Let me play the devil's advocate here... why are you guys calling for Martha's head figuratively on a platter when other so-called celebrities have done FAR worse and more violent crimes, with little more than a slap on the wrist at the most? Is it because you believe she really deserves it or is it just simply because you dislike on a personal level?


Disclaimer - I am no Martha Stewart apologist nor a fan of hers but the vehement that is being spewed about is seemingly disproportionate to the crime.

Many people are tired of celebrities getting away with everything, so it's sorta "nice" to see one actually getting a real punishment. And yeah, what she did was much less bad as some of the things other celebrities have been accused of *coughKobeorOJcough* but it's easier to root against her because she is generally disliked by a lot of people. Also, the fact that it seems so obvious that she is guilty and lied about everything doesn't help garner any sympathy.

I think you just made our/ or at least my point for me LC. Its nice to see a celebrity actually get what I believe she deserves and apparently the jury that tried her thinks she deserves rather than getting as you put it "a slap on the wrist."

A little of both.

With the evidence that I have seen its pretty clear that she commited a crime and should pay the price whatever that may be.

I also really just dont care for her at all.

The prosecutors had to have a high profile scapegoat to make an example (though she probably was wrong to sell her imclone stock, and talk about $60 share stop loss bull crap).

She goes to jail. She gets to play drop the soap with other inmates. The world ain't gonna end. (maybe she'll enjoy it and have a hot lesbian fling). Then she'll get parolled in about 2 yrs (after her high priced lawyers gets some of her charges overturned in appeals). She'll get out and be a bitch all over again, and still have her little billion dollar nest egg to live off of.

This is just a blip. Gov't has a high profile victory, martha haters rejoice, martha lovers weep. I'm gonna go back to my video games now.

Well it seems Martha got a paltry 5 month sentence. My gosh she might be out in time to use some of her own recipes for Christmas Dinner :rolleyes: .
What is the sense in an appeal anyway. By the time the appeal goes through all the red tape involved her sentence will have already been served, won't it?
I will say this while I do not particularly care for the woman I do like her recipes, tips and product lines.
I especially like how she said this morning in a press conference that even though she is in trouble she does not feel her company(and its employees) should have to suffer. I will continue to buy stuff at Kmart from her collection because it is nice. I will buy her magazine from time to time because it has alot of "good things".
It is not just Martha who profits from her company being a success. In a time when jobs are hard to come by, it is imperative people can stay employed.

Well, as soon as the 5 month sentence takes place...afterwards, she'll be on house arrest for 5 months as well. So who knows, if she's home for Christmas, right after, she'll still be stuck in the house for a few more months and possibly going mad :rolleyes:
