Actually, when Amy was talking to an interviewer about the album being quite sexy, I think he asked which song you could have sex to and reluctantly Amy replied 'Lose Control' and yes she did say the bass was a bit loud for anyone to have sex to it.

This seems like it's going to be another interesting song from the album. To me, judging from the lyrics is sounds like the person wants to give all of their self to that person they are talking to, they are willing to let them have control, and trust them. I know alot of the people who've heard this, are saying how it gives off this sexual and sensual feeling, but from the lyrics I'm getting this playful innocence to it, with the reference to "Mary Had A Little Lamb", and also a mischevious side to it with "Mary never has to know"

I can't quite describe it, but this really reminds me of these dreams I frequently had as a child, they weren't quite nightmares, but they weren't pleasant either. Just... mysterious.

I love how it starts with a very innocent sounding piano - kind of ties in with the Mary Had A Little Lamb thing - but starts getting very dark, and when the chorus kicks in, it's like a loss of innocence. I don't know...to me, this song is just mumbling and a bunch of "aaaah"s. It doesn't really stand out for me, although the lyrics are quite sexy. Sexy isn't my taste, but I do like the Mary had a little lamb reference.

I almost get the impression of someone losing control, and then it gets mellow again which is like, right after you freak out, you just take a deep breathe and accept it all.

The section in the lyrics about Mary and her lamb is clearly a metaphor. It's definitely not meant to be literal. The song is about Amy wishing she could just "lose control" so she probably wasn't actually having an affair with someone else's "lamb." Perhaps she just felt comepelled to? The section is merely suggestive. Like her saying "we could go do this and no one would ever have to know.." But then she goes back to saying how she wishes she could lose control, implying that she doesn't regardless.

Wow, a very intense song. In my opinion, maybe this is the first song of this album showing some "B Side" of the life.

For me, the lyrics have something to do with a person who tryes to seduce an innocent one in order to doing something forbidden ... but the innocent it's not so innocent after all (no B. S. put intended, please!:D ), specially when you read the first part ("You don't remember my name / I don't really care ..."). Most people in previous post talk about sex, but for some weird reason I related it with drugs (don't ask me why, it was the first thought in my head!). The whole thing of Mary's Little Lamb talks about this person trying to hiding this seduction of another person with more power and authority (parents? priests?). Finally, this dysfunctional and abusive relationship broke up in some point ("if I cut you down to a thing I can use / I fear there will be nothing good left of you").

By the way ... can you imagine the VIDEO of this song? ;)

Looking back again at the lyrics, especially the whole "Mary Had A Little Lamb", I can see this about two people are are both willing to lose their innocence to eachother, maybe Amy's character more so then the "lamb". Mary could possibly be representing, the mother, the girlfriend, anyone who is standing in the way of them being together.

Gah!! I completely agree. A lot of the songs they use on that show are so straight forward. Lose Control has the message that (I think) they're looking for without being too straight forward. We have to let someone from the show know about this song.

Whenever I hear this song, I imagine the whole crowd just kind of doing some sort of sexy-slow dance thing. And everyone grinds into each other in a liquid like motion at the drumbeat. Is that weird? lol

I LOVE when the guitar kicks in and how Amy whispers thoughout the entire song. The bridge is really entrancing. The whole song has this really cool, dark vibe.

I didn't comment in this thread after only hearing the song a couple of times. At first I really didn't like it.. the distorted lyrics.. the unusual vocals and sound, but I knew it would grow on me, and yesterday after a certain listen, something clicked and it hit me hard.

That was the closest meaning that I could relate the song to also. I haven't really been caught up with the news, but if this were to be the next single, the video concept would closely resemble what the author of the quote above was trying to convey.

This is just a physical relationship. So maybe, he has good qualities, but she [Amy] doesn't really care about that right now. She just wants to lose control for once. So, if she "cut him down" to "things she could use" [sex] it's basically taking away all his other good qualities.

I absolutely agree with the sense of depression. I don't think of this song as sexual, I see it more as self-destructive. It feels like somebody who is completely detached from feeling who wants to use sex to feel alive again without any regard for emotion. This is somebody who is not in pain, but somebody who has become numb.

This is just a physical relationship. So maybe, he has good qualities, but she [Amy] doesn't really care about that right now. She just wants to lose control for once. So, if she "cut him down" to "things she could use" [sex] it's basically taking away all his other good qualities.

I try not to picture Amy doing "naughty" things because I respect her too much. I try to visualize someone almost as attractive as Ames, but less respected, like Pam Anderson, or someone. I can't help that this song is so darn sexy. Her voice as an "instrument" really stands out more in this song than the others. It's not only phenominal. but it's most of the song. (Another live hit!!)

this song has got to be one of my favourites off the album! It's so random and unexpected. Like Amy's vocals are so layered at the beginning and the piano sounds kind of sad and creepy, then all the sudden the guitars come in at full-throttle, with a very eerie sound effect. I realy like this one, good song

So, granted i haven't actually gotten to Hear the song yet, i have went through the lyrics...several times. And here is what the song reminds me of:
I myself am a person who is Very in control of my actions. Well, when it comes to anything sexual with a member of the opposite sex that is. I am not one to be a notch in the headboard, and i like to be in a relationship for a while before i do such naughty things. Hoever, there are those nights when you meet someone who is just awesome, and just from being near him your thinking to yourself "oh, the things i would do to you". Yes, i have had those. I've also had those guy friends that i'm just like "i wonder what he's like in bed..no strings, just fun". Not that i ever did anything with them. However, with individuals such as those i mentioned, i have wanted to let myself go, Lose control if you will, and just give in to the temptation. So that is what this song reminds me of. And the whole "mary-Lamb" part. That reminds me of when you Know they have a GF...but you just don't care, and go for it anyway. It kind of gives me that feeling i get from that one Christina Aguilara song when she's like "move your hips to the bass line, put my back into a slow grind..let me get mine you get yours..." That feeling that comes with a song like that. Where you can almost play it in your head while your mind wonders into the dark side of lust. I think it's a fun song. :D I know i can't wait to hear it. Just that part "you don't remember my name, but i don't really care", or whatever..that part reminds me of "Anything For You". That is one of my FAVORITE Ev songs...so if it is anything like that song Lyrically...oh man. It's probably my new fav. :cool:

P.S. I just noted the end of the song, with the "cut you down" part. So, i'm thinking she May want use him as a tool (sex can be tool like too ya know), but it's one of those things where she may be able to convince herself to do it, but her conscience would be killing her after and she knows it. I hate this song. There is just absolutely nothing about it that I like. Amy's voice sounds terrible in it, the lyrics are quite questionable, and the music just doesn't sound very good to me at any point. I just find the whole song to be rather unflattering. I epsecially do not understand why Amy needs to have the "Mary had a little lamb" part in the song because it makes no sense and it is causing me to not understand what the message of the song is. Overall, in my opinion, this is probably the worst song Ev has ever made and it could cause the band to lose fans if it was performed live.

P.S. to the band: Sorry if I offended you and the rest of the band with what I said here, Amy. Its just that I see a lot of flaws in this song that I don't see anywhere else and it is clearly the first song that I can say I hate more than I like.

I absolutely love this song! After hearing the new CD for the first time, this was one of the songs that I kept playing and re-playing. I love the lyrics. They're sexy, but they're not overtly so, which makes it all the more sexier. I love the music arrangement as well, and honestly, I entirely agree with the earlier poster who said that it makes them want to pole dance ;). I would really love to hear this live to see what they would do with it!

This song to me is a total mash-up of Evanescence meets Portishead meets Bjork. And the "oooohs" are the Bjork. That part totally makes me think of Medulla everytime I hear it.

And call me weird, but I think that this song [or should I say part of it] could be used for an awesome car commercial. The chorus to be exact, the losing control and leaving the pretty flowers in the dust made me think of that. The rest, would not fit at all though.

I have a question about that: Does Amy actually sing "the pretty flowers in the dust" part of the chorus? I have seen this line included in all the TOD lyrics I have read up to this point but I have yet to hear it in the song and I've listened to it about 5 or 6 times now. :confused:

She only sings that line the first time the chorus rolls around, the second time--it's gone and the "ooohs" kick in.

I think the "pretty flowers" line refers to the field (feild... however the heck you spell it) of paper flowers. The paper flowers symbolize innocence, and they're pretty, and now Amy is leaving innocence in the dust.

(yeah yeah don't yell at me too much for posting in here after such a long lack of posts, but I just got the cd yesterday and fell in love with this) I really don't know what to think about this song really. It's just.. So Awesome to hear and I love how it starts out so innocent and then the bass kicks in lol. The first time I heard it my reply was: ooooo" And I can see why she thought people would have sex to this song lol. Especially the way her voice sounds on the second: "I think it'd be nice once in my life just to lose control, just once." It's like.. I dunno. I love the power of this song though. It's fighting it's way to one of my favorite Ev songs.

This is my absolute favourite song from Evvy. It's incredibly underrated and I'm so glad it finally made the set lists for the concerts.

I hope this doesn't come off as perverted, but I think the song's about someone having sex with a married man.

I've heard lots of people with the same interpretation. Some of them tend to hate the song, saying it's "slutty". I personally don't think so... it's not vulgar at all or obscene at all. Nothing's being shoved in your face because it's all artistic and very implied.

I don't know whether she said what the song is really about or not, but I've read a couple of interviews, and when she was asked the question something like:which song from ToD do you think people would make love to the most? she always answered Lose Control... so yeah maybe the song really is about sex, but then again everyone can interpret it in their own way...

when they opened up with this song on teh TOD tour later in the year it was fucking AMAZING!!! December 1st 2007....best Ev show ever!!
