my sister told me yesterday that this litte girl died...i was heartbroken...i have been thinking of her all that time since the car crashed into her preschool.
she hasnt died but i think we all need to think of her and pray for her..because she is suffering so much.
i was thinking maybe we could show our support for her by all writing our message saying we are thinking of her and send it into the newspaper...to show her parents and her brother, the doctors and sophie that we are thinking of her. you can send me your message in a pm or you can post it on here if you want. i hope you think this is a good idea, i do. i will send the messages to the newspaper on next thursday...so lets get as many as we can.

http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0%2C4057%2C9401314%255E26462%2C00.html just an article on how she is going.

and dont forget molly wood either...she is going to have a tough time in life as well...so if you want to say something for her as well...that would be great!!

To the Delezios,
I was very upset to hear of what happened to Sophie. I know many people are thinking of you through this hard time, and many of us are praying for your beautiful daughter. I admire your strength and courage to keep going. Keep believing, never lose hope... we're all with you.

Dear Sophie,
Aren't you a brave little girl! I was in hospital too when I was your age, so I know it can be a bit scary sometimes. But your family love you and are right there with you, and they'll never leave. Have you got flowers with you in the hospital? I hope you've got lots of pretty and colourful ones. A room can never be dark when it's got flowers. I know your body hurts right now, but it won't forever. You're a beautiful, strong little girl, and all your friends and family are so proud of you. Keep smiling my little princess.

Ron and Carolyn,

I don't have much to say that hasn't been said before. I will put your daughter in my thoughts at random times during the day, wishing her and yourselves the best. I sincerly hope the skin graft operations are sucessful for Sophie, and that one day soon she can live a heathy and prosperous life.

Sophie,

Hey sweetie, I know you must be confused with what is going on, but just remember that you have two loving parents that are going to help you get better! Be strong, stay courageous, and look forward to every minute that comes next, because you are going to do something fantastic with your life :D.

Probably already know considering how often 60 minutes ads run, but just in case.... :)did any of you watch this??i watched some of it, i got depressed afterwards. it was sad, i just starting crying when they were doing tests on Sophie and she was crying because it hurt so much :( . i was happy to see Molly Wood up and about tho :)

Yeah I watched 60 Minutes. It was really, really heartbreaking... I broke down crying. No child should have to go through that. But can you believe how strong her mother is!? That woman completely amazed me. I think Sophie should turn out just fine with a mother as committed and relentless as that.

:(:(...that is really sad :(..i hate it when little children get hurt and die because they are all so innocent..they had their whole lifes infront of them..and it was taken away..just because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time...when did this happen and where?

The news article says all about how it happened:
http://www.news.com.au/common/story...26462%2C00.html

Hey, I was thinking, maybe it would be better to take the messages to the hospital rather than send them to the newspaper. I think they said on 60 mins that Sophie's in Westmead Childrens' Hospital. I would be happy go there in the next couple of weekends to deliver the messages if you think it's a good idea. Maybe I could also buy a little present or some flowers as well, on behalf of all of us. They probably wouldn't let me visit Sophie but I could leave them at reception.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just wanted to say that I took all the messages to Westmead Hospital on Sunday. They should be with Sophie and her family now, they got put through internal mail. The lady at reception actually asked if I wanted to visit Sophie but I said no... I thought it might be a bit scary to have a stranger come in for her, and a little insensitive to her family. I also put a small toy through for her :)

Yeah I saw her on the news... she is sooo gorgeous. I am so happy she was able to go home today. They were going to have a picnic for her tonight so she could lie outside and looks at the moon and stars. It's the little things that you'd miss like that when you are stuck in a hospital bed for so long...

I heard about this a few hours ago. I hope she pulls through, poor thing. The worst thing about this is that the driver never even stopped to help! Just kept on driving. As the speed limit in school zones is 40 kilometres an hour, to propell little Sophie 18 metres, that car was going at least 80. I hope the perpetrater is caught and jailed.

Be strong, Sophie, you have come so far...I'll be thinking of you tonight, and God will look down and bless you.:)

Good news above! Sophie's injuries are not as bad as first thought, but she will remain on life support for a few weeks.

My heart goes out to Sophie, and her family.Sophie is a fighter and will pull through.
As for the driver......:mad:I hope they get him. If they put the fines up to a $1000 dollars, maybe ppl will slow down and take care, cause right now, too many cars just ignore the 40k limit.
Pray for Sophie

Turned out the guy that did this was an elderly man(around 80) he panicked and kept driving. What is it with old people hurting this poor young kid?:(

People over 80 shouldn't be driving if they can't handle the car, which he obviously can't do!!!

Delezio unconscious, on life support
Saturday, 6 May 2006. 12:06 (AEDT)

Doctors expect Sophie to be in intensive care for at least three weeks. (file photo)ABC TV

Burns survivor Sophie Delezio remains in a critical but stable condition in the Sydney Children's Hospital after being run over yesterday afternoon.

The five-year-old is not conscious and is on life support after her stroller was hit by a car at Seaforth yesterday afternoon.

CT scans have cleared Sophie of serious head injuries but she has a broken jaw and shoulder bone and multiple rib fractures, which her doctor, Jonny Taitz, says are causing the most concern.

"One of the ribs that broke has damaged her lung and caused lots of bleeding," he said.

"We anticipate her to be intensive care on the breathing machine for at least another three weeks."

Sophie's father Ron Delezio says the family is coping but is finding it hard to come to terms with what's happened.

"I just can't believe that she's got to go through all this pain again," he said.

"She'll fight this like she did the first accident, I've got no doubts about that."

The 80-year-old driver will appear in court next month after being charged with dangerous and negligent driving and failing to give way at crossing.

Dr Taitz says Sophie's injuries are not life-threatening.

"[Sophie's parents] Ron and Carolyn remain in incredibly good spirits and have been keeping a bedside vigil with Sophie," he said.

"She remains incredibly tough. We're all shocked this has happened a second time. She's clearly a very strong fighter."

He says tests will continue.

"The plan this morning is to take her for a further set of CQ scans," he said.

"We're also just a little bit concerned about some of the great vessels coming off her heart.

"When you injure your ribs on both sides, there is always the possibility that the heart underlining may damage and so we need to have a good look at that this morning."

Well-wishers have left candles, cards, flowers and religious icons on a brick fence just outside the hospital's front entrance.

Sophie received burns to 85 per cent of her body, lost both feet and some fingers when a car careered into her kindergarten in 2003.

You may have a hard time posting a message on the site because so many people are posting messages. The best time to attemp to send a message is later at night, when not as many people are online. I was on the site for about an hour yesterday, reading the messages. There were a total of 4333 messages when I first logged on. When I logged off an hour later, there were 5234 messages. I couldn't believe nearly 1000 new messages in only an hour.

With a shy smile and a courageous wave, five-year-old burns survivor Sophie Delezio has again amazed the nation.

Holding hands with her parents, the little girl walked out of the Sydney Children's Hospital today, almost five weeks after being run down by a car on a pedestrian crossing at Seaforth, on Sydney's north shore.

Less than three years ago, the determined youngster survived another car accident that forced the amputation of both her feet and left her with burns to 85 per cent of body.

Dressed in a pink fairy dress for her much-anticipated homecoming, Sophie's smile belied weeks of intensive and painful treatment.

"She can't wait to be with her family again," Sophie's father Ron Delezio said outside the hospital.

"She can't wait to get back to school. It's such a thrill for her to go to school and live like a normal child, and have friends and play.

"She really can't wait to get back there."

Just over a month ago, the Delezio family was again contemplating losing Sophie. They had been through the same ordeal in December 2003, after a car ploughed into their daughter's childcare centre.

This time, she spent 10 days in a medically induced coma to allow her to recover from multiple injuries, including rib fractures, a broken jaw and bruising to her heart and brain.

About two weeks ago she had the 31st operation of her short life - a painful skin graft to repair damage to her scalp.

"A lot of people think that we might be the most unlucky family in the world with two accidents, but I like to think the other way, that we're probably the luckiest parents alive today with having Sophie survive a second accident," Mr Delezio said.

"She is a happy girl. She gets all these presents, she's in her element (in hospital)."

Which was a good thing, Mr Delezio said, warning of many more hospital trips to come.

"We need sort out the back of her head first," he said.

"At the moment there is a two inch hole there where there is just skull showing."

Sophie's paediatrician Jonny Taitz said Sophie had been "an absolute delight".

"She is an incredible five-year-old girl who has defied the odds not once, but twice," he said.

Dr Taitz thanked the hospital's "unsung heroes", saying that for all of them, Sophie's return home "was the best bit".

Within 48 hours of her second accident, Sophie had received 1,500 messages of support from people in 31 countries, and 400 cards, presents and letters arrived at the hospital for her on a daily basis.

Prime Minister John Howard today said all Australians marvelled at "the courage of that lovely little girl".

"She sadly was a victim but gee, she is an inspiration to all of us."

NSW Premier Morris Iemma said Sophie had "captured the hearts of an entire nation with her courage and determination".

The family would not have weathered the ordeal without the support of the public, Mr Delezio said.

"Thanks again to all of Australia. You have made us feel very special."

But there was one more favour he wanted to ask: "When you do see people like Sophie out there, with any disability or any differences, please give them a smile, say hello to them, make them feel like they are citizens of our country."

AAP

This girl has to be the biggest inspiration!!

Princess Mary

This gorgeous young lady deserves to be awarded the Young Australian of the Year. Her courage, strength and spirit is admired by all.:)
