Wow, not a single Hawaii thread  I know there's only two of us, that I know of, but still, hawaii rocks!

Anyone visit it, any comments. Any closet Hawaiians? You know you want to be there!

That's weird, I thought there used to be a Hawaii topic on here

Anyways, I've never been there, but I wouldn't mind going there someday. Paradise :D  (not the guy, the island :p ) I'd like to walk along the beaches with someone haha.

Hey, speaking of Hawaii, I was just watching Lilo & Stitch on The Disney Channel.

You guys are lucky for having Lilo & Stitch rep your island :p I never saw the cartoon till today, and it's pretty funny. Seems like each episode relates to the movie in a small but noticable way.

Plus you guys got cool female dancers  and nice sunsets. And waves even tho I refuse to go past a few feet in the water cause I can't swim. And cause it's warm. And cause of them tropical trees. And cause of...yea :D

HEY HEY Hey , (said Fat Albert)
This forum was changed to "asia and pacific islands" because I asked ToB to add a place for Hawaii discussions. And finally someone posted a hawaii thread :):P

*looks at my "location"* :)

There are more than two of us out in the middle of the pacific. "Alisa" and "Turnip" have also identified themselves as bieng from Hawaii.

So, what do you want to talk about? The surf's up on the south shore of Oahu. I haven't heard from Alissa in a while, so I don't know what's goin on in Maui. It's high summer here, as if it ever is not summer here. The waves are rippin, and the emu is steaming. Pork lau lau for everyone.

Where are you hailing from Axslinger?

Awww. I want to go to Hawaii!! Well, unlike most people who wants to go there for their beaches, I want to go there to do some field geographical research. I'm such a research geek lol. I'm thinking of the island's volcano.... landscape.... etc. perfect! Hehe.

You obviously already understand that there is much more to Hawaii than beaches. Where would you like to study? Kiluea is the most active volcano in the world but there is much more to learn about geology here. If you want to study geology here, look at UH Manoa. The geology is important but you also have to understand the "aina"

Wow. Thanks for the links. :D I'm always interested in geology, must be from my dad's work's backgroud lol. I'm thinking that if I get the chance, maybe after finishing my studies, I'll bring my dad along with me and we'll do a research together. :) There's also another plan, to AFRICA lol, but that'll be off topic.

"The Hawaiian concept of malama'aina, literally caring for or living in harmony with the land, demands conservation, sustainable use and enhancement of the local, regional and global environment."

Aww, of course I won't go to Hawaii and start cutting them bushes lol. Possibly, if I go to Hawaii, it'll be a really really loooong trip (inclusive of vacation in the beaches lol). Maybe a few months, to just embracing each and every beauty. I'm so sentimental lol.

Alrighty....
I live on the Big Island, but I went to college at Washington State University, and then got stuck having to go to Florida for the summer...it sucks... :p

I haven't been able to surf in forever. I really miss that. The south side of O'ahu is fun. It's not as crowded as Haleiwa and the rest of the North Shore. But of course, once Pipe and Sunset break, life is good.
I really miss the food too. Probably more than my family :p
Kalua pig, Lomi Salmon, lau lau and rice= fat, happy Axe :D

So' you're in Florida now?

Isn't there any good surf down there? It's been on and off this summer. Last summer we had a couple of huge swells (for the south shore). This summer we haven't had any yet, but there's still time.

Well, there is 'surf', but not so much where I am. I'm way up on the panhandle, and there only one place relatively nearby where you can surf, but it's kind of like...kailua beach, except with a small no wall kind of wave. It just picks up, and breaks. No power either. I could go on a trip to the gulf, and look for surf there, but I don't have a car as of now, so it's a no go. I'm coming back to Hawaii this winter though, and I am VERY excited about that. This past winter when I went back, I got to surf some pretty big swells on the big island. Nothing spectacular, but it got up to 6 feet hawaiian. For not being in the water in 5 months, I almost died! :p

I've heard that Lingle won't allow the 9/11 movie to be shown over there? Is that just a rumor? My mom said that. She said that it's really republican over there, but that a lot of people are getting deployed over the next couple weeks, and people are getting pretty mad. Of course, that's only one Hawaii point of view, and it's much different than Oahu sometimes.

You know, since I have had no desire to see that movie, I didn't even notice whether or not it was playing here. I'll look into it. And yeah, alot of people are getting shipped out soon. I hate to see the bite it's going to have on our economy.

I only know about that because my mom is all worried that if Bush gets re-elected there will be a draft.

What is pretty funny though, is in Hilo, they have only one rock station, and it plays...let's say...crap. So my dad had no idea about half of the stuff happening this summer in music. I sent him a cd with Alter Bridge, Slipknot, 3 days grace, Breaking Benjamin, the new Van Halen, and numerous others and he had no idea any of these songs existed. He said something like, "Alter Bridge sounds exactly like Creed, but with a different singer! And the guitar player doesn't hold back!" :p

I feel bad for my sister. She went from Ohio, and all this big city stuff, to not even Hilo, Keaau. Way down in the boonies of Paradise Park. Then her mom sold her guitar back in Ohio. She is pretty much entirely cut off now. She does like Ev though. The other day she was asking me what song had that video where someone died and amy was in white dress. lol. That's how bad the radio station is. They don't even play Ev's most adult accessible song...

Yeah, it is kind of behind the times on the other islands. I was in Kauai, and the bar I was hanging out at closed at 10:00 pm. Maybe your sister should move to Oahu. That way she wouldn't be too far from home, and she'd have more work opportunities.

10:00!

She got lucky though. She got a job on a new cruise ship, and she gets to go travel the world before they start with the Hawaii route. She goes to Alaska on the 27th, then to...Japan I think, and then Thailand. From Thailand they sail to Hawaii. Almost made me want to quit school and apply.

It is owned by NCL, but it is operating under a US flag, which means that it won't have to stop at a non-us port while cruising the islands.

*happy sigh* hawaii... paradise... it rocks! I've just now relized what I've hated for so long about hawaii was what I really loved. Some of the best things about hawaii is definitely teh hawaiian spirit! I love that most people arent at all like how I guess some people are in new york... most everyone here walks down the street with a smile on their face :). I definitely love how we have so so so many different cultures and I myself have 8 ethnicities and I love how it all mixes here. On oahu there is this place sorta by alamoana shopping center that has so many freakin' different resturaunts, and I love it! i also love how its different a lot of the places.. I live in Maui.. but I was born on the big island and pretty much grew up on oahu, and Waikiki was really fun for me. Especailly at night! I loved all those robot men and that shopping place? OMG I loved the swap meet at the statium and hawaii just all together rocks :)

Hilo has to be the most boring place on Earth. There was NO WAY I was going to go to the UH HIlo. My paretns were really convinced that I would go there, and were trying all kinds of things to get me to stay, and I refused. Although, now that I'm in Florida for the summer, and one of the best guitarists on the big Island wants to form a rock band with me, when before he wanted to play blues, I can safely say I miss home. A band with us in it would kill. I think we'd have a shot to pretty much take over the Hilo music scene. Aside from Living in Question. They're really professional, and have lots of experience. Aaaaghhhh....stupid life, and it's weird twists...

Old thread but eh...

I used to live in Hawaii. I moved from there because of and RIGHT after 9/11. I moved like...almost 3 years ago now. I visit in the summer. I still miss it...warm weather all the time and all....*sigh* Home sweet home....I was born there and lived there for the first 12 years of my life. I kind of like living in the mainland. Hawaii is cut off from the good stuff, like shows and stuff. I actually caught my first Ev show there. :) Twas awesome. Ben was rockin his Batman shirt and I think Amy wore her Love Life Respect Death hoodie. I was wondering if she was hot because it was hot as hell in that club. Ugh! I thought I was going to faint! LOL! I was thinking, "why's she wanna wear a hoodie and pants...IN Hawaii!!!!!!!" LOL! ;) Really tho. I never wore pants almost everyday most of the year. I always wore shorts. I hardly EVER used a sweater. And what I thought was "cold" before is warm to me now. LOL! I thought like...60-70 was cold. LOL! I'm so used to it now. I hate below zero tho. BUT at least if it gets really below, NO SCHOOL! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Rock on!

Damn...I think I was the only person in the state who didn't go to that Evconcert. I wish I saw it. Everyone said it was great. Nice to see some other Hawaii people in here, if formerly. I agree with the Hawaii being cut off from everything statement. I was shocked when I went to Florida. There was too muchg to do. I love Florida. But, Hawaii is home. And I miss it. Hopefully I'll be back during Winter Break. Ah,..memories. :)

It is...I miss it sometimes. I go back in the summer. I went back this past summer and the summer before that. Man...it's such a long ass flight. I thought it would never end..ugh! It was a direct flight too. On the way back home, this food truck hit the airplane in honolulu. Then me and my dad took a plane to San Fran. Then ANOTHER food truck hit the plane there. I was like, "wtf!" We couldn't ride the plane. No matter how tired I was, I could NOT fall asleep on the plane. I'd kinda fall asleep in the gate, but once I was on the plane....no sleep. Even tho the first class seats were kinda big, I still couldn't fall asleep.

wtf? That's scary. I would be freaking out. I always freak out on that flight to Hawaii. I'm claustrophobic, and that flight just messes me up. Getting hit by the food truck would've just made it worse, lol.

The flight to hawaii is easy. Try flying to europe from the east coast, or japan from anywhere, (except hawaii) That's a long flight.

Whenever I go to the mainland or fly back here I just take a few books and a few beers. I usually get caught up in the books and it makes the flight go by easily. If that doesn't work, get yourself some mytol. Take two of those and you'll be out for the whole flight, and will probably wish it lasted longer.

axeslinger0u812
10-04-2004, 05:26 PM
Yeah, I usually buy a new magazine, but of course, that lasts for about an hour, and I've got a few more to go. :p

I'll try that Myol suggestion. I've never been able to sleep on planes, no matter how tired I am, so maybe a couple artificial zzz's would be good.
