1) 5 lines limit
2) 2 images maximum (no larger than 468 x 200 pixels or 78100 bytes)

I agree with all the general rules, because I always hated how heaps of people had MASSIVE sigs. I think sigs should just be small.

But excluding non-PS from something like not linking to external URLs is just stupid.

The GIF and PNG file formats are quite versatile in regards to size, if you want to look into that more. I use photoshop for such things, but I haven't looked into what programs may be useful for making compact graphics aside from it.

Yes, regardless of if it is represented as text or an image on screen, a link to an outside site is a link to an outside site.

Any post made when you did not have a signature is set to not display your signature, you can edit your post and use the advanced editor to turn your signature back on in that post if that's what happened.

Well we could just go back to where you could put in larger images and start enforcing the rules that were already in place by banning anyone who exceeds the size limit. The new limits permit for a larger signature than the limits that were there before but we being ignored.

I have 3 more lines left in my sig. If any non PSes really want a link to a charity/goodcause etc I have space. :D

That's exactly what I did. Still, 12kb to the lowest quality.

I did something similar. My sig was already below the size limit, but it was 25K. If you take out some of the effects and reduce the pixels more than it already is [even if it's already smaller than the limit], it should reduce your size without making all grainy. It's the brushes and text effects that really fuck you.

Save for Web is your best friend when it comes to filesize.

nope even setting the new width and height limits, and downing my quality to 1 when saving my sig, i'm still over the 10kb limit. 20 kb would easier to do but if the board now calls for 10kb then i guess there's no more sig for a good number of us having the same problem. oh well.

If you mean why isn't it showing in the post above it's because the option to display signature was turned off when you originally made the post because you didn't have a signature. Edit the post and goto the Advanced Edit page and turn it on there. (All new posts should automatically have the signature).

Yep and guys, try .GIF format as well. You'd be amazed what you can get away with 8-32 bit .gif imagery.

Yeah, only size isn't right. It should be 400 x 150 pixels (10240 bytes)

Yep, 10 pixels too high and about 4x the filesize limit.

Also remember that if you subscribe, the limits are much higher. So just keep that in mind. :) Plus, with the sale that's going on right now how could you not afford to join the family of smurfs? :)

Understandable, but my view is the restriction is really tight. A lot of people struggled to find sigs that were the right size in kb and width for it, and I know many non-smurfs find it silly that they can have only like one line of text or whatever it is.

Yes, but it seems like new people don't hurry up that much to become PS now, guess just an idea of coming here and talking about EV isn't a sufficient and effective push for them, and isn’t it an important thing to get more PS here?

On the other hand if someone's connection is so slow that it takes forever to load because of sign they can always just turn off the display of signatures in their control panel. The bigger problem with unrestricted filesize in signatures was people trying to put in animated gifs that ran at near film framerates. Even if you have a big pipe a couple large animated gifs would slow down older computers terribly.

Ok, since this is the thread regarding sig limits, I'm going to ask for a little help in here. This (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v404/X23fan/Banners/siggy3.jpg) is the image I originally wanted in my sig (huge size, I know). Since it was too big, I made it smaller, and turned it to 0 quality (:eek: ), and it's still too big. (this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v404/X23fan/Banners/siggy300.jpg) is how it looks in a smaller, crappier version).

Now, can anyone please help me with the sig? You know, make it fit the limits and all? Pretty please? :D

I agree. If people don't want to come here because their sig isn't allowed that's their problem. I'm here to talk to fellow Evanescence fans and to talk about one of my fav bands, not to show off my creative skills. If they want to show off their stuff they can still use the Your Stuff (http://www.evboard.com/forumdisplay.php?f=79) forum. There are loads of people there who like to see people's creations, you don't just have to stuff in your sig.

I was finally able to become a paid suscriber once more *does happy dance* This time, it's for a year, so if I have to move, I'll actually be a PS when I get my internet, haha. Yay for the power of money. That and I'm cheap, so I have to take up sales because I is po'.

Not without some drastic changes. I ended up having to drop it from 30 frames to just 4 and cut the colors from 24 bit to 32 colors. But here's what I ended up with.

well if you post the signature (I'm assuming it's an image you are trying to put), we can see if it's too big.

But there usually comes a message to give what the error is.

The maximum size of your custom image is 468 by 120 pixels or 19.5 KB

Can an Admin make the sig size a little bigger?

The maximum size is bigger than you're currently using, it's 468 x 200 pixels or 78100 bytes.
