I heard the Kill Bill DVD isn't that great for special features. You might want to hold out until the whole set is released.

Got my DVD yesterday! I was happy since I had the day off :) I'm going to see Volume 2 either friday or saturday, I can't wait. I'm mostly looking forward to see Budd's part. He doesn't seem to care much about dying, and pretty wants her to get her revenge. Guess I'll have to wait and see!

Gogo is the best! But she's dead :(

About a second Kill Bill. Well here's the rumor:
IMDB's news section - which has erroneously reported in the past that Russell Crowe and Laurence Fishburne won't do interviews with the Internet press - has a story that Quentin Tarantino is planning on an animated prequel to his Kill Bill movies.

The film will be drawn in the Japanese anime style used in Kill Bill Volume 1 and will focus on the three men - pimp Estebian Vihaio and martial arts masters Hattori Hanzo (Sonny Chiba's character) and Pei Mei (Gordon Liu's character) - who turned Bill into a ruthless killer.

Tarantino is set to write and produce the animated film. When is anyone's guess. His next project is to direct a segment of Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's comic book adaptation Sin City.

We'll have to way and see I guess! But that could be cool :)

Hmmm...I read there was going to be a third one and it was going to involve the child of the first woman Uma killed in Vol 1. (I can't for the life of me remember her name right now) being trained by Sophie and coming back to get revenge on Uma for killing her mom.

Cyra

That sounds cool for the third movie, if there is one.

As for Volume 2 - I might see it this Friday, Saturday, depends if I work that night or not. I really liked the first one..."Now...wiggle your big toe!!"

The scene with Uma versus all them ninjas was brilliant, same with the animated part with Lucy Liu (whatever her name in the movie is)...I'm one of the..few? who has no idea what the names of all the characters are. Can't remember worth shit. But I'm lookin forward to the 2nd one :D

Great topic. I saw Kill Bill volumne 1 the day it came out. And bought the dvd today. Can't wait till Volume 2 comes out this friday.

Entertainment Weekly did interview Quantin:

Somehow I don't think we've seen the last of her. Have you thought about a ''Kill Bill -- Vol. 3''?
Oh yeah, initially I was thinking this would be my ''Dollars'' trilogy. I was going to do a new one every 10 years. But I need at least 15 years before I do this again. Uma won't be the star, though she'll be in it. The star will be Vernita Green's [Vivica A. Fox's] daughter, Nikki [Ambrosia Kelley]. I've already got the whole mythology: Sofie Fatale [Julie Dreyfus] will get all of Bill's money. She'll raise Nikki, who'll take on the Bride. Nikki deserves her revenge every bit as much as the Bride deserved hers. I might even shoot a couple of scenes for it now so I can get the actresses while they're this age. It's exciting to know that somewhere there's a little girl who'll grow up to be my leading lady.

Tarantino is on the cover of EW for this week and I'll post a little of what he's said about KB vol.2 and a possible vol.3

EW:let's start with KB 2. Turns out it's a love story. Who knew? And I'm not just talking about Kill and the Bride.

QT: I love the Bride, I LOVE her, all right? I want her to be happy. I don't want to come up with screwed-up scenarios that she has to fight the whole rest of her life. I killed myself to put her in a good place at the end of this long journey.

EW: Some how I dont think we've seen the last of her. Have you ever though about a KB-vol.3?

QT: Oh yeah, initially I was thinking this would be my Dollars trilogy. I was going to do a new oneevery 10 years. But I need at least 15 years before I do this again. Uma wont be the star, though she'll still be in it. The star will be Vernita Greens [Vivica A. Fox's] daughter, Nikki [Ambrosia Kelley]. I've already got athe whole mythology: Sofie Fatale [Julie Dryfus] Will get all of Bill's money. She'll raise Nikki, who'll take on the Bride. Nikki deserves her revenge every bit as much as the Bride deserved hers. I might even shoot a couple of scense for it now so I can get the actresses while they're this age. It's exciting to know that somewhere there's a little girl who'll grow up to be my leading lady.

EW:When you see movies, are you watching as a fan or as a filmmaker? Do you fix sloppy editing or rewrite scenes in your head?

QT:My goal is to be a film fan. If I see mistakes in tone or rhythm, I might start thinking, Okay, I would do this. But I can still enjoy the film. If I were teaching a class or having a serious conversation with somebody about it, I could point out deficiencies I wouldn't allow in my own work, but I forgive it if I like it.

EW:If you were teaching a class on your own films, what deficiencies would you point out?

QT:The answer is none. I'm sure somebody else might find weaknesses, but I can't. If there's a weakness, I don't do it -- you'll never see the scene.

EW:So what recent movies have you enjoyed?

QT:I can't believe it, but I really liked the remake of ''Dawn of the Dead.'' It was terrific. I don't really expect to see much better filmmaking in any set piece this year than that. I was almost offended when [they announced] a remake -- I mean, the idea of remaking a George Romero film without George Romero! And there are things about the new ''Dead'' that don't compare favorably at all. [In the original], Romero used [mostly] amateur actors from Pittsburgh, and they're giving their all, and you just completely buy into their characters in this world gone wrong. They become your friends. It wasn't like a character in a movie just got killed, it was like, Oh, this is horrible. It had the most intense character study of almost any pure genre movie. Even the zombies had personalities.

You have gotten either the best or one of the best performances out of every actor you've worked with. Do you think it has to do with writing your characters with actors in mind?
I do write characters for certain actors, like, say, Honey Bunny [Amanda Plummer] and Pumpkin [Tim Roth] in ''Pulp Fiction,'' but I'm also trying to find out who the actor is so I can add that to the character. The most I ever wrote for one person is ''Kill Bill,'' for Uma. And sometimes I write characters for actors who don't play them, and then have to reinvent the character.

EW:You mean like Warren Beatty, the original Bill, versus David Carradine?

[Beatty felt Carradine was better suited to the role.]

QT:Exactly. With Warren, Bill would have been much more of the sexy old lion, a James Bond character -- James Bond as a villain. David has a mystical quality and that became more important at the end [of the movie].... People always ask me, Who are actors you'd like to work with? Well, there's a lot of actors I'd love to work with, but I don't think that way. I want to come up with the right combination of character and movie and actor. Usually the opposite happens. They get the actor, and then, okay, f--- it if it's right or not, make it right, all right? I think that's one of the reasons why my casting is so good, and why the actors are so good.

EW:Well, why should we be any different? Who would you like to work with?

QT:Tom Hanks. He's got kind of a snide side in real life that I really like. It's a biting sense of humor that hasn't 100 percent been capitalized on. He's a wonderful comedic actor -- he was even terrific in ''Turner & Hooch,'' a little f---ing ''Rin Tin Tin'' story; his acting elevates it. But I've also wanted to work with Johnny Depp forever, and he's wanted to work with me, but it has to be special. The same thing with Daniel Day-Lewis.

EW:Madonna has been a conversation point in a few of your films. Are you interested in working with her?

QT:I've always said that Madonna has gotten a bad rap. She was the only actor who knew what she was doing in ''Dick Tracy.'' She was my favorite in ''A League of Their Own.'' If I had something right for her, I would totally cast her.

EW:After seeing ''Reservoir Dogs,'' I never would have pegged you for a feminist. But ''Jackie Brown'' and ''Kill Bill'' are female-empowerment fests. Jackie and the Bride are two of the most multidimensional women ever to be seen in genre films.

QT:I almost feel weird categorizing it as feminist. It's more of a femininity, an appreciation for women rather than a label. But it's not hard to figure it out. I was raised by a single mom who came from white-trash beginnings. She created a very nice career for herself as an executive -- a legend in her own time in the HMO field. From the very beginning I never considered that there were boundaries, things a woman can and can't do. I had my mom as an example of someone who came from nothing, who paid her own way, had nice s---, drove a Cadillac Seville. She was living the life.

EW:Motherhood is a big part of ''Kill Bill 2.'' Since you've been quoted as saying the Bride is you, does that mean you're thinking about having kids?

QT: Oh yeah, totally. I can honestly say that all that baby stuff would not have been in ''Kill Bill'' if I hadn't written the part for Uma. We are best friends, and when I was writing the script it was a good excuse to hang out with her. And if you hang out with Uma, you're going to hang out with her kids. I had a wonderful connection with her daughter, Maya. Actually, the truthful answer is that Maya made me want to have kids. [She] showed me I'd be a good father.

EW:One critic suggested that no one with a child could have written the scene where the Bride kills Vernita in front of her child.

QT:I completely and utterly disagree. When you're dealing in the genres of Hong Kong kung fu films and spaghetti Westerns, or even American Westerns, that is an absolute staple of those movies -- the child on the prairie sees his parents slaughtered and spends the rest of his life avenging the deaths. At that moment the child is dead and the warrior is born -- that's the symbolism.

EW:So how do you imagine Quentin Tarantino, boy wonder, at 60?

QT: I won't be making movies, that's for sure. I want to get some movie theaters -- I'm kind of a frustrated theater owner anyway. And I want to have a good life and let the filmography stand on its own. I don't want to be some old guy pitching f---ing scripts.

EW: Do you ever worry that your moment has passed? As popular as ''Kill Bill'' was, it didn't have the watercooler buzz of ''Reservoir Dogs'' or ''Pulp Fiction.''

QT:It's not something I think about. ''Pulp Fiction'' was a phenomenon. You can't count on making a phenomenon every time out of the gate or you'll be one sorry bastard. And when you make a movie as violent as ''Kill Bill,'' you can't be surprised when people don't want to see it. Harvey Weinstein always says, ''We could make $100 million if people weren't drowning in blood!'' [Laughs.]

EDIT: oh fuck someone beat me to it. Oh fuck I'm stupid, being a subscriber to the magazine I could have just logged in and got the interview off there. ok I'll just post the whole interview.

i know!!! i would never have listened to all that music. i think on an individual level they're definitely not my type of music. but tarantino is a genius when it comes to developing a soundtrack. the first song selection if pure genius from tarantino (nancy sinatra-bang bang). if you listen to soundtracks from his other movies, one can hear how good tarantino is when it comes to music. and not only that, but the way he presents his films. kill bill looked like it was gonna be a 70's style of movie. at least that's what the opening looked like. anyways...yeah

Yeah...apparently, RZA saw Quentin somewhere and he talked with him. Q told RZA about Kill Bill. This led to a three-hour conversation about kung fu films. Thus, RZA is involved.

I heard some of the tracks off the soundtrack off circuitcity.com an hour ago or something. Some of it is alright, but it's not "great" to me. The music in the movie was much better (which apparently was not put on the soundtrack...some of it anyways?)..and one of the RZA tracks was hot

O-ren Ishii is coming back? What the hell??

I just read the reviews on Yahoo Movies...a B average by critics (I'm surprised no user reviews is up yet)

And at Rottentomatoes.com, a Fresh rating of 87  (Yes, I like to check movie's ratings befo I go see them cause...well I'm cheap and I don't want to waste my money) 87 is damn good compared to what ratings most movies get according to that site.

I get off work at 10 pm tonight and I need to go visit my dad (which I don't want to :( ) tomorrow at 1 pm or so...so I guess I'll see it Saturday afternoon, providing he doesn't talk to me for 5+ hours (long story...I don't like my dad)

I'm going at 4:05 today to see this movie and it is going to be great.

I downloaded both soundtracks. I got the first one back when the first movie was still in theaters. I love the first one, the second one isn't as good in my opinion. I loved most of all the songs on the first soundtrack. I couldn't decide which was my favorite though. It was a toss up between Lonely Shepherd (the song by Zamfir the pan-pipe master) and Flowers of Carnage (the song that was played after O-ren died).

Volume 1: 9 of 10
Volume 2: 8.5 of 10

I felt the slow pace was a touch out of place regarding how the plot of the film is, but it really didn't hamper anything. It was slow, but never boring. The dialogue in the film was perfect. As was the colorful cinematography (colors, black and white, the way it was shot, light). So, writing and direction were flawless. The soundtrack was great. The acting was far more serious this time around. It made the characters stronger and more complex while adding more to the story. The rare action scenes were energized and fun. The training sequence with Pai Mei was funny and exciting. I must say it's a little less entertaining than Volume 1, it's a very mature, funny, and well-made film.

Some people may call this a somewhat vague spoiler, but I'm not telling any specific details of the movie or anything.

God I loved this movie!

I really liked the first one, but I think I like this half even better. I don't look at this as a sequal, I see it as the second half to a 4 hour long movie. This half doesn't have super kill everyone kinda thing with the Crazy 88s, but it does have it's fair share of action. It made a perfect balance mixed with the killing/story/emotional draw-ins.

I loved every second of this movie.

I hear that Tarantino is thinking about making a Volume 3, but if he does, he is going to wait til 2019 when the girl that plays The Bride's child grows up.

Also, if you look closely in the first one you can tell what The Bride's name is, but I still have no clue why they beeped it out.

i also rented volume 1 this week & bought it, was blown away by it. loved the fact the bride did some sort of brake dancing on the floor while slicing away @ the crazy 88's. saw kill bill vol. 2 on saturday afternoon. i thought it was pretty good, not as much sword play as i would have like but it was really good & got to get more in depth w/the characters. that would be deff. interesting if they did volume 3 w/the little girl nikki, maybe they'd have the bride's little girl grown up fighting too.

Love love love! I saw it today because I had class all day Friday and Saturday. It was sooooooo good. I loved the Pai Mei character he was friggin' hillarious and badass. I enjoyed very much learning the secrets behind some of the things that were left mysteries in the first movie. My only complaint if I could possibly think of one is I don't know what happened to Sophie....I thought perhaps she would show up in this movie but I guess I can guess what happened to her at the end of Vol 1. that was not shown.... Anyways it was excellent I'd recommend this movie to anyone who loved the first one:)

I heard by someone that it didn't really matter what happened to Sofie. The Bride didn't go after her because she didn't take part in the beating. The Bride just fucked her up a bit and sent the deformed remains back to Bill to make him uneasy.

yeah pai mei was pretty cool w/the beard stroking thing. sucked though when elle driver killed him my friend & i were like no more beard stroking. maybe sophie died of massive blood loss due to the fact the bride sliced off her arm.

I don't think so cause Bill talked to her at the end of the first one. Plus she was thrown out infront of a hospital by The Bride.

I heard that if you import the Japanese version of Kill Bill vol.1, it is uncut and runs NTSC format, so 90% of the DVD players here can support it. I hear that a lot of stuff was cut out of the fight with the Crazy 88s and that the reason it goes into black and white at one point is so that it wouldn't recieve an NC-17 rating.

that was prolly the funniest part of KB vol.1. She's squirming and screaming on the floor and I love how the blood just shoots out.

sorry to double post but I want to keep this thread alive since this is such a great movie. I'll post the standings for the box office as of friday-saturda-sunday from ew.com

Here Comes the Bride...
Uma makes a ''Kill''-ing at the box office. As expected, ''Kill Bill -- Vol. 2'' slays the competition, making $25.6 million in three days by Dave Karger

IT TAKES '2' The second chapter of ''Kill Bill'' fared better than the first on opening weekend

Uma Thurman's instant-classic Bride character didn't just kill Bill this weekend; she killed her box office competition too.

''Kill Bill -- Vol. 2'' grossed an impressive $25.6 million in its first three days, according to studio estimates. That's 16 percent higher than the $22.1 million ''Vol. 1'' earned last fall. Terrific reviews combined with high audience expectations fueled the debut. The coming weeks will tell whether the sequel can top the $69.9 million take of the original.

Second place, as expected, went to ''The Punisher,'' the comic-book-based thriller starring Thomas Jane, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, and John Travolta, with $14 million. That's considerably lower than the $23.2 million debut of ''Hellboy'' two weeks ago. Could audiences be tiring of these comic-book flicks? With ''Spider-Man 2'' less than three months away, don't count on it.

Cedric the Entertainer's ''Johnson Family Vacation'' saw one of the smallest drops of the week, slipping only 32 percent to $6.4 million in its second weekend. ''Hellboy'' and ''Home on the Range'' completed the top five with $5.7 million and $5.4 million, respectively. And the weekend was quite a drag for Nia Vardalos, whose follow-up to ''My Big Fat Greek Wedding,'' ''Connie and Carla,'' opened way down in 13th place with $3.3 million, thanks to a per-theater gross of only $3,210.

Spider-Man 2 is less than 3 months away?!? :D

Good to know Hellboy is doing good...after you see the movie...as soon as you walk out of the theater you're going to want a smoke if you're a smoker :D my friend lit a cigarette as SOON as he walked out..

Anyways, I'm a bit hesitant about seeing Volume 2. I don't know. I really doubt it'll top $69.9 million tho. I was going to go see it today, but I got about an hour of sleep last night, had to put a lawn mower together (don't ask), mow for a few minutes  and stuff so I figured I would fall asleep in the theater. Maybe tomorrow or the day after..

I saw hellboy on april 2nd and for some reaosn I had high expectations for it. Well I didnt like it, way too many one liners. They did a fantastic job of making him look like hellboy, the special efx werent so bad either.

just thought that maybe sofie wound up dying later on or something. i thought the one other part was pretty funny in volume 1 w/o-ren ishii & the council meeting. was funny that the head starting rolling around on the table & took like a little bit for blood to start shooting out of boss tanaka. i never even heared of hellboy until the movie came out. deffinitly looking foward to seeing spider-man 2. looks better than the first.

The first time I saw Kill Bill vol. 1 in the theater I thought it was the most damned hillarious thing when the fountain could be heard very loudly during the Bride/O-ren fight. I guess they turned down the volume track for it in the DVD cause it wasn't as funny on there.

Yeah, there were a couple people a few rows back who were laughing, but I was shaking and trying to contain my giggles. The movie WAS dumb, but the best kind of dumb. I was like d00d this is awesome. And then I saw The Punisher right after.

I'm not sure which Kill Bill I liked better, vol. 1 or 2. I know they're the same movie, but the volumes differ from each other. Like... lot less blood in the second one. I kinda wanted more blood. I'm a fan of blood. Of the over-the-top limbs being chopped off nice healthy spray variety.

Limbs being chopped off with the fakest looking blood sprays ever. i really dont like either volume more than the other. Since I need the both of them to actually know whats going on. The only part in Vol.2 I really hated was the part where she is like climbing out of the coffin. But they make it seem like she was at the certer of the earth or something.

Yeah, I was like "Um. Wtf." But it made me laugh a bit. You'd think that Pai Mei actually taught her how to smash through wood with one blow. I guess not, since it took her a few tries. Granted, she is laying down in a coffin.

My friend keeps saying "maybe she should kill the little girl" "oh man I hope she kills the little girl" "why hasnt she killed the little girl yet". I was thinking "what if she actually does kill her...that would put a weird twist, that I would not see coming, on the movie". Thankfully she DOES NOT kill her daughter.

*strokes fake beard* Kill Bill. V. 2 was as good as the original, just in different ways. In the first one, I loved just how off the wall the action was, this time, I enjoyed seeing the characters fleshed out in a more human way. However, I've been waiting for a box set to come before I buy either, and I will continue to do so.

Onyrika

So there is going to be a Special Edition? I'm waiting for something with the two volumes and a looot of extras. :P
I won't get the simple dvd's (although I'm in a videostore and I can buy them at a really cheap price..).
Now I'm downloading the film to see it in English. I want to hear the original voices.

And... giving my two cents about the movie!:
I can't decide which is better, 1 or 2. Tarantino wanted to do the two parts very different ans they are...
The second is more close, more touching. And sweet. Man, I looove it.
And the final fight is just amazing!

I also sit thru the credits when i watch at home (ive seen the movie 3 times today) and i like the music during the credits, too. And I also think the ending is very emotional and uh...'sweet', i guess.
And I think Bill is a cool guy- and i especially like when he shoots Bea in the leg and goes "Gotcha!" in a playful way. But I just think hes cool.

That deleted scene from Vol. 2 is funny =D I sorta see why they didnt keep it- though it would have been nice to show Bill's true skills.

If anyone likes one of them themes from Kill Bill (or the main one, whichever, I forgot)..

Young Buck (G-Unit) just released an album (today) and one of the tracks on the album has that theme song on it. The chorus is, "Bang bang...I shot you down, bang bang...you hit the ground, bang bang...that awful sound...bang bang...I used to shoot you..down..." all you Kill Bill fans probably know what I'm talkin about.

If you don't like rap you can find the mp3 on a file sharing program without a problem at all since people have bootlegged his shit heavily. I just thought it was pretty cool that he used that theme.
