1. I had to get a new AIM sn because I cancelled my AOHell and I can't use those names anymore. Is there any way to get my buddy list from somewhere inside my aim?

2. I have mp3s of a concert that will NOT burn to a cd. What is up with that?

Not sure about the second one, but I had an old AOL screen name and it was cancelled but I can still sign onto my screen name.

But where did you get the mp3s from? Maybe it's just a bad file type. Can you burn anything else?

to answer ur first question: if u can still sign in to ur aol name then add it to aim then there is a way to save ur buddy list. then once its saved sign into ur new name on aim and load the buddy list.

to answer ur second question: it maybe a bad file. i have had that happen many times. try going to another site an get that song or ask around the board if someone has the song. im sure someone is willing to give it to u.

Hmmm. Have a good memory? ;)

What software do use for burning? Maybe you could hit up their support forums and force someone to help you =]

Do you have Windows?

I used that a looooong time ago. Don't remember having trouble with mp3s though..hmm. Does it give ya any error messages when you try to burn the mp3s?

Edit: Since you're using XP, have you ever tried using XP's built in ability to burn CDs? I never liked it, but maybe it would work as an alternative to Roxio.

Why don't you convert the mp3s to .wma then try?

Yeah, try changing them to Windows media files and then try. Look up what your version has to say about copyrights in the help to see if it...helps.

I have not had problems with copyrights on Windows Media Player.

Also converting them to WAV files makes it much more easier too.

They just take up a hefty amount of space

And using WAV files avoids taking them from one lossy compression scheme to another lossy compression scheme, thus making them sound worse.

oops...I have ME.

Anyhow...I'm trying again and it seems to be working. Maybe it was just because I had other songs besides that set of MP3s?? I dunno...

When I got my AOL cancelled on my old computer you couldnt logg onto your old AOL. I think you wont be able to log onto it anymore. So try remember. And if you recieved the Online through a file transer then it wont work. I got Farther Away, Going Under, Even In Death, and Whisper from qweedle guy and tried to get them onto a DVD/Audio CD and it wouldnt work. I dont know if your problems the same as mine but thats what Might be the problem.

Hmm..

1. I know nothing about AOhell, but on AIM, there's a way to save your buddy list. I would assume that there's a way to do it on AOL as well. On AIM it's under file --> Save Buddy List.

2. The mp3 files could be corrupt. Or your blank CD could be faulty. Sometimes blank CDs will be screwed up and things either won't burn or burn badly. Try another CD (or another type/brand of burnable CD). You could also convert them to .mpg, .wma, or .wav files. I'd go for the first two.

Roxio is a program that I've used a lot. Sometimes I'll use Musicmatch as well. I find that both programs are very good. I doubt that Roxio is giving you your problem.

I've also heard that Windows ME really sucks. I've heard that it's got a lot of bugs in it, and is a pain in the ass. I have no idea if that's true, but if it is, then Windows itself could be screwing up your Roxio program.

Oh yeah...when all else fails...reboot. It works wonders sometimes. ;)

Good luck!

Probably because it bad for audio quality.

Really Bad.

Never convert a lossy format into a lossy format, it's just like compressing a jpg twice.

Really?
Oooooh thanks for telling me.

I've only did it with one song before, but I didn't even notice the difference lol.

It really comes down to what you play the audio on, and if you are picky about your sound quality.

Some people think 128kbs mp3's sound amazing, while others have to rip their mp3's at 192 or 256kbs to be happy with the sound.

The higher the quality of the system / speakers, the more you may notice that the double compressed files sound worse. On average speakers however, it may be harder to tell unless you are really listening for specifics.

Converting one lossy format to another is a good waste of time. If the files are not burning then it's time to try new burning software such as Nero or even little old WMP. If you had to convert it to a new format however to burn, a Wav file is the best solution as it is lossless.

Yea, for the mp3s, I'd definitely try a new set of blank CD-Rs or CD-RWs. You probably have corrupt CDs. That tends to happen to me a lot. It could be the mp3s, but before you spend time converting them to an entirely new extension or downloading new software, I'd first check the CDs.

I'm not familiar with Roxio, but what happens when you try to burn them? Do you get a blank cd? Error messages? Crashing?

Ah thanks.

I have very crappy basic speakers, so that's probably why I didn't notice lol.

Honestly, the first thing I'd do is back up all the stuff you want to keep on your computer and UPGRADE TO WINDOWS XP (if you can, of course). ME isn't really even offically supported by Microsoft anymore. People say Windows XP has a lot of holes....Well, if OS's were cheese, XP would have a couple holes per slice, while ME would have so many holes there wouldn't be much cheese at all  .

As for your buddy list, you should be able to log on a few days after you cancel it and save your buddy list (like everybody else has already said...Never hurts to repeat, though....) and then load it to a new one.

As for those MP3s....That I have no idea, and since you said they work without any other songs...That's just wierd. I haven't had problems with Roxio since the installation (which took the better part of an hour editing the Registry and downloading some program) and I used it a lot for burning CD's...Until I got iTunes. Now I just burn through there, unless I want other file types on the disk. I believe iTunes can be run on ME (though I'm not 100% certain), so download the installer and give it a shot!

Hope I've been of help

Yes, ME will not multitask very well, although it works better if you remove the active desktop/desktop themes. However, if you do want a different OS, you might look at Linux distributions. Most are free, and, if you like, you can set up a partition so that ME takes up part of your hard drive and Linux takes up the other part.

I had problems converting from ME to XP. I'm not sure exactly what the nature of the problems was, but luckily I have a TechNerd friend at my disposal who fixed it both times that it's needed fixing.

Tech nerds are good to keep, cheap to feed and don't scratch at your door to be let out. Just put anything resembling Star Wars away and they won't spend 6 hours telling you the intricacies of Boba Fett's armour.

Best Of Luck

I may be a tad late to this but...

On CD burning it all boils down to the blanks. You go buy a 50 pack of Iomega's for 5 bucks, you get what you pay for. I usually buy Maxell or Philips black CD-R's in ten packs at Guitar Center for 20 bucks. A tad expensive, but none of them have ever been corrupt or failed in almost 5 years of abuse. Also I was told many moons ago by a DJ and engineer buddy that the black ones hold up longer than most all of the green/gold/silver CD-R's.

And as for software I use Cool Edit Pro to burn and PCDJ to rip so I have no idea about Roxio or Nero.

And Windows eats ass. Period. I use Linux on a partition for main stuff and windows for useless shit.

Luna

Cool Edit Pro to burn ?

Ew

Lauren probably does not have much exp with Linux so I don't get why you all keep bringing it up :p It's not something you can learn in a week or two.

This problem also did not seem to be media related.

I agree with you Luna on the software aspects of it all. Linux isnt something for the faint of heart with the exception of maybe SUSE since its a GUI like windows.

And I just use CEP cause it seems to work fine for me for what I need it to do.

And in further reflection...she burned me a few tracks of that band Fallen and she has a low grade CD-R.

So I dunno...

Luna

I assume it's not a media problem because she got it burning on page 2. Was more of a software conflict I think with her files.
