For a while now, i have been getting these weird headaches...they are not like regular headaches, as they are really quick and they hurt like hell. Like last night i had this shooting pain, that started at the top of my head and ended up in my jaw - it only lasted 5 seconds, but it kinda scared me because i have had them before. Also, sometimes it feels like someone is pushing on the top of my head with their finger, it doesnt hurt...its just some weird pressure - but it is freaky. I have been to a doctor, and they have said its cos i have high blood pressure, but i have been on medication for 6 months for high blood pressure, and its back to normal but i still get these headaches. So i dont really know whats happening...and im a bit worried but if i go to the doctor they will say the same thing again. I dont know if any of you guys would know what is wrong, but i thought i'd ask

Well, no one here is a medical expert...I know you said you've been to a doctor, but this really is a question for people with a degree in medical sciences. Doctors, unfortunately, don't always have the answers. I'm sure that everyone wishes they did.
I'm leaving this open just in case someone knows someone who has a similar condition (or has it themselves) who can point you in a better direction.
However, I will ask everyone to please not post unless you have some genuine input that will be helpful to Tazzy (i.e. NOT saying to take Advil/other pain medication, as this is a special case). Thank you :)

Ever since my parents split, I have been getting Headaches since the age of 7...they're a bitch, but pills are my friend!! My doctor told my mom to take me to a specialist, and I'm still waiting for that....I feel your pain.

Do you notice it when you eat certain foods? Pay attention to that. I noticed that I got something exactly like that (esp. the pressure thing, from your brain literally swelling) before I found out I was allergic to peanuts.

If you are getting pain in your jaw, perhaps see a dentist. he can tell you if you have TMJ or something. if your doctor said blood pressure, maybe he is right.
how do you sleep? is your neck twisted? Are your hand near your face. having a stiff neck can make your whole head ache. Sleeping on your hands can cause pain in your face and head.

I have fairly constant headaches. I mean, I go to bed with them and I wake up with them. I saw a chiropractor for a while which helped. I watched what foods I was eating (I'm a big fan of pickles and those are known for headaches). On the plus side, I believe chocolate is good for them because they have relaxing/aphrodsiac kind of qualities. Sleeping in certain positions was not good. I also have problems with my jaw, TMJ. I know sleep with a mouth gueard in every night and that's helped.
So aside from seeing a doctor again (and may I recommend seeing a different oe) try just being observant and changing things to see how that may affect the amount or intensity of your headaches.

I had it again last night, just this sharp shooting pain in my head, its not a constant headache, it just lasts 5 seconds.
I ate some chinese food, beef and rice, and i had some alcohol...so i dont know if it was cos of what i ate, maybe it was the lighting at the place, it was very dark. i dont know...i think i might go and see another doctor and ask them

Is there a chance that the headaches are actually caused by the medication that you're on? Did you have them before or have they just begun since you've been taking it? I know that some medications can have certain side effects such as headaches so it might be a good thing to check out.
Do you ever get sore muscles in your shoulders or neck? Ie. are you a sports person or athelete and strain your shoulder muscles often? If that is the case then that is the most possible cause of the headaches. In my case, whenever I strain my shoulder muscles the pain goes right up my neck and gives me a headache. If you think that is the cause then a massage or some physio might be the way to go. Also, going to the gym to actually strengthen the muscles there can sometimes have an effect, if you can work through the initial pain.
I would recommend going to a doctor and asking for a refferal to a specialist. They are more likely to have some useful suggestions and ideas of the cause than a regular GP.
The Reaper - yours sound like tension or stress headaches. I really hate those - I get them sometimes when I'm stressed about uni. However, I've been told that it's not a great idea to take too much medication for them because you can begin to become dependant on it.

there is clearly something wrong with your abdula ablingada. (waterboy)
thought id try to add some comedy to this. but just cuz a doctor said something doesnt mean he is right.. one of my friends in the army got real sick alot for like a year straight throwin up gettin nausous and no one knew what was wrong with her. she went to a hospital in california and they ended up doing close to 250,000 dollars worth of tests that sucked alot such as a spinal tap (if you dont know what that is ask someone they will tell you it sucks) and she was hospitalized for like 2 weeks. she came to the east coast and went to a different medical center and she was there for about a half hour and they told her she had kidney stones. 7 of em to be exact and thats what is making her sick. so to add a meaning to my rambling make sure you get a second or even third opinion.. just cuz they have a degree doesnt mean it didnt come from a cracker jack box :D

i looked that up SangReal, and this is what i found
Chronic Paroxysmal Hemicrania (CPH)http://headaches.about.com/library/library/graphics/36x36.gifrare syndrome similar to cluster headache in that it presents itself as multiple, short, severe headaches occurring on a daily basis. Differs from cluster headache in that the patients are almost always female, attacks are shorter (1-2 minutes) and much more frequent, averaging 14 times per day. Responds almost 100% of the time to treatment with Indomethacin.
the symptoms it describes sound like what i have, except that i dont get it everyday, and they usually last for 2 - 5 seconds, except for the one on Saturday...which just went on and on...for at least 5 minutes. i will go and see another doctor on friday i think

Before I say anything, please let me point out that my advice is not meant to take the place of advice from a medical professional. See your doctor as soon as possible. I know these headaches are probably irritating and painful and a little frightening just because you don't know where they're coming from. Your family doctor can help you, or better yet, see a neurologist.
I didn't realize you said 5 seconds. I thought you said five MINUTES. At any rate, 2-5 second headaches are more likely to be ice pick headaches, so called because they feel as if someone is stabbing you with an ice pick (but then again, it does not seem that they are that intense for you, so this may be a poor diagnosis). The International Headache Society classifies them as "primary stabbing headache." At any rate, the treatment is still the same as for CPH - indomethacin (Indocin), an NSAID.
Other possibilities are the SUNCT headache (rare in women and people below 50, so probably not right) and cough headache (unlikely because you didn't mention coughing or sneezing causing the headache, and also unlikely because it would be more intense than what you've described). It is rare to have a headache of less than high intensity for a really short duration. Hmm...
See your doctor, let us know what you find out, and good luck!

I also have a question. Once in a while, I'll get this headache, and it'll lead to my vision shaking. As in, my eyes are shaking, I think. Any idea?
