I spent a total of 10 hours on the road,5 hours at the track, and a major dissapointment. It was great to go to indy and here the reving of a V10 900@ over 18,000 revs but disappointed that the teams, drivers, FIA, Tony George, and Michelen could care less about the fans. People from Germany, Brazil, Columbia, Spain, Fins, etc etc... came to America spent a lot of money and then saw a parade of 6 cars. Its a shame that a sport that I have supported and watched my whole life, has fell apart like this. There I can see F1 losing a lot of fans because of this event. It will be interesting to see what happens at the next race and how all the fans react.

I read an article about that. That's horrible what happened. If I was a fan of F1 I would be a little upset. Well probably more than a little. I do believe that the fans should get their $$$ back. It's not a race watching 6 cars go around in a circle.

Its a road course and thise far the newest update is the tickets can be used for GA at the Cleveland Grand Prix. The FIA the sanctioning body is seweing the teams that ran the michelens and pulled out so, it will be interesting to see what happens next. I love F1 but certainly am disapointed in how this whole situation was handled. I also think it would be a cold day in H#ll before anybody gets their money back. Unless Michellen, FIA, or F1 pay for it.

I am a life long fan of F1 and am glad i missed this "race" (was at U2) I know all the arguments for both sides but this was the death of F1 in the states and maybe the death of f1 entirely. I can see the manufacturers wanting to go ahead with their own series for sure now.

Sounds as if politics got involved in this. It's really ashamed, especially after all of the money those people paid. I know that there was some discussion of a refund but i've not heard anything for sure on it.

You're right, F1 is a political sport. I'll be happy when the Concorde Agreement expires in 2007, so F1 will be non-existent. 8 of the 10 teams have agreed to start GPWC when that happens.
I've been an F1 fan since 1997, and I will remain so. I'm just pissed that the FIA (and Ferrari) wouldn't agree to a track modification so the Michelin tires could be used.
On the upside, Tiago Monteiro got a podium finish.
One more thing, to the original poster, please leave Tony George out of this. He wasn't in on any of the mess.

Spliting a series never works, look at the IRL v.s. Cart or the Grand AM v.s. ALMS don't let europe be taken over by the nascarfication.
Tony George had no control over the events but certainly will not refund the tickets, which has caused many court cases.

This one incident is far from being "the death of F1 entirely", particularly when it happened in a country where F1 is hardly very prominent to begin with.

Believe it or not, the USGP is the most attended race of the entire year, and has been since 2000.

it may not be prominent in the states but many millions were watching worldwide and what happened was a politically fueled farce, there are too many rules and regulations and everything is decided by committee.

And? The countless fans in Europe, here in Canada (myself included), and everywhere else that F1 has events are suddenly going to stop liking F1 because of this one incident? I highly doubt that. F1 will survive just fine.

many F1 fans have already stopped watching because of the poor racing, this incident will not help and I believe it to be another "nail in the coffin" F1 will survive but in what form come 2007?

I don't think its the death of F1 since you either like F1 or you don't, their really isn't many people in between. In Americia assuming you have heard of it you either like it or don't. Not sure if it is different in other countries but because their is a Nascarification going on, many people don't know of other forms or racing.

F1 will survive but in what form come 2007?
GPWC, which is basically F1 sans the FIA, Scuderia Ferrari, and possibly Midland-Jordan.
EDIT: And while I'm at it, I hereby nominate Paul Stoddard as GPWC President, and Peter Sauber as his running mate.

wow, i didnt think anyone would post anything on here. racing doesn't seem to be too popular on here. i watched it sunday and couldn't believe what i was seeing. it was so crazy it took my attention away from the nascar race. its sad that this happened. i feel bad for all the people who got ripped off.that was not a race. its too bad theres so much politics. this is probably a crazy idea because of the money and contracts involved but i wonder if Bridgestone would've considered lending the Michelin teams Bridgestone tires.

Ahh, my brother told me about this, he was really annoyed, but amused at the same time for some reason. I'm not really a fan of F1 because I get bored seeing the same track over and over again (except seeing Silverstone UK, because I've actually been driven around this one and it's awesome).
My brother thinks it's the death of F1 in America, I think he's right...!

Tony George has a contract to host the USGP through next year. It's not the death of anything. I would've rather watched what I did last week than watch the possible death of a driver.
that was not a race.
From a legal standpoint, yes it was. Therefore, no refunds can be given out.
but i wonder if Bridgestone would've considered lending the Michelin teams Bridgestone tires.
Bridgestone lend their tyres to the other teams? That's the most laughable thing I've read, in terms of this year's USGP. They're rival companies, plus the Michelin teams have a clause in their respective contracts that say that they can't.

I was shocked at first when I saw the race. I didn't get to see it from the beginning, only saw the last 25 laps. Having no idea of what happened, imagine the look on my face when I turned on the TV and seeing 6 cars in the race and the rest out.
Being an F1 fan, I wasn't affected by that one race, though I do think that they shouldn't have made it official. Although I am glad for Tiago, since it was the first time he finished third. I couldn't say the same for Schumacher. His first victory this season, and he got it in such a race. Pretty shameful, if you ask me (even if it wasn't his fault).

It was not race, it was the true masquerade. I think interest to F1 in the USA after this race will strongly fall. Owner Minardi was not against participation of other teams on Michlene but Jean Todt has on the contrary said " nobody helped to us also we not begin to help anybody " this is not sports - this is money

i was watching a racing show tonight. they had interviewed a guy from a lower F1 team who thought it was possible that there might be a boycott at the French Grand Prix. that is very interesting. i could be wrong, but i think it has something to do with the Michelin teams possibly being penalized in the future for dropping out of the USGP. i guess if they are penalized, these teams could possible boycott in France. if this happens, its amazing what kind of impact the USGP has on all of F1. i suppose this could have happened in any of the other F1 races.

They do have respective contracts with Michelin but remember that the other sponsors on their cars are also contracted for them to race. The point of sponosorship is to be seen on TV not pulled into a garage.
The only way that you could have gotten money from the tickets was to attend the Cleveland Grand Prix which accepted the tickets and gave out Granstand tickets for the champ car race. I won't expect getting anything else other then a peice of history which is the ticket. Low and behold guess who is the spec tire in Champ Car......Bridgestone :)

i was gonna edit it when i realized that if they couldn't compromise with the chicane and they couldn't compromise with using multiple tires that weekend, then they wouldn't lend the tires. it was just an idea. everyone wants to know what could have been done to save it. like i said, there's too much politics involved. they may feel bad for the fans now, but its too late.
