Anyway, i can't believe i haven't posted in this thread yet. There are people who know me soley as the Harry Potter Freak. Lately i've been more interested in other things, but with the 3rd movie out, my obsession has been moved back to near the top of my list.
My thoughts:
First of all, predictions.
1. Dumbledore is evil. He knows way too much about stuff, and i think he will either turn evil or be controlled by voldemort at some point.
2. Harry could die. Note the "could". If this was a series strictly for people over 12 or so, i could easily see that happening, because having just voldemort die would be too obvious and a silly childish ending for such an amazing plot. If they both died, Harry would die completely noble and 1000 miles from where he started as an 11 year old, so it actually would not be the sad ending it would appear. They both might live, which i think is more likely. Voldemort's complete death would be too easy for someone who's done such bad things. Let him live, and suffer, like he was meant to. 3. Luna and Harry. Duh.
4. Ron and Hermione. Personally, i think the match sucks, but it's bound to happen. Hermione would be better paired with Harry, but it's not meant to happen.
5. Sirius will be in it. Too many people fell in love with him. I doubt he'll come back to life, but he will remain Harry's trusted godfather.
6. Voldemort will turn out to be one of Harry's relatives, and there will probably be a hell of a lot more of a background in the next 2 books. We need to know how everything came to be the way it is.
Eh, that's it for now. I have a billion more, but i have to go. You probably disagree with most, most people do, but those are my opinions.
Oh, and 3rd movie rocked. They cut out a little too much, but it was expected. 5th book was good, but not as good as the 4th. She rushed a little on it. Some parts needed editing.
Anyway, there ya go. From the girl who yelled last july at the top of her lungs at a random person she didn't know for "reading harry potter too slow" during camp. (Don't ask, it's a long story.) :D

The fifth book is my favorite by far. I can hardly wait for the sixth :)
Ron and Hermione. Definitely :D
What did you guys think of the Prisoner of Azkaban movie? I saw it last night, and I loved it; but I was kinda upset that they left out the bits with Harry's Dad being a stag and the four friends going places with Lupin and stuff. However, I do believe that it was the best of the three :).
